It's been another busy week of the Nintendo Life, with plenty of news and points of interest to chew over. There were some shenanigans and surprising visual glitches in Sonic Colors Ultimate, we shared our review of WarioWare: Get It Together!, a LEGO Super Mario 64 '?' Block was revealed, someone mocked up an interesting Switch UI redesign, there were some interesting revelations about the development of Metroid Prime, and much more besides.
After all that it's time to chill out and discuss our weekend gaming plans. A few members of the Nintendo Life team have done just that below, so feel free to give our entries a read and then join in with your own via our comment section. Enjoy!

While perusing the eShop last night I finally bought Townscaper and hope to play around with that over the weekend. I also bought a relatively cheap lot of Japanese Game Boy games which included a single GBA cart: the stupidly named Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3. It’s been a while since I’ve run through SMB3 and I’ve never played this specific version. Paired with Epilogue's GB Operator (review coming as soon as I take delivery of another GB item I want to test with it), that’ll be more than enough to keep me busy.

As the moment my main 'weekend' game is a new playthrough of Luigi's Mansion 3, and it's just as charming as I remember from the first time around. I've also been re-downloading some older games that I bought, started and never actually finished. So I'm having another run at the excellent Shinsekai: Into The Depths, with the plan being to actually see it through to the end this time.
Elsewhere I think I'm heading into the latter parts of Psychonauts 2, which has been an amazing game, potentially my favourite of the year so far. There's also free weekend play of Madden NFL 22, so I'll try a bit of that and lose to the CPU as Chicago Bears.

This weekend, in between playing Dungeons & Dragons, learning to rollerskate, and apparently living it up like it's the '80s, I'll be playing Kitaria Fables, which I'm really enjoying. I'll tell you what I won't be playing, though: Life is Strange: True Colors, which was supposed to be out on Switch, and... isn't. I'm sad.
Alex Olney, senior video producer
With any luck I'll be finally diving into Metroid: Samus Returns properly. I played it a bit back when it was released but due to work-related realities I wasn't able to keep playing it. I managed to snag it for RRP brand new which still feels a bit like a dream, but it's coming all the way from Germany so I don't expect it'll turn up in time for me to play it this weekend. In this disappointingly likely scenario I'll probably barrel head-first into some GameCube classics, because Switch has literally no games released for it ever according to Twitter.

Hey folks! Hope everyone enjoyed the little heatwave in the UK this week. This weekend, I'll be catching up with my neighbours in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and I've also booted up Stardew Valley for some extra farming goodness. I haven't actually bought any new games in a little while, so I'm going back through the backlog and playing some neglected titles like Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse and Death Road to Canada.
Elsewhere, I've restarted Control on the Series X. That game is a true masterpiece in my opinion, and with Alan Wake Remastered just around the corner, I had to dive back into that world again!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Started playing through Atelier Lydie & Shallie a couple of days ago and really enjoying it. Probably my favourite of the Mysterious trilogy based on what I've played so far.
Also playing a fair bit of Slay the Spire at the moment, struggling my way to Ascension 20 with the Silent.
Been sneaking in about 2-3 hours of Groove Coaster before bed too.
Pokemon Picross on 3DS. Isn’t that what everyone is playing?
Also started Horace on Switch. I don’t love the gameplay - I’m not that nostalgic for the 8-bit era - but I can’t deny that it’s a very charming overall package.
I will be mostly chasing high scores in SHMUP's and Pinball for a high score challenge we have going on in our Discord group, with lots of Rocket League on top.
Espgaluda II - I've only played it briefly but I'm already in love. The SHMUP powerhouse that is the Switch has levelled up once more. With Razion EX next week and Dodonpachi Resurrection, Deathsmiles Collection, Cotton Saturn Tribute, Sol Cresta and perhaps even Aleste Branch before the end of the year, it's a great time to be a shmup addict.
Pinball FX 3 - I used to play this game almost daily but it's been more than 2 years since I turned it on. I spotted the Monster Bash/ Creature from the Black Lagoon tables on sale and they appeal to me greatly. So I've bought those and will be looking to avoid finishing last in the high score challenge.
Rocket League - This game is just something else. I've played it for 900 hours and thought I'd reached my max level but I played a few games last night and I was on absolute fire, scoring the kind of goals I rarely if ever score, one after the other. With lots of high air interceptions and epic saves thrown in.
Mahjong by Microsoft (Droid) - Still playing daily challenges and working on the various puzzle packs.
Rayman Fiesta Run (Windows Phone) - I'm really enjoying this on the phone which is a surprise to me.
