Original story [Tue 14th Jun, 2022 00:05 BST]: The Capcom Showcase kicked off with a brand new trailer for the upcoming Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak DLC.
It featured a returning location "Jungle" (an area that debuted in the second generation of Monster Hunter), new monsters from the Monster Hunter Frontiers series and Monster Hunter 4 (Espinas, Gore Magala), and many more to come.
Capcom will also be releasing a demo for Sunbreak on June 14th / June 15th, depending on your timezone - allowing you to sample some of the battles and even the game's multiplayer.
Players will have access to the Jungle location and be able to hunt Sunbreak monsters including Malzeno (difficulty: advanced), Astalos (expert) and Tetranadon (intermediate), Great Izuchi (beginner), and access training quests (Wyvern riding, basics, new switch skill swap & new silkbind attacks).
Solo and multiplayer will also be supported, and there'll be no limits to the number of times you can attempt quests.
During the same announcement, Capcom also mentioned how it would release a number of free title updates for the Sunbreak DLC expansion. The first will be arriving in August (Lucent Nargacuga - a new monster). The new area Forlorn Arena will be added, too.
This will follow with Fall and Winter updates in 2022 and beyond - including additional monsters and elements. Digital pre-orders will also receive some special bonuses - including Palico and Palamute armour sets.

Looks stunning!
I’m still not a fan of the game but I love how much Capcom is investing into it.
Goes to show how good Switch games can be when built from the ground up.
I have been playing alot of Monster Hunter Rise lately, I don't really need a demo for the expansion because I already really enjoy the base game so I know more monsters to hunt is enough for me, the addition of Master Rank is a big improvement to me even if some of the current hunts are pretty tough as it is.
I was not expecting a Frontier monster! I hope they bring over more and and more from the online games so we can try them out.
This was such great Sunbreak news! I think we've all been waiting for the demo drop to get a head start fight against Malzeno. But seeing Gore Magala and a Frontier monster (Espinas, when I don't think any Frontier only monsters have been released in any game except Frontier?), as well as Daimyo and the new explosive variant of Rakna Kadaki (did you see the fire flowing down the webs???)...oh man this made the whole Capcom show for me.
The Europe stream said June 15th so it seems it's around 24 hours away.
Lucent Nargacuga Is not a new monster it’s a returning monster
That was just amazing! MHR is already the game I've spent the most hours on, and it seems like it easily could double up
Currently sitting at 620 hrs on Rise. Am I really gonna hit 1,200??? Sure looks like it and I’m thrilled. Can’t wait!
Gore Magala! Espinas! Daimyo Hermitaur! Pyro Rakna Kadaki! LUCENT NARGACUGA!!!
I can't believe they're actually adding Gore Magala and Lucent Nargacuga! Lucent is a beast. It turns invisible, shoots poison spikes and is way larger than a normal Narga. I still have flashbacks farming cloudy moonshards from him in MH3U. But I love it 😀
And a Frontier monster?!! The flagship Espinas?!! This is the first time since Lavasioth and Hypnocatrice in Freedom Unite that we've gotten any Frontier monsters in the main series. This is nuts!
Don't mind me, I'm just hyperventilating over here.
Did someone say monsters hunting!
A demo for DLC? Now that's a first.
Wowww Espinas?! I've wanted that Frontier monster added for so long! I can't believe they did it! Gore Magala is also a nice treat, which means we must be getting Shagaru as well. But what about Chaos Gore? Wonder if they would reserve them for Apex tier...
Remaking Jungle is a surprise! Deserted Isle and Misty Peaks will have to wait a little longer ='(
I honestly want to see a complete remake of Forest and Hills someday soon. That place is just too near and dear to many hunters' hearts never to touch.
A demo for an expansion pass? That’s new.

@Greatluigi
This is pretty standard behaviour for monster hunter. The expansions usually add some kind of new hunting action and the demos are there to let people try them out prior to release. Iceborne had one (for the clutch claw) and gen ultimate had one (for the new arts and styles).
It makes me wonder if they'll bring in more Frontier monsters now...would love to see the scorpions here. lol
This’ll be the fourth Monster Hunter demo I try out to get into the series. I’ll bet it’s just as user unfriendly as the other ones, dumping pages of text in my face.
Maybe make a special tutorial monster and explain 1 technique at a time? By all means a Boss Battle Action game should be a slam dunk for me, they really need to work on making it beginner-friendly. That doesn’t mean making it easy or not putting in depth, I’ve beaten and loved Cuphead, Bayonetta 2, Astral Chain and Thumper.
I can't wait for the Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak expansion!!! I'm pumped!! I am so glad that there is a demo for it. Playing it tomorrow while at work. As I am getting ready for Sunbreak, I am still finishing up the base game of Monster Hunter Rise first.
This is the only thing coming to Nintendo hardware this year that im looking forward too.
I'm SO happy Gore Magala is back!!
Can't wait to start grinding new gear. Getting bored to my current meta set.
@Greatluigi
Sunbreak could be larger than the main game. It has bigger file size.
