It happened, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, Super Mario Bros. 35 have all been officially revealed! The plethora of leaks that lead up to today's Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct may well have taken some of the surprises off the table, but frankly we still thought it was fabulous. Aside from all the games, it was just nice to get some new information from the big N, even if it was shadow dropped rather than hyped up beforehand.
Make sure to give the ol' video up there a gander if you want to hear more detailed gubbins about what we thought, and do us a favour by leaving a comment down below. Cheers!

Lovely vid from a lovely person
It’s a shame it was leaked, it was revealed so long ago that I honestly thought it was all vapour. So it was a surprise by way of not really being one at all.
Still think Nintendo butchered the 3D All Stars announcement. I'm honestly baffled at the whole "limited-time" availability thing and the omission of Galaxy 2 is really dumb.
In comparison with a lot of Nintendo's other re-releases or remasters and remakes this is surprisingly stale as a value proposition considering how cool it sounds in concept.
It's kind of funny that this comes right off the heels of something like SMT Nocturne HD Remaster's new trailer yesterday and how insanely well done that remaster looks.
No Mario Galaxy 2? Hard pass for me.
And on that same topic no widescreen or visual upgrades for Mario 64? That game looks like crap by today's standards... This had got me worried about Ocarina of Time next year...
Still can't believe Galaxy 2 was omitted... everything else was great.
SM64 does not need widescreen... authenticity is more important... back when we were watching 16:9 video on 4:3 screens, that sucked... but watching 4:3 content on a 16:9 screen is not an issue... nothing is shrunk or cropped.
Really excited, shame about Galaxy 2 but Mario 64 looks nice, Sunshine should look amazing and its not as if Galaxy isn't a brilliant game. Very much looking forward to this package and the Game and Watch which is now on the Nintendo store and that Mario Kart toy/game looks brilliant fun too
@Slowdive 3D Land is understandably absent considering I do remember the 3D effect being used thoroughly there and it'd probably be hard to adapt as a result for a non-3D system like the Switch
@holygeez03
You do understand that it's possible to produce a 16:9 image for older 4:3 3D games with little issue, right?
You just alter the 3D rendering to not clip things outside the former 4:3 area, and increase the draw area.
The 3D All-Stars version of Super Mario Sunshine does this, and the fan-made PC/Switch port of Super Mario 64 does this.
@dil_power Did you watch the trailer? SM64 looks tremendously better than the original...
It was fine. But where is the new stuff... Battle Royale Mario is odd but a remix of a game from the 80's can't be called new...
@holygeez03 Mario 64's unofficial PC conversion and the version of Sunshine in the collection clearly show that upgrading the aspect ratio and resolution for a 4:3 game can be easily done
@RupeeClock You do realize that changing the aspect ratio also drastically changes the content... and the creators may not want that... widescreen is not automatically better.
It's quite possible that Sunshine was created with widescreen in mind... it's their choice.
Honestly I preferred the August Partner Showcase.
No Galaxy 2 is weird, but I prefer the first one anyway.
It just seems a little rushed and weird for Nintendo, they look like low effort attempt. A 1080p/16:9 experience is great....but what else had been done? Slightly upgrade HUD images perhaps? They look like how I remember the games as a kid...but that's both good and bad.
Zelda got way more care, this looks rushed for the anniversary. If it was really good they would keep it on sale beyond March 2021.
@Grumblevolcano I preferred both Partner Showcases to this lol
I will be honest, I'm excited. The Limited Release Strategy is strange and kinda dumb, and Galaxy 2 would have been nice, but personally I prefer the first one anyways, so I'm still hyped for this. Although I will say, it's kinda weird that 64 doesn't have 16:9. I mean that would be the last thing I would worry about, but it's still strange as the PC Port had 16:9 and so did Sunshine, but still, not a bad direct.
@holygeez03 There’s already a widescreen patch for the ROM. I worry that Nintendo has lost the source code though, it would explain the straight ports with minimal boosts due to hardware.
@Kimyonaakuma You can play them in HD... on your TV and on a portable handheld... nothing else is needed.
Super Mario All Stars on NSO, Mario 35 and new content and online multiplayer added to SM3DW = superb.
