Pixel art game fans, still thy heart: Cassette Beasts is coming to you from a team who've worked on Starbound, Wargroove, and Stardew Valley. Pokémon and Digimon fans, still thy heart as well, because Cassette Beasts is all about catching, training, collecting and fusing monsters together to create unique, powerful creatures to battle alongside you.
Now, the open-world game has been confirmed for Switch, thanks to a partnership with publisher Raw Fury.
"Getting to work with the incredible talent at Bytten Studio is a real joy," said Raw Fury CEO Jonas Antonsson. “Cassette Beasts is a perfect title for Raw Fury, and we can’t wait to bring its humour, monsters, friendship and unique world to players everywhere."
Bytten Studio, which is a two-person team consisting of ex-Chucklefish artist and writer, Jay Baylis, and programmer and designer Tom Coxon, said the partnership felt like "a collaboration", saying that the game "really wouldn't have been able to grow into what it is now without Raw Fury backing us."
The game has no confirmed release window yet, other than "Coming Soon" on its Steam page. Watch this space for more info to come!

Oooh, I'm glad this has been brought on my radar now! That trailer music is infectious.
EDIT: The overworld style makes me think of Pokemon DPPt, with some technical upgrades one might see if the DS was a bit more powerful. The "side view" battle scene style is normally not my favorite, but here I feel like it works - plus I'm excited for an indie "monster collector" game that doesn't stick to 1v1 battles! (2-on-2 Pokemon battle fans rise up!)
These art styles clash way too hard for my interests. Looks like their hearts are in the right place though.
The aesthetic alone is enough to sell me. It's very dynamic and immediately memorable.
@Broosh Heart in the right place sounds about right, but it doesn't look enjoyable enough for me.
For a few seconds, I thought this was a Digimon game with the title "Digimon, Eat Your Heart Out: Monster-Fusing RPG Cassette Beasts"
As I digimon fan I'm just happy to be included ☺️
Pretty neat. So I guess the local storage PC for these mons must be a ZX81?
Aesthetically, it's hitting all the right notes. Trailer music, pretty spot on. Nostalgia, through the roof. Gameplay was mad light in this trailer. I mean it looks and sounds cool, but until more gameplay and content is displayed, it's a maybe from me.
@Aerona Included how?
Uhm excuse you Digimon? Could you please not come up with a super cool art style that i wish Pokemon had? It's just kinda rude, you know.
@Mana_Knight The title "Digimon, Eat your Heart Out!" sounds kinda cool
Wow, I'm not a fan of pixel art, at all, nut this looks great. I can appreciate great pixel art, but prefer almost anything else except flash graphics.
The monsters look pretty cool and unique! Not super keen on the clashing pixel art and vector UI but you can’t have everything.
Oooo looks really good! Definitely on my watchlist. I am loving the animation they have in the pixel art.
Everything about this game looks beyond amazing except I can't get past the monster designs. I feel the same way about them as I do for most monster franchises: they just don't click with me.
This was first announced a good bit back, so there is a blog that probably has a bit more details on the gameplay, for anyone looking. https://www.cassettebeasts.com/
Think there was a first reveal trailer floating around a while back, too.
smokes a cigarette
Good on your Digimon fans... Good on you...
Gera Gera Po, but also crying
Looks like something I'd pick up on sale one day.
"Digimon, eat your heart out."? For this cal arts garbage? Lol