@citizenerased While the demos aren't the best Rise is by far the easiest and most streamlined of all the MH games to get into and start. Got my then 8 year old into the series with Rise and he had zero problems picking up the game. The game in fact is so streamlined that vets complain it's far too easy and I personally feel like too much of the micromanaging has been taken out.
@Fizza Monster Hunter expansions are usually far bigger than the base games and basically brand new games in and of themselves.
How do you make a demo for DLC?
@Z-Core Because Monster Hunter "expansions" are usually bigger than the games they are "expansions" of. They contain so much new content, new monsters to fight, new mechanics to enhance those found in the original game, that a demo makes total sense. Especially with the new Switch Swap and skills coming out, its a good idea to give players a chance to try the mechanics out before the full games release.
@Spoony_Tech I’ve heard many stories of people getting into Monster Hunter thanks to someone else, I think there’s something to that. It feels like the demos are made for people who are already familiar with the series, to convince them to buy the game. To be fair, a lot of Japanese game tutorials are awful, Nintendo are the exception to the rule.
Anyway, the Rise demo felt anything but streamlined.
@Fizza @Greatluigi No it's not. They did this with Iceborne too. @Z-Core The expansions introduce a lot of new monsters, locations and mechanics so the demo gives people a chance to check it out.
If you can find the demo by yourself without help you deserve 1000 zenny!
Astalos is just glorious. Its wings ripple through a rainbow hue of colors when energized. And...Malzeno is a BEAST! Holy canolly...so fast...so ferocious...its move set is so good! Also, the new armor sets? chef's kiss Delicious! June 30 can't come soon enough!!!
@GameAndLuke Yeah, that is a REALLY obtuse way to do the MHR:Sunbreak demo location. I had to get help from a Twitch chat room. lol
@Highlar @GameAndLuke It took me 15 minutes to find the demo and I've had to help several friends find it as well. This is the absolute dumbest setup for a demo for an expansion to a game that I've ever seen lol. 😹
@TowaHerschel7
Maybe share with others? 🤔
@Scrubicius It's in the eshop, choose download demo at Monster Hunter Rise (not Sunbreak preorder), then you get to choose the old demo for Rise or the new demo for Rise Sunbreak.
@citizenerased fully agree, the demos don't make a good first impression.
I've been trying to get into MH since Tri on the Wii.
Rise is where it finally "clicked".
I bought it on a whim due to the amazing reviews and I'm so glad I did.
150 hours on Rise and 200 on World/Iceborne.
I cant recommend it enough!
Yes choose monster hunter rise in eshop and select demo then from the two demo versions….choose sunbreak!
Am I correct in thinking Sunbreak is of a much higher difficulty than the base game? It’s basically and add on for after you’ve worked your way up the ranks, right?
@alasdair91 That's correct!
Not going to play the demo as I know I'll be getting it on release. I think Rise might eclipse 4U as my favourite Monster Hunter game with Sunbreak.
@Strumpan thanks for sharing,
I actually found it be accident when downloading Rise on another Switch. 😂
But this will help others.
@citizenerased Agree about the demos being for MH players just to try out the new mechanics. It doesn't convince them to buy it, they're addicted, I think it's more of a marketing hype tool. This demo seems just like the old demo, it isn't selling anybody, minds ate already made up. I didn't like the first demo, just picked the game up from the library shelf, and it was a little better at explaining the riding mechanics than the demo, which was my favorite part.
@Spoony_Tech Everything you described as bad is probably why I liked it so much. 😁 My only real dislike was the tower defense levels but they were nice enough to only make the first 1 mandatory. Well at least to get to the end credits after 30 hours. Which I then realized was just the tutorial before getting to the actual game which I knew would be too difficult and grindy for me. But those first 30 hours were good enough to make it my GotY last year. Though I may be forgetting a game I haven't played yet. Elden Ring is my current GotY this year but I still need to play HFW and GoWR maybe.
@rjejr That's exactly why they did it to suck in players of all skill levels. Seems like it worked to me.
@rjejr
I was the exact same. Fi Isles the Village quests thinking I was done, then realised I had to do it all again in Hub to see everything.
I found playing with randomers online really helped me get through it and it's probably my fave game series now
@steizgr8 I don't like playing w/ people online. When I summoned people to beat all the bosses for me in Elden Ring I just watched. Nobody could beat the Elden Beast or Malenia though, not even calling 2 at a time, so I just gave up, I felt bad calling people in just to watch them get slaughtered.
Oh, and it's not that I dislike other people per se, it's the awkwardness. Splatoon killed me. Everybody I played w/ either sucked or was so much better than me, I never fit in. Fornite is ok, I just run away from everyone and do missions, pretend they're all bots. 🤷♂️
@Spoony_Tech "of all skill levels"
Since it seems to have worked on both your 8 year old and myself can we say "of all ages" instead? I already know I'm old, I don't need to be reminded I suck at gaming too. 😂
The new insect moves for the glaive are so much fun, I can't wait for the full release!
@Z-Core By making a DLC worth buying