Mario Kart Live Tour - cool concept but not something I'll ever play and kinda disappointing as it basically rules out any chance of Mario Kart 9 this gen. Plus, it will surely get boring with your living room or wherever as the only background.
Mario 3D All Stars - underwhelming is the best way to put it. Minimal enhancements, no Galaxy 2 and limited time availability. I had hoped Mario 64 would get the Doom 64 treatment. Widescreen, no jaggies, brighter image and silky smooth framerate but it seems that's not the case. Bethesda went to that effort for a free pre-order bonus for Doom Eternal but Nintendo won't do it for a full price release.
Mario Kart AR and Super Mario Bros 35 were nice surprises! This was a fun direct, much better than those wrestling showcases.
@dil_power I'm pretty sure Super Mario 64 has a higher res. SM64 doesn't NEED better graphics or NEED 16:9. I mean the absence of 16:9 IS strange, as Sunshine has it, but other than that, I'm fine with how SM64 is the same.
@holygeez03 Sunshine was never created with widescreen in mind. It's a launch window GameCube title from 2002, a time when widescreen displays were mostly in their infancy and not nearly as heavily commercialized as today. The fact that they went to the extent they did to not just upgrade the overall resolution in addition to widescreen support, but also tweaked the controls slightly to accomodate for the lack of analogue triggers for FLUDD means that they could've easily added QoL improvements to 64 just as much as they did with the other two titles
For me that was probably the most underwhelming presentation of any sorts we've gotten from Nintendo in years but that's okay I guess, can't win them all. I've got plenty to play as it is.
I would have been interested in the 3D Mario collection if they put a bit more effort in and included Galaxy 2 but as it stands it's not a very appealing package for full retail price.
Home Circuit is a cool idea but not for me and probably squashes any tiny hope there was for a new Mario Kart game in the near future.
Super Mario Bros. 35 doesn't appeal to me as much as Tetris 99 did and if it's supposedly only a limited time thing there doesn't feel like much reason to try to get invested in it.
Nothing else of particular interest. Online multiplayer in 3D World is cool if it actually works (unlike the online in Mario Maker 2) but I'm unlikely to buy the game again unless the extra content is basically like a full game. Splatfest is always a fun time so I guess there was that.
Glad it's finally been announced, we now know how the next few month's will pan out for the Switch..
There now is enough content to continue to drive Switch sales forward...
@nessisonett Given the source code for Super Mario 64 was one of the ones leaked on the internet (I believe), I think we don't need to worry about that.
@nessisonett Now that both exist, 4:3 or 16:9 is a decision for the artist/creator... one is not automatically better... the content creators made a choice to stick with 4:3 for Mario 64... and probably for good reason. I am glad they did.
If a movie producer decided to make a black and white movie, you would complain that he didn't use color?
Beyond that, there was still some cool things, most notably a Battle Royale Mario Game, cause why not, and the Game & Watch is cool.
@TheFrenchiestFry Unless you have asked the creators, you don't know that. If I recall, the Sunshine cutscenes are widescreen aspect?
And I still fail to see how re-formatting SM64 into widescreen would be a QoL improvement?
@holygeez03 16:9 is better if you’re going to be bumping the resolution to 1080p. Anyone with a half decent PC and an emulator could do that with their eyes closed. It’s not an artistic decision to keep the graphics blurry and cut off, it’s a quick and dirty port.
But the Mario Kart Live was kinda strange. It's Cute, but I see it more as a throwaway toy. And I would not be surprised if people got bored quickly.
Did people not follow the rumors? Galaxy 2 was never supposed to be part of the base 3D Collection. It is rumored to be DLC, though.
@nessisonett 16:9 vs 4:3 has NOTHING to do with the clarity of the visuals.
Everyone: Where is Galaxy 2!?
Me: FINALLY A NEW GOOD DIRECT
@tanaka2687
mario kart live is new
Don't think it was that predictable.
I certainly wasn't expecting a new Game & Watch, Mario 35 or that AR Mario Kart game. Even Mario All Stars being part of SNES online as opposed to a separate purchase was surprisingly generous of Nintendo!
Overall I am happy enough with that Mario Direct.
Now give me N64 Online and a proper Direct!
