Nintendo's latest Direct presentation went out with a bang - with the reveal of actual gameplay footage of Bayonetta 3.
It's been dated to arrive on the Switch at some point in 2022, but there still seems to be some fans out there wondering if it'll be released on other platforms. The game's executive producer, Hideki Kamiya, has now commented on the title's exclusivity.
So, what's the situation here? It's a Nintendo-funded release - so all of the decisions are up to Nintendo. While a port isn't necessarily "impossible" there's about as much as a chance of Mario and Link showing up other platforms, according to Hideki.
Here's the full translation of Hideki's latest tweets, courtesy of Nintendo Everything:
"Just like with Bayonetta 2, we’re developing Bayonetta 3 with funding from Nintendo. We are only involved in development. All decisions about the final product are up to Nintendo. So feel free to send your requests of ‘release the game on other consoles’ to Nintendo. If Nintendo asks us to port the game to PS5, we might do that.
"I mean, I guess the likelihood of Bayonetta 2 and 3 coming to PS5 and Xbox isn’t impossible – it’s Nintendo’s decision. By that same logic, it’s not impossible that games like Mario and Zelda could be show up on PS5 or whatever. So good luck sending passionate pleas to Nintendo and trying to get that to happen… If I were you, I’d simply buy a Switch."
Hideki made similar comments in regards to Bayonetta 2's Nintendo exclusivity, and to date the title has remained a Wii U and Switch exclusive. So, there you go - if you want to play Bayonetta 3, Kamiya's advice is to "simply buy a Switch".
Will you be picking up Bayonetta 3 when it arrives exclusively on the Nintendo Switch next year? Comment below.

Y'know, it's not the fans who get me when they ask for certain games to come to their consoles of choice (I've done it several times, particularly with the Disney Afternoon Collection and the 8-Bit Adventure Anthology), but it's when other sites start putting up supposed think-pieces of "why Nintendo Exclusive X deserves to be on PlayStaion/Xbox."
I'll get the popcorn ready.
As it should, the series would be dead if it weren't for Nintendo.
What happened to play station users who couldn't shut up for a minute about Project Eve last week? Go play that.
I restarted the first one again last night as i own both but have never completed any. Looking forward to having the trilogy and probarbly still not completing any 😂
Yeah you tell em Kamiya! Can't believe people will actually petition to have a game release on their console of choice when the simple thing to do and likely quickest way to play a console exclusive is to buy the system it's exclusive to.
Asking for this on PS5 is just as silly as expecting BOTW 2 to show up on there. You want it you know where to find it. Now make your choice.
'Yeah it's possible... as possible as Mario and Zelda on other consoles' Brilliant.
Removed - current gen piracy/emulation
Nintendo should just buy the Bayo IP outright from Sega, they don’t seem to care or put any worth in it so i’m sure it wouldn’t even be an expensive acquisition.
Bayonetta is a Nintendo character at this point and some people need to already accept that and move on.
@Itachi2099 Truth be told this IP would be dead if it wasn't for Nintendo. Kinda wish they would do the same for Madworld. Same for No More Heroes but that is a different story.
@Itachi2099 Exactly. At this point, Bayonetta is as much a Nintendo character as Zelda. Two exclusive games out of three in the franchise pretty much cements that.

While I’m not a huge bayo fan it gives me great pleasure to see these jokers wringing their hands hoping for the impossible. Schadenfreude at its finest. Someone call the wahmbulance.
@The-Chosen-one yeah! Of course he did ( massive eye roll ).
Don't understand why this needs to be reiterated every time Nintendo and Platinum make a game together...Would you rather Bayonetta 2 and 3 not exist because they wouldn't if it weren't for Nintendo. Instead of being mad at Nintendo for making these games possible, be mad at Sega, Sony, whoever for not funding them.
While I am usually always for "the more (platforms) the merrier", the Bayonetta games are a different case. The franchise would be dead if Nintendo didn't step in so them being exclusive to Nintendo hardware just seems right. We already know Bayonetta 3 will get reviewbombed from console fanboys just like Astral Chain
@The-Chosen-one nice job googling Switch emulator, as if that's at all what anyone is talking about, and regurgitating the first thing you saw that sounded impressive.
I haven't seen anyone asking this to be on Xbox or PS5.
So... Don't. Take. The. Bait.
I mean obviously, exclusives funded by the manufacturer of the console are very unlikely to go cross-platform and port-begging the developers is going to go nowhere, but fanboys gonna whine. Now, when is Spider-Man coming to Switch Insomniac?!
