Aw darn no Republic Commando
Ah well, May the 4th be with you
Edit: Also Nlife you should review Jedi Knight 2 so people can see whether or not they should grab it on the sale
How is star wars Pinball? Was thinking of picking this up...
@Bizzyb Fantastic. Great pinball and really cool presentation. Lots of content. They did a great job with it.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The deals sound like: “It’s a trap!”
@Bizzyb I just got it on Steam and... it's surprisingly awesome. I wrote this game off until I started reading reviews about it. I mean, not every pinball table is great, but I've been playing The Force Awaken tables and it ate up a decent chunk of my weekend. If you like pinball, it's worth checking out.
@Bizzyb Zen Studios makes great pinball games in general.
@FroZtedFlakerZz I was hoping for that one. I'm not getting it until it goes on sale. But I do plan to.
Is Racer worth getting in 2021? (never played it). The review on NL was not that good, but maybe at that price it could get an extra point?
I think the only Star Wars game I really wanna check out is kotor. That would be cool to have on Switch
No thanks, Disney.
Be good if these games were actually.... good. Sadly only a star wars fan can love these games..
@echoplex I picked it up in the last Sale & I’m actually enjoying it. It plays really well undocked too & for a 22 year old game, I’m enjoying it as much as I did when I had it on the N64 & PC.
It’s not amazing and you can tell it was an N64 Title, I won’t lie, but at £6.14, it’s a really good price, for an enjoyable piece of nostalgia.
@Krambo42 @Bizzyb
Pinball videogames suck when they put an entire realistic-looking table on screen at once. The screen is cluttered and gives you a tilted perspective that feels like a stupid compromise. It's like playing 22-man soccer on an 11-man field. Star Wars Pinball does move the camera up and down, but that perspective isn't ideal - the camera should be top-down, as in A Link to the Past. The way to put an entire table on screen at once is to tailor-make the table for a videogame experience, such as Midnight Magic on the Atari 2600. That's a decent compromise, and the camera perspective is the best possible.
Compare the mediocre Star Wars Pinball to Devil's Crush and Alien Crush on the TurboGrafx-16; the latter two show you half the table at a time, but do a great job of transitioning. You actually have a good, straight-on view of what's happening in those games.
But the very best pinball videogame by far is Metroid Pinball for the DS. You have the entire pinball table visible at once, but with no compromise, as the DS and 3DS have two screens, one on top of the other. It puzzles me that only one developer had the ingenious idea to make a pinball game for the DS, and that no one made one for the 3DS. If you play Metroid Pinball on a 3DS XL, you'll agree that it's the best pinball experience in videogames.
@echoplex
Definitely it’s a great game. It’s a port of the PC game with some minor upgrades.
I notice that picture doesn't include a single character from the sequels. I Would say NB4 Disney ruined star wars but it looks like i was too late.
Whatever I've been there since the highest and lowest points and i still don't hate any of it. Star wars will always be a part of me. It got crazy and really stupid sometimes way before Disney but i Wouldn't have it any other way! May the 4th be with you!
Already had "Pinball". Picked up "Racer" and "Outcast". I realize the Switch version of "Outcast" has problems, but GOG's "Outcast" for PC isn't playable on Windows 10, so...it's better than nothing.
I hope they keep bring more of the classics, but some new Star Wars would be nice.
Still waiting to hear more on that Star Wars Hunters game too.
@Bizzyb it’s great has loads of content I picked it up physical for around the same price as it is on sale on the eshop but that’s in the UK not sure about US though
@Bizzyb if u like pinball and Star Wars, it’s awesome! I absolutely recommend. I already have most of the content on other systems, so it is not worth it for me. I have at least a hundred hours on these games...
I don't give money to Disney. They don't deserve my money. They ruined Star Wars.
Finally grabbed Episode I Racer and Jedi Academy. Hope they keep bringing Star Wars games to this system.
@Fandabidozi @Sonofstaypuft Thank you!
@echoplex I snapped it up when it came out in Switch and have played through it twice but I have a lot of nostalgia with it so it felt just as good as it did when it originally came out. If you've never played it then of course you won't have that so it may not be as good for you so I wouldn't pay full price but if you're in to Star Wars and like pod racers then it's good for the sale price.
NANOO NANOO!
Use the Force Harry - Gandalf
@PoliticallyIncorrect
Says the guy who probably never heard of Jar Jar or even before that the two Ewok movies.
@Zeldafan79 Says the guy that loves identity politics in his entertainment. Sorry, I watch movies to be entertained, not to have someone's beliefs pushed on me.
