It's been quite possibly one of the best weeks of the year in the land of Nintendo. The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai revealed Sora would be the final fighter, Rockstar announced the GTA trilogy for the platform, Nintendo launched its new 'OLED model' Switch and after an incredibly long wait, Samus has returned in the original Metroid series.
Nintendo of America's president, Doug Bowser, is known for being quite a big fan of the company's classic series and it seems with Metroid it's no different. Over on social media, he shared a picture of his brand new Nintendo Switch OLED alongside a copy of Samus' latest outing, Metroid Dread - wishing everyone a "Dread-Full" day!
The celebrations obviously didn't stop there. Nintendo's New York Store also hosted its own event to celebrate the return of Samus. Here are some of the photos of the event - showing off the many Metroid Dread and Switch OLED purchases:
Earlier this week, Doug also joined in on the #ThankYouSakurai social media hashtag, following the reveal of the Kingdom Hearts' character, Sora. Here's his tweet, acknowledging this special moment in Super Smash Bros. history:
If you would like to learn more about the latest Metroid game that concludes the thrilling arc about the "interconnected fates" of Samus and the Metroids, be sure to read, watch or have a listen to our Nintendo Life review, if you haven't already:

Nintendo has done something extraordinary. Releasing a hardware revision and a game that are based on 5 year old cell phone technology, and it being awesome, is pretty incredible. There's also a really good benefit with Switch in that it uses very little electricity. It's amazing how efficient, yet how good, the system still is.
Got the game, not the system. With an OLED TV I already have that experience minus on the go. Also, the new Nintendo gen is 1-2 years from us, so no rush.
I’ve been playing Dread every chance I get this weekend and it’s been blowing me away. It is officially my favorite Metroid. It took the stylish cutscenes and storytelling from Other M, the lore and breadth of sci-fi Prime, the isolation from Super, combat from Samus Returns, and the power up lineup from the entire series. It’s just…. It’s remarkable. I can’t put it down and I haven’t been able to say that about any games recently (aside from Demons Souls a year ago).
Hats of to Nintendo and Mercury Steam. They wrote their own check here. 👏
Still waiting on my game arriving.
Nintendo is easily the worst place to shop for a game if you want it for day of release.
It's funny to note that Bowser is playing on the original/2019 LCD Switch model as opposed to the OLED. The President of the MARKETING and localization side of a video game company is not using the brand new model of the product they released very recently.
@LukeNI next time go to shopto.net and get it (usually) a day early and cheaper. Had 1 issue with them in about 10 years and as there is a sirect phone number to them it was sorted right away.
Why does the shopping bag have a green side panel for the Nintendo logo?
Game Pass on Switch confirmed?
@ModdedInkling I assume the shot with him in the mask is an old stock photo he has sitting around. Nothing in the picture indicates it's a new picture taken for OLED or Dread launching.

Glad he likes it.
@ChromaticDracula I can't put it down because I can't pick it up. Not with those super generic, dull graphics and frustrating cat and mouse game. They just ripped off Resident Evil 2 & 3 with its game of cat and mouse which I don't care for in Fusion either.
@LukeNI No, it's the best place because you can buy digitally from them.
@Ntelligentman based on your trolling, you forgot the U at the beginning of your screen name when entering it..
I'm watching the end credits for Metroid Dread right now. What a game. What an ending. Time to start up hard mode.
Don't have a Switch OLED because I'm still happy with my 2017 model.
And us regular people, who couldn’t get a pre-order, have checked 5 local stores, more then once on a couple, and still don’t have one.
Saving my money for the Steam Deck instead of Oled. I play mostly docked anyway. I got Dread though, and it'd easily my game of the year. I was also worried, as Samus Returns was pretty average, but Dread is already my second favorite Metroid above Prime 1 but under Super right now.
sees Doug wi the Bowser head
[laugh track]
Bowser with a Bowser fursuit
It's a shame we haven't seen much of Doug Bowser in recent Nintendo Directs
I think this and SMT V will be my 2021 games I buy later this year. I'm waiting for that DLC to drop before I buy Rise, though.
I like that they finally did a face reveal for Doug Bowser. I kinda see the resemblance to the game character modeled after him, it’s pretty close!
NINJA APPROVED
Just please add more difficulty options, and the ability to make the E.M.M.I. easier on disabilities.
@120frames-please I mean, you say 5 year old phone tech.. but considering the price, there aren't many OLED phones at that price, and definitely not ones with controllers attached.
@FTL The regular Switch is awesome. The OLED Switch especially so. Just want to be clear. When I say 5 year old phone tech I'm just marveling at how relatively weak the CPU and GPU are, yet it's still my favorite system. Even without 120fps, I can't game without Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Pikmin, etc. And I can't explain why I still would rather play games like Bad North, Tetris Effect, Worms WMD, A Short Hike, etc on Switch. Although I have to admit I'm losing my taste for Rocket League on Switch. That one is way better at 120fps on other machines.
Don't forget that Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! also released in stores this week for the Switch. I knew this news would go completely ignored due to the OLED and Dread releasing, lol
I need pics of him walking around the office like that.
Sorry Bowser, but your OLED is in another castle.
I got the OLED Switch and it´s amazing coming from my launch OG Switch.
The screen is gorgeous and the battery life is like night and day. I get more than double the battery life with the OLED Switch.
Glad to hear so many gamers are enjoying Metroid Dread. Was on the fence as I didn’t think Samus Returns was as good others, this is just what I needed to hear.
OLED no use to me as play docked 95% of the time since covid, but again glad to hear others are enjoying it and it’s subtle changes are shining through
AAAGH. hopefully Dread will arrive physical to my local store today! The OLED, I'll get next year! All hail Bowser!
@120frames-please
Nintendo and power savings has been a surprising combination for decades.
N64 runs at ~19W (Max 26), Gamecube uses 23W (max 39W), Wii is barely 14W-18W (max 44)
Wii U is 34W (Max 75W)
Switch has a max of 39W, testing seems to show that it runs BoTW at only 11 watts (but draws somewhat more if the console/Joy-Con batteries are not charged)
(Max values are just the ratings of the respective ac adapters, not indicative of actual usage)
(PS4/Xbox One, at least the original models, are over 100 watts)
Digital Foundry says the PS5 and SBSX run at ~200 watts.
The environmentally-conscious choice is rather clear.
@nukatha Nice! I knew the Gamecube was efficient, and I've seen how low electricity usage is on my Switch when I've played it using a big battery that has a wattage output display. I didn't know that the Wii was such an electricity sipper. Nintendo should just make a portable Wii and allow us to play Wii and Gamecube games on it (maybe digital only since the disc drive would be bulky).
I still can't believe his surname. What are the odds for that?