Is it just me, or do people just want the switch to lose all of its exclusives, I mean why?
"Simply buy a switch" is tw** advice.
It sounds like a some fans are just not well informed. I think Bayonetta 1 being multiplatform plays a part in that. And it certainly doesn't help with Bayonetta 1 being bundled with Vanquish for PS4 and Xbox One. So even there new fans will wonder about the sequels.
It reminds of the time when Sony got Street Fighter V for PlayStation and I still see a some Xbox fans being angry about it in some general chats now and then. They don't seem to understand it's Sony that helped fund it and the game wouldn't have been made without them. So it's not going to be the last we see of this
Fine,
I'll play Bayonetta on my 360 again then.
😜
I don't understand why Sony and Xbox fans complain about the lack of Bayonetta on other platforms as if they don't already have Devil May Cry and Project Eve. The reason Bayonetta is a Nintendo exclusive is because they are the only ones who care enough to continue on with more games.
On the other hand, we're getting Banjo Kazooie, so anything's possible. But then it's probably easier to let an emulation of a 20 year old game than it is to give up the keys to a franchise that might sell a switch or two.
@Snatcher It's ridiculous how people are complaining about how Bayonetta needs to on Playstation or Xbox for better graphics or everyone whining about having to buy a Switch in order to play it.
@TheGamerNextDoor Seems like many rather than some 😏
Many only react to what they read (and more only react to the headline) without bothering to read further into things.
Guess everyone is guilty of that from time to time but it does get ridiculous sometimes.
Then again, gaming media also helps fuel this insane port begging I think. I wouldn't put it past some to have opinion pieces about why a Switch exclusive shouldn't be 'held back' by lack of power.
Nintendo let Platinum port Wonderful 101 to PC and PS4 (I think the Kickstarter was part of the agreement) so it could happen but it's very highly unlikely. The only part of the Nintendo funded Bayonetta releases that ended up on other platforms is the Japanese dub if the first game. Nintendo funded that, but it ended up on the PC port (not sure about the Xbox/PS4 port)
@Kidfunkadelic83 why not? The final parts of the games and the end bosses really go over the top and the games have a wicked but actually good story. Sure, I'm not really good at those games, but it still was great fun to finish them.
Good job i bought one years ago then:)
@LillianC14 Nintendo gave the IP back to platinum. Platinum could then do whatever they wanted with it.
@LillianC14 Yeah, that’s the only thing that makes Bayonetta 3 a different story really. I never would have thought they’d ever let TW101 go multi-platform but here we are. That said, Bayonetta is a much bigger fish than TW101, really doubt they would let that series go to other platforms besides the first game which they have no say in. Maybe a long time down the road they’ll let it happen but not any time soon, no way.
@larryisanassman Nintendo does not own the Wonderful 101 IP anymore.
@kobashi100 they didn’t give them the IP, they still co-own it. They told Platinum if they will self-publish it and raise enough Kickstarter money, then they can have a go-ahead and remaster it multiplatform.
In a time where the vast majority of 3rd party Switch console exclusives go to PC, I would've thought if Bayonetta 3 was fully exclusive to Switch that PC would've been mentioned alongside PS5 and Xbox in that comment.
@Chamver
They're jealous because Nintendo usually has the best exclusives! 😉
Sega, Sony and Microsoft refused to fund Bayonetta 2 and 3.
Blame Sony for Bayonetta not coming to PS5.
They are nagging the wrong person.
@Ricube because my attention span is terrible. Its not just Bayo that sits on my shelf not completed. Id say about 80% of my games do 😂
I have no idea how the contracts between Nintendo and Platinum work, but Wonderful 101 crossed over so I don't know that it's impossible. But rumor on the street is Sony is really losing Japan. I know Bayonetta has found a fan base in the west but if the sale projections in Japan aren't there, I'm not sure there's a lot of incentive to get Bayonetta back on Playstation.
@DomGC And if you just want to see the story play out, dropping them down to easy mode will let you cruise through them. It took me a while to beat Bayonetta 2 (which I played first) because I played through the entire game at normal difficulty. Then I played the first game, but my patience was wearing thin. So I switched to easy and quickly finished it.
@The-Chosen-one More like "I only steal games from illegal rom sharing sites and play them on emulators", but go off sis, give us nothing
@TheFox i will get on it today 👌
@Grumblevolcano
Bayonetta 3 is fully funded by Nintendo, whereas 3rd party Switch exclusives are still 3rd party games.
