The long-awaited 'Journey's End' update has today been added to Terraria on the Nintendo Switch. This is the same content that was originally added to the PC version in May 2020.
Developer Re-Logic has explained what Switch players can expect over on the official forums for the game:
"Initially released in May 2020 for PC, Journey's End brings Terraria to the next level, to a place where the core game can finally be called "complete". From new ways to play the game, to over 1000 new items to find and craft, to new bosses to challenge, and even a full-pass review of all content of the game for balance, graphic quality, and mechanics - truly, Journey's End has something for everyone. We cannot wait to see your reactions as you dive in to all that this update has to offer, and we hope that you thoroughly enjoy our gift to you. It has been an amazing journey indeed... but we truly feel that this end is really just a new beginning for the amazing world of Terraria."
This latest update will bring the Switch version up to the equivalent of the 1.4.0.5 version of Terraria (content-wise). You can see the full patch notes here.

May 2020? Wow, it really has been a while since Journey's End released.
Yes!! Very excited for this, always loved this one over Minecraft personally
Now I need to actually find time to go back to Terraria at some point. Super fun game and I'd love to check out all the new content but it's a pretty big commitment and there's so much I want to play at the moment so no idea when I'll get around to it.
Does it have touch screen support for menus and building?
Played a ton of this on Vita years ago, I think it's time to hop in again and see how things have changed in the last few years. Glad the update is finally out!
It was a chaotic enough game when I played it on PC..tried the mobile version with a controller but good God it's not a game meant for such a thing.
I wonder if they bothered updating the superior Wii U version.
Anyone know?
@msvt I doubt it
I just made the best toast. Not to much butter but not to little.
@NotoriousWhiz it says “now with touchscreen support” in de launch video, so I’m guessing yes. Don’t know what other touch functionalities they could implement.
Got it as a Christmas Gift. Have neuer player it before and usually I am not a fan of building games. But somehow I can't stop playing this game. Even though I most of the time don't really know what to do and I actually have still a couple of games to play that I really want to play (Blaster Master Zero 3, Blasphemous, Iconsclast). Having said that @NotoriousWhiz - you can use touchscreen controls for building and menus
Have to find mine somewhere and load it up.
@msvt Not that I disagree but why do you think the Wii U version is superior?
Terraria is such an amazing game. This is great news to start the new year
Anyone found it to be a bit laggy? I got it in the New Year sales and loved it but this new update seems to have ruined it somewhat
@RandomNerds
Dual screen gameplay + steadier frame rate than Switch version.
We are playing it right now, and UGH the new controls are AWFUL now. The grid won't turn on, I can't snap to grid with the d-pad...trying to build anything is more effort than it's worth.
And trying to fix the controls, there are probably hundreds of settings to skim through to find anything...
This really makes me just want to play the 3DS version instead.
Edit: After playing a while, and changing various settings, the problem magically fixed itself. Delightful.
