At the end of last year, Nintendo Minute's hosts Kit and Krysta aired their final episode after 8 years and over 400 episodes.
There were a lot of questions raised about their sudden departure, and they've now spoken about this themselves during an interview with the YouTube channel MinnMax. As suspected - it's all to do with the closure of Nintendo's San Francisco office in California, with the pair ready to start a "new chapter" rather than relocate to Nintendo of America's headquarters.
Q: Why did you both leave, obviously they [Nintendo] closed the San Francisco office, but why are you both choosing to step out here?
Kit: That was the reason, I mean it's quite simple actually...the office we were in in California is closing down. To the company's credit, everyone was given the option to make the move up to Redmond. And I think for us that was a point of reflection - it's time to think about what we've done and accomplished and what we might be able to do in the future. No, I think we're happy here - we're both from this area, so it's a new chapter.
Krysta: I would say the office closure was definitely a catalyst into thinking about what could potentially be next... Being somewhere for 13-14 years, you can't help but think maybe it's time for a change, maybe it's time for something different, as much as we both loved working at Nintendo.
As for Kit and Krysta's "next chapter", here's what they had to say:
Kit: We had such an incredible outpouring from the fans when we ended Nintendo Minute and when we left NIntendo, it really opened our eyes to the importance fans placed on Nintendo Minute - which was touching. So I think we're at a place where we really want to continue to make content together, in you know probably a different way than we were before, so we're looking at what that could be, and what that could look like and hopefully we have some more to share soon."
Krysta: I will say the connection and the relationship we were able to build with the community with Nintendo Minute is something that's very special to us and it couldn't have been a more touching moment when we saw that outpouring from that community - so that is a relationship we want to maintain with that community. Continue to engage with people that watch Nintendo Minute, that love video games...we really want to continue that relationship... that's going to be the core of what we're hoping to do next.
So there you go - that's exactly why Kit and Krysta are no longer at Nintendo. And now we kind of know about their future plans. Kit was at Nintendo for 13 years, and Krysta was at the company for over 14 years.

Things like these are why I vastly prefer Nintendo's work culture to other companies. Just when you think something shady is happening in the background, but in actuality it's very simple and honest reasons where everyone is in mutual agreement.
Am I the only one who had a little crush on Kit? It was always weird to see them act so childlike. Sometimes I wanted to shake them to see how many swears would come out.
YouTube is still such a new medium (in comparison to terrestrial tv) that it feels all these channels and shows should go on forever with the same people, but the truth is you need things to change to freshen things up every once in a while and people need to work in a different environment. I must admit I’m curious to see Kit and Krysta talk about the industry without being employed by a publisher to see their honest opinions.
I think it could be really interesting if they did a podcast or weekly show together that was similar to Nintendo Minute, but less "corporate" than that show felt sometimes. Plus, we'd probably get to hear a lot of fascinating stories about what it's like working at Nintendo.
Similar to how Nintendo closed its office here in Toronto last year too, them being from the San Francisco area it makes perfect sense they didn't want to uproot their lives and go to Redmond.
Only heard of them since NintendoLifes constant articles about their departure. Good luck to them in whatever the future holds
Are they leaving Nintendo again this week.. lol
That's really awesome to hear. And it will put an end to all those comments about the two of them secretly hating each other.
tbh I'm excited to watch them do a new project together where they aren't bound by Nintendo's guidelines.
@DomGC that's some eerie comment and profile pic synergy there.
I never grew up with nintenedo minute buts it's since to know it had its fans, even if to me I only watched it for gameplay on newly announced games. since their whole format had to go through a Nintendo pg filter
“So I think we're at a place where we really want to continue to make content together”
This is the most interesting comment for me. While I felt that they both had a genuine interest in Nintendo games (even if it was over egged at points), I never got the feeling that they much liked… each other. I don’t think I was the only one to get that ‘awkward colleague energy’ from the two of them.
So the fact that they’re willing to take the ‘Kit & Krysta’ brand forward when then have the option to do anything else is interesting.
…Admittedly that comment only came out of Kit’s mouth. Maybe Krysta would be happy to see the back of him. But it does sound as if they’ve at least discussed this as an option for moving forward.
What's wrong NL, why is this a weekly coverage now?
If you don’t like the topic of an article why click on it to comment,” why are you doing an article on this?” Life is too short. Also websites will judge the type of content they do by clicks and people visiting and commenting. So the more you click and comment on articles you don’t like the more of them you’ll get. So if you don’t like the theme of the article stay off it!
At least they were able to part with the company on good terms. Everyone should strive for that.
I left my last job on bad terms, sadly. While I ended it in a professional manner, it was three years worth of buildup that finally made me pull the plug and get another job.
Frankly, from what I have heard about the company culture, Nintendo really does sound like the kind of company I'd want to work for.
From their CEOs taking pay cuts so as to not lay anyone off, to trying to foster a friendly and inclusive environment, to allowing people the option to continue employment, even if they have to move (whereas most other companies would just give their employees the pink slip), says a lot about Nintendo in my eyes.
Bad decision. Redmond is way nicer than San Francisco. No poop and heroin needles on the streets for starters.

@Stocksy
Could you tell the commenters on Pokémon articles this as well. Thanks. 🙏🏻
Whatever they come up with, they'll have to be extra careful if they don't want Nintendo to go ballistic on them for dealing with copyrighted content.
That just leaves one question then. Why has Jon left NL and is it to hook up with Kit & Krysta?
@gcunit Jon joined GVG (Good Vibes Gaming), a YouTube channel that has other former GameXplain members.

