YouTuber and social media personality Logan Paul has broken the Guinness World Record for the most expensive Pokémon Trading Card ever sold at a private auction after completing a trade worth a whopping $5,275,000. It's perhaps the clearest sign we've ever seen that, yes, some folks do have more money than sense.
Paul purchased a promo 'Pikachu Illustrator' card on 22nd July, 2021 in Dubai, obtaining one of only 39 cards provided to contest winners back in 1998 and the only one in existence to be graded a 10 by the PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator).
It wasn't the first time Paul obtained the coveted card, however. He previously purchased a grade 9 'Pikachu Illustrator' card from collector Matt Allen in Italy. This same card was then traded for the grade 10 version in addition to $4 million in cash, making up the total worth of $5,275,000.
Logan Paul had this to say about the purchase:
"The Pikachu Illustrator is one of the rarest and most highly coveted Pokémon cards in the world. Only 39 were given out to Illustration contest winners in 1998, and this was a purchase for the only one in the world that has been graded a perfect 10."
Paul decided to show off the card at his WWE debut at Wrestlemania 38 on April 2nd, because of course he did. The card could be seen in its PSA casing, hanging from a garish gold chain hanging around Paul's neck. It was after the WWE bout that Paul was handed a certificate from Guinness World Records for the card's purchase.
If it were us, we could perhaps think of a few more worthwhile things to spend $5 million on. But what about you? What do you make of Logan Paul's recent purchase? Let us know in the comments below.

I feel like Logan Paul is overhated. Remember when people got mad because he used Gameboys to make a table? Sure, he's not the best guy ever, but is this really a reason to be legitimately upset?
Any guesses as to why famine persists in this world?
I have no Wyrdeer!
He could get a really nice top to go with those trousers for that money.
Either he was brave or really stupid wearing that for a WM event. There's been a few times where championship belts were stolen right out of the locker room.
He could’ve at least put a shirt on
I guess it fits with the absurdity of WWE as a whole. Personally, I don't think I'd ever pay any sum like that for a single card. Firstly, because I'd rather support charity with that amount of cash, but foremost because I'll probably never have that amount of disposable income to buy one in the first place.
Please stop reporting on this misbehaving child, and also on Guiness' world records and the grading organizations that perpetuate this sort of bad behaviour.
@Jackpaza0508 : Give the poor guy a break. He just spent his last $5 million on a Pokémon card.
Dude looks like the electric gym leader who is in your way for your thunder badge 😂
@Tasuki And it's not scripted either, right? Right?
So glad that the guy who made fun of a suicide now owns a overpriced sheet of paper 😀👍
@Lem1697 I think filming the body of a suicide victim (and posting it online) is really a reason to be legitimately upset. Hardly overhated.
That's pretty gross.
Sorry but who the hell is he? And who gives a crap?
@Pillowpants Not sure what your are implying but there have been several times where person items have been stolen by over zealous fans. Kurt Angle use to wear the actually Olympic medals he won in Atlanta until they went missing at a live event. He only got them back days later after someone turned them into a police station. After that he wore replicas so they didn't get stolen again.
@Tasuki I'm implying that theft at any WWE event is highly likely to be part of their script, seeing as all of it is pretty much scripted.
