Another Switch-related video at this year's Game Awards show was a new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
If you haven't heard about it before, it's a story-driven action-adventure game based on J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy novels. And earlier this year in January, the game was delayed until next year.
The latest trailer shows us Gollum's split personality - with many of the choices up to the player:
"Take on a perilous journey as Gollum, chasing the only thing that is precious to him. From his time as a slave below the Dark Tower to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood, climb, leap, and sneak your way past dangers. Skillful and sly, Gollum is also torn by his split personality. It is up to you to decide whether the darker side of Gollum takes over or if there is a spark of reason left in what once was Sméagol."
This "untold story" in The Lord of the Rings series will arrive on all platforms - including Switch - in 2022. Is this one you're interested in checking out? Leave a comment down below.

This looks like the worst game you could make in the Lord of the Rings universe.
Imagine having the distinct privilege of making an original game set in the LotR universe and choosing to make a game about Gollum
@SwitchVogel Which doesn't have to be a bad thing, this is just a very bad execution.
I'm fine with the idea of this game but his character model looks so jarring.
I didn’t know it was coming to Switch- about time it had a LOTR game. I’m probably forgetting one
Why make the same old same old LOTR type of game when you can make something new and different? ... I'm ok with the concept of the game. I'll have to see some gameplay.
Also I don't understand why people are dissing Gollum ... he is one of the most important players in the story.
@fafonio Fishing sim starring Smeagol prequel would be most welcome.
Sigh... that voice actor sucks which is exactly what I was afraid of. You don't have to sound like Andy Serkis. However this voice actor needs to redo his lines or they need to find someone else. There's no depth sounds like a generic nicktoon/nick jr version of Gollum. I hope the gameplay is decent as i've really, really been looking forward to this game.
A Gollum game can work well, but the way that they're going about it makes it feel and look completely cheap. I don't get why it has to look so ugly art-wise.
To be honest, I can see what people are saying about not needing this game.. since it technically isn't needed at all. There's no real reason for it's existence, given that the books and movies do a good job with his character anyways, and fleshing him out.
@Oddball83 I don't get why they didn't get the original guy who voiced the character in the movies to voice this version of him in the game. Maybe they just didn't have the budget, since I've never heard of this studio before.
Yeah, that's a hard pass...
@VoidofLight They couldn't afford Andy Serkis, I imagine and he's very busy these days directing etc. Also, they probably went with someone else so this doesn't come off as a licensed game based on the movie even though they took some obvious inspiration from the movie version of him but want to do their own thing. But that voice though, I can do a better job than this guy.
@XenoShaun Boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew.
@SwitchVogel Well Gollum's (known by his original name Smeagol) story is both tragic and very interesting when done right.
But of course, with so many other failed game adaptations. It always ends up in the hands of wrong studios messing it up.
I love Gollum and am looking forward to seeing what the game play and story is on this one! Roll on 2022
Yeah I’m not sure why people are so down on the concept of a Gollum centric game? He’s stealthy, he’s vicious, he’s conniving, he had a built in moral choice system with Smeagol. You wouldn’t be questioning it is he was a ninja or something.
Does the story need telling? No. Does that mean it won’t be good? No. Let’s be open, it could be great!
Gosh, they've accidentally taken on all the trappings of the Peter Jackson movies that are legally permissible without a licence from Warner Bros even down to the absence of gameplay.
Who knows it might be interesting, I'll reserve judgement until we get some gameplay.
@Bl4ckb100d Some gameplay was shown earlier this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXtU-9hK4Lc
I thought it looked fun. A stealth game wherein you set traps for orcs? Seems like a fun premise.
The voice sounds more like Dobby found the ring.
@hiptanaka doesn't look bad at all imo, I wonder how it'll look on the switch
Just as Tolkien would’ve wanted… 😌
But for real, I’m down, sure why not.
@Patendo MY PRECIOUS
Anything LOTR is good in my books. The Mordor games were Epic, and I really enjoyed the Gamecube games.
The setting looks great tho and very authentic to the movies, hopefully the gameplay and story will stand up.
Looks decidedly mediocre, but people will pretend it's horrendous. A game about Gollum makes perfect sense to anyone who actually knows the story of LOTR.
Where is Andy Serkis? You cannot Gollum without Andy Serkis. If you can't afford Andy Serkis, then you can't afford to Gollum. Also, this looks awful. 😬
He looks like... a Diary of a Wimpy Kid drawing
A whole game about Gollum? I'm very divided.
Looks great! (I hope it's not cloud on switch)
This "untold story" isn't from the various writings of Tolkien then?
Why so much negativity? I'm absolutely hyped. Most excited I'v been for a lotr game since Two Towers on Gamecube. This is day one for me and I'm almost as excited for this as for Breath of the Wild 2.
Yes, I'm a big lotr fan.
Also, Lotr TT on gameboy advance has got to be one of the most underrated games on the system.
Just please have a good story.
This looks disappointing for LoTr the concept is great but why choose Gollum of all characters there are so many better choices but they went with this guy I'm not hyped at all with this will give this a skip. As a fan of LoTr this doesn't look good.
I'm willing to give this a shot, but....man they're not selling it so far.
