When we saw Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden on our YouTube subscriber list the initial assumption was that it was a mobile spin-off or smaller experience. We already had Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars in October on Switch, yet it's the same creative team and developer bringing us The Forsaken Maiden - its out soon on the eShop, too, on 17th February priced at $29.99USD / €29,99 / £24.99.
As a reminder, both The Isle Dragon Roars and this new entry have Yoko Taro on board as Creative Director; they're the creator behind the outstanding Drakengard and NieR games. With such a small gap between releases its clear that the card-only format and the processes setup for development are ideal for turning stories and ideas into games rather quickly.
We enjoyed Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars in our review, praising its story, mechanics and soundtrack. Hopefully this new entry continues the good work of the original.
Are you planning to pick this up in a couple of weeks?

I suspected that they were planning more games in the series given emphasis on the subtitle in the first game’s logo but I wasn't expecting a second game so soon. I really enjoyed the first one despite the short length and easy difficulty so I’ll definitely be picking this up.
@BenAV Short length and easy difficulty for a JRPG? You’ve got my ears piqued! I’ve been on the fence about the first one since release. I feel like the game simply hasn’t gone on sale yet (or I’ve missed the sale when it happened).
@somnambulance Yep I binged the whole game in a day (I think like ten hours or so if I recall) and didn't really feel challenged till the final boss which I was probably a bit under-leveled for. I generally prefer my JRPGs to be a bit more challenging but I did still have a good time. The aesthetics are really nice even if they don't play into the gameplay itself much, the narration is fun and the story is interesting enough.
It was 20% off for a couple of weeks in December. That's been the only sale so far.
WHAT A TURNAROUND, JESUS.
I played the demo for Isle of Dragons when it came out and I thought it looked great, sounded great and played great but just couldn't exactly hook me in too much. Maybe I'll give this sequel chance.
I loved the first one despite the card element being practically non existant (outside the buiding of 'units' round by round vs an MP system)
But I dont think I need carbon copy with a different story.
I think Ill see whats changed before investing in this title
They already had the mechanics from the first game in place, so it looks like their development process for this one wouldn't have been much more than creating a new story and some new still images to go with it. The fast turnaround makes sense to me.
@BenAV Perfect! I’ll keep watching for sales. Sounds like an RPG I can play with my family for about a week without them getting upset about the duration of it or the unnecessary grind. Love JRPGs, but my wife and kids aren’t often supportive of the genre. Lol
I would like to see whether this grows into a larger series - maybe there'll be a "complete edition" package release later on.
Not a day one for me, I still need to finish the first game.
I would imagine it's not a hard game to make and turns a quick profit.
I'll wait for a sale this time though as the next 2 months are quite crowded for me with games.
I also think these games are better prices at $20 for the type of game they're going for. It's more like an rpg side story but a good one.
Wait I still haven't bought the first game yet 😅
Waiting for a physical bundle.
Might be worth a romp, but I do notice the amount of thirst (especially male characters) is basically 0. The first game was full of it.
Kind of wish they'd push the release date back since it's so soon since the first game. I only just finished the first game about a month ago and I'm busy with Pokemon and later this month Elden Ring. Still, the first game was excellent, so I will play this eventually.
Voice of cards was in my personal top 10 for 2021, so I’d be happy to play another.
I've been on the fence with the first game. The concept is intriguing, but between my backlog, upcoming releases, and a bit of a steep price, I haven't jumped on it yet.
Jeez the release window is 4 months! Are the games that easy to create or are they already making a few sea of cards titles?
Wow, it's out this month? That's very soon.
Played the first one in December and loved it.
I really want to play this one too, but Triangle Strategy is out soon and I have other JRPGs to get around to. Still, the card designs look as beautiful as ever. I'll be sure to get into this once I have the time.
Dungeon Encounters is getting a physical release, hope this will too.
I seem to recall having trouble finding reviews when the first game was released, but I took a shot and I bought it then. Although I generally enjoyed it, I stopped near the end (may go back to finish it). Given the short length, I will wait for reviews on this sequel, and if similarly short, will probably pass. Too many other games.