So much for my prediction of Republic Commando getting discounted today. I was really betting on that it would be.
@Ganner Especially when Bad Batch premiered today, I would have thought there'd be a tie in.
@Aerona KOTR would be awesome on the Switch. Almost bought it on the Steam sale earlier since I thought it was old enough to run on my potato laptop but apparently it has issues on Windows 10 according to the reviews.
@PoliticallyIncorrect I think out of the Disney releases the Solo movie and Rise of the Skywalker were the low points for me. Mando was good, too, and overall I think the Disney releases are livelier than the prequels, although those films are at least interesting as being so thoroughly George Lucas (not always a good thing, but interesting!)
@path4smash Had the exact same experience. Some people said it ran fine for them, but I didn't feel like rolling the dice
@Bizzyb
I like Star Wars Pinball quite a bit! I play lots of the Pinball FX games, and this collection of video pins is their typically high quality.
I bought the collection on a physical cart, played fairly regularly for the first month or so after purchased, but not much in the 1.5yrs or so since. But really, I don't know how many times I wished I could just dip in and play a few rounds! Having to get up and actually PLUG IN THE CARTRIDGE was usually too much of an obstacle to do so. Truly pathetic, I know... ;(
The quantity and variety of tables on offer in the set is really satisfying overall. I think the ROGUE ONE table got most of my play time, maybe because I was so moved by that movie, but really if you like Star Wars or pinball (or especially BOTH), I am confident the collection will be fun for you!
@echoplex The pod racer game is pretty good I think. It's better than all the recent F-Zero clones that have come out in my opinion.
Of course, I still want a new F-zero!
These are not the games you are looking for…
@PoliticallyIncorrect
Disney owns just about everything so good luck with your boycott. Hope you don’t watch ESPN, HULU, abc, Freeform, The Simpsons, Aliens, Marvel, Indiana Jones, National Geographic...
I know every company that Disney owns. I haven't had cable for almost 30 years now. I watch movies. I wouldn't watch sports if my life depended on it.
@KnightsTemplar Jedi Knight 2 and Academy got good reviews back in the day and I played Academy online a lot.
Emphasis on "back in the day".
Well this explains the Star Wars marathon on TBS that I stumbled across earlier.
@Bizzyb Very good! However, if you're into tournaments, Switch is isolated from all other platforms. The new Pinball FX (aka FX4) that's releasing later this year will come to Switch, will have Star Wars, but will very likely be in a new app because it uses a new engine with new physics. We also don't have a release date, so my guess is the November/December, assuming they stay true to this year for release.
Still, for $18, you're getting 19 quality tables and a nice campaign. Not much of a loss if you end up double-dipping by the end of the year, imo.
The pinball game looks good but price a bit steep for my liking... i was hoping they would announce knights of the old republic for switch today , I still think that would be perfect on switch
I picked up Racer. Pinball is still to expensive, so I'll wait for 90% discount on that, not 50%. I was unsure of the Jedi Academy games, so passed on those. The first one seems to be an online game and that worries me whether there's even enough players around to form a team. I might look at the second one in the future.
@HalBailman You'll be waiting an eternity. The lowest that individual packs on Steam go is 75% off and that applies to only certain bundles.
@Kilroy I'd look at individual games first, and it would be on Switch, not Steam. Speaking of Steam and packs, I might already have one or two of those games anyway. If Pinball only goes as far as 75% off, perhaps that will be enough. My main concern is I played a Star Wars pinball demo (I think on PS4) and didn't like it at all, hence, I'd want 90% off. Not sure if it's the same game.
Researching the Jedi Knight games, I didn't realise Jedi Academy was after Jedi Outcast and both are part of a broader series. I thought Outcast was the sequel to Academy by virtue of the prefixes Jedi Knight and Jedi Knight II, respectively. So much to learn!
@konbinilife @ilh alright I might get it then! thanks!
@HalBailman Not sure about what demo you played, but Switch has all 19 tables available (minus the two brand new ones just released for VR). The designs all vary widely enough, but if you're a general fan of fantasy pinball that nails the fine line between realism and fantasy, it shouldn't take much before you know whether you enjoy them. Also, you can play in portrait mode on Switch, so if you don't mind the smaller screen playing in handheld, you can play with a much better and more realistic camera angle.
As for whether it's the same game, Zen Studios is the only dev making Star Wars pinball games.
@Manly Yeah, the only way a company that massive could fail is probably if there's some huge scandal and felonies get involved. Even then...
