Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch this July, and in the lead-up to the big release, its official Japanese social account has been sharing new clips of gameplay and cinematics.
The latest one was uploaded yesterday, and although it's only a brief look at a cinematic, it's still exciting to see some new footage of this anticipated release. Here it is via Twitter:
If you're wondering what exactly it's about, Nintendo of America's Twitter page provides some context:
"There's a bit of history between Noah's team and Ethel of #XenobladeChronicles3. When they were all much younger, Ethel saved them from an Agnian attack. Since then, Noah and his friends have looked up to her, so why does she now see them as enemies?"
Here's a look at Ethel's current form:
"Keves's "Colony 4" military commander. Dual wield with a slender sword."
As noted in a follow-up tweet, featuring some previously shown footage, it's mentioned once again how you'll be able to swap between characters while in the field (translation once again provided by @AegisFloral):
"You can change between Noah or the others at any time while you're on the move. Switch to your favorite party member and move around the field!"
If you would like to learn more about Xenoblade Chronicles 3, you can find out about the battle system and get a rundown on some of the quality of life changes.

I'm so excited for this game but it may be time to go media blackout for me. I hopefully would like to go in as blind as possible
Ultra hyped for this one! The super fast switching between all party members in the overworld looks nice.
@Axecon Same here, I feel like I know too much already.
Time for me to leave this site for a while too I guess. I was just hoping to avoid the Xenoblade forum posts, but not even the news can avoid posting about this. Pity.
Damn, found my summer game of 2022….. I hope that i have got some time left for Splatoon. Can’t wait for xbc3!
@Slain it’s a switch game after all. But, nevertheless xenoblade is an amazing franchise.
@clianvXAi oops! I deleted comment instead of editing. Yeah the game looks amazing, it's my most wanted Switch game this year.
@Slain Looking at the trailers they've shown the monster designs and cutscenes seemed to have received a major upgrade over the last 2 games. What this team is able to do with the hardware is always so impressive to me.
Hopefully we get a deep dive Direct on this game. They didn't reveal too much for their previous games. I'm sure they won't ruin this one. It looks sooo good!
I've just started the first one. Hoping it's as good as everyone says, but assume it will take a while to get in to it.
@Chris77 I beat the first game last year and it definitely took me a good while to get into it, but in the end it was worth a playthrough. Playing 2 now and experiencing the same thing as far as getting into it.
It might be almost time for me to start avoiding XC3 articles. I don't mind info on gameplay and mechanics. In story-heavy games, however, I prefer to know as little about the plot as possible.
Guys, you know you can simply not click on the article, right? No need for a media blackout or not coming to the site
This games looking great.... cant wait
I wish Nintendo would release a Manga adapting Xenoblade 1 and 2. Maybe even an anime adaptation. It would allow so many more people to catchup to the series before playing 3 and help popularize the brand.
What happened to all the noses?! I smell a rat...
ok nintendo wen are you going to give us the release date for the special edition for this game i seriously want to preorder it.
i have so many bikes and origami already...
After getting the first one last Week, i really can't understand the Hype for this Series.
The Graphics a pretty nice, but you really have to want a solo MMORPG with Quests resembling Daily Quests in a Game as WoW to like it.
The Combat System is for me personally not really satisfacting.
Somehow i wish all the Time i would rather play Final Fantasy XII, something triggers my Memory of it.
Was definitvly a wrong Purchase for me.
@Axecon Well, it seems like just releasing clips of cinematics, they are going to make us as blind as possible. But yeah, not a fan of spoilers.
@Azuris Did you play XC2? No? If you would ever give the game a chance (which it doesn't sound like you will), I woiuld say that the combat in the second game is - imho - arguably the deepest, most satisfying combat system that I've ever played in any RPG, on any console, period. The number of recurring things that are happening all at once is honestly almost unreal at times and - sadly - the game doesn't do a good job of explaining the intricacies of it. But once you get a grasp on what blades do, the differences there are between blade combos, driver combos, party combos, elemental bursts, and other various concurrent effects, passives and positions, everything begins to open up.
I would also watch some combat videos on youtube, of which there are many (I would recommend Enel's content), as they provide a glimpse into just how deep the combat really is. And once you learn the full scope of what is possible, the possibility of truly mastering it becomes something worth doing - it just feels amazing to be pulling off ridiculous amounts of damage to overpowered enemies that may have otherwise been impossible. Some might be put off by the entire scope and complexity of it, but I think it's amazing.
While I do think the first game has, perhaps, the better story arc and direction compared to two, I would agree that thethe combat is definitely so-so. But the game was built on aging Wii hardware and - even with the remastering it received - the gameplay mechanics themselves are dated to the time of its original release. Not much is going to change that.
I think it's kind of ridiculous to pan the entire series, though, just because the first game's decade old combat mechanics didn't suit you.
I hope the exploration aspect has improved from the earlier games. Xenoblade 1 is starting to feel quite dated.
I am a huge fan of this franchise. I even have the Sulk Amiibo in it's original unopened box. Anyone know if they will make this game Amiibo Friendly? Not sure to what purpose, but like Zelda Breath of The wild which gave you resources and such.