I don’t want to go off topic but I’m a huge Nintendo Switch fanatic. The only thing that I wish Nintendo would spend more money on would be for the game exclusives that are only on the Arcade 1up machines. Seriously who here has the money to buy every Arcade 1up machine just for a particular game?
If its good ill emulate it
@westman98 I just feel it's really odd PC wasn't mentioned given more recently PC has increasingly become a bubble where exclusivity doesn't apply so if you wanted to fully make it clear a game was fully Switch exclusive you'd mention no to PC as well.
I'd triple dip if Zelda (Botw) came out on PC or Xbox (if i had a PS, that too). As for Bayonetta 3, so glad it's out next year, hopefully whatever Nintendo do next will be backward compatible with Switch. Kamiya said the same about Bayo 2 on Wii U and drew alot of flak from PS fanboys ( fanpeople? or just plain Fanny's).
Yeah, I'm buying it. All that extra stuff he said sounds kinda like he's trolling cuz he knows Nintendo isn't going to do that. Who knows though, maybe they'll let Microsoft get a port considering Microsoft has let Nintendo have a few games over the years🤷🏾♂️
Yeah thats what you get for having shadow of the colossus
@Itachi2099 maybe Nintendo needs more mature characters.
Whilst I agree with everything that was said, and the Mario Zelda comment is amusing... it doesn't come across very well to make comments like that.
Nintendo should put "Only on Switch" on their packaging and key art, like the N64, if they want to stop people asking these questions.
Or, you know, just answer the question normally. Yes, it's amusing what he said, but yea, it also comes across quite poorly.
Now, I asked for Monkeyball. A lot. But you would be wasting your time asking for this on Playstation. It's practically 1st party.
More proof that Twitter adds nothing to society.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I love hearing from other people who are like this. I'm the exact same way. I hardly ever finish a game before I'm distracted by something new.
Bayo 2 is one of the exceptions, though, because it actually is short enough to finish if you play it on Easy. Definitely worth doing if, like me, you feel guilty about never finishing things.
Well didn't Nintendo also fund Project Zero V/Fatal Frame V in the same way? There were also some Nintendo staff credited in the realisation of the game... and now that's coming to all the other platforms as well, so...
@Grumblevolcano
I think Kamiya was addressing the console warriors port-begging for Bayo 3 on PlayStation and Xbox.
If Bayonetta was merely console exclusive rather than fully exclusive to Nintendo hardware, Bayo 2 would have gotten ported to PC alongside the first game. That didn't happen, which is very much indicative of Nintendo's role in the funding and development of Bayo 2 and 3.
Just started Bayo 2 last night in preparation for 3 next year. So far loving it. So OTT.
I'd prefer if all games were on all platforms, but I can't be angry at a platform holder funding a game and then keeping that game exclusive to their platform.
Though it would be nice if Nintendo followed MS or at least Sony, in releasing PC ports.
@RudyC3 The Fatal Frame series was never that well received in the first place despite the series having a cult following. Other aspect was that since it's not originally their IP they couldn't find ways to evolve it. Nintendo only got involve so to help market the series in Japan and knowing the series didn't do so well, it's best they just leave as a multiplatform game series. Some people forgot that the first two Fatal Frame games were based on real events before it got turn into a fictional horror series. This is why not many people treat the later ones with the same expectation cause it mostly just repeat the same concept and ideas from the first two.
@Octane
Clearly you haven’t to many other sites then. IGN’s comment sections alone has plenty of people wanting Bayonetta 3 and 2, on PlayStation and Xbox.
Haters just gotta suck it up and deal with the only options they got, which is buy a Switch or don't play the game.
OMEGALUL
One of the things I hate about the Internet and social media is how a tiny handful of people can often get represented as a majority. If 10 of the 100+ million PlayStation owners tweet someone and demand they port a game it leads to articles about the supposed demands of PlayStation fans and comments sections accusing every PS and Xbox owner of this and that. Not only do most PS owners not spend their lives harassing games developers on Twitter, but an awful lot clearly don't particularly care about Bayonetta sequels, or the sales and demand for the first game would have meant that Nintendo never needed to get involved in the financing the sequel. But this is the internet, so everything gets exaggerated as every click counts.
I think Kamiya doesn't want it on other platforms anyway. They did approach Microsoft and Sony to help fund Bayonetta 2 and were turned away. There might be a bit of resentment there.
As we have seen with Fatal Frame, Daemon X Machina and Wonderful 101, Nintendo can be flexible.
