Update [Thu 8th Jul, 2021 00:30 BST]: Toymaker Hasbro has now officially confirmed the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Monopoly set. Pre-orders are available now for $24.99 and it arrives this August in the US.
Here is what's included along with a description of the customised gameplay: 4 character tokens, 4 Skill cards, 35 Decoration cards, 14 Chance cards, 14 Nook Miles cards, 160 Resource chips, 40 Five-Bell coins, 54 Bell coins, 40 player markers, a numbered die, a Nook's Cranny die, a label sheet, and game rules.
"In this Animal Crossing Edition Monopoly Game, kids and adults can enjoy island life and immerse themselves in the colorful and creative world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. After your first trip around the board, you choose a Skill card with an ability you can use throughout the game. Moving around the board with custom tokens inspired by the video game, you complete island tasks and meet other characters. Instead of buying properties and paying rent, you collect bugs, fish, fossils, and fruit. You can also stop at Nook's Cranny and cash in Bells to buy decorations. These decorations are worth Nook Miles, and the player with the most Nook Miles wins the game"
Original article [Tue 6th Jul, 2021 04:15 BST]: It seems like there's a monopoly game for just about every franchise nowadays, but one theme we haven't seen yet is Animal Crossing. Or so we thought...
Over on the Animal Crossing subreddit, user calysunflower has been posting photos of Animal Crossing: New Horizons Monopoly. If this is the real deal, we must admit, it looks a bit sad - you get four avatars, tokens, and a lot of cardboard. Some villagers would have been nice.
There's no official announcement from Hasbro just yet, but a few online retailers have started to list the product - which suggests we'll be hearing more soon. What do you think of this yourself? Leave a comment down below.

I kind of like these unique takes on Monopoly that add something to make the game more interesting. Me and my AC friends are gonna get a kick out of this.
It looks great but there is one thing that is making me think its fake. Its the pawns, they looks to good!
@Snatcher
Yeah these look 10 times better than the cardboard tokens for Space Jam 2 Monopoly, based on a big budget Hollywood movie.
Maybe they expect this to be an evergreen version of Monopoly, so they're making it higher quality than some of the other tie-ins.
@Snatcher Eh, they don't look that great. Look more like fan-made figures. Something about the paint job just rubs me the wrong way, and same can be said about the models themselves.
Anyways, this hurts to see, since this proves Animal Crossing is just climbing through the mainstream audience, and New Horizons is the face of the series now. I've completely lost hope in this franchise ever really being good again, due to how well New Horizons itself has sold.
@VoidofLight Well other then the paint job, I think its a cut above the rest.
Hopefully being saved to announce in a bigger AC announcement, with a hopefully-very-big NH update?
@Snatcher I think it's mostly just the eyes that really throw me off on this. The eyes kind of make it look like someone made clay figures and painted them.
Now update the game. Has less content than New Leaf and even the GCN game to a degree.
@PickledKong64 It would also be great if.. you know, they added a proper progression system, and things to spend bells on that's not just furniture.
I work the night shift at Walmart and we just got these in. I can confirm that we just got these in
Why does two of the characters have the same colored base?
You know, an Animal Crossing Monopoly could have an advantage of a clear end point: whoever pays back their Nook debt first wins.
Regular monopoly has that issue where people play it last man standing, which is tiresome and unfun.
Nintendo puts in more effort for a Animal Crossing Monopoly boardgames and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp than actually updating New Horizons with new content
Looks fake to me. 🤷🏻♂️
Bases have slightly bevelled edge like they have been printed on a resin home printer.
@Snatcher Nah, the quality of the little Mario Kart Monopoly ones are just as good.
They appear to give half-a-munkies when it comes to Nintendo properties.
Monopoly is the most boring game on earth. Special editions don't help. Make a Catan Animal Crossing edition or something.
@sportvater I used to believe that, but the Mario and Mario Kart editions are surprisingly fun.
It would be cooler to have playable board games or mini-games inside ACNH to play online with friends. Nobody's coming over for in-person Monopoly any time soon.
This is an awesome idea and I would probably pick it up, I love Monopoly variations and I have about 10 different versions, as well as an old version of the game from the 30s...
...But not in this state. A Pale Chub as Mayfair? Two properties featuring the Tiger Butterfly? This is clearly a prototype image...
edit: actually I see the same 4 'properties' on each side of the board. Why choose those images though?