I just don't get why / how the cards go up in value? Like they're off a production line somewhere, they can always make more. And valuable to collectors who do what with them. I just don't get it. Like art I get but then turns out that's like a tax haven or money laundering also, is this the same?
I spent a little bit of money on a lot of good food today. Thought you might be interested.
With this pokemon card I would buy a country, live secluded in peace, and let other people live their dream of living for free in freedom, with animals (free and protected), forest,... But hey, at least he has his pokemon card.
Yesterday I read that a local investor in housing was robbed of his 350.000 euro's watch he probably doesn't even look at to know what time it is. My sister and her partner have to both work 40 hour weeks for 30 years to pay off a loan for a house around that price. Makes one wonder... Who is the criminal? My cabin and my forest I wasn't even allowed to live in could be paid for tenfold by that watch, I don't even want to do the simple math how many times I could have bought it with that pokemon card. But all is well as long as he has his pokemon card.
Mad world.
@HotGoomba : No tagged comment needed for this article, apparently.
It's a kind of a weird thing to make a world record out of. I'm sure there are other ridiculous and obscure records but I usually think of these world records as feats of human ability: how fast someone can do something, or how many rubix cubes solved in a minute.
All this guy did was buy something for a high price. Literally anyone with enough money could do that for anything you could buy. I could go to a dollar store, pay the confused clerk $30 for a Snickers and have the world record for most expensive Snickers.
not very inclusive of you guys/gals/xyrs to hate on him.
I'm not going to tell others how to spend their money.
But man if I had that much just lying around, that I could sink that into a piece of card and not worry about it? I don't think I could, not knowing all the stuff happening in the world. But he's still chump change compared to the 0.5% so... yeah. Cool story bro I guess?
I say it now...maybe with that much money to spare I too would become so detached and think nothing of stuff like this. I already waste money on things I don't need like amiibo. Oh well.
Well cringy brothers Logan and Jake were for a long time the most succesful personas out of the Vine/youtube/insta craze. Now Jake is trying to be a boxer and Logan is a pokemon ultrafan and energy drink business man. Whatever i think he got too much sh^** for the suicide forest incident.
This guy is a human-shaped virus.
@Lem1697 read that as overrated at first and was onboard with you! then you defended the clown, oh dear
@Splodge I'm saying that him buying a Pokemon card an wearing it to the WWE is not a good reason to get mad at him
@quinnyboy58 If you think I'm defending him by saying he can spend his money on whatever he wants, I don't know what to tell you
The person that got 4million in cash out of this must be really happy with their "grade 9" pikachu
@Lem1697 I just think he's an idiot, but as long as he's happy, good for him. He has no effect on my life .
@HeyNavComm Oh, he definitely is. And the way I see it, he is not even worth getting angry at.
I absolutely despise the way he wears it in a gold-laced necklace, it is the purest form of dickishness I have ever seen.
I pray that something in my collection ends up being worth this much.
If ever there’s proof that the system is broken, Logan Paul is it.
You know, I can print out Pokemon card template from internet and keep it for myself as private collection, with just $1.
@Pillowpants Sure because it's pro wrestling everything has to be scripted huh. 🙄
Sorry to break it to you but not everything is scripted. I suggest you get educated before commenting again.