At least Nintendo doesn't hide the fact that they have exclusivity rights for this Sega series, unlike a certain other Sega spin-off series in which Sony has held onto the fifth installment for far too long.
I have no issue wanting or asking for multiplat games. Or games that should be multiplat which are bribed away in order to devalue other platforms rather than add value to their own platform organically.
But a game like this, made possible by a platform manufacturer... come on.
I've been seeing a lot of Twitter uproar over this. People get so used to their platform bribing away multiplats as exclusives they start to feel like they're entitled to whatever they set their greedy eyes on.
@BionicDodo
I agree for the most part.
At the same time, the first one sold over a million copies in 7th gen, and that was before the social media boom. Games today are doing better than ever, and I have no doubt this game would do very well if multiplat, perhaps even match Nier Automata.
@TanukiTrooper
Keep in mind, The Wonderful 101 was crowdfunded to be remastered and it's a Platinum IP, not Nintendo's. If Nintendo paid them for a remaster, it would've been exclusive to the Switch.
Um, excuse me Captain Sarcasm, the CDi wants a word…
@JasmineDragon im terrible for it. It doesnt help that i love RPG's and despite owning all the Yakuzas on ps4 and 5 or 6 on switch ive only ever completed Final fantasy remake 😂😂
Bayonetta 2 runs like butter on the PC with Yuzu or CEMU. I am sure Bayonetta 3 will run just as well.
Just a reminder, emulation <> "coming to other platforms". And no one is impressed you downloaded some stuff and ran it on your PC, and Nintendo doesn't care either since they go after big distributors not random nobodies.
Why is it people accept exclusives if it’s their system of choice only? It’s been two games, let it go. You wanna play get the system the game is on. Same with Spiderman or forza. Kamiya must have stock in aspirin from dealing with this nonsense.
If they wanna be mad, they should have bought the first game in enough numbers to have SEGA keep it MS/Sony (as it was originally). Or petitioned MS/Sony when P* was shopping for funding. Since they didn’t Nintendo swooped in and nobody can fault SEGA or P* for taking money. This isn’t a charity.
That being said, I am not saying this in a gloating fashion, however all consoles (and PC) have exclusives and most gamers know the logistics behind it. And considering Nintendo fans have been told to buy another system when a non console maker funded game didn’t go multiplat (persona 5) there is no reason to get bent out of shape about Bayo.
I wonder if mobile gamers act like this.
@Kidfunkadelic83 (Looks at DQ11, the Witcher, Skyrim, Divinity: Original Sin 2, FE:3H, BOTW and SMT3 on the Switch shelf, all unfinished)
Yeah, nothing gets me excited like a nice, long, crunchy RPG that I will never, ever finish. Just last night I pulled the trigger on Atelier Ryza 2, even though I'm in the middle of three other things and never finished Ryza 1. (Got stuck on what I think is the final boss, believe it or not.)
For months now I've been thinking about buying a new gaming laptop. You know, so I can buy even more long, crunchy games that I will 50% if I'm lucky.
The general rule of thumb with Japanese Switch 3rd party exclusives is, if Nintendo isn't funding them, they'll always come to PC. For example, Daemon X Machina, Bravely Default 2, Moon, Monster Hunter Rise and Stories 2, Deadly Premonition 2 and most likely No More Heroes 3 have come / will come to PC. But since Nintendo is funding this and own the IP to Astral Chain, you won't see them anywhere else (aside from emulating them on PC).
@JasmineDragon Yep. I have the majority of those between the switch and PS4, unfinished, naturally 😂
Until the next generation, when it is ported to the next Nintendo console for $60 (or $70 if the price hike happens).
The PS5 won’t be able to run this game, be honest.
@Grumblevolcano If a game is funded by Nintendo, they don't allow it on PC.
Still. It's about time Nintendo losen up vs PC when even the stubborn and arrogant Sony did.
Microsoft releases 100% of Xbox games on PC, but not all their PC games is released on Xbox. (Age of Empires etc.)
PC have 1000's of exclusives that were never released on any console ever.
PC is the winner, because of Xbox Games and Sony exclusives on top.
Perhaps PC is a needle in Nintendo's wheel, because even Switch is emulated on PC and is why they ignore PC.
I find it amusing, when Nintendo has something exclusive people scream it needs to be on their console of choice. With PlayStation… no, they run the other way and say “buy a PlayStation.” The tongues of these people are safely attached to Jeri Ryan’s boot.
I'm buying it Day 1!