@nib0 RIP Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival for Wii U.
Tom & Isabelle are Boardwalk & Park Place right?
I think monopoly is the original collab king of games, it was certainly here before computer games
People saying it's fake but yet many including me have already found it at Walmart. Walmart in Belleville MI had it in stock early. I bought one already. Rings up as $24.99. UPC 9516613659. I was able to purchase and buy early. Went back later to pick up another one for a friend and they were gone. Asked an employee who went back and found the box in the backroom and it had a street date of sometime in August 2021. They accidently broke street date. Oops.
Edit: here is a pic of my copy. My username on Nintendo Life is above it. https://ibb.co/0qKJJVb
Long story short don't be so quick to call fake when you have no proof.
And its real, Well I'm down for it.
Instead of paying $400 to buy Boardwalk, you have to spend the first hour of the game drawing Chance cards to find the recipe to craft Boardwalk. No thanks.
@VoidofLight
The future of Animal Crossing is become like The Sims style.
It will not return into old style anymore.
This model will be kept forever and i like the new Animal Crossing model.
@Anti-Matter So, the future of Animal Crossing is to literally become a delusional sims spin-off that you concocted in your head, while alienating actual fans of the series? Nice.
An Animal Crossing: New Horizons board game from Hasbro Monopoly!!!! Cool Im going to purchase this board game for my collection of monopoly video game based editions.
Well this monopoly seem more entertaining than the actual game itself
@VoidofLight
Don't you happy if next Animal Crossing all the villagers including your character can interact with every objects properly and have a lot of social interactions like The Sims / My Sims ?
I will be happier if next Animal Crossing turn into 3D Free roaming world with bigger size island. We don't need the old style Animal Crossing that emphasizing on feeling being lonely and see your villagers leaving you without acknowledge for not playing the game frequently. Those ideas will not selling on this era. It's already over now.
@Daz1380 oof, it's confirmed now.
I always like Monopoly. But no one is ever willing to finish a game. People get one bad turn and rage quit.
@Anti-Matter No, I wouldn't be happy if animal crossing became what you said. What you want isn't Animal Crossing. It's an entirely different game with an animal crossing skin. I don't want the sims. I want Animal Crossing.
And yes, I actually do like the villagers moving out at random, since it's not a hostage situation. It actually makes me attached to my villagers, and enjoy them more than anything. It was satisfying for a character I hated to move into my village, and then eventually getting excited when they moved out. It was sad when the villagers I did like left, but that's just life in general, and what gives the series it's charm.
You don't like animal crossing, and that's fine since it's not a series for everyone, but please stop pushing your views onto others like this. Other people enjoy the game for other reasons. You have the sims, so go play that if you want a game like the sims.
Crazy how Animal Crossing went from a relatively niche Nintendo IP to being one of the premiere IPs alongside Mario, Zelda, and Kirby. AC:NH has sold more than the entirety of the Metroid franchise which is crazy to think about.
I certainly hope they add more to the actual game though or update how people visiting work. I found it hard to motivate myself to decorate my island once terraforming was unlocked since no one would see it and relocating the island residents is a painfully slow process, with not being able to move the town hall being a major kicker. More things to spend Bells on after completing the house (I may have gamed the turnip market for it) and having more thing to do with others on the island would turn it into an ace game. Don’t know why I’m typing this all out anymore I just wanted to say it.
@VoidofLight
I do like the new Animal Crossing games (ACNL, ACNH). I played those games a lot.
I do like those games when building sim got expanded and less social gimmicks.
But looking at Nintendo's decision, it seems they will not consider old style Animal Crossing anymore whether you dislike the ideas of more building sim on newer Animal Crossing games. Thanks to Amiibo card function on ACNL and ACNH, i can choose my favorite villagers easily and get rid the unwanted villagers in second like they have never been on my island.
@Anti-Matter Yeah, the games aren't made for the fans of the series anymore, and are made to chase after a crowd of people who won't be buying the next one.
Honestly, New Leaf struct a perfect balance for both sides of the playerbase, but then New Horizons just forsake half of the playerbase.
I never bother with the Amiibo Cards, since it feels like cheating in a way, and I don't like how villagers have to be found on an island before they can move in. I also don't like how the villagers have to ask you to move out, as if it's a hostage situation instead of a community where the characters get to do what they want.