Equalicious (Windows Phone) - Nearly done with half of the puzzles now.
Some stuff on Wii U, since I fell in love again with that system. 🙂
AC:NH for me. Got it day 1 and still love it.
Probably some Ori, ANCH and perhaps get started on Skyward. Been procrastinating that one since release.
WarioWare on the Switch front meanwhile a few different games on Xbox (Halo 5, Gears 5 and one of the Xbox 360 Tomb Raider games). The Uncharted collection announced at the PS Showcase made me want to return to Tomb Raider games but don't want to replay/continue the XB1 ones until I have a Series X.
Playing some warioware and finally dipped into Immortals fenyx rising, really great game! Also playing some smash bros.
I just got an Analogue Super NT, so I'll be replaying Super Metroid along with Super Mario All-stars.
I'm also finishing up Skyward Sword HD. It's so much better than I remember from my first playthrough on Wii.
I'll also be playing the new WarioWare with the wife.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
I played these games. 🤓
1. Skylanders Superchargers Wii U
2. Super Mario Galaxy 2 Wii
3. Para Para Paradise PS2
I have reached chapter 20 for Skylanders Superchargers. The journey to take until chapter 20 was pretty long and made me sleepy during playing. 😪
I have opened some places in World 4 from Super Mario Galaxy 2.
I played Para Para Paradise at 3 pm as very long time i didn't have some exercise so i played the game for straight 1 hour and picked songs with pretty intense movements on Expert difficulty around first 30 minutes then changed into Hard difficulty after 30 minutes left.
Yakuza 4 (ps4/ps5) - almost done with this game, 5 more chapters to go. It’s fun so far.
Plants Vs Zombies Battle For Neighborville (ps4/ps5) - been trying to get all singleplayer maps 100% completed in co-op with a friend.
Not much this week.
On world 2 of Paper Mario. Not the best game but I am enjoying it.
I love the presentation. The music is spot-on in this game.
@BenAV I've made it to A19 thus far with Silent (other characters are at the A10 mark). A17 took me quite some time to beat, being the difficulty spike that it is.
Will be playing more Monster Train and Slime Rancher (maybe more Spiritfarer as well). Just cleared Covenant 14 in the former.
@Shadeon_Koopa I'm up to A19 with the Silent at the moment too. Up to like A13 with the Ironclad and have beaten A20 with the Defect and the Watcher.
I have a lot that I want to play this weekend
Warioware, donkey kong tropical freeze, skyward sword en some Mario kart online
I am continuing metal gear solid 5 almost reached 50% completion.
Wahrio. Wahrio. Wahooooooo
On Switch, I'll be playing WarioWare: Get it Together. I've played a little bit already, and I'm really enjoying it so far! The character variety's a ton of fun, and I can tell that the missions will add a lot of replay value. I might also get back to Resident Evil Revelations 2 since I should probably do that...
I'll be going on a bit of a GameBoy spree as well probably. I got Super Mario Land 1+2 and Dr. Mario in the mail these last couple of days, so I definitely want to play those. There's also still Mole Mania on 3DS VC that I need to finish... it gets pretty tricky later on.
Other than those, I'd like to get in some more of the Final Fantasy III Pixel Remaster. I hoped to have it done before IV came out, but I don't think I'm even halfway yet...
Gonna die a lot in Spelunky 2 then chill in the afterlife playing Spiritfarer
Horace for me, it's hilarious in places and finding it hard to put down, great game. Also Super Princess Peach on the DS, it's packed full of content and a really underrated game with lots of cool ideas.
If I finish Horace then Ratchet and Clank 3 HD will be next which I'm looking forward to.
Lots of stuff to do this weekend, but hopefully I'll be playing Kitaria Fables in between projects.
Just got Dead Cells Prisoner Edition so I'll be starting that alongside some A Robot Named Fight! on my Switch.
Some Dishonored Definitive Edition on PS4 and some Xenocrisis on my Evercade.
SoulCalibur 2 (XBOX)
Tetris Worlds (XBOX)
Saints Row 2 (XBOX 360)
and maybe Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Switch)
I’m about halfway through Fire Emblem Sacred Stones. I’ve only played post Awakening entries before.
It’s a great bridge to the classic titles as although there is no casual mode or turn wheel it’s not too difficult and there are options to grind on the map if you need a leg up.
The sprite animations are beautiful too. It definitely makes me want to explore more of the older entries.
WarioWare on Switch and Shin Megami Tensei: Demon Summoner on 3DS.
NEO: TWEWY. I’m guessing I’m about halfway. The chapters feel much longer than the original, and sometimes not in a great way when it feels like padding. Still, enjoying it for the most part.
