It's a big year for Sonic, hopefully - well it is a big year with multiple games and the next movie, let's just hope it's also a good year. SEGA is eager to get us hyped for 2022 with its mascot and is kickstarting the "Sonic '22 Project", which is basically a "we're doing Sonic stuff and want you to be excited" PR project.
There is a good amount going on in terms of games this year, with Sonic Frontiers confirmed for Switch and Sonic Origins (a compilation of the 16-Bit and CD games) presumably coming to Nintendo's system. The project's logo taps into the world that's been teased for Frontiers, and the boxed text of 'Welcome to the Next Level' is actually a throwback to SEGA marketing of the '90s.
You can see the Japanese hub site for this, including links to download wallpapers of the images above, right here. No doubt we'll get an equivalent site for other territories soon; at the moment the English Sonic site is still focused on last year's 30th Anniversary festivities.
Are you excited about another big year for Sonic? Let us know, as always, in the comments.

Honestly I feel like this whole sonic frontiers game is just the pso2NGS engine with assets in tact. I hope not
I think I'll cry if Sonic Frontiers is bad.
Sonic Origins on Switch is neat, but a new Sonic game in a 2D style would be even better 🤞
Welco Metot Henex Tlevel … must be Greek.
Please sega, don't messed this up! (Thats like asking mario to stop jumping)
I just want a release date for Sonic Origins
I really really hope Frontiers is good. I don't think the franchise can stand another blow of a mediocre new release. It is of course a huge franchise while old fans support it, but if years go by and new games are not good, support base dwindles.
About sonic origins, I'm really hyped to play sonic 3 and knuckles and CD with perfect emulation. After the 2 perfect Sega Ages releases, I can expect nothing below that level
@Strictlystyles Sonic frontiers will use HE2
If the price doesn't go that high, Sonic Origins is a must have for me.
@PBandSmelly Whilst things like this keep selling, Sega have no reason to stop. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.
Just hoping Sonic Frontiers doesn't turn out to be a bust like a majority of the 3D Sonic games.
Maybe its a sprite based Sonic RTS!
Yep someone beat me to it..... A new 2d sonic game would go down well and that goes for you Nintendo as well, with Mario! And if you are feeling really generous, a remake of SMB, SMB2 and 3 in stunning HD and Switch polish please??!!! PS not on NOL though!!!
Sonic Team scares me a bit…
I know some might consider it blasphemy, but it would be nice if they did some throw-backs to like the Dreamcast Era. Nothing wrong with the Genesis Era, but it's been done to death in my opinion.
"WELCOME TO THE NEXT LEVEL".
Sega/Mega CD.
@Z-Core No one should be surprised if its bad. Almost every Sonic game has been poorly reviewed and full of issues since the Dreamcast.
I’ve always hated that logo. Not happy to see it come back.
I'm very excited about Sonic Origins because it includes the best Sonic game, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, that doesn't have an official remaster yet. I also hope that Sonic Frontiers is good and not the **** that Sonic Forces is. I really hope so because I really like Sonic but don't know since most of the good people of Sonic Team has left.
@UnseatingKDawg No blasphemy but Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles has never been remastered. This will be the first time after 28 years.
@2Qwuik and ngs used a “modified” version of he1 which technically could have been the basis for he2. So my assumptions could be correct. I mean if you play ngs the graphics and terrain look almost identical to that of the little we’ve seen of frontier. It would make perfect sense
@Z-Core I think you'd better start preparing those tissues because based on precedent that's the most likely scenario.
Announcement jpeg of an announcement.. an improvement I guess 🥴
It's a homage to the "Project Sonic" branding that appeared during the Saturn era in Japan. It's speculated that it was reassure Saturn owners that they were working on a big Sonic game for the title (which later became Adventure on the Dreamcast), though the logo appeared on the Japanese discs for Sonic R, Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island and Sonic Jam.
@87th It didn't became Sonic Adventure, it got cancelled.
I'm really hoping that Sonic Frontiers turns out awesome. Please don't screw up this time, SEGA and Sonic Team.
@urbanman2004 What do you mean by "bust like a majority of sonic games." Most of the 3d games are good. Adventure 1&2, heroes, unleashed and
generation.
@Dafirelive I own a majority of them on Steam and neither one of them are memorable to say the least.
@urbanman2004 Well guess what. To me the only memorable mario games is galaxy and 3d world. Mario 64 and sunshine were a bit to buggy for me.
Sonic, always Sonic. Meanwhile those of us who remember the sheer variety Sega was once renowned for and loved the amazing RPGs and SRPGs like (old school offline) Phantasy Star, Shining Force, Skies of Arcadia, Dragon Force, and Panzer Dragoon Saga haven't seen a sequel or remaster to these in decades. Sega can't even be bothered to release a nice compilation of their iconic Arcade machines from the 80s and 90s and unceremoniously shut down the excellent ages line on the Switch. If they at least tried listening and gave us more of the franchises some of us REALLY want, then just maybe I wouldn't have such a degree of ambivalence toward Sonic or their own has-been company.
Forget endlessly milking Sonic (and constantly messing it up) and give us Daytona and Sega Rally!
CAUTION. REV - A
DO NOT STORE IN EXTREME TEMPERATURES
DO NOT IMMERSE IN WATER
DO NOT CLEAN WITH BENZENE THINNER ALCOHOL OR OTHER SUCH SOLVENTS
@Dafirelive so in your defense you moved the goal post and now you're just responding for arguments sake, 🤦🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️😅 lmao
@PBandSmelly i agree. Why not make a new 16bit completely new game. Why they keep making the same compilations with the same games is beyond me. Sonic mania was so good and i loved the new levels in that. Would love to see a whole new freshly sprited game
Project 22 will be huge
My expectations are low for this game. That way I won’t be disappointed if it’s bad. But I can be hopeful that it’s good.
