Update [Tue 11th Jan, 2022 05:30 GMT]: If you were wondering what happened to Platinum's Sol Cresta broadcast that was scheduled to air on YouTube last weekend, it's been postponed.
It's apparently due to "technical difficulties" with streaming equipment and a new date for the broadcast will be organised soon. In the meantime, the company has reassured fans development of Sol Cresta is "doing just fine".
Original story [Thu 6th Jan, 2022 04:30 GMT]: Platinum's shmup Sol Cresta suffered a last-minute delay towards the end of 2021 - with Hideki Kamiya announcing a December 9th launch would no longer be possible.
The team explained how the game needed some more development time and hoped fans would understand. Now a few months later, Platinum has announced it'll be hosting a special live stream later this week on January 7th / 8th (depending on your location) to share some release date information.
As noted above, there'll also be some other new announcements and even a viewer giveaway. So definitely tune in as it's apparently a "must-watch" for anyone excited about the release of Sol Cresta.

so is Sol Cresta like a digital individual release or something.
Anyway, I can play this game without playing like Moon Cresta right?
Excited for an announcement of an announcement??! No, Sega, no...
I've seen other Platinum streams live, hopefully I can see this one live too.
What’s the fuss about this game? It’s another shmup, right?
Really wishing they'd give it a physical release. I want it for my PlatinumGames collection!
I believe this was an April Fool's joke before it became a real game
Is this some super-elaborate joke by now? Or will there actually be a cool, near-finished game on display? Anyone's guess at this point!
I have always appreciated shmups, but I need mine to feel "modern" in some ways. Sine Mora Ex was the perfect example, with it's story features and huge set pieces! If Sol Cresta is similar I will there day one
@Mattock1987 It’s a PlatinumGames April Fool’s joke that turned into a real product. But I suspect that was the intention from the start. Since Hideki Kamiya is a fan of the Cresta games, he wanted to make his own.
@Donutsavant It has a modern look about it with large boss ships, as well as high res backgrounds and starfields. Plus, formation changing for different types of attacks that looks like a new concept to me.
As someone who buys a lot of shmups, but only plays a few of them due to a huge backlog (I buy to support), are the older Cresta games worth playing? The new one is intriguing.
Super excited bout this one!
Still maintain that logo says Presta.
@NinChocolate
This isn’t a SEGA game…
@RushDawg And you wouldn’t know it by their repeated hyping of an announcement! Don’t takes notes from Sega, just make the announcement instead of announcing one! See what happens... the announcement didn’t even happen! Lol
This is becoming hilarious at this point. So much mess
Is this a remake or a new game? I feel like I’ve heard the title before while browsing arcade shmups.
It's the practical joke that keeps giving.
Oh dear, bit of a mess sums this all up... 🤣
@Donutsavant I’d be more interested in this if it were rendered in 3d, but from what I’m seeing it’s all spritework.
With a studio like Platinum, which has made some incredible modern titles, how can a game this simple take so long to come out? And why not go fully modern in its creation?
Could you imagine if the announcement is another delay, what with the broadcast announcing it itself being delayed? That would be.... something, that's for sure.
Following the trend of their wonderful 101 Kickstarter!!
Nova 2050 on android is sooo much better than this and it's free. It has HD graphics, good music, many stages, many things to do & variety. I don't understand why there is so much hype...
Looks like Sega rubs off on people...
Now you know why Nintendo doesn't just buy up random companies that happen to make some good games.
For such a low-key release this game can't seem to get a break.
Perhaps the update trailer has been delayed until April 1. This really isn't a good look for the developer.
Mister Kamiya at it again?
We're never getting Bayonetta 3 are we? 😝
This just looks bad for Platinum as a whole.
Does this game really exist?
@Kilroy I haven't got round to buying Moon Cresta yet but I do have Terra Cresta and I really like it. It's part vertical shmup, part horizontal which isn't too common, especially in 1985 when it came out. The graphics are fairly detailed for the time, there's a catchy soundtrack, it plays well and has a unique power up system. I'd recommend it anyway.
@OorWullie Thanks, I'll check it out.
@Kilroy I got that slightly wrong, it's Terra Force that shifts between vertical and horizontal views. It came after Terra Cresta and has better graphics but plays differently. Both are worth checking out.
