Lucasfilm Games will now be the "official identity" of all Star Wars video game releases from Lucasfilm moving forward.
Lucasfilm's legacy in the video game industry obviously stretches back decades. With Star Wars entering a "new and unprecedented phase of creativity", Lucasfilm Games will be developed in collaboration with some of the "finest" studios around the world.
To mark this occasion, Lucasfilm Games has launched new social channels on Twitter (@LucasfilmGames) and Facebook (@LucasfilmGames) to help deliver breaking news and more to fans.
Apart from the logo - which will appear in all Star Wars games from now on, it's also prepared a special sizzle reel (above), to celebrate the recent history of games from Lucasfilm.
Are you looking forward to the future of Star Wars under Lucasfilm Games? Leave a comment below.

No interest in new Canon SW games. Sad, I wish they had the resources like this back in the day. To make games for the stories I grew up with.
@Heavyarms55 Fallen Order is absolutely superb, you’re definitely missing out there.
I've heard that fallen order and BattlefRont 2 story mode are both fun and really cool, but I only have a Switch
I was kind of hoping when I read "history of games from Lucasfilm" for something a bit more exciting than a few collaborations and some of EA's Star Wars games, like as if there weren't any Star Wars games from before 2015.
This was lucasfilm studios itself doing these, that was the focus but yeah there definitely have been more starwars games
I give it a week before Disney kills it again.
@Toy_Link Oops, I meant its more "recent" history.
@FroZtedFlakerZz
Lucasarts did make plenty of games before it was shutdown, but I'm guessing this is meant to be the post-Disney buyout Star Wars games.
@Liam_Doolan
Ah, that makes sense.
I was there when LucasFilm games started out and didn't rely on Star Wars; Rescue On Fractalus, The Eidolon, BallBlazers, the Monkey Island series, Maniac Mansion and the other SCUMM adventures etc. etc. etc. All awesome games BITD that really pushed the boundaries.
Not that this company has anything to do with those games though. It's like Atari - the name still exists but the designers, creators, coders, artists and co are looooooooong gone.
@zitpig You're talking LucasArts, not LucasFilms. Two different companies.
Disney needs to encourage EA to bring the PC ports of KotOR I & II over to the Switch. That's the only portion of SW I care to revisit these days.
Thats cool about time, On one hand EA sucks bc of there greed, but I never played a game under Lucasfilm so.
Let me know when something beyond Lego Skywalker Saga comes out for Switch, otherwise I'm probably going to miss all of them.
Hopefully this means we'll get games developed by studios other than EA. Also, I hope we get more new games for Switch as I don't have a Xbox, PlayStation, or a high end PC to run them. Looking forward to Skywalker Saga!
Hey, if it means more Star Wars games on Switch, they can call themselves whatever they want.
@nessisonett yeah, Fallen Order is amazing. I played all the "story" games as a kid, and it was fun initially, but then you just got mad at all the stuff they added or left out... then just went and watched the movies again.
@Heavyarms55 You're legit missing out if you haven't played Jedi Fallen Order and Star Wars Squadrons
@link3710
They were Lucasfilm Games then changed name to LucasArts in the 90s now they're back to the original name.
@daebiya Honestly JFO's story I hold in higher regard than a lot of Star Wars movies. It actually got me pumped for Star Wars again after how depressing it felt to talk about the franchise given the state of the fandom after the sequels
@link3710 They are the same company - LucasArts was renamed LucasFilm Games in 1990.
I would LOVE a new Maniac Mansion game.
So, does this mean their exclusivity deal with EA is no longer in effect? Or does it just mean that Disney's end of the deal has a different name now?
@FullMetalWesker Nah LucasFilm Games is basically a branding label on all their Star Wars games going forward now
Like how new Marvel games have the Marvel logo in the game's logos nowadays and always mention them in the title like Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
@eaglebob345 hard to blame them when LucasArts were an broken mess.
Anyone else wish that Disney hadn't bought out Star Wars?
I'm not even a hardcore fan but it just sickens me how Lucas was initially kicked to the curb once the deal was done.
It’s how they should have handled Star Wars games from the beginning, instead of the EA exclusivity deal. Hopefully this means we’ll see more Star Wars games, new and classic, on the Switch.
But ultimately I’m so glad LucasFilms is turning Star Wars around, thank goodness for people like Faveau and Filoni.
I can't be alone in thinking this is a terrible name. "Lucasfilm Games"? Lucasarts was fine, Lucasgames would also be fine. Why do you need Lucasfilm as part of the name for making things that are literally not films? This would be like if the MCU was called the MCCU the Marvel Comic Cinematic Universe.
