Minecraft has been around for more than a decade now and it's still insanely popular. So just how "popular" is it? YouTube has announced Minecraft videos have now racked up a combined total of more than a trillion views - yes, over one trillion views.
It's honestly hard to imagine that many people viewing Minecraft content over the years, but here we are. It makes it the most viewed video game on the platform. To celebrate, YouTube's logo currently contains a little Minecraft animation, and it's also set up a special page featuring a range of different Minecraft community stories. There's a cool video to go with it, too.
@YouTube - "celebrating 1,000,000,000,000 views of @Minecraft videos, thanks to you & all the creators who built this special place on YouTube"
Have you contributed to Minecraft's views on YouTube over the years? What do you think of this crazy milestone? Tell us below.

And people thought MS was crazy when they bought the IP
So that's what that Minecraft animation and number were for by the YouTube logo...
"It's the most popular game on the platform, ever"
Nope for me.
I never like Minecraft.
I prefer Portal Knights and Dragon Quest Builders 2 instead.
Minecraft is love! Minecraft is life!
@Anti-Matter Don't worry they are NOT counting you
minecraft is such a fun game to just chill out on from time to time, Not surprised its gotten so many Views, pretty well deserved if I do say so myself.
@Anti-Matter It doesn't matter what you think, the stats show that it is the popular game on the platform ever!
Portal Knights doesn't even come close.
@Snatcher
The dogs bark and the caravan keeps going.
I prefer Portal Knights & Dragon Quest Builders 2 instead. Two best PS4 games i have ever played.
@Anti-Matter Except some dogs are nice and others are lonely and sad dogs. You see where I am going with this?
@Anti-Matter You prefer them! thats opinion, and not fact! so wile yes you like Those games over minecraft, it does not make them more popular then it, at all. I prefer many games over minecraft, doesn't change the fact that minecraft got like a Trillion views on youtube.
The kids are wild...
@Snatcher
Trillion views from Minecraft just mean nothing for me.
Popularity doesn't always equal personal satisfaction.
Minecraft can keep accumulating more views from Youtube but i still keep playing Portal Knights and Dragon Quest Builders 2 because they are more appealing to me.
Oh, btw.
You should know that i prefer certain unpopular things than popular things.
@Anti-Matter Ok i'm going to try this again! Yes you don't prefer minecraft, You, you! you don't prefer minecraft, But does this change the FACT! the fact! that it is the most popular game on the platform?
Even if you don't like it, or never want to play it, It is indeed popular! you even said it yourself, Unpopular thing then popular things, Which is totally fine!
But maybe it was the way you said it, but you basically said "No this game isn't the most popular game on youtube because I don;t like it" maybe thats why, But I do understand you don't like the game, and you prefer Other games over it.
Also I would say DQB2 is pretty popular.
@Snatcher : You! Say “you” again!
@Silly_G You (:
@Snatcher : Oh, stop it... you. 😳
And I got bored of it back in 2010. I get why it became a runaway hit beyond even its initial immense popularity, transforming into a platform for creation of content that transcended the game itself.
But I still find nothing less appealing than watching those awkward character models.
I played it all those years ago when it came out on the 360 and loved playing split screen with friends surviving the zombie hordes but lost interest. You know a game is big when it never has to launch a full blown sequel and still catches fire on YouTube. I’m just amazed people still play this after all this time. There are too many games that have come out since and that are still to come, I just have to move on. For me tho, I did enjoy dragon quest builders more and terraria for its more combat heavy parts and dragon quest had story to boot.
Well good job i guess. But I can’t enjoy anymore new content on yt with the new system they choose to do, eliminating dislikes.
That is crazy. On average every person on earth has watched over 12 times. Considering I am quite the nerd, and enjoy the occasional minecraft game, and has probably watched less than that, and most people I know have probably watched none, and most people on earth probably don't know what minecraft is, there must be a huge number of extreme super nerds who do nothing but watch these for their entire lives.
@Snatcher He finally used the new ignore function and I can't see his posts
@Zuljaras
I'm still here and can see you.
@Zuljaras I'm surprised he didn't mention DDR .
And yes, Minecraft is love, Minecraft is life.
@Arkay @Zuljaras Life love, love life!
I don’t watch a lot of minecraft YTers but I did notice mumbo jumbo, grian and pewdiepie where in the video.
Didn’t expect pewdiepie at all but his MC videos probably account for 0,05% of the views, maybe 0,1% even.
Personally, I do enjoy Minecraft from time to time, but it can get a bit old after a while. But I almost exclusively play online. And for the server I like to play on, I need the Java Edition of Minecraft.
The server, of course, is Vox Populi. It's the server that famous YouTuber/Let's Player Markiplier records his popular Drunk Minecraft series.
Sadly, Drunk Minecraft was cancelled years ago, because Mark found out that he was deficient in an enzyme that allowed him to break down alcohol, which led to a minor heart attack, meaning he could no longer drink alcohol.
Personally, I still wish he would play Minecraft with Bob (Muyskerm) and Wade (LordMinion777). It just doesn't have to be Drunk Minecraft. After all, look at how many laughs there are when they play Uno or Phasmophobia.
And as an aspiring YouTuber myself, I hope to play with them someday. But for now, I'll just be content logging on Vox Populi every now and then to make sure my house (built entirely out of glass blocks and goes up to the max build height; I use it as a vertical farm) hasn't been griefed.
@Anti-Matter
Your reading comprehension is shocking
1 trillion views, 0 dislikes
I would be impressed...only if Minecraft was still an indie game.
@RubyDevilNine
Populare - ooh, la, la!
