Publisher Big Sugar and developer Glowfish Interactive have announced a brand new action-adventure game, Trifox, which will be launching on Switch and other platforms in 2022.
The game has players taking on the role of the titular Trifox, setting out on an adventure to track down mysterious looters who attacked his home and stole his TV remote. We're guessing that TV remote's pretty important to him, because we'd probably just give in, leave a disgruntled tweet and buy a new one. That wouldn't make for an interesting game though, we suppose.
It's been inspired by 3D platforming greats and makes use of "magic, might, and marvellous gadgets." Here's a feature list and some tasty screenshots:
- Three different classes: Wield a giant hammer as a Warrior! Master magic and mystery as a Mage! Use a backpack full of gadgets as an Engineer!
- Mix-and-match styles: Customise your Trifox by combining different class-based abilities! Want to cast spells and fire a Gatling Gun? No problem!
- 30 abilities to unlock: Collect and spend coins to gain new skills, such as Spike Slam, Shield Bubble, Guided Missile, and many more!
- Four worlds to beat: Fight hordes of enemies, traverse platforming pitfalls, overcome environmental puzzles, and battle big angry bosses!
- A modern retro adventure: A new and fresh experience designed to evoke the spirit of classic 3D platformers!
Trifox is Glowfish Interactive's debut title, but it's already on the radar of gaming fans in the studio's home country of Belgium, where it was nominated as 'Most Anticipated Game' at the Belgian Game Awards.
Is it on your radar too? Will you be keeping an eye out for more details on this one over the coming months? Tell us below.

That looks kinda cool, ngl
It doesn't look bad at all.
Looks cool! But there’s basically 0 platforming in the trailer.
I dont see how this evokes old 3D platformers.
Looks kinda bland to be honest.
I'm not feeling this one to be honest, foxes are great but this doesn't really have an appealing take on them.
"evoking classic 3D Platformers"
There's a reason why that genre died years ago.
I don’t see the platforming, but this looks awesome
Looks pretty cool.
looks good. it all depends on game play. if it is good then this could definitely be a winner.
Hmm... Why do the graphics look so basic? This looks like what you get when they do an HD upgrade (higher resolution but absolutely nothing else; Legend of Kay for example) of a PS2 or GameCube game.
This looks like a lot of fun.
Looks pretty cool. Will be interested to see how this turns out.
@TheFox The reason Trifox looks this way is probably because it's from a new studio, so the developers probably wanted to reduce the development time and save money by keeping the graphical quality lower.
Small studio, so looks like utilizing basic game engine assets unfortunately. Also unfortunate that it just looks like a generic top-down ARPG aside from the Fox flavoring. Why spend money on this when you can buy a game like Hades, unless you're really desperate for the Fox furry aesthetic.
A little blunt to point out, but just because Indie studios can form and create their own little flavor of the same games, doesn't mean they should...
Doesn't really seem reminiscent of classic 3D platformers at all, but still looks pretty fun nonetheless!
Hot tip to these budding developers (or marketers): a top-down game is in no way shape or form similar to a "classic 3D platformer", and never can be.
Perhaps your game is good. But if you're setting people up to expect something resembling Mario 64 and you give them something resembling Lego Star Wars then you've lost the plot somewhere.
Don't see how it's inspired by 3d platformers when it's from a top down perspective especially when it makes the platforming worse due to the camera pointing up and you can't properly judge distance...
Here comes another Balan
@DK-Fan What do you call this era of A Hat in Time, Yooka-Laylee, Super Mario Odyssey, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Crash 4, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Clive n' Wrench, Banjo and Kazooie in Smash, two successful Ty the Tasmanian Tiger kickstarters, Sonic Colors Ultimate, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Astro's Playroom, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure? If you ask me, the genre is alive and well. It definitely fell into obscurity for a while, but I think we're in a new golden age.
But like most of the comments are saying, none of that comes across in the trailer for this game. I saw maybe 2 seconds of platforming and one mine cart level that was just shooting, but the rest of it looked like what I imagine Diablo or something plays like.
