Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin has been out for less than a month, but it's already got a bunch of updates ensuring the experience is as enjoyable as it can possibly be.
The latest patch - version 1.03 - fixes multiple bugs and glitches. One was even causing the game to crash. There is also a new addition - adding the "weed control effect to bean and bran fertilizer".
Below are the full patch notes, as translated by Nintendo Everything:
– Fixed multiple glitches/bugs that made the game crash
– Fixed an issue where Ashigumo could get stuck above the ceiling and the player would be unable to progress
– Added the weed control effect to bean and bran fertilizer
– Fixed the backward order when obtaining silk and spirit thread
– Fixed other glitches/bugs
At the end of last month, XSEED Games announced this new release had sold more than 500,000 copies, making it "one of the bestsellers" for the company.

Yeah, I’ll buy it now. I was holding off but I just can’t resist after they added the weed control effect to bean and bran fertiliser.
Finally got some silk! Also very grateful for the fertilizer updates. Last two harvests have been really nice.
Welp back to hitting bears in the face with a rake!
Got this today. Not started it yet tho.
Lot of crashes on my playthrough. I bit too late for me.
I think I might be saving this as a Christmas game at this point. Can't stop playing Rocket League this week, and there's a few other games I'd prefer to progress before I launch my rice cultivating career.
I have about 50 hours on the game and never crashed or I saw bugs. I downloaded the digital version though.
@Geobros I have a physical copy and didn't encounter any crashes either. Probably required pretty specific circumstances to cause it.
My only crashes came in winter year 2, when I select the option to have dinner and only when I changed the menu. My advice is save before dinner, but hopefully that's one of the crash triggers that got fixed. I also think enemies have too many i-frames when you knock them down, I wish that would get patched.
I’d really fancied this for at least a year now, but was put off by the luke warm reviews it received, especially at the £34.99 price point when I’ve got the likes of Xenoblade Chronicles, Astral Chain and Dragon Quest XI S still in my backlog. But what do you guys think? Would you recommend I dive in and give Sakuna a chance?
@The_Pixel_King metacritic is at 81. Most of the reviews are highly positive. Even the mixed ones are in the 7 range (which is still a good game); not sure where you found lukewarm reviews.
@The_Pixel_King I loved it personally. Got through the story in a few days because I couldn't put it down. One of my favourite games this year.
@The_Pixel_King I find it too grindy and repetitive. You should skip it IMO, especially if you can have DQXI instead.
I really want a physical copy but they are not to be found.
Great! Glad they’re supporting the game. (Too bad it’s not on the cartridge, for preservation’s sake.)
This game was fun for about 5 hours. The game is way too repetitive. I wish there was some more depth to the combat and level design.
@BenAV same here man. I was on it all day yesterday. Defenately one of my GOTY's for sure. Personally i love the grind for materials and id buy a stand alone farming game too if it was like this. Absolutely love it! Full of whit, charm and they have done a really good job of shadow and lighting. It was a toss between this and war groove physical edition so i just got them both 🤷♂️
@The_Pixel_King see my above comment for my opinion.
@The_Pixel_King
If you have fancied it for about a year, the chances are very high that you would enjoy it, so absolutely give it a chance and take the plunge
It's price-point I feel is more than reasonable for what it is, tied with rrps being typically more expensive nowadays, this could have easily passed as full rrp imo. In fact the fact it wasn't made me even more interested.
Further the fact it's made by 2 people primarily is astonishing and deserves the financial support.
Lukewarm reviews statement is a bit off really as there has been some blinding ones too, it's metacritic is more than reasonable too.
As for backlog, we all have one, but out of the games you have stated, this one is quite different and could fit in pretty well to alternate between this and say DQ.
Still on my to catch up backlogs.....
@Ryu_Niiyama @BenAV @Makina @Kidfunkadelic83 @Rosona Thanks for the advice guys! With such overwhelmingly positive feedback, I think I may well grab Sakuna after all. Thanks again!
@The_Pixel_King good luck man. Hope you like it 35 is alotl to drop on something you dont like. Check out some video reviews.
@Kidfunkadelic83 My dreams for something from Vanillaware has pushed Sakuna up to a lofty position on my wishlist, so I’m clearly digging the combat. I just hope I dig the, erm.. digging! Thanks again for the advice, man 😊
@The_Pixel_King the game is defenately a slow burner and takes time to progress imo. Grinding for iron ore to improve your weapon etc so you can survive the next area whilst going back to your field and farming, and tending the crop, then rinse and repeat basically. I dont mind that tho as its just an escape from anything too hectic.
I have ver 1.0.3. It’s not letting me update to 1.4. It says I’m running the latest version when I try to do it manually.