I'm not going to celebrate the fact that non-Switch owners aren't going to be able to play this game natively on their console of choice. Remember how excited a lot of you were that Banjo-Kazooie was coming to NSO? How about when they were announced for Smash? Remember when the Ori games came to Switch? Cuphead? None of that had to happen, and wouldn't have, if Microsoft adopted the same mindset about exclusivity as Nintendo. I know a lot of you have been port-begging for Persona 5 for years as well, lol.
With that said, I've never understood the whining about exclusivity from some people, either. If a game is worth spending hours or days of your life crying about online, it's probably worth buying a console for. There has never been a generation where all of the worthwhile games were on one platform, so refusing to buy more than one means you're probably going to miss out on some stuff you want. Exclusives are designed to sell people on consoles and ecosystems, so I use them as a benchmark to decide when a platform is worth buying.
Yeah, wanting bayonetta on other consoles is almost as ridiculous as wanting Persona games on Switch. Good that Switch owners would never do that.
Cya
Raziel-chan
Life is not that complicated. People make it more complicated than it needs to be. For some of them, it is their life's mission.
Makes me wonder if or even when Nintendo will just buy Sega and/or Platinum Games outright to continue making games in the Bayonetta series.
Always enjoyed Kamiya's no-nonsense approach.
@The-Chosen-one The Switch emulator is called Yuzu. Cemu is the Wii U emulator.
Sometimes i think twitter and social media in general were a mistake, but then I'm reminded of hideki kamiya's twitter account
A shame some games don't get ported to PC at least (heck, even some Sony games are available there), but Nintendo will never allow that, obviously. Funny that one could in theory already play most Nintendo Switch games on a good pc already, though.
Hmhmhm yes, stoke the fires of the neverending console wars! Cry and argue for my amusement, peons wahahaha!
@N8tiveT3ch I would LOVE a new release of Mad World. That was my favorite Wii game.
Funny how both PS and Xbox players brag about their exclusives like Starfield and Spider-Man and that whole "exclusives are good for industry" but anything on switch and they become port beggars
@TheEnygma I feel that it is more on the PlayStation fanboys who are complaining. Xbox fanbase is just more like ok whatever
Well, I mean, we DID get Cuphead and Ori from Microsoft on the Switch...
But that's none of my business. It's up to Nintendo.
Why do I get some disgruntled vibes from the creators, every time they mention Nintendo? It never reads like they agree with Nintendo's way of doing things.
@RudyC3 same thing happened with LEGO City Undercover.
There are Nintendo credits on the Wii U version (the Japanese version even credits Mario Club, Nintendo's own debugging company, for debugging that version) and on the Switch version they're somewhat removed, only being mentioned on the "Special Thanks" at the very end, though I appreciate the mention of the late Satoru Iwata. Not sure if the PS4/Xbox One/PC versions mention them.
I'm assuming it's the same on The Wonderful 101 Remastered and will be the same in Fatal Frame V: Maiden of Black Water.
@lokozar he seemed rather neutral, not disgruntled or anything like that in his statement.
In other words, Hideki Kamiya straight up did a 90's NBA Jam dunk on the subject and all we hear is "Boom Shaka Laka!!"
If Nintendo decided to share it (or Astral Chain) with Microsoft for them doing us a few solids, I’d not completely lose sleep over it. Still, though, looking forward to playing it next year!
And yes, bring back Madworld, dammit!
Honestly, you can get a launch switch for like $150 if you shop around. If you want just the tablet about $100. Add bayo3 for $60, cheap wireless controller off amazon with USB c charging and you could be playing for about $200.
so upfront lol, i can respect how he doesnt beat around the bush on it
@RetiredR There's a line drawn in the sand. Ever seen Hook? You're either with Peter Pan or you're with Rufio.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I've been wanting to start them as well. I thought they always looked good but never got around to them. Something keeping you from finishing them? Worth playing now?
@JudgeMethos not going to happen since nintendo didnt allow bayonetta 2 to be on other platforms neither will bayonetta 3.
@gamefan37 im pretty sure nintendo has some ownership over the bayonetta ip now since there the only ones that care about the bayonetta franchise and fund for more sequels down the road.
@TOMAWOLF nah man, just my attention span and my need to start every new game i get 😂. Im actually playing Bayo 1 right now. Decided to actually start it and see it through this time.... 🤔 Its full of cheesy 1 liners and plenty of provocative camera angles but its great.
