There's some very sad news coming out of the voice acting industry today. Billy Kametz has passed away at 35 years of age after a battle with stage four colon cancer.
Kametz was well-known within the anime and video game industry. Nintendo fans will know him best as the voice of Ferdinand Von Aegir in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Fire Emblem Heroes, and also Blue in Pokémon Masters.
Some other games he voiced characters in included Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Rui), Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster (Raidou Kuzunoha), Triangle Strategy (Jerrom) and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (Nenji Ogata).
He also voiced characters in anime series such as Attack on Titan, Boruto, Demon Slayer, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (Josuke Higashkata), Pokémon Journeys (Ren) and Neon Genesis Evangelion (Shigeru Aoba).
On behalf of the community here at Nintendo Life, our thoughts go out to Billy's friends and family during this difficult period.

Aw, that's incredibly sad. I saw some Twitter comments earlier today lamenting someone's passing, but I didn't know the context until now. My heart goes out to his family, who are in my prayers.
"I am Ferdinand Von Aegir."
I'll never forget that delivery. Rest In Peace, Billy.
Far, far too young.
RIP.
35? That's crazy. Chadwick Bozeman was one of the reasons I got a colonoscopy in my 40s, but I'd never have even thought about in my 30s. So sad. Condolences to his family and friends. I actually just finished 13 Sentinels too. Man...
No, Not Billy. Cmon. His voice work and twitch streaming will be missed.
Christ that’s young. Can’t even imagine how his family are feeling.
Knowing he must have recorded lines for FEW: Three Hopes while having that cancer makes me feel awful. Thank you for all the memories, Billy, especially with Maruki and Ferdinand. Rest…
Rest in Peace.
Tragic. Too young.
Nenji Ogata and Dr. Maruki are two of my favorite video game characters of the past few years. Incredibly sad news, I'm crying right now.
he did wonderful job of voice acting in anime and video games. rest in peace.
I was really hoping that Billy would recover from this and would continue to his career. I'm so heartbroken by this but at the same time I'm glad that he was able to show the world his talent of voice acting through anime and video games. Playing Three Hopes and hearing his voice is going to hit so different now knowing we lost such a great person.
Oh wow, I just finished Shield Hero and was ready for the next season. That's gonna be something of a mind screw.
May Billy rest in peace. He died so young. Cancer is an awful thing. Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes is his last recorded work most likely.
Dang, that's really sad. I enjoyed his voice work as Ferdinand and Raidou. R.I.P.
A terrible shame. Hopefully his friends and family are doing okay after this loss , or, I should say doing as well as they can. I hope too that they find some solace in how genuinely well liked he was for his performances. He came across as a really nice guy.
Just awful. Really will affect how the I’ll play this next game anytime I see Ferdinand. RIP.
Tragic. Rest in peace
35 is way too young. But life is indeed like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.
Cancer sucks, but sadly is part of life. RIP to him and condolences to his family
Rest in peace Billy Kametz, you were taken from us far too soon.
That so sad, and at that age, I loved his voice, and his work, R.I.P.
"You will always remember me, will you not?" -Ferdinand
Don't think we could ever go about forgetting you, Billy...
s***. My girlfriend was a big fan of him as Mikhail in Sirius the Yeager, and I knew him for Shield Hero’s Naofumi. Apparently he was the Rotom Dex in the Pokémon dub too, had no idea - he only started voice acting in 2016 and did a ton of stuff in that time. He was only three and a half years older than I am - that’s way too young to be ending things, especially to colon cancer. Now I’m thinking maybe I should be talking to my doctor about early screenings, just in case…
@TheJGG
Rest assured, I believe recording is done at anywhere from six months to a year in advance, so at the very least, we'll be able to enjoy his final performance as Ferdinand in this game.
RIP. House Aegir forever.
What a terrible loss.
F*ck cancer.
I didn't play Three Houses so I don't know what he was like there (though I imagine he was fantastic) but he played the voice of Blue perfectly. Cocky yet intelligent with a hint of classic Blue dickishness still there as well, his performance was wonderful. Rest in Peace man, why does this have to happen to the nicest of people.
I knew he was fighting cancer but damn I wasn't expecting any news like this so soon. Billy sounded like such a chill dude that bought laughter to everyone and he voiced some great characters, everyone mentioned Ferdinand von Aegir of course which he nailed but there's also Maruki from Persona 5 Royal he did which is my favorite role he did such a good job with that character. Rest in peace Billy, you were taken too soon.
Oh man, and I just recently watched Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 4. May he Rest In Peace.
See, this is why I think doctors need to be more willing to administer colonoscopies to people younger than 50 years old, especially for people who have a family history of colon cancer.
I knew of two people who died at the age of 40 from colon cancer (10 years before they were supposed to get their first colonoscopy). Billy Kametz makes number three, but even younger.