I have a switch lite, my issue is how Mario galaxy will play, how do I control the pointer? With the right stick? Don’t think there is clarification yet. Mario 64 looks relatively unchanged and that’s fine, but yeah wish it filled the whole screen maybe there is an option maybe not. My philosophy is I’m downloading this day one of course! And if I see in a shop in the next few months sometime then will buy as well xx roll on the 18 th xxx
the original Super Mario All-Stars had 4 last-gen games beautifully remade on 16bits
I was really disappointed that Nintendo missed the opportunity to make a new Super Mario All-Stars collection with the 2D titles from DS, Wii, 3DS and WiiU
at least we got this 3D All-Stars but that is also disappointing for missing Galaxy 2 and minimal-effort remasters - sorry, M64 just looks like crap
At this point I believe the leaks are just Nintendo saving money on marketing. Put a big campaign together that cost millions or have sites like this do it for free ha
Absolutely nobody predicted or leaked Mario Battle Royale or Mario Kart AR.
@holygeez03 It literally does. 4:3 would be 1440x1080. The Switch outputs at 1920x1080 therefore Mario 64 will output at 1920x1080 with black bars to recreate the 4:3 effect, same as the NSO games. A native 1080p image would be a higher resolution.
"Poor ARMS."
Never retire, Alex. The world needs you too much.
@holygeez03 I agree with you on the 4:3 for mario 64. While having widescreen would be nice or even better allowing for both but if they could only chose one I rather keep the original aspect.
I remember getting the Batman: The animated series on blu ray and it kept the 4:3 aspect and was so happy as other companies would do widescreen but would lose things or show things that weren't ment too be seen.
@NikHogan I wouldn't really call that 'a game'.
The Mario Direct does fill up Nintendo's release schedule for the next 2 months:
Sep: Mario 3D All-Stars
Oct: Mario Kart Live + Pikmin 3 DX
Nov: ???
Dec: ???
Now the only question is what Nintendo will release in November or December.
In a normal world, any big November or December titles would have been announced already or within a week from today, but with Nintendo announcing Mario 3D All-Stars for a release a mere 2 weeks later, all bets are off the table.
@SilentHunter382 Batman’s different. It was only filmed in 4:3 therefore that was the only information to show. Games are different as you can patch them so that the camera shows more on either side instead of cutting off the image. Just google Mario 64 widescreen patch to see what I mean. Even the Direct showed that exact process in the Sunshine segment.
Am I the only one here blown away by Kart live!?
I somehow also managed to miss all the leaks - don’t know how - about was all gravy to me . Well happy camper
So what’s Nintendo going to release in November and December?
@TheFrenchiestFry July's Partner Showcase had way too few games and the WWE game is bad such that SMT didn't saved it for me. Still it was nice to know SMTV isn't vaporware, same can't be said for Prime 4.
A tad predictable? I never could have predicted Super Mario Bros. 35, and the Mario Kart Living Room Circuit is a cool, unexpected idea (though I won't be getting it). Mario All Stars on NSO was a nice surprise, and I am relieved that I was wrong about 3D All Stars. All in all, this is the best thing they have done all year, though the competition is pretty light.
Did you all get your pre orders in? As soon as Best Buy started them, I jumped on.
@nessisonett True if it is done correct but when it is done poorly it can be done poorly. A bad example was the Silent Hill hd collection. were in the original the cutscenes were in letterbox format and was still a 4:3 game but the hd collection said screw that and made them widescreen but removed the letter box showing things that weren't ment too be scene.
This is why I prefer too have the original aspect. Now if it is done correctly then fantastic but when they mess it up then ouch. Having both is always the best choice as if they mess it up then you have the original too fall back on.
I mean- they couldn't help it if the biggest news was leaked half a year ago, and they STILL managed to wow with a couple big surprises. Mario Game & Watch!? Mario Royale!? Mario Kart but in real life? (A little gimmicky, but still cool...)
@SilentHunter382 The problem with that remaster is that they lost the source code. That was the root of every single issue with that pile of garbage. I agree that I’d prefer 4:3 if they only offer a cut off widescreen image but games like REmake have already offered both properly.
@nessisonett Yep REmake is a prime example of having both options will keep both sides happy.
