UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 22nd January, revealing that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has once again returned to the top of the list.
The game's had a great start to 2022 in the UK, only losing out on that number one spot once so far when Minecraft took the honours last week. Minecraft's down to sixth this time around, with titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons climbing up the pecking order in its place.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Extraction is the only new entry to speak of in the top ten this week, although Fitness Boxing also entered the charts for the first time, landing in 31st place.

It's pretty impressive for the UK.
Great to see Nintendo doing well pretty much everywhere, and Mario Kart is unstoppable at this point.
A huge surprise. Just shows that Nintendo games go on and on and on. We might get MK9 sometime around, I dunno……2028?
Yeah, with the game still going so strong to this day, I don't think we'll see MK9 anytime soon. But you never know. Good to see it don't good though.
Let's say they did make a Mario Kart 9, and it was on the Switch. Do you think they'd have any returning tracks from 8 Deluxe? The idea that they would make a second Mario Kart game for the same system could be interesting, but my intuition tells me that they are waiting until the next handheld console hybrid generation.

Wonder if BotW re-entered the top 10 because of some special offer that I missed or people who received a Switch for Christmas buying their second or third game.

UK, please stop buying GTA V and MK8!
Every time there is a headline with the words "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" I think is news about new DLC (because this is news) and always is about getting to #1 in sales chart (I couldn't care less).
Anyway.. we'll get new MK with the new console because of this. 8th year with the same game.
Switch hardware doesn't look like it's slowing down in the slightest!

It'd be nice if MK8D sales slow down at some point so Nintendo has some incentive to develop a new one. Going on eight years now without a new Mario Kart game. Ugh.
Which will come first Mario Kart 9, Elder Scrolls 6 or GTA6?
@Ralizah There's almost nothing I'd like more than a new Mario Kart for Switch at this point but it's probably smarter for them to just wait now considering the Switch doesn't really need it.
They should be aiming to replicate something similar to the Switch's 2017 first party lineup with the next system's launch and a new Mario Kart could make a great system seller.

@BenAV That's what I'm hoping. New 3D Mario and Mario Kart in launch year for the Switch successor would be a super compelling incentive to upgrade ASAP.

Nintendo has conquered uk by now
It obvious that Nintendo will NOT be giving us a MK9,10, 11 or whatever number we are now at until the next system. So Why not the players who supported this lame duck for the last 6 years and give us some GD new DLC. Think about it. MK8D stays at the top of the charts, more people buy rebuy the title because now there is even more content than before. Release it in quarterly chunks for a fair amount and extend the game 3-5 more years. See the problem isn't the game. It is that people are bored with the game, not the structure, the structure is fine. If you build off of that solid base you are gonna draw more people, there by extending the life of the game
Nintendo GTA since 2014. The game is 8 years old! It has never been one of my favourites. Gameplay is bland compared to Double Dash.