I've heard stories of doctors who outright refused to schedule colonoscopies for patients, even those with a family history of colon cancer, citing the fact that they were too young.
It makes me wonder how many deaths from colon cancer under the age of 50 could have been prevented had doctors been more willing to administer the procedure.
@AstroTheGamosian not really the place to discuss this, but don't be biased because of tragic stories like this. These are the stories that impress people and stick. But you'll never hear about all the young people that got a colonoscopy for no medical reason where everything was good. Too many of these make health care unaffordable. Also, you'll never hear about the people that were treated or had surgery for 'irregularities' in their colon but it turned out to be completely benign. They were done more harm by being diagnosed and treated instead of doing nothing. This is how public screening programs are discussed, compare the quality of life won by early diagnoses of cancer compared to overtreatment and costs. That said, of course this is a very tragic story and it shouldn't be like this and I understand your primary emotional reaction. But please don't think you have the solution, it's not how good and affordable health care works.
No!! It's too young!😭
RIP
Taken far too soon. My daughter has probably heard his work in Pokémon Journeys.
God welcome him and protect his family as they get through this.
Jerrom....No...
I can't believe he's gone.
I haven't played Three House or Three Hopes yet, but it's heartbreaking knowing that such a clearly beloved character's voice won't be heard in the future. I'm glad he was able to fight cancer long enough to voice for Three Hopes though. From what I've heard, he was a strong, admirable soul.
Thank you, Billy.
May you rest in peace.
He is so young, and this is extremely upsetting. May God bless his young soul.
My dad is a bladder cancer survival. I wish no one on the face of the earth to go through such suffering.
RIP 😢. May Lord Jesus himself take you up into his arms and lead you into his heavenly kingdom. So many young people dying... No need to worry, God has a plan.
"Some other games he voiced characters in included Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Rui), Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster (Raidou Kuzunoha), Triangle Strategy (Jerrom) and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (Nenji Ogata)."
(suggestion of a different version of this part of the article on this page: There were other games with characters voiced by him, including Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Rui), Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster (Raidou Kuzunoha), Triangle Strategy (Jerrom) and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (Nenji Ogata))
I'm not really too familiar with his work but a tragic loss nontheless, may he rest in peace. So young too, just shows that this horrible disease doesn't discriminate.
Wow. This is horrible. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Ferdinand was my favorite character from three houses, and it sucks to see him go.
I first heard of this guy while watching Aggretsuko. He was a great voice actor. Sad to see him gone. Rest in peace.
I didn’t play the games he voiced but sad to hear of his passing. 35 is still so young. RIP Billy.
People must be aware of the excruciating pain this young man went through. I also had a battle with cancer and I would never wish this upon my worst enemy if I even had one. I'm incredibly sad about this even though I've never heard of him. But I can relate to what he went through as all cancer patients you meet have this cosmic connection that tears down all borders and fears you might have. It's simply pure love that each person feels. Rest in loving Peace my brother.
Deeply sad news. A young and talented artist who seemed like a very bright spark in the lives of everyone he knew. I‘ll be sure to do a Black Eagles run in his honour the next time I play Three Houses.
Damn that's sad! He was a really good VA too! I'll miss his work.
I first heard Billy voicing Naofumi in Shield Hero Season 1. Loved his performance. Every time I hear his voice work now I'll think of him and cry. Truly heartbreaking. Thoughts and prayers for his family and friends. May he rest in peace. 🙏😪
Oh my only 35 years of age? that's so sad may he R.I.P and my condolences go to his friends and family
He was an awesome talent and provided some of the most memorable voices from some of my favorite games in recent years. RIP to Billy and my thoughts to his family. I will never forget the man behind Ferdinand von Aegir or Ogata!
This is awful, I feel for his family. As someone who had a digestive disease that almost killed me twice, guys, take care of yourselves and get checked. There are people who love you.
***** cancer takes all the cool people.
Shocking, 35 is so young he had his while life ahead of him, poor poor man and his poor family, i hope he’s at peace and no longer suffering, i hope we keep trying to beat cancer until we succeed. Cancer is so evil.
So sorry to read that. That age too?! So sad. Did a lot of good work there it seems on a lot of good games. Rest peacefully, sir. Feel bad for close friends and family.
Dreadful news. Only a few months older than me
Rest In Peace, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
I never played Pokémon Masters, but "Let's just call it smell ya later."
Horrible news. What a legacy though.
Thank you, dude.
Cancer is the most evil villain of all. The world must do a better job in its long war against this disease.
It's incredibly heartbreaking given how strong his spirit and resolve to fight this was in his YouTube video on April 26. Not even two months later and he's gone.
Life is fleeting and we have to make our time here count as best we can. He did that. RIP, Billy. 🙏🏼🥺
He was Ferdinand Von Aegir
