Nintendo's purple mischief-maker Waluigi created some saucy scenes last May when a new render of him holding a rose surfaced online. This same render was first shared during an episode of Nintendo Minute, and it seems it actually caused some drama in the office before the video was even released.
During a Q&A in the latest episode of the Kit & Krysta podcast, former Nintendo employee Kit revealed how he was actually "really worried" about featuring this render in Nintendo Minute. There's no real back story about where exactly it came from, but it is official - and Kit was concerned the video team might accidentally be leaking something really important, or breaking an embargo.
Here's our transcript:
"So we did the video...of the Nintendo Switch [Lite]...there was the new color scheme of it - and like is it blue or purple was the big debate... so we did kind of a colour test of it with a lot of different things and I remember one of the people who is editing the video was like 'oh, our design team says they have this new artwork of Waluigi that they've been just waiting to get out there, so we should use it' - and we're like yeah that sounds great, and as they were editing the videos, and as we were watching the cuts, I was like 'this is really unusual that they just had this new art sitting around'... like they always have a plan, it's going out here, this is the date, and I'm like this doesn't sound right. And I started to get really worried that we were making a terrible mistake...and that we were like gonna be like leaking or like you know breaking some embargo for this artwork, so I was really bracing for it when this episode came out...This is just a random...updated render of the main characters"
Krysta on the other hand didn't really care because it was about Waluigi. So, there you go - this render was even a surprise for people within Nintendo's American offices. What do you think of this unique Waluigi artwork? Leave a comment down below.

They feared that hours after putting up a swashbuckling pose of Waluigi, Kyoto would be making calls and rolling heads, lol

“Krysta on the other hand didn't really care because it was about Waluigi.”
She gets it…
I think it shows at all levels- developer to news outlet- how the internet machine struggles with the issue of ‘news worthiness’. The truth is there isn’t much to say about releasing a new colour for a piece of hardware. You show the picture of the thing and that’s it. But now we all crave content about all the things we love, so Nintendo had to fill it out by using artwork from something else. Adding a character gives them a chance to talk about the colour purple for 5 minutes. If they (and gaming news outlets) didn’t talk about this flotsam stuff, then these channels and websites wouldn’t post as many updates and consumers would be complaining they didn’t have anything to sell or report.
That's far too saucy, will somebody please think of the children.
Oh, I get it. Because one tends to complement their snack with sauce.
At least Krysta understands what a “character” means.
On the other hand, if Mario was striking that pose, it would be a reason of concern. But it’s Waluigi. Come on.
@Lord Feel free to, you know, not click on the article.
@Lord there will be another reggie one today I’m guessing! Lol this was a joke but just checked and there was already one posted an hour ago. Wow this site is so predictable at the moment, maybe need to get some actual newsworthy sources!

"YAWWWN, ANOTHER KIT AND KRYSTA ARTICLE. SLOW NEWS DAY. BORING."
@ClamDown She's said Waluigi is her least favourite Mario character though, and unjustly calls him a creep.
@Ohmytoogood Very true. Whenever I see an article I'm not interested in, I just don't click on it. You'd think some people here would save themselves a lot of unnecessarily expended energy and do the same.
that Krysta is a real one.
priorities in order and everything.
From the title I thought it meant he was worried the Waluigi picture was too sexy for the world
That artwork is certainly something. Would have loved to see them do one of Pyra in that pose
These people:
"Nintendo we did this super-naughty thing please don't be mad."
Nintendo:
"Who are you again and how did you get into our offices?"
Hey, Nintendo Life staff, you forgot to run the article by @Lord before posting it so he could decide whether this is pressing news or not. G forbid a videogames website posts lighthearted pieces about videogames.
Nintendo is more liberal (and thirsty) than they've been historically, even managing M rated games and allowing full uncensorship in their game releases. I'm glad the company has embraced the zaniness of their characters and memedom. But it still doesn't match the Gamecube/early Wii era when Mario had a tribal tattoo, Paper Mario games went off the rails, the dark gritty tones of Metroid Prime & Twilight Princess, and the chaos of Mario Strikers (Mario Strikers Battle League seems to have kept most of the same aesthetic but has toned things down a notch, like no Waluigi crotch chop). We also are missing some very mature games and series like Eternal Darkness, Call of Duty, Metal Gear.
I wonder who at nintendo had nothing better to do than make a new render of waliuigi for pretty much no reason other than to have it for marketing purposes
Nah. If it were a problem, it would've been when Mario Golf: Super Rush first came out.
The way I see Waluigi is that he's the Dick Dastardly of the Mario series, all he needs is his Muttley, and that would be either Wario or Duck Hunt.
I'm removed, unconstructive.... I think that the artwork is fine, and also it just shows the craziness of waluigi.
Anything Waluigi is welcome. Still waiting for Sea Of Greed to get turned into an actual game.
hm.......... OK
ig......its not weird at all....ye.....
MOVING ON
I guess is true, they can literally do whatever they want with Waluigi and it wouldn't really affect the company or any future releases since Waluigi doesn't get any games, so basically to everyone it would be "is just Waluigi" which is funny and a bit ironic lol
This is NOT funny nor appropriate and it taints their reputation. This is how the company now looks like? Sad.

The point here is not that Kit thought it was "too saucy"; it's clearly a promotional image for a Waluigi dating game which Nintendo have already finished but they're keeping it from us and then this image was released and got us all excited but Nintendo weren't ready so now they'll never release the game and we'll never get the game and this hole in our hearts will never be filled and Nintendo have betrayed us all aaaargh...

@stuie1234 holding it...?
Waluigi can get a little attention, as a treat.
If you are worried that something might not be ok to publish, it seems like maybe you should......i dunno.....just throwing this out there......ask the appropriate person at nintendo if it's ok to publish?
Like, what are these people even talking about lol
I just wish Nintendo would team up with Tecmo-Koei again to release a Deception style game starring Waluigi. It would be so cool to set up traps to catch enemies, maybe even Mario.