@nessisonett NOPE... in both of your examples the vertical resolution is 1080... all else being equal, a 1920x1080 image will not have any additional clarity over a 1440x1080 image... they are just different shapes (aspect ratio).
Having black bars on the edge of the screen does not diminish the clarity.
and EVERYONE on the internet was WRONG "GuYS ReMaKEs
nope. just ports.
see ya later who knows what nintendo pot stirs for speculations will be next?
@SilentHunter382 when did nintendo say they where going to REMAKE ALL THE GAMES?!!?!?
@BanjoPickles COMPETITION?
my guy nintendo isnt striving to be #1. It was never their goal why Microsoft and sony arm wrestle
go somewhere else.
@HotGoomba they did that with the wii 25th anniversary?
why are you crying?
@dil_power k im buying it.
I sold my 64 and i never got to own/play sunshine i watched galaxy....
have fun not playing
Here is a great article on why it is not simply "better" to re-format to widescreen aspect... even if no information is lost (cropped)... it still changes the content, which may not be what the creator wanted.
https://www.theverge.com/2014/12/28/7457291/the-wire-hd-screenshot-comparisons
This is a quote from David Simon, the creator of the subject of the article:
"I’m satisfied that while this new version of The Wire is not, in some specific ways, the film we first made, it has sufficient merit to exist as an alternate version. There are scenes that clearly improve in HD and in the widescreen format. But, there are things that are not improved. And even with our best resizing, touchups and maneuver , there are some things that are simply not as good. That’s the inevitability here: This new version, is, after all, is one that is presented in an aspect ratio that simply wasn’t intended or serviced by the filmmakers."
@TheFrenchiestFry becayse galaxy didnt sell well.
also the 25th anniversary wii game was also limited run.
i dont know why people are crying
These are absolutely remasters, not mere ports... anyone who thinks otherwise really needs a side-by-side comparison with the original games.
Quite happy with the anouncement. Even though the main things were leaked, the icing on the cake wasn’t (MKAR, M35, g&w) which showed a load of love. Def trying to get that g&w
On the main games. Wondering hoe big that extra level in SM3DW is. Always like the game in its simple compactly created creative levels. Even though i didn’t got a big yeah from it when replaying it on the wiiU recently.l, while SMO keeps surprising me
Really happy with the allatars. SM64 does look a bit sharper, but interestingly what digital foundry will make of it. Haven’t played that WIdescreen path so don’t know how big that effect would be. Might be showing to much thougj, since a lot of sm64 was the surprises the camera gave you.
Never played sms, except
For emulated, since in Gamecube times irlt was supposed to be dissapointing. Had it in my hands a number of times 15 years ago.. (bough a widescreen tv in 2003 btw, so i suppose some of nintendo’s developers actually had a widescreen while developing).
And super mario galaxy simply is one of the best games ever created. So much fun jumping. And really loved the NVidia sequences. Smg2 was mainly dlc in my opinion (even though it was brilliant), so they might do that. (Lostlevels was dlc back in the day as well i guess). Btw. You can play HD galaxy 2 on WiiU l since it was released as a download game. I will probably do that somewhere this week;).
A fun direct overall; will definitely grab these remasters. I just hope we get Super Mario Galaxy 2 later down the line.
Amazing seeing these rumors coming true; now can Nintendo hurry up and give us Metroid Prime Trilogy and GBA duology/remasters next, please?
I was gonna buy 3d collection but they missed galaxy 2 so I guess they will miss my money too.
@holygeez03 you can't compare a movie to a videogame so simply. In a movie you only get to see from specific points of view, those chosen by the director. In a 3d game you can explore all you want. Why going to such lengths to defend the laziness of a company you don't even work for?
@dil_power "No Mario Galaxy 2? Hard pass for me."
Already have it pre ordered, but seriously, leaving out Galaxy 2 is worse than all of the Sonic Collections that leave out the best one: Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
So are we not getting anything worth noting for the end of the year that’s not already announced?!
Sending my love to the aspect ratio purists out there.
As the three games are barebones ports, it was expected that Super Mario 64 would retain it original aspect ratio (as on-screen text placement may have been problematic without additional adjustments).