Nintendo Minute was honestly pretty cringe and boring to me, but I think a lot of that just came down to Nintendo's scrutiny and forced positivity. I'm sure they're fine people. I think the two of them still have potential, and if they plan to keep making content as a team moving forward--outside of Nintendo's tight control--I'm honestly kind of excited. That's what it sounds like is happening, anyways. Best of luck to them.
@gcunit @Yosher
Am I missing something here? Did Jon really leave already?
I really loved Nintendo Minute honestly. It was so cool to get to see new/old games talked about/played in an official manner by people who genuinely loved what they did. I'm going to miss it so much.
@ModdedInkling I saw a video about it on the Nintendo Life YouTube channel and then also on the GVG channel so yeah I'm pretty sure he already left NL.
"So I think we're at a place where we really want to continue to make content together"
But wait, the psychology experts of the internet told me that they hated each other and that Kit was abusing Krysta.
I think these two believe they are more popular than they really are...big mistake not moving to Washington (far better place than the cesspool that is SF) and continuing with Nintendo.
@oconnoclast was just about to post this. People are acting like Nintendo hired them to do these short videos, when they were already in marketing and then proposed the NM idea to their bosses. One of them revealed in an IGN interview that they got to work with some of the big names at Nintendo and hang with them regularly, so I'm sure they have great references set up. They will be totally fine.
@Maxz I had that feeling too, I guess it was much more on the side of being akward sexual tension hehehe. Because in order to keep working with the same person for 13 years, you have to like them. I guess they'll start a podcast together, and that's something I'm looking forward to watch,
Good to know Phil from Rugrats grew up and found a career.
Wow, 14 years. Gonna miss you Kyrsta!
I wonder what the remaining video content team in Redmond will be up to after this? Would love to see a revival of something more akin to Nintendo Week, really tapping into that dorky Nintendo charm by not taking itself too seriously with the advertising. Heck, I wouldn’t even mind them bringing back the same actors if they can get ‘em; Alison and Gary were a great little team that I personally think had a much better on-screen chemistry than Kit and Krysta.
I still have absolutely no clue who these people are supposed to be...
@Einherjar Then why waste energy commenting? Besides stroking your ego, of course.
I didn't pay much attention to the show, but since so many people enjoyed it, my obvious question is why this could not have been done remotely. YouTubers produce professional videos from garages and basements.
I so miss the Nintendo Channel on the Wii. Those episodes were so cool and wish they were streaming somewhere online.
@-Juice- Then why waste energy commenting? Besides stroking your ego, of course.
@Medic_Alert Old, or just part of a dying breed. There are too few of us left… 😛
YouTube channel incoming then…
@Yosher This is disappointing… I didn’t realize Jon left and go out of my way to see his content.
13 years at one company in this day and age is a long time. Heck, 3 years these days is considered a long tenure. Sometimes it's just time to try something new.
Is Nintendo Life hiring?
These two would be a perfect fit.
That's great news that they're going to do something different together. To me, anyways. I liked them together, tho i know many didn't. I hope that opens the opportunity to include content about other consoles/exclusives, but it probably won't. Sadly, i usually watched the show on the switch. Idk that i will go search them out on YouTube, i try to use platforms like that as little as possible. If this site posts their content, I'll definitely watch it, but i know that's unlikely.
@Mr_Fox As if swearing makes someone mature? I don't think they acted childlike. Making sure their content is child friendly isn't the same as behaving in a childlike manner.
@SpaceboyScreams Yeah nobody wants to be in San Francisco anymore. Loads of big tech businesses have been leaving the area.
They should disband and try something new. Of the few episodes I could make it through - independent youtube content is better by a country mile.
This is so exciting! They’re staying together!
If anyone is interested ign’s latest nintendo podcast has them as guest as well as nintendolife’s jon!
My comment was NOT offensive!
@DomGC Capcom quarters?
Or maybe that's what they want you to think?! 🤔
@PtM Darn, will this be in a test later? I missed the info that their biography was required readíng...
@NinChocolate apparently they left so well, it demanded an encore presentation.
@EVIL-C Nintendo had an office in my hometown? How am I just learning this now? I thought the Canadian offices were simply a broom closet in Richmond, BC for tax purposes?
@DarthFoxMcCloud Yeah, apparently there was a small one here for years. You know Etobicoke? On The West Mall, across from that large Metro warehouse. The Nintendo office was inside that small office tower complex. It's been closed ever since the covid shutdowns, so it seems only natural Nintendo would shut it permanently by now. 😭

@Medic_Alert I feel you on the "content" thing. It sounds so dull, and feels like the opposite of art. You'd never hear an author be called a "page-creator."
I'll be honest, I never really liked their content. But they put their hearts into what they did and I respect that. As strange as it might be, I'm sad to see them leave, but I wish them luck in what they decide to do next. 💜
It was a decent series. I enjoyed the shopping spree episodes at the employee store and New York. Also the unboxings were entertaining, and the partnering with fans in the community. Still there are other partners that Nintendo shares product with who will do the same. I didn't watch all the episodes but many of them. They'll be missed but I think the community will move on. The biggest disappointment is it seems this was one of the direct NOA YouTube series that won't be around. So it will be even less from NOA.
We knew since the last article too. NL had poor coverage and never mentioned it.
@Maxz Same. This shocks me, actually. I always felt the energy from them was somewhere between "awkward colleague" to "awkward ex's forced to work together, one of which REALLY regrets that night in Vegas a lot more than the other one..."
If they actually don't hate each other and want to continue working together that's.....either really interesting or even more awkward than I imagined.
I think it's funny that despite both of them having worked at Nintendo for so long, that they're as clueless as an average joe about why Nintendo does the things they do and what they're going to do next (and when). That's evident to me from watching them on their YouTube channel.