My son watches these videos almost exclusively on Youtube kids. So I am sure he has contributed his part. I have watched a few 100 day challenges so I have contributed a tiny amount.
@Anti-Matter this is kind of the 'Red Vines vs Twizzlers' debate in the craft/build/blocks genre.
DQB 2 and Portal Knights is definitely better if you want a more 'roleplaying' kind of experience. Minecraft is a chill game, but leaves a lot to the imagination, and some see that as a positive while others need more definition. Ever since I played Dragon Quest VIII, I've been in love with the art style and music, so to be able to have a building experience with a kicking soundtrack and lovely colorful graphics is quite a treat.
I tried getting into Portal Knights, and really liked the RPG leveling aspects to it and the graphics were nice enough, but the building didn't feel as satisfying or easy to me and the individual maps seemed a bit too small. I should probably take another crack at it to see if it gets better.
@Astral-Grain
Actually, the small size of Portal Knights world (128 x 128 blocks for small area, 256 x 256 blocks for large area) was easier for me to plan my own world than DQB 2 with gigantic size world (having gigantic world size was great but also very overwhelming to plan the world design).
Yeah, Portal Knights was lack of modern looking apparel and objects compared with DQB 2 with more modern objects to display since Portal Knights used more medieval style than modern style. If you checked the latest update and DLC, there are two new worlds and new jobs from Portal Knights.
I still haven't buy the DLC for two new worlds but i will try to get them in year 2022.
Btw, i choose Ranger as my character in Portal Knights as i like long ranged weapons.
@Anti-Matter Yeah I noticed that about DQB 2 as well, which is surprising because all the DQ games I've played were in the medieval style so it's interesting to see so many modern styles, but I'm not complaining - I heard you can eventually build a car, and that's pretty cool in my book.
I liked the medieval style of Portal Knights, I guess I just needed to give it more time to get used to it because I played Minecraft for so long. I had a similar experience with DQB 2, it took some getting used to with the controls and stuff. I tried the mage class out, it seemed cool enough (I also like ranged attacks) but I am hoping new abilities or something unlock later to make leveling more appealing.
I'm curious how many hours that translates to. How many of the trillion are watching a 10 second minecraft meme verses watching 20 minutes of gameplay.
That being said, it's easy to imagine fans watching 100 Minecraft videos a year for 10 years to make 1000 views each. But 1 trillion would translate into a billion such viewers which seems insane ( or e.g. somewhat less views per person but even more heavy viewers)
Yes lots of 6 year old watch these on YouTube without supervision and it autoplays. Not really an accomplishment when the people you're talking about haven't developed their brains fully yet.
Some of my favorite streamers do Minecraft videos regularly. I watch them more for the banter and interaction than the actual gameplay. If it was just someone playing the game without saying anything interesting or entertaining, I would find Minecraft videos to be boring.
I've played the game a few times on Wii U and Nintendo Switch, and it's fine. I can see why it appeals to so many people! It's just not really for me.
@Zuljaras I would think that if a particular user has put alot of people on their ignore list then maybe the problem is with that user and not the rest of the community. To be honest the reverse block is just a terrible idea and seems to me to just make.it so the mods don't have to do their jobs and just let trouble makers and bad apples get away with stuff. If you think about it if they ban people who would report their crap how are mods.going to know who the disruptive users are??
@Tasuki It is weird, now I can see the posts. It is either the user has UNignored me or the system is not working.
Either way it causes more confusion than actual help.
But that is the decision of the owners and we have signed off on it
@Zuljaras Right. I know it's all a numbers game. A websites success as well as income come from how many users/activity it gets it doesn't take into consideration if those users are disruptive or not just that they visit a site and make an account. As an owner of a site they don't want to ban users cause that take away income as well as create bad publicity for them. Even if the user does something down right to get a ban, they ain't going to say that they did and will go to other websites and preacher how bad this site is and will make people think twice about coming to the site, and again decress revenue. So I get it why they don't ban people
The fact that Grian and Mumbo were on-screen for a solid 4 seconds was AMAZING, huge fanboy of them.
I was really happy to see Mumbo Jumbo and Grian pop up on screen there! They are both just such decent, nice, wholesome guys to watch, particularly on Hermitcraft together. And I can certainly see why Aphmau got such screen time too. I admit I'm one of those that watches Minecraft YouTubers. Grian, Mumbo, Scar, Aphmau, LDShadowlady, CaptainSparklez, Dream, heck even JackSepticEye and Markipliar got into MineCraft some last year. It can be a lot of fun and entertainment watching some of these personalities work their way through fantastic worlds that they and others build up.
Probably half of my youtube watching is Minecraft related. Mumbo, FitMC/2B2T, I Go By Lots Of Names, Luke The Notable / hardcore runs, farm tutorials, mod showcases, P2W server griefing, speedrunning, hacks and glitches, fan lore, prison escapes, community drama, even just friends of mine who broadcast their normal-ass letsplays... It's an endless well for this endless game.
I probably account for maybe 2 of those views, by accident. Everyone fat-fingers once in awhile.
To each there own, but I never saw the appeal.
@Royalblues yeah I agree with you about Pokemon too. They are games for children, nothing wrong with that. Just not made for adults, you gotta grow up with it to still be playing it. It reminds me of other franchises like Dr. Who and others.
This is the most common popular game to download on the App Store and Google Play. Today it is played not only by children but also by adults. It is usually downloaded for playing during breaks at work or on long trips. My son is fond of this game, and I decided to support him. I can say that the game is great for children because there is an opportunity to learn how to manage resources, and teamwork helps improve the creativity and imagination of the child and helps learn how to program. Also, there are servers https://servers-minecraft.net, which will keep the child safe from obscene information and malicious links to unsafe sites.