I look forward to playing Sunshine for the very first time, and Galaxy is going to look absolutely beautiful. Galaxy was one of the few Wii games where I lamented the absence of HD capability.
@AndreaF96 I am defending the decision to let creators decide how their work is presented.
If changing SM64 to a widescreen aspect is as easy as people are claiming... and the creators did decide to change the Sunshine aspect... then it was likely an artistic decision to keep the original SM64 aspect.
I am glad they did.
I am going to have to find out if mario galaxy works on a switch lite due to no joy cons.
@OorWullie Others do what Nintendont.
Well I’ve just preordered 3D Allstars and can’t wait! What a trip down memory lane Mario 64 is going to be, and i havent pkayed Sunshine before. Looking forward to the other ganes coming too. 🙌🏻
So HYPED! Already preordered All-Stars and I can't believe it comes out in only 15 days
Not including Galaxy 2 is like when Kirby's Dream Collection got released without Kirby and the Amazing Mirror.
But uh, it's not a huge deal, just a missed opportunity. I'm sure most people just want Sunshine anyway.
@holygeez03 video games are not comparable to films and TV shows when talking about aspect ratio. Simply because the scene on a video game is framed by the player, not the director.
You look at games like Halo 1 and 2, that absolutely did improve with wide-screen support. Or Resident Evil 1 or 0, that added wide screen with an option. Or Sypro or Crash that are remade with wide screen. All have no problem with wide screen being added to games originally designed with 4:3. At the very least, they could have done a RE and just gave players the option.
Since I am listing off better collections, I'd like to add Borderlands and Bioshock here. All these have given more game, with more effort, and usually for less money. The 3D all stars is just a poor effort, and only Nintendo fans would praise such crap.
Tad predictable if you follow all the nutters on resetera lol. But for everyone else it was fab! Oh, and noone is allowed to say they predicted Mariokart live Home Circuit!
A lot people are calling these ports? A port is simply getting a game to run on different hardware... Based on what I have seen, 3D All Stars are complete remasters and look significantly better than the original games.
Exactly why SM64 is running at 720p and not 1080p, I am not sure... I would be very interested to hear from someone who worked on the project... I'd bet there is a reason for the decision.
The best explanation that I have heard is that the original SM64 native resolution was 320x240... 240 scales to 720 very nicely... not 1080. I don't know if this is the actual reason.
@NintendoPok Bruh Galaxy not selling well is a flat out wrong statement
It was the third best selling Wii game that wasn't bundled with the console as well as the 9th best selling first party title on the system. It was also the highest selling game of December 2007 and one of nine different Wii games that surpassed 5 million units sold in the US alone.
Am I missing something here? The big rumor were that Mario 64 was gonna be remastered in glorious HD, while the other 3D Mario games were included.
How exactly is this reveal exciting? Its just the same games for an insanely high price. I can play these games for free on my computer for god sake.
Try again Nintendo..
@Richnj I agree that it is not a direct comparison... but I feel my example was reasonable support that it is not automatically better to convert to widescreen aspect just because it's possible.
The look of the game would change and a decision was made to not do that... I respect the decision.
@RupeeClock took 23 years (and some luck) to modders finally implement widescreen on Mario 64, and this was done outside emulation evoirement, this was 2 years ago. So, today, I can't agree with that:
"it's possible to produce a 16:9 image for older 4:3 3D games with little issue"
I respect your opinion tho
Gotta disagree. Even with the leaks, this Direct was 100% unpredictable for me. Game&Watch, Mario Battle Royale, Mario Kart Live, online multiplayer in 3D World, Mario All Stars online, brand new content in the form of Bowser Fury. Nobody expected any of that and this Direct fully impressed and surprised me.
@Norwegianguy it technically is remastered for HD....they just did nothing else.
Really great direct. Alex killed it on this 😂 had me laughing all the way through. Looks like a busy few months ahead
It really could've been better. It was definitely not a bad Direct by any means but I feel they dropped the ball on a few things. 3D All-Stars in particular; when you compare this to the likes of the Spyro and Crash remakes, this package does feel a little weird to sell at full price, and it doesn't even include Mario Galaxy 2. Unless it's unlockable somehow but I'm afraid that's probably not gonna be the case.
