What year is it? Between Telling Lies, Her Story, Erica, Bandersnatch, The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, The Bunker, and that remake of Night Trap, you might be wondering whether FMV games are making a comeback, or you've just been in a coma for 25 years.
Well, we can't fully discount the coma theory, but FMV-focused studio Wales Interactive (developer of The Bunker and publisher of The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker) has two new FMV games on the horizon, and we're pretty sure they're real.
Night Book, due in July 2021, is about a pregnant woman who accidentally summons a demon into her home, and has to decide who she'll sacrifice in order to save both her life and that of her unborn baby. Night Book was entirely filmed during lockdown, as a remote shoot, and features multiple endings.
Deathtrap Dungeon: The Golden Room is based on the book by Ian Livingstone, the co-founder of Games Workshop and the choose-your-own-adventure Fighting Fantasy series. The game will come to Switch in 2022.
Do you long for the Night Trap days? Let us know if you'll be picking up these two games in the comments.

Deathtrap Dungeon! Love that book but wow that looks incredibly pants.
Doesn't 428: Shibuya Scrumble and Death Come True are FMV games?
@Vyacheslav333 Nah I wouldn’t count 428. 428 is a live action visual novel so doesn’t feature cutscenes, just still images. FMV implies video. Still, it’s an absolute gem.
@nessisonett Oh, okay. Sad, that 428 is unavaible on Switch. Back in the past, where 428 was a Wii exclusive... Good ol' days...
I do have a soft spot for FMV games. Deathtrap Dungeon could be very fun if there's lots of ways to die in it, and your choices matter. Night Book probably isn't my sort of thing though.
As long as they are DVD or Blu-ray quality and had accurate QTE sequences then I'm okay with it.
Lol played the old Game yesterday... with Elvis... Don't blame me
@Vyacheslav333 Well it’s got a much bigger audience than it had exclusive on Wii which is great. It deserves a Switch port though.
@nessisonett Yeah, I agree with you.
What happened to the rumoured pornhub app?
@Ghost_of_Hasashi : DVD quality? The 60fps/UHD police will be all over you for that kind of profanity. (DVD resolution is a paltry 720x480 for NTSC and 720x576 for PAL)
Jokes aside though, I strongly doubt that these games will be quite at the level of a standard Blu-ray, though most won't know the difference. I bought Late Shift on PC (the file size is more or less the same as the Switch version, being only 7GB, which leads me to believe that the A/V quality is identical) and while it looks good, they have obviously compressed the footage in order to make it more palatable for console players given how little "gameplay" there is to be had relative to the size of the game. A commercial Blu-ray with the same amount of footage would have required a 50GB disc.
If the two games were to have a crossover episode, would we call it Night Trap?
Forget all these, we've got Plumbers Don't Wear Ties announced for Switch! \(^o^)//
I would love to see Dracula Unleashed and Tomcat Alley released on Switch. I feel that the time is right to open the floodgates. Throw Sewer Shark in there too!
@nhSnork We do?!
Edit: Oh, thank you for informing me. Truly. :’D
I'm guessing FMV means full motion video.
@WoomyNNYes Nah, it stands for Flabby Mature Vicar
@WoomyNNYes Forgot My Viagra
@nessisonett @tseliot
You rascals<3 lol.
Forgetting Viagra is the worst thing that can happen!😠
I'm always the last person to know abbreviations for games & genres. It's a skill of mine.
FMV? Finally some games that are more your average video game reviewer’s speed. 😜