@gamefan37 since when do you work at Nintendo and know how their buyout structure works? How many years did it take Nintendo to buy NextLevelGames?
Lucky for me I have a Switch! Will be my first Bayonetta game. Reminds me of playing as V and his shadow cat.
Fanboys: This generation hardly has any exclusives! I wish they'd come back. 🧐
Also fanboys: No! (platform x) sucks! Release the exclusive for MY favourite system! The one I have! You're doing it wrong! 🧐 🧐 🧐 🧐 🧐 🧐
@LillianC14 From what I heard with wonderful 101 was that Nintendo went to platinum and offered to publish the switch port and platinum turned them down
@Kidfunkadelic83 I'm the same way man
Honest question, do these internet ppl continously begging for ports in general actually want to play these games to completion? Do they really have that much time to play all these games? I mean there are so many good titles in every gaming platform.
@MajinSoul You know, I think reports of review-bombing (at least when it comes to games) diminished a lot after Metacritic started a policy of only allowing user reviews a few days after a game is launched.
The mentality Nintendo fans have over Bayonetta 3 is a stark contrast over their mentality towards Rare Replay
@gamefan37 Stranger things have happened. Famously, Howard Lincoln, the President of Nintendo of America at the time (I'm American), said at congressional hearings about violent video games in 1993 that Night Trap would never appear on a Nintendo console. But in 2018, Night Trap DID appear on a Nintendo console, that being the Switch, the great irony of which was noted at the time.
Look as long as Vanquish 2 get's picked up by Sony and funded by them. I'm ok with this. Could careless about Bayonetta. I have so many copies of that game and its sequel fall in my lap for free, its almost like they want people to play their game and continuously fail to make time for it lol.
Look if you're a fan, then you likely have a switch already. I get that it sucks that its running hardware that greatly reduces its ability to be fully realized. On the other hand, better to get the game rather than not at all. I commend Nintendo for committing the funds to it. Lots of great games have been funded in this way like Street Fighter V. Though Capcom was a bit smarter than Platinum games in negotiating a PC release at least.
"simply buy a Switch if you want to play". Make me. Triple dare you. Emulator is here. Already play both Bayonetta.
I was a fan of Bayonetta before the series even hit a Nintendo console. Bought the 1st game day 1 on the 360. I honestly don’t care if it’s exclusive or not. I’m just getting Bayonetta 3 whenever it drops.
@blockfight omg i did the same!! Flaps hands with mouth wide open
I have a Switch Lite and will be buying it for sure!
No thanks. Not about to play in 720p and 30fps on a weak ass console. I'll wait for the Yuzu or Ryujinx emulation. Nintendo keeps trying to put these high fidelity games on their system that can barely put out well enough for the likes of BotW and Odyssey and expect people to be "fine" with that. Bayonetta 2, Witcher 3, Daemon X Machina and more look and play better on an emulator or different console/PC of available. Nintendo should protect their IP's, but stifling developers who could be making more money by limiting who they can develop for is stupid, since Nintendo would be getting a piece of the pie regardless of where Bayonetta is sold if they own the rights to it.
@UnnamedAvatar
Soooo Cool
@kobashi100 I’m guessing the deal was, “you can have it back, but we keep Astral Chain and Bayonetta”
...wouldn't it be nice to have a universal console where you're just pay a subscription or a physical chip or a digital license from Sony to play PS games, Microsoft to play xbox games, and Nintendo to play nintendo games. All you need is one physical console unit.
It will eventually come for pc i give it a year
@wert303b So then there is no innovation, and will that console be a handheld, tv-only or hybrid?
Also a "console" like that already exists. And I'm using it right now to type this message: A PC.
@sanderev I see your point on how it might stop innovation. Another way to look at it is that the big 3 might be able to combine efforts and resources to offer more meaningful hardware innovation to the gaming industry.
And thanks for clarifying, I meant a tv-only console. But this would kill the NSW concept...lol. I guess the point I was making is finding a way of legally enabling players to play exclusives without having to shell out more for an whole new console or gaming device...reduce e-footprint, reduce the physical space each console would take up, and reduce the clutter with less of everything.
Technically speaking, it's possible...you're right - we already have the PC ...I suppose it would be great if all games had an official PC version, this would be another way around it.
I'm impressed that he still manages to sound rational about it after all this time. ^^
@Chips07
What, you mean before it runs well on Yuzu? :v
Good grief, the callous entitlement I see sometimes is something to behold. While being a far, far, far cry from either the Wii U days, the N64 days or even the freaking Wii days, the Switch is still routinely skipped over whenever any third party IP announces a new iteration. "Simply buy an Xbox or a PS5", we're told.