Is this that suicide forest guy? Since when did he get a completely new face and body....and some old lady's necklace?

NGL, I'm considering never coming back to this site after typing this, after seeing you actually cover this cringefest of an excuse of a human being. Like, no lie, this is probably going to be my final comment on this site, as seeing this actually being covered here...makes me reconsider how much I should care about this site as a whole. It's been...an alright ride I guess, but...yeah, I think I'll be going somewhere else for Nintendo news going forward. Bye...

If you want it and can afford it, why not?
Look at that picture. Really soak it in. That's a real person.

Ok...don’t care while yes what he did in Japan is deplorable.
I feel like the hate has ran its course.
I’m probably gonna get thumbs downed a lot but still I’m with lem. The dude definitely overhated.
@DynamoDouglas Rarity + stupidity = the answer
this guy is essentially everything wrong with internet culture
@Lem1697 Eat the rich.
@Lem1697 Remember when he went to the suicide forest in Japan and filmed dead people? I do.
@PessitheMystic It seems that way especially the last few years. Especially the news coverage. This site has become more of a tabloid then an actual news site.
Hopefully it's a fake!
I can't find the words to describe this. I can think of lots of ways I could use 5 million to help people around me, so many places that you can donate to people that really need it. But yeah, screw it, let's buy a Pokemon card. I know, it's his money and all, but I just find this really sad.
Dude hit the best frog splash I've seen since Eddie died
To tell the truth I'm still salty over the time he got scammed into buying first-edition Pokémon cards and he got G.I.Joe cards instead.
Not because I give two craps about him, mind you. I would have Appreciated those G.I.Joe cards. Shameful waste of vintage '80s merch to troll a loser! LOL
He’s been ripped off, I wouldn’t have paid anything over $4,900,000 for that
It's good to know you can literally set a record for being a dumba**.🍑
I mean, Guinness has been a joke for years, but if we start including “most money spent on X” as an acceptable category, it’ll really hit a point of no return…
(Nintendo Life, I know ya gotta keep the lights on, but please consider not giving this swollen dingbat any extra press)
I would love it if the Pokemon Company would just re-issue that card and flood the market with it.
@ZeldaGoat LMAO 🤣😂
I'm definitely getting Lt. Surge vibes 💯
Meh losing $5 million isn't a huge loss to this guy, his YouTube and WWE money will make up the loss.
Stop. Stop giving this man publicity. Why did I sign back into this site. What a stupid mistake!
@EmmatheBest see @Heavyarms55's comment for the most likely outcome of that assertion
DON'T FORGET
YOU'RE HERE FOREVER
As much as I hate the guy for many reasons, can we talk about how good he was as a bad guy for Wrestlemania? He is the epitome of a despicable human being, and that works great in this scenario.
@Lem1697 Bruh. He literally recorded a dead body for clicks, and this was after he ran around Japan being an absolutely disrespectful clown, wearing a racist get-up, and smashing goods inside stores. I think he's learned since then, but I think people can hate him as much as they damn well please.
...and nobody cares. He's a horrible human being. And this comment is justified by the actions he has taken in the last few years. Look it up. Remember the dead body?
This guy's a proper 🔔end how he has fans I'll never know
And he will only go on to do bigger things. Because people keep talking about him.
@Anti-Matter when I was a kid & played Pokémon / Yu-Gi-Oh I had loads of fakes I knew they were fake but I didn't care because I could still use them to play with my friends people that buy these just buy them to look at for some reason 🤷♂️
Idiot brothers are on the headlines again.
People will spend lots of money on things personal to themselves, this is no different, it's down to a persons own individual means, this is pretty much the same as the average person spending $100 on an item.
Not sure why all hate for this.
@EmmatheBest,
Not sure if you are being serious or not, I think you may be taking things a little too far boycotting this site because of this, just ignore the articles you do not like.
@Tasuki,
The site needs those advertising clicks, and knows it's audience very well.
1 of the worst 'Youtubers' on earth, go away with your money *****. NL is sinking deep to report this btw. Disgusting.
I mean, whatever. The dude got famous and rich by being an internet celebrity. He's an entertainer, and obviously plenty of people found him entertaining.
I'll reserve my hatred for the people who make vastly larger sums of money actively corrupting governments and destroying the Earth.
I have been baited.
I expected to read about a card being destroyed, because I expect nothing less of someone that I know nothing about except that he is absurdly rich, to spend such money to gain more clicks by doing exactly that.
@Lem1697 hmmm no. People got mad at him for showing a body of a Japanese man who committed suicide at a forest and made a joke about the whole thing.
Look the guy is a scumbag alright. With that being said why are people getting mad he spent his own money on a Pokémon card. Terrible investment yes, but please stop complaining that he was able to buy it.
@quinnyboy58 he actually said overHATED
If I had that kind of money, I would get a Nintendo Playstation. IF THERE WERE EVEN ANY MORE TO BE FOUND
@Pillowpants Wrestlers legit have things stolen all the time. WrestleMania would likely have better security than most shows so probably not as much danger here, but being on the road all the time and constantly going from random arenas (and restaurants and the like) makes it easy for stuff to be taken.
Seems like a ridiculous thing to be wasting money on but hey, whatever floats your boat.
And here I am thinking $100 is too pricey for a Black Series figure.
all im gonna say is that obviously ***** logan paul
About tempted to put up the Merlin fish here to sum up my feelings, but i won’t, so instead I’ll I’ll come out with it myself ahem F**k Logan Paul, thoust pretentious ass
@Lem1697 well he also recorded a Japanese suicide body and laughed at it. So yeah. He's definitely under hated
Congratulations to him on getting the card, wish I could afford one too, would love to have one
Wow. I doubt they care about losing one viewer, but I'll never watch WWE again after this joke.
I have no idea who this nut-job is...and I'm so glad.
Only time I'm aware of his existence is when he does something stupid.
Whoever reads these and removes them, I think my comment was actually pretty constructive feedback. I’m not the only one who doesn’t want to read any more about this tool.
