The Switch OLED has already been out for a week, and while everyone has been trying out their own favourite games to see just how colourful and vibrant the display is, Nintendo has shared its own recommendations about what to play on this device.
It's an interesting selection of Persona 5 Strikers, Eastward and the more recently released Tetris Effect: Connected. While you might have already played the new Tetris release on the system, perhaps it's worth following Nintendo's advice and checking out these other games filled with "vivid visuals":
@NintendoAmerica - In the mood for more vibrant colors and grand adventures on your new #NintendoSwitch - OLED Model? Check out these games!
One other game worth a look at is Nintendo's new release Metroid Dread - which is as good as it gets in terms of a launch title for a new model system. We praised it in our review, awarding Samus' latest outing an outstanding 10 out of 10 stars.
You might also want to try out some games with low light settings such as Dark Souls and even DOOM 3, to see a different side of the OLED display. Then there are more colourful games like Toree 2 and Super Mario Odyssey.
Have you played any of the above-mentioned games on the Switch OLED yet? What games have you noticed really pop on the new display? Leave a comment and your own recommendations down below.

No West of Loathing? I'm sure the deeper blacks add a ton to that game
Diablo 2 got a NIIIIICE upgrade over the standard unit. I noticed it right away on the flames surrounding the opening Diablo II logo, but further noticed in Catacombs, Durance of Hate, and Duriel’s lair.
Death Ray Manta looks and sounds amazing on the OLED Model and is a great twin stick shooter in general.
Tetris Effect would be my go-to game on the OLED model if I had one.
Boxboy & Boxgirl is beautiful on Switch OLED. The graphics are beautiful, and all the colors look amazing on Switch OLED.
Bad list, no cuphead ):
Crusin' Blast looks awesome on OLED. All the neon colors really pop.
Again, retro/2D graphical games...play them.
I would buy P5S and try it out now if we could get have P5 that I can play first lol
Astral Chain looks amazing, the colours just pop. Compared with my original switch and the visuals just come to life on oled
Kind of cool to see that Nintendo has consistently marketed third-party games on Switch. I know that was a big complaint from the third party publishers in previous console generations, so the change is welcome.
I unfortunately had to return my OLED. I just could not justify the cost. I'll invest the money in games instead.
Honestly, just about every Switch exclusive game is full of vibrance. Even Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which has a sepia tone to it has some striking colors I've been enjoying on the OLED.
The added screen size seems to be enjoying less love and attention, but I find it the best feature, it's much easier on the eyes to play any type of game with text and smaller details.
I played kingdom two crowns for hours last night on my new oled switch. Huge change in colours compared to my original switch. It feels like a new game. Can't believe kingdom two crowns is not on this list
@Aurumonado not everyone's cup of tea. But my God there is a huge difference compared to the og switch. No way I could go back.
Tetris Effect (PS4) looks fantastic on my 65 in OLED TV. I'd imagine it would look great on the revised Switch, just on a smaller scale. I can't justify buying one though. I'm not a portable gamer anymore.
Is Tetris Effect Connected going to get a physical version??
Also, I 2nd Astral Chain. That game looks AMAZING on the OLED screen. Also try games like Crash Bandicoot 4, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Hades and Asphalt 9 for other games that look stunning on OLED
Octahedron looks really good.
Loving my Switch oled!
So far the only games I've played on it is:
Metroid Dread (of course)
The Witcher 3
Kingdoms of Amalur
Luigi's Mansion 3
Call of Cthulhu
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Animal Crossing
Vampyr
Overcooked all you can eat!
Bayonetta
With over 220 physical games in my collection left to play on it!
Makes me want to sell my other Switches and replace them with oled models 🤣🤣.
Dark Souls looks (and plays) awesome on the OLED, highly recommended
Metroid Dread plays fantastically on OLED.
Cross the Moon (a very under-rated non anime visual novel) looks GORGEOUS.
Youtube app
That's what you should try on OLED, the display is bigger than the smartphone - it's like a portable OLED TV, especially combined with that new kickstand.
Actually any old school NES games will look great on OLED, most of them have black background and basic vibrant colours.
@Bizzyb I played the hades outta Hades when it launched, but I’m honestly debating on making room on my card just to see it on the OLED. MUA3 is on my list to get back into as I have not done the DLCs yet, so thanks for confirming about that, as I was curious if the OLED would make the comic style pop more!
I imagine the Ori games would look fantastic on the OLED.
I don’t have a OLED. I was all like, I have two Switches. I don’t need the other one. Now I’m jealous.
Nintendo recommending Persona 5 Strikers? I expected more comments here talking about Persona 5 still not being on the Switch. At the very least, Nintendo exclusively has Shin Megami Tensei V.
surprised nobody has mentioned The World Ends With You Final Remix. the game plays better on a touchscreen than on the big screen and since the OLED switch has a better screen, graphics should look more vibrant and more enjoyable to play on
Yeah several of my games look much better with OLED
Alien isolation would be interesting to try, because it is currently somewhat impractical to play hand held. It is too dark.
Have to say, Bug Fables looks stunning. Playing for the first time now my physical copy just arrived
I bet Graceful Explosion Machine looks fantastic.
@moodycat What performance issues? I've had none in my 40 hours so far on Switch Lite?
I'm playing Ori and the will of the Wisps and it's gorgeous on OLED screen!
Persona 5 Roy..... Strikers
@Varkster Absolutely agree about Fire Emblem. For me the extra screen size makes it perfect. It's not so much bigger that resolution suffers, but I'm not squinting at the screen on handheld mode now. It's made the Switch a pleasure to use.
Arm looks incredible and it’s drawn me back in after testing it out.
Limbo and Inside for that sweet blackness.
I've been playing Marble It Up on the Switch OLED's screen, and that game really does pop.
@Matthew010 None for me as well. I think he was referring to the 30fps capped frame rate. Love the game so much I am at 96% on the compendium. I don't have an OLED but I am gonna play it again this weekend and attempt to 100% it!
Would love to get an OLED but only when the price drops. Still good with my V2 Switch + Lite. There's an abundance of supply of OLED where I'm from because its a little overpriced from our local distributors. Xbox Series S is cheaper to get right now while the OLED costs more than $400 our currency equivalent.
Wargroove looks better on the Oled.
Is the Toree 2 mention a joke or am I missing something
@KnightsTemplar Completely agree, I find the Oled so much better. Having said that it really depends how much you play handheld. Considering I only play handheld the difference is striking to say the least.
I can recommend two Switch games to new OLED users as well. One of the great things about OLED screens is how great the color black looks. So my two recommendations come from the same developer: Limbo and Inside. If you had to pick one go with Inside. In fact anyone with just a regular Switch should play Inside too. It's really a master class in game making. Very emotional game with constant surprises.
@Longondo cool! Please let us know how it goes.
I was in the middle of playing Night in the Woods when I picked up my OLED Switch. The stark contrasts between the light and dark colours for that game are all the more enjoyable on the new screen.
@moodycat
What performance issues?
I had none? And play it on OG switch.
@NintenGuy honestly most people here with an OG Switch should put their money toward a real OLED TV instead. Then all games they have will benefit & next gen games will look like cash money
The Witcher 3 looks amazing on the OLED screen.
The Dark Eye: Memoria
The Dark Eye: Chains of Satina
Bayonetta 2
Metroid dred
Axiom verge
Those are good suggestions. I still have a hard time with the grays (strong yellowish tint) of the OLED however compared to the old version that nailed the gray. Just check out the base menus in dark theme and you'll see what I mean.