Earlier this week I decided to continue my Chrono Cross playthrough which I dropped around half a year ago because at the time I had too many new games to deal with.
Around 30 hours on it now and very glad I decided to return to it, there's some jank and questionable game design choices for sure but it definitely does come across as a game which the dev really did have a ton of passion for.
Warioware, what else?
Hopefully I’ll get thru yakuza 5 this weekend and play a little warioware after. I’m on the final chapter but I hear it’s final boss is nearly unbeatable without some key training that I missed in a side quest.
@stuie1234 good choice! Nice game
Still playing Skyward Sword, now going back to Skyloft after getting the true Master Sword
Dragon Quest 11 and getting the remaining September fish in AC NH
I’m trying to work through my backlog over the next few months, so I’ll be playing Spiritfarer, Skyward Sword, and perhaps a bit of Ni No Kuni (I’m almost at the end of the game!). I’ve also recently decided to boot up Happy Home Designer on my 3DS on a whim, and I’m LOVING how simple and relaxing it is, so I might play more of that, as well.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis on my Series S.
I just started it Thursday and have been hooked ever since. My job doesn't give me weekends off but I'll find time where I can.
Lonely Mountains Downhill. I hadn’t played the game in awhile, recently got back on the bike and everything just clicked. Been thoroughly enjoying this game, pretty sure I’ll be downloading the DLC for sure at this point.
Other than that I’ll continue my play through of Metro 2033, pretty much at the end. As well as No Nore Heroes 3…really enjoying getting back to the world of insanity that is Travis Touchdown, no experience quite like it. Makes u wonder what Sudas’ drug of choice is…
Of course attempts will be made to tackle the backlog. Might give EverSpace a go finally, see lots of ppl playing Spiritfarer so could consider trying it out too. I’ve really been wanting to replay Astral Chain as well as get back into MH Rise but haven’t had the time, I know …I know…”If u have a watch…u always have time!”. I just made that saying up but u get my drift lol
Enjoy your life this weekend! Happy gaming!
Just beat Psychonauts 2 on the old PS4, a fantastic game! Makes wish we had Psychonauts on the Switch…
Unfortunately I’m back in training for the next 5 weeks… so no gaming. Well no serious gaming. I’ll just be playing Pokémon Go.
My wife and I are playing through Warioware together and we’re loving it. I’ve also been playing through Pikmin 1 for the first time and I couldn’t be more impressed with it. Great weekend for games for me!
Getting in a little bit of Mario Golf and Streets of Rage 4. And I guess I’ll pop in on Animal Crossing.
Had a productive week. Managed to finish the first game of Great Ace Attorney, NEO: TWEWY, Picross S3, and Get It Together’s story mode.
So naturally I’ll be starting the second game, working on NEO’s post game, and just having an all-around blast with WarioWare!
I sound like a broken record, but still juggling Super Robot Wars X, Spelunky, and some Minecraft with the kiddos when opportunities arise. I just haven’t had much gaming time lately.
But Metroid guilt is building so I want to finally jump into Super Metroid before Dread comes out.
Pokemon White and Pokemon Shield for me.
Have a good weekend everyone.
Life has been getting in the way the last couple of weeks. Doubt I’ll get to play much this weekend but over the next week or so…
Quake
Got about two or three levels left on episode 4. Been playing on easy because I’m not the best FPS player but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.
Crash Bandicoot
Think I’m up to 103%. All I’ve got to do is get a time trial relic from Stormy Ascent, which means not dying for about 5-7 mins…eeek!
Skyward Sword (Wii)
Re-Started this in July I think and really enjoyed it. Near the end of the game I reckon (in the Fire Sanctuary) but I don’t get much chance to play the Wii on the main TV.
WarioWare and Hades for me.
Bravely default 2 and pokemon crystal for myself. And luigis mansion 3 with the little guy.
With the SNES 30 year anniversary here I decided to tackle a few games I hadn’t gotten around too. I beat Kirbys Dream Land 3 & I’m currently working on Kirby Super Star. I’m very impressed with Hal Labs SNES projects so far
This week I will be mostly playing
Mario + Rabbids DLC
WarioWare TWISTED
2 Point Hospital
I took some time off of video games for personal reasons, but I'm baaaaaaacccccckkkkkk baby!
Last night I finished No More Heroes 2, and it has honestly sat so well with me that Im willing to give three a shot. Travis is growing up!