@VoidofLight
Actually, the villagers moving out by asking permit was the ultimate option you can decide. It will please the casual players to keep the villagers forever while for veteran, if you don't like with certain villagers you can kick them out directly without waiting them moving out by themself. It was an option to make the game easier for new comers and casual players so they can decide which villagers stay and which villagers should leave. The casual players will be pissed off if you still insist villagers moving by themself without any ability to keep them forever. By their logical thinking, they don't want to lose something precious after getting them so hard. It's not something charming for them. I believe they will not playing Animal Crossing anymore if the old style still exist.
@Anti-Matter Personally, I don't feel any real attachment for my villagers anymore. Knowing that they're stuck on my island unless I evict them myself.. just makes me dislike them if anything. It no longer makes me wish to talk with them, or do anything for them, since there's no point in the end.
In the older games, there was more of a point, since if you checked in with villagers, you could stop the ones you liked from moving, and they'd still ask to move, but could still move out on their own. It was a better system, since more people could feel attachment towards their characters.
I've always been bothered by special editions that try to incorporate something unique, but then they still have the jail and free parking spaces. Takes me right out of it.
Why make it Animal Crossing: New Horizons Monopoly. Why not just make it Animal Crossing Monopoly?
@VoidofLight
I don’t really know where you’re getting this idea that Animal Crossing fans aren’t happy with New Horizons, it sold gangbusters and the only thing I see players upset about is that they aren’t doing more with the updates (wanting more of what we got is a good sign). I would agree with you on New Horizons attracting a ton of new players to the series and longtime fans not caring for the game if the numbers added up, but New Leaf was one of the bestselling 3DS games so it isn’t like the series wasn’t mainstream before New Horizons. I do wish the villagers had a bit more to say, but honestly being able to put furniture outside of your house finally is such a huge upgrade that I just cannot go back. I don’t understand what you’re asking for from the old games that Horizons doesn’t have that makes such a big difference gameplay-wise. Also, being mad about a series you love getting a Monopoly board is kind of weird. Far better than that crap Amiibo Festival game we got thanks to the Welcome Amiibo update on New Leaf.
@VoidofLight who made you the ultimate authority on animal crossing? it's not others imposing their views onto your game it's you imposing yours on theirs, give it a rest stop being pedantic and just play the old ones if you hate the current one so much
@Phostachio I'd suggest looking at social media, comment threads here, and youtube, since people do think New Horizons is the weakest game in the series. Sales do not equate to game quality, and sales do not equate to someone liking the game or not. Star Wars Battlefront II sold extremely well, despite the lootbox issue and being a bad game in general. Yes, a part of the reason why a lot of people are upset is due to the updates, but that's not the only reason. New Horizons lacks a proper progression system, and lacks many things in which the other entries had in the past.
@DJRummel I'm not the authority on the series, but the person in this conversation wants animal crossing to no longer be anything like Animal Crossing. Also, yeah I could play the older games, but when the real time clocks run out, they no longer will hold any value to them. It's also disappointing that this is the direction the series is heading, given that it's alienating half it's fanbase.
@PickledKong64,
Do you have to complain about the content on New Horizons on every related thread, time to just forget or sell the game if it does not suit your needs, all this can't be doing you any good.
Glad they have come out and confirmed this, it looks pretty awesome and will be buying day one.
@Phostachio,
The majority of fans are not unhappy, it's a delusion made by the core minorities who play video games far too much, and are always very difficult to please, and want to have their own negative views supported in some way.
Most of the videos on YouTube get very few views in the general scheme of things, and even on the comments there are people that agree and disagree on what is in effect very few comments in the first place, as for looking on comment sections on gaming sites it's again a very niche group of people, and let's be honest people are always far more vocal when they complain, Social media is pretty much an echo chamber and again a tiny percentage of the millions of happy customers that have bought this game.
The core minorities just can't take it that people may actually enjoy a game, that they personally do not.
The way I look at it is the game has sold around 32 million copies, so if a huge percentage of these people were up in arms about this game, or thought it had no content etc, I would expect to see tonnes of copies of the game being sold cheaply on E-bay etc, just like you can buy the latest call of duty games pretty cheap not long after release, of course there are not loads of copies being sold and few that are cost pretty much retail.
@VoidofLight,
Who says sales do not equate to quality?, you or someone else, a mysterious set of rule makers.
This again is a subjective opinion being stated as fact, the game has different content, and a different progression system, your statement to the contrary is your own personal take on the game, based on your own dislike for it.
