Perhaps one of the most exciting announcements during this week's Nintendo Direct was Portal: Companion Collection - a two-in-one package containing the first and second game. It marks the first time Valve has ever released its games on a Nintendo platform and it's got the Portal community rather excited.
Portal subreddit user 'cmon1090' took this as an opportunity to share their photoshop concept of a Portal-themed Nintendo Switch - featuring a matching dock and Joy-Con. As you can see, there are all sorts of neat references to the games, including the joysticks as portals:
While we won't get our hopes up for an official version of this, as noted in the same subreddit, you could always opt with a Portal-themed vinyl for your Nintendo Switch.
Portal: Companion Collection is coming "later this year" to the Switch for $19.99 USD (or your regional equivalent) and has been developed in collaboration with Nvidia Lightspeed Studios. Whenever it does arrive, players can expect the single-player experiences as well as the co-op mode in Portal 2 via split-screen and online multiplayer.
Are you looking forward to escaping from GLaDOS on your Switch? Tell us down below.

I absolutely love that.
Also, $19.99? That’s an amazing deal! Was expecting it to be full priced.
Oh for sure. Portal is one of the best games ever made.
Mine is V1 Switch with White Joy Cons + ACNH analog cap and ACNH White dock.
This is a triumph.
The cake is a lie
@larryisaman Yeah, it’s a good deal. I just hope it runs well
It's hard to over state my satisfaction with this! Makes me want to make a custom switch shell...
Love it when people show such a strong passion for their hobby.
@larryisaman It is. I was expecting it to sell at double that at least. I wasn't going to bother with Portal on Switch but at that Price I am now.
@Anti-Matter Ahh good to see you. I used to see you a lot on here on my old account. Could have sworn I seen you on Push Square as well.
That is an amazing design. Love the little guy by the joysticks, nice touch.
It's nice it's only going to be $20. I played them both way too much previously for me to go in again but mayhaps awhile down the road on a sale since I do adore both games.
I'd buy that, for sure. Along with Portal 2, which I still haven't played.
It's only going to be $20?! Hells yeah!
20 DOLLARS?!? HOLY COW!!!
Considering the fact that I don’t get as many games as i did when I was younger because games cost so much this is amazing!
It's great that Portal is coming to the Switch but honestly, I didn't find it all that exciting. It's a fairly old game at this point and although I'm sure there are those out there that are excited about it and it may even be their favorite game, I feel like anyone who has really wanted to play it probably has on a different platform already.
@IronMan30 I've owned it since day one which was nearly 11 years ago and still have that and The Orange Box on PS3. You're in for a damn treat. I just pray there's a physical release for this.
Why is everyone surprised it's going to be $20? They said that with the initial announcement, lol. I'm just waiting for a physical announcement to get revealed. You could price that at $100 and I'd still pay it.
OH NO, Glados was put into a potato again!
(This is a joke, the swich is not a potato)
I wish this was an actual thing
finally my propic on a Nintendo site makes sense
If this become reality it will definitely sell out and only be left for Scalpers to sell such units.
When will we see a Portal 3?
Gyro aiming please.
Due to the low price, I can buy one for a friend!
@RubyCarbuncle
What was your old account name here before?
Really surprised the Steam Deck wasn't Aperture Science branded to be fair.
@Don technically we kinda have thanks to LEGO Dimensions, it even had a song for its credits. But a Valve full blown third outing won't be happening similar to Half Life. They don't like trilogies.
The control sticks being like the portals is so clever haha
That's definitely a thing of beauty!
@Anti-Matter Oh sorry yes ofc I went by the username TheLightSpirit or TheForestSpirit, either one or the other. I had an animated Ori avatar from Will of the Wisps before I left just over a year ago now. I was on Push Square after making this account and I only decided to come back here the other day.
I really really want Ninty and Valve to get all buddy-buddy... Valve games on Ninty systems and then Ninty can release VR-only games on Steam (or VR-versions of already released games).
What? me, dreaming..? Yeah, I know 😥
@RubyCarbuncle
Ah, I see.
Welcome back to Nintendolife.
@Bentendo1609
Thanks for the info, I will try Lego Dimensions.
This looks better than every single official limited edition switch.
@larryisaman Portal goes on sale a lot. In December, I picked up 1 and 2 for the grand sum of three dollars. But anyway, playing this portably will be really cool
Annnd the Nintendo Ninja will be taking this down in 3.2.1.
@RubyCarbuncle Wait a sec, I remember you, I think I remember you...yeah, I always did wonder where you went of to, how you been?
I need it now!
[insert random blah blah blah because automated message says I need to have more to say]
@Snatcher I'm good thanks. I was feeling under the weather recently but I'm over it now. How are things with yourself?
@RubyCarbuncle Doing great! I'm happy you came back!
@Half-ShellHero some of us don't want to hook our Xbox 360s to play this classic again.
Well happy I can now play it anytime I want on a handheld machine
"It marks the first time Valve has EVER released its games on a Nintendo platform"
Huh?
goes back to play the Portal table on Pinball FX3
@kobashi100 Fair enough. I completely understand that sentiment. I am happy for anyone who has a modern ability to play a game they love. I still get tickled pink over 2D Zelda remasters. Lol Cheers brother!
Shame its download only, would have rather had a physical, but might have to cave on this one as they are amazing games