@Elvie Nobody forced Lucas to sell StarWars. It was his decision to sell the franchise to Disney. He got his money so I don’t feel bad for him.
@kkslider5552000 @link3710
Actually they were called Lucasfilm Games from 1982–1990, before changing to LucasArts.
@Guest88
If only you knew the full story.
@TheFrenchiestFry - Well that's a shame. Was kinda hoping this might lead to more Star Wars Games from a variety of developers like the old days, but I guess that was too much to ask.
@Elvie - Some old Star Wars fans have been saying this since the current canon started, but personally I'm still glad it happened; it means Star Wars can be fresh again, with the bonus of not having to deal with the messy tangled web that was the old EU. I just wish they pumped out more games like Jedi: Fallen Order and Squadrons.
I don't get it - doesn't EA make star wars games now?
@Guest88 But Iger intentionally misled Lucas to believe that he would have considerable creative direction for the franchise moving forward. Instead, he just became another consultant for Disney.
Also, Lucas didn't even sell his company for monetary gain since he donated almost all of the money he obtained from the deal.
@Elvie that’s on George, not Iger. Nobody promised him anything.
@locky-mavo https://kotaku.com/how-lucasarts-fell-apart-1401731043
Looks like the management was a mess.
@Magician I can't play KOTOR2 without the restored content mod anymore. Since it's unlikely that would come to Switch, this is a rare example of a game I would stick with the PC version of.
...And no one thought of the name "lucasgame"?
@locky-mavo And people don't remember that previous name for a reason. It'd be like if Rare nowadays renamed themselves back to Ultimate Play the Game.
@TheFrenchiestFry Same. JFO had that special mix of something new, but paying good attention to the world of Star Wars. I felt the same way about Rogue One, pretty much the only new movie I liked.
I haven't seen Star Wars 8 or 9 or any of the spinoffs. I've lost interest in the universe. I did enjoy Rogue Squadron and Racer back in the day. And of course KOTOR.
@Elvie The way Lucas was supposedly treated/misled does seem kinda questionable...but eh, who knows what really happened/was said. All I know is, there has been a ridiculous amount of what is in my opinion very solid content ever since Disney bought Star Wars, and it’s only gonna get better. I’ll take Rebels,
Mandalorian, 5 films, a bunch of great books/comics, Fallen Order, Squadrons, and I guess Galaxy’s Edge even though it isn’t really my thing, not to mention all the other announced stuff over whatever the heck we got between Revenge of the Sith and the Disney purchase. Clone Wars (which is great) and what, Angry Birds Star Wars? I know it was a bit more than that...but man, nothing like this. I couldn’t be happier with the Disney era so far.
@zitpig other way around. It was LucasFilm Games first, then they renamed to LucasArts in 1990. Then Disney bought them out and they shut down everything and just kept the name to negotiate licenses with third parties. Now they are going back to LucasFilm Games.
They also better make a new Ballblazer and Maniac Mansion with this stuff, or at least do a Ballblazer thing for Rocket League
I bought a PS4 in large part to play these new Star Wars games that aren't on the Switch. Like Fallen Order a lot so far and have had a ton of fun with BFII. Haven't had time to try Squadrons yet but I'm looking forward to it.
gonna have to agree that LucasArts is a better name, even if this was the original name. sounds to me like this is just a brand though, not a developer and publisher hybrid as LucasArts was, so it's not a very interesting announcement unless that is the intention.
Why not ressurect "LucasArts" and otherwise make another new brand without history ?!?
Erm, Star Wars has been skipping Switch lol. Of course I”m not interested. Bit of a cynical move tbh. Feels like they want to go old school with Star Wars without wanting to undo their Disney princess trilogy. It’s funny but Nintendo’s audience is perfect for SW. Gah, I just don’t care about it anymore.
The real Lucasfilm Games had an incredible run of games until they disbanded their graphic adventure team, eventually devolving into a Star Wars sausage-making machine.
This new so-called "Lucasfilm Games" is just another empty husk owned but that hungry behemoth that used to be the Disney Company. Isn't it weird, how Disney turned into something akin to the all-devouring evil Blot in Epic Mickey?
@zitpig I want to play The Eidolon again now!
Does this mean we can have the Rogue Squadron games on switch now?
... I know it's a stretch of a connection.
Scumm engine making a comeback?
Depends on which SW direction they be going. If it Jon Favreau then I be interested or if they remake for example Roque squadron.