What goes around...
@gamefan37 Never say never, the Philips CDI and Mobile happened. You don't know what the future will hold for gaming. Nintendo goes where the money is, otherwise they wouldn't have released on mobile, that isn't Nintendo hardware.
@Meteoroid first off moron, I have a Switch and Switch Lite. 2nd, not only have I graduated business school but I run my own business. Third, anyone with half a brain would realize that selling on multiple platforms would mean an increase in revenue. Lastly, everyone like you seems to forget that Bayonetta was multi-platform. Imagine now if Mario came out for every console and then suddenly they're like, "nah, just for PC now" or Call of Duty went from every platform to just Google Stadia. Now imagine the devs said they would make those multi-platform again, but the big company said no. Went would you as a developer want to stay in that contract once time is up? You have potential to make millions more but black tie corpo's say no.
Wanna Bayo 3 on PS5? Ask your mom.
When will people get this through their head?
@kobashi100 No they didn't.
"...gave the IP back...". It's co-ownership. There was nothing to give back.
The agreement was if Platinum wants to release the game multi-platform, they would fund it themselves.
Who actually owns the rights to Bayonetta, though? I know Sega originally did, and I don't think Nintendo bought it from them to make 2 and 3, yet Sega isn't even remotely involved in the production of these games anymore.
@wert303b Your idea is very consumer based. And even a "one console to rule it all" could have a portable version as well. (downclocked but most games would still run fine)
However it would stop innovation, because competition drives innovation. That one console would be a perfect "monopoly" for a console. And that would mean: no reason to innovate because you already have all the consumers.
So yeah, exclusives suck. But we need exclusives in order to innovate.
MS releases almost all games on PC which does weaken the XBOX hardware (sales) which is why Sony (with only a handful of PC games) continues to keep the top spot. Nintendo is left in the middle here, but it would be worse if Nintendo would release their latest games on PC as well.
@Joker1234 Are they though? You may be right, just haven’t seen it yet.
Console fanboys are mad Nintendo is only system that still stands by exclusives. Microsoft largely gave up that by porting practically everything to PC and even Sony is porting their 1st parties now and could possible end up like Microsoft soon.
Love this man. He only ever speaks the truth and is just so relatable and honest no matter what.
@gamefan37 Doesn't change the fact it happened. In 50 years time, they might do a two year stint porting games to PC. But to be honest, by then we'll likely have so much better hardware than Nintendo and be able to just emulate it as it's released .
I'm honestly surprised at how closed minded some of Nintendo's own fans are. All i said is I (myself) would buy BotW for a third time (got it on Wii U and Switch, day one)if it was ported to other hardware, acknowledging that there is a possible market for it (it's also great emulated). Even Sony aren't blind to it.
@SwitchVogel I think the rights reverted to Platinum as Sega didn't pursue a sequel (so didn't protect or protest). Nintendo now published 2 and 3 so it's likely the rights are jointly held by Platinum and Nintendo currently. They would revert back to Platinum if Nintendo ceases to publish for a period of time. It's similar to movies, where Sony nearly lost Spiderman due to time lapse, so made the Andy Garfield movie's to utilise the license. It may be possible in 10-20 years, if Platinum are still in business, they could retain the rights or secure full rights and self publish out of their own pocket, a remastered Bayo Trilogy for PC, Xbox 6, PS7 and Nintendo super Switch 64 .
@Arawn93 PC is the biggest gaming market(after mobile), that's why Sony and MS don't mind releasing on PC. As the hardware is increasingly similar to PC, ports can be incorporated into the main production budget, which actually helps with long term costs. Dev costs rise each generation, so to ignore that big a market is a little foolish.
@FargusPelagius https://trademarks.justia.com/774/44/bayonetta-77444642.html
I just looked into it, and Sega does indeed still hold the trademark. However, given that their name isn't on 2 or 3, I think this is a weird legal area where Sega owns the Bayo IP but doesn't actually have the rights to 2 or 3. So, the answer is that Sega owns Bayonetta as an IP and owns Bayonetta 1, but Nintendo and Platinum Games share ownership of 2 and 3 and Sega is not part of that.
At any rate, if there's ever a falling out between these three companies, don't expect to see these games released ever again 😂
@FargusPelagius It’s not when it works out for Nintendo without releasing a single game on PC.
Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo is primarily a game company that benefits the most when people are buying their console along with their large lineup of exclusive software in droves. It doesn’t help when PC quickly devalues software while games like MK8D to this day are full price and people still buy by droves.
Exclusives give people further reason to buy a Switch just like people have little reason to get a Xbox these days. Sony only ported Horizon and soon an Uncharted game. The majority of their library is still Sony only.
@SwitchVogel yeah tbf i just checked my boxes and Sega is on Bayonetta 1 & 2, so some deal must have been cut between Nintendo and Sega as Bayonetta is Sega's. In law it would be Nintendo paid Sega for rights to publish and develop a game using their character, bit like Mario and sonic at the Olympics and Mario and Rabbids. Long live the triforce i guess (because Namco are in deep with Super Smash bros too ).
@Arawn93 Nintendo would set their own price on PC, that's the publishers right. Case in point, Call of Duty very rarely gets discounts. PC wouldn't devalue Nintendo IP at all, simply expand the amount of people with access to their software.
Edit: i have an xbox and play it more than my Switch, so they must be doing something right. Been gaming 30 odd years. Every gamer is different though.
Xbox allowed ori on switch, playstation allowed that baseball game by santa monica studio on xbox, xbox didnt break the deal on deathloop being a ps exclusive for awhile so bayonetta 3 could, maybe probably won't but a small chance could end up on xbsx and ps5 one day.
@FargusPelagius
It would devalue the Switch HW for one. Being on PC would come with certain expectations from average PC gamers on Steam that old Nintendo SW should be heavily discounted or no buy which the current Nintendo ecosystem in comparison buys games regardless since they don’t have heavy semi frequent Steam sales. You are also ignoring that Nintendo would then have to pay a hefty 30% cut to Valve when they could just keep their games in their own marketplace on top of pushing the Switch HW.
Cool. Plenty more people have less reason to play on Xbox when you have a PC that got practically everything from Xbox. Enough where it doesn’t make much to buy one since last Gen.
Can’t say the same for Switch or to a lesser extent Sony consoles since Sony giving PC like two games is a drop in the bucket
@Arawn93 devalue hadware with a unique selling point? Switch has already sold millions, any impact now is after Nintendo has already made a killing. Nintendo could happily release new hardware making games for that, and have a few second and third parties port some choice games across from previous generations.
i think the fact most Nintendo games would run reasonably on middling PC hardware (laptops, the majority of users etc) would more than make up the investment.
If they use Streaming and Nvidia Now, Nintendo wouldn't even need to port, simply have it run off a Switch based server/host.
Also your point of Nintendo having to pay Valve. Not if Valve, Epic or a storefront of Nintendo's choosing made a deal for exclusive sale of Nintendo IP. Nvidia did similar with Shield in China for a few Wii ports. Whilst Nintendo back track alot, someone in the company is clearly open to broadening coverage.
Some good points raised.
PS5 owners will get a similar game in gameplay called Project Eve anyway - and don't even mention the many exclusives it's having. Leave Nintendo with a chance too!
@larryisaman well it was leaked back early this year that Bayonetta 3 migh be coming to PC.

@Whitestrider i was leaked back early this year, that Bayonetta 3 might release on PC, also Shin Megami Tensei V is a timed exclusive on Switch later coming to PC.

Kideki Kamiya don't lie to us, the Geo Force leak show that Bayonetta 3 is coming to PC.

@Grumblevolcano so Bayonetta 3 is gonna be a timed exclusive on Switch?
@Giancarlothomaz I am pretty sure the list doesn't mean it will be coming to PC necessarily. Remember, Nintendo uses a Nvidia graphics card for their console so Bayonetta 3 might just show up on the list due to that reason.
Another reason here
"Nvidia went on to confirm the list was legitimate but said that the list included speculative titles — that is, titles that were not confirmed for PC, or even to be in development"
what this means here is that the list is in fact actually from Nvidia but the list has speculative titles. It doesn't mean Bayonetta 3 will be on PC. And as I said, this could be due to Nintendo using a Nvidia graphics card for their system and if that isn't the case then why is New Super Mario Bros and Mario + Rabbids leaked on the list?
New Super Mario Bros was released on the Nvidia Shield in China iirc. But what about Mario + Rabbids? Yes, Ubisoft fully developed the game but they are using Nintendo's own IP there so if they want to put Mario + Rabbids on PC, they would have to ask Nintendo for permission. And we all know Nintendo's attitude towards PC.
@Giancarlothomaz its exclusive as long as Nintendo wants it to be exclusive