I also am starting Moon: Remix RPG, which has always intrigued me, and I'm looking forward to something unlike anything else I've ever played
Hindsight 20/20: Wrath of the Raakshasa
I'll be continuing my journey with Spiritfarer. The game is a lot longer than I thought it would be. Sometimes to the point of tedium, as i find some objectives are rather vague in terms of not knowing where to find certain materials. Yet despite all of that, this game does have an addictive gameplay cycle, the music and visuals are incredible, and i love the characters. Its certainly up there in my top 10 games that I've played in 2021. Would totally recommend.
Mostly Switch games this weekend. About 25 hours in on Kingdoms of Amalur and I'm really enjoying it. Also about 20 hours in on Ys 8, another great game I was glad to add to my collection recently. I started a new game plus of Horizon Zero Dawn on PS5 in anticipation for Horizon Forbidden West, so mabey I'll play some of that as well. Have a great weekend everyone!
I'm getting back into persona 4 and playing some West of Loathing as well!
Going to be playing more Sonic AdventureDX on PC. Also playing Celeste on Switch
@Nontendo_4DS I get you. It's like "nah, nah, nah, boy. You've still got a long way to go..."
I've put in 40+ hours too. It's been a great experience. My point is I haven't had much free time to play recently, so within some days I'll complete my second month playing it in short bursts. That's how it's being possible for me
Just got What the Golf? this weekend. About 25% of the way through the main campaign and have almost completed "Sporty Sports". Also been playing party mode with my sister.
Might jump into BOTW from time to time too.
Probably Tomb Raider Legend on the GBA.
Will try to finish New super Mario Bros u deluxe this weekend and maybe some mario kart. Have a great weekend folks!
@gaga64 warioware twisted for the gba is a really great ww game. Together with the first on gba, touched on the ds and smooth moves on the wii the best ww games
More Nelke, Portia, SuperMash, Skyrim and Warframe on Switch, with decent odds of NFS Hot Pursuit, Welcome to Primrose Lake, Spiritfarer and Saints Row as well. Some Blue Reflection, Tail Concerto and potentially Airship Q and SAO Hollow Fragment on the Vitas, and I might at least mark WarioWare GIT release by finally trying a bit of DIY. The laptop should see more Elder Scrolls (Morrowind and, uh, 2E Morrowind😆) plus more Just Cause 2 and Final Fantasy XIII.
I'm playing Rocket League, WRC 9, Warioware Get It Together, Dirt 5, and probably Rift Apart if it arrives in the mail today. I'm still blown away by 120fps graphics, especially in WRC 9. The replay mode in that game is absolutely perfect. Seeing the rays of dawn sunlight spiking through the trees as my Lancia flys over dirt looks like magic at 120hz.
I've also been reading aloud to patients and had the awesome experience of reading this famous old Zen poem to someone thus morning who said it was the best thing that happened to them in months! That's better than 120fps : )
Warioware! Already finished the story mode yesterday, so it will be played as a party game this weekend. I will be forcing my sister to play Mario Golf tomorrow, but mostly I’ll be playing LiS: True Colors.
I've been playing WarioWare since yesterday, and neglecting my duties of making a new game in SmileBASIC...
I'm going to have to do that, tonight..
Busy busy busy!
Super Mario Maker 2 to play some of the 5YMM anniversary levels. Also Rogue Legacy which I just got addicted to after not realizing I owned it because of confusion with Rogue Heroes.
Hopefully gonna finish Skyward Sword this weekend, over 65 hours in and it’s become one of my favourite Zelda games ever. The dungeons in this game are phenomenal. To all those people who bawled their eyes out over SixtyDollarGate, this was brand new to me and it was worth every penny.
@Ooyah Rabbids suck.
they suck and there is nothing good about them IMHO
just go play Rayman.
WarioWare very excited to sink more into that and I’m going to be putting more time into Cristales
@Ooyah clear.... with some garlic....
WarioWare because WarioWare.
Shining Force II on SEGA Mega Drive Classics on Steam
Switch - No More Heroes III
PS5 - The Medium
@DBTheHumbleSavage
Or WarioWare? 😉
Tales of Arise and Warioware.
I’ve played WarioWare for about five hours tonight. I’m now off to bed.
The absence of a Smooth Moves successor really hurts though. While I’m sure this will keep me busy for a little while, it’s far from the series’ best, mainly due to the lack of balance due to the wildly disparate movesets between characters.
WarioWare is just screaming for a new motion control experience. Hell, they could have repurposed many of the existing microgames on offer for a separate motion control mode.
In any case, I really, really hope that another WarioWare game comes along sooner rather than later.
WarioWare Get It Together,Psychonauts,Shantae.
Yoshi's Island
It's swing time! Fightin' for justice! Take no prisoners! Knockin' trouble out!