Also trying to suggest their is a massive uproar towards all this is also without and evidence or facts, and what amounts to the smallest percentage of the games owners complaining on social media, You Tube and comment sections/video game forums, is hardly supporting your argument, as again all of this is just subjective opinions, from a very small group of people.
@Anti-Matter,
I think the villagers are awesome in this game, and as you said they just do not getup and leave without giving you an option to ask them to stay, very important when you do not want to lose your favorites.
People keep on stating the villagers do not do anything, but after playing New Leaf and every other Animal crossing title, and those villagers repeating the same things over and over after around 300 hours or so of play, these ones say new dialogue on a regular basis 1250 hours int the game, you just have to speak to them beyond the first line of regular recycled phrases, to get to all manner of new conversation subjects, this impresses me very much.
@johnvboy
I didn't really pay attention with the dialogues on ACNL and ACNH, as long they stay forever on my island they can say whatever they want and i just skip the dialogues quickly. 😅
@Phostachio
Actually i do enjoy Amiibo Festival Wii U as i have some Amiibo figurines to play. I oftenly used Kicks as playable character.
@Anti-Matter,
Shame, because they do say new things every day, it's a great addition to the new game, i try and speak to them all at least four times a day.
@johnvboy
Usually i talked to my villagers once or two times, just to say hi or if they suddenly told me there was another villager got sick or visitor came to my island, i will go after them. But mostly, i did Haunt gesture in front of any villagers until they did Haunt gesture as feedback. 😆
Only Kicks and some Cranky villagers didn't react though.
They looked even more silly when i scared them while they are fishing near water. They will popped up their eyes and dark aura came from their body while fishing. 😆
@Anti-Matter,
You and your haunt gesture, those poor villagers must have been scared stiff.
@johnvboy
Battlefront II sold half as much as the first Battlefront, so the idea that it's sales weren't impacted by the reviews or lootbox controversy isn't accurate at all.
@westman98,
Not sure what that means to the Animal crossing debate, are you somehow suggesting that a huge percentage of the 32 million purchasers are not happy, so next time round it will not sell as well?
The success of the next entry will pretty much depend on the sales of the console it's released on, that being this game is not released on a yearly basis, and to be honest I am not sure I even mentioned Battlefront at all, I simply said people were stating some sort of mass discontent with the latest Animal crossing game, without even a shred of evidence.
@VoidofLight
Battlefront 2 actually IS a fun game with a dedicated fan base, all of its criticism was directed towards the crappy loot box system. Also, what on earth are you talking about when you say that Animal Crossing New Horizons doesn’t have any real progression system like past games? I’ve played hundreds of hours of New Leaf and I can’t think of a single progression system it has that Horizons doesn’t, please elaborate. Horizons actually has Nook Miles and an achievement system, so if anything it has more progression than any other game in the series. Like @johnvboy here said, your bias is showing and you’re pointing to a minority group of complainers on the internet to feed it. The game sold well (which does mean that people like a game, hate to burst your bubble), and it’s a critical darling with game reviewers.
Also, side tangent: people who play a game for hundreds of hours and then complain that there’s not enough content are hilarious to me. Maybe if you had a life games would last longer for you.

@PickledKong64
I'm very content with ACNH.
The game has new features just like I want, keep the villagers forever and they will never leave without my permission.
@PickledKong64,
Why is it so difficult to realize that not everybody feels the same, by all means keep ranting, and if anything it's you that's crying than Nintendo did not cater for all your own personal whims.
Removed - flaming/arguing; user is banned
@PickledKong64,
So because I do not agree with you I am a man child, sounds reasonable, the game has different content that you do not personally like, so what do you want me to do, give you a hug or something.
Removed - flaming/arguing; user is banned
@PickledKong64,
Replied to you not attacked, you seem to have an issue with the difference, also disagreeing is also not a personal attack, you seem to like name calling so good luck with that, and Nintendo adding all that content you are missing out on.
@johnvboy
Reread my comment, I was responding to @VoidofLight and agreeing with you.
@Phostachio,
Speed reading will be the death of me, sorry for that.
@johnvboy
It’s all good!
Is it coming to the uk?
@HotGoomba if that’s the case, I won’t be buying if the quality is that bad.
@Daz1380 Ok that's fair. But you haven't seen low quality until you've seen Space Jam's Monopoly set.
Also when have game boards had good quality on figurines?