However if it stuff from the kennedy side then I would pass
I just want a Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (remember the GameCube) on the Switch.
Is that too much to ask for?
Just give me the Monkey Island series on Switch. Anything else is a bonus right now. But Monkey Island is a glaring omission.
Such a hollow move. LucasArts were great, but because they were a talented studio making things. Even later as a publisher they were involved in the business of making games and understood what they were backing and who to give projects to.
This is a splash screen Disney is putting before games they farm out. Not that they can't be good (Fallen Order was pretty good!), but it has nothing to do with the legacy of LucasFilms Games/LucasArts they want to make people nostalgic for: no new internal studio or anything. Just cynical marketing.
@thiswaynow
Me too. I loved that game BITD
@Tim_Vreeland - Whatever. You knew what I meant (it was 2:00am after all).
Last played a Star Wars game on GameCube. I’m good.
Horrible name but lets hope they start to create better games than they have.
Now we just need some new ones on the switch
1 classic error it’s still EA making the games.
@Heavyarms55 Fallen Order gameplay is dreadful, so you're not missing much. Watch a condensed version on YouTube, since the best bits are stories of the enemies you come across.
If you really want to play it, be prepared for small environments, made to feel smaller by annoying and obstructive elements put there purely to get in your way and slow you down, not because they're fun to navigate.
Combat is ok, but the game is mostly one of exploration, so the above really puts a dent in things. That the player character is utterly unlikeable with a face you'd want to slap doesn't help it either. Your mentor is miserable too. The sidekick pilot is entertaining, but given very little to do, despite having the best voice actor.
I think I paid £35 for it and it didn't warrant it. It's pretty, but pretty dull. Tbh, if it wasn't Star Wars, I'd have binned it off long before the end, but it feels very much like a game I tolerated rather than played.
Dig out the Wii and get The Force Unleashed on, it's far superior in everything except visuals.
@brunojenso I’m hoping that the announcement of the Rogue Squadron movie means these games will come back.
@Arnold-Kage I am looking forward to the LEGO Skywalker Saga, but it would be neat if they got ambitious with the video games like they are doing with the SW TV announcements.
Start with a Mandalorian game where you go on bounty hunting missions.
@Krambo42 Let's hope so. Even if I play RS 1 or 2 now the graphics still stun me - such epic dog-fights. I think AAA devs have, in general, forgotten how to use graphics to 'wow' now - and 4K ray-tracing ultra-textures isn't - on it's own - the key.
Some games still can like 'Gris' and I played DK Tropical Freeze last night and still found it jaw-dropping. But show me something like Control and I'm meh - and more impressed with Fall Guys or Ori etc...
@brunojenso Right there with you.
@Tandy255
That be getting your hopes up, but it would be awesome if it did happen
This explains why Disney was hiring people under the Lucasfilm Games banner a couple of years ago. They were getting ready to release the older Star Wars games, and they were gearing up for this as well. 🤔
@Grackler @TheRealMW, @Aurumonado, @FullMetalWesker, @Thundertron55
Disney has a contract with EA for "core" Star Wars games until 2023. Honestly, with Lucasfilm Games becoming a thing again, I believe this might open doors for a variety of Star Wars projects (potentially even in-house development), once the EA contract s up. I believe they're just getting started with Lucasfilm Games starting up again, especially since it says “the beginning of a ‘new era‘ ” line on the Official Star Wars Website. 🤔
@Jan-Ake
Like others have said, LucasArts used to be called Lucasfilm Games.
@Krambo42, @brunojenso, @Scrubicius
Honestly, I think that re-releasing the Rogue Squadron games isn't out of the question anymore, like it was 2+ years ago.
The fact that the older Star Wars games have started being re-released, the fact we got a new Squadrons game last year, and the movie releasing in 2023, leaves me to believe that we will get (at least) a re-release of the Rogue Squadron games sooner rather than later.
EDIT: Has the Twitter account for Star Wars games always been called Lucasfilm Games, or was it changed yesterday when the announcement happened?
I'm asking because it says that Lucasfilm Games joined Twitter in July 2015, but I feel like it hasn't been called that since they joined Twitter.
And here I was hoping for a good news, like Lucas Film ditching EA to open their own Studio.
This is just a weird branding thing, not a new studio. I'm not surprised there's people hating on EA on here, but both Fallen Order and Squadrons (especially in VR) are REALLY good games.
I just see that EA is losing the Starwars licence, I hope that is true. This gives hope for some more retro releases