The Spider-Man 2 reveal (2023!?) has me pumped. Time to go back and finish my Ultimate file on the PS5 version of MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN.
Wow, I went and got Warioware and they had Cruisin Blast so I got it too. It is fun! It's not locked at 60fps, but close enough for me. It's just so fun! I've been wanting San Fransisco Rush 1, 2, and 2049 on Switch, but this is better! If they bring those three games to Switch it would be awesome if they incorporated some of Cruisin Blast's feature. The music is awesome, the graphics are perfectly over the top (and look good in handheld too), and playing the game just makes me smile. I've been enjoying WRC 9, F1 2021, and both Dirt Rally's, so it's great to play this kind of arcade racing. The game even has checking, like in Burnout! So cool.
Warioware Get It Together is amazing too. The sound design is impeccable. Every menu and submenu I go into has great music, the high score screen has an awesome little song, the sound effects work perfectly as you go to higher and higher speeds, and it just is a masterclass in sound design (like Mario Maker 2 is also). Plus, of course it is fun as hell. It feels like the game is made of the same magic as the original GBA cart.
I'm also glad I love these two games so much because I was worried I was becoming a PlayStation fanboy. I love 120fps and the dual sense, and it would be great if these games ran at 120, but they are fun and playable at 60. I'm surprised I mostly want 120fps in Warioware. It's not a big deal, but when I move Wario across the screen I can see the lack of motion clarity of 60fps. My TV would help with it's blur reduction setting maxed out, but I'm just playing everything on my old computer monitor now and it doesn't have that feature.
Awesome games though, I highly recommend Warioware and Cruisin' Blast! COME ON, let's go cruuuisin!
@JHDK what's AN:NH?
Playing Mario 3d world, finally. Never owned a wii u. Mario Odyssey was way too easy, imo, but man, this game makes me miss the camera in that game. I will have to get used to the stiff camera that's very limited (even in bowser's fury, oddly). it seems it's to make the levels artificially harder w limited visibility. Not aging well.
With how nuts the world has been lately, I wanted to play some fun games that make me smile, so I bought and have been playing a bunch of the DS and 3DS Lego games. It is exactly what I needed. Pirates of the Caribbean is so fun. So is The Force Awakens.
I also have been giving both Sonic Boom games on the 3DS another go. I don't understand the hate on those two. They are a ton of fun as well.
@OorWullie That's awesome. The shoot em ups and Rocket League. I think I'm almost a platinum now. I went up to plat 3 and almost diamond the other day in 2s with someone, but then started losing as much as we won. But in 1s I'm a low gold. 1s seems harder than any other mode. I'm almost at the point where I can't play Rocket League on my Switch anymore. I've been playing at 144fps on my laptop and 60 on PS5 (they really need to release that 120fps patch for PS5), and when I go back to Switch it looks softer and doesn't really seem to stay at 60fps. I did play for an hour tonight on Switch and started adjusting to it though.
Rocket League is the most fun game I've ever played.
I just went on the eshop and realised the lady shouldn't have sold me Cruisin Blast yet! I also had her get Deathloop out of the case to buy. She told me I couldn't buy it yet, but let Cruisin slip through the release date crack. I'm glad she did because it really is a blast.I highly recommend Cruisin Blast!
@twztid13 maybe animal crossing new horizons? I don't know
I've also ended up playing Mario gold super rush. Still love that game!
No More Heros 3! This is the hardest game in the series. I'm rocking like 27 deaths. Im on the haunted school chick boss.. In my opinion No More Heros 2 is the best in the series though.
Not what I'd planned, but last night I started a second playthrough of God of War 3 remastered. Obviously the 2018 entry is the better game, but this one is still a fantastic-looking game with a lot of entertainment. Also finished Mario's Super Picross on the SNES online app.
Cruis'n Blast for me, just received my physical copy. It plays great so far, certainly recommended..
Wario Ware Get it Together. Was incredibly fun. I've beat the main story and A-ranked the current Wario Cup (Which is pretty tough with 9-Volt's controls).
I'll be working through each missions and trying to max out the characters(depending on how long it takes).
Tokyo School Life and Wolfenstein Youngblood on Switch Lite
@Guitar_bard You should play If My Heart Had A Wings and Tokyo School Life to help feel good. Those will definitely make you feel positive.
@JustMonika Thanks so much for the recommendations! That is awesome. My daughter and I always looking for something new and fun.
Thanks again!
Died a million times in Spelunky trying to get the key from World 1 to the end of World 3 fir the final piece to get all tunnel shortcuts