The Mario Kart live thing was weird. It looked fun but people really just want a new proper Mario Kart already, or at least additional content for 8 Deluxe. Mario Kart Tour does not count.
The 3D World port looks fine, and the Bowser's Fury thing looks cool.... but for all we know it's just a single (long) stage that you plow through and be done with it. Not saying that's gonna be the case, but a little more information would have been nice. Also needed new playable characters. I want to play this with new characters. Yoshi in particular, but I'll also accept Wario, maybe even Toadette.
Overall though it was a pretty good Direct; I'm looking forward to the 3D All-Stars collection, 3D World, Super Mario Bros. 35, and even a bit that Game & Watch thing just for novelty sake. Could've been better, but definitely also could've been a lot worse. 7/10 if I had to rate it.
@abdias
Little issue for people with access to source code was my point.
Be it Nintendo's own official source code, or closed-room reverse engineered source code.
Yet another rumour, but I must say quite a good one, it had me going up until I spotted a blooper.
All three games for fifty quid, that's only £16.66666666 each. No way would Nintendo do that.
@NintendoPok
Huh? I’m not talking about MS or Sony. I’m talking about Nintendo’s announcements, throughout the year. I’m talking about the competition of Nintendo’s previous announcements.
Don't mind the 4:3 display for SM64, I'll probably leave 16:9 for SMS off as I always prefer the aspect ratio the game was made for.
@TheFrenchiestFry lots of GameCube games supported widescreen. It seems quite likely they developed it with widescreen in mind but ended up not including it in the final release (maybe for performance reasons).
There was only one thing that sucked. I watched the American Direct not the UK one and their MyNintendo is giving away awesome pin badges that ours isn’t. Apart from that it was all good stuff!
@Kimyonaakuma The Zelda games were actual remasters, these are "just" ports. However, these three classics for 60 euro? Yes, please!!
I don’t agree at alllllllllllll......
The fact so many didn’t believe the rumours meant it wasn’t predictable at all.
Leaked info doesn’t equate to predictable.
Some of it was illogical.
Some of it frustrating.
Put I wouldn’t have said six months ago you’d have guessed anything announced properly.... as all of it had u expected aspects.
So no
Not predictable.
Leaked
Jeez, Gamers™ always have to find something to complain about.
An actual Direct! That was amazing!!!!
Predictable my ass, alex. So pretentious.
@NintendoPok Wait what?
The only thing that was leaked was 3D all stars though. SNES allstars on NSO, Mario Kart AR and the Battle royale Mario were all nice surprises.
Have pre-ordered Super Mario 3D Allstars. Wonder what the controls will be like for Galaxy with the joycons and whether they'll manage to be as good as the Wii Remote.
I just hope they give us the chance to get the games separately. I don't care about M64, but I do want Sunshine and Galaxy, and I'd pay 20€ for each.
Nintendo fans: “we want the Mario 3D remasters!”
*Nintendo finally announces 3D All Stars.
“Great. Ports.”
God, I hate Nintendo fans, sometimes.
Predictable ?
Only cuz leakers
@OorWullie I hate to say it, but I think u are right about MK9 this gen. I am quite sickened.
@BanjoPickles I highly doubt that exactly the same people are making those statements, that wouldn’t make any sense.
@nessisonett So true. I also thought this rumor was pretty-well laid to rest. I don't know if I'm more surprised it was real, or more surprised that it's $60. You think Bowser's Fury looks open-world?
Maybe it was that predictability that made it exciting, right? Because it lived up to everyone's expectations.
Even if I prefer the positive surprises, that honestly made it one of the better directs of this year, and hopefully will build the foundations for the next announcements.
@PoorGeno I have no clue to be honest, it did look like a hub world. 3D World wasn’t my cup of tea so I’ll wait to see how Bowser’s Fury is before deciding whether or not to double dip.
The direct in my opinion was just ok.
All stars seemed a bit underwhelming due to the games not getting a visual upgrade, basically just an upscaled port.
Other trilogys that were remastered had way more effort put into them like Crash N Sane Trilogy, Spyro remastered. And they didn't even charge full price unlike this one.
Not to mention having it available until the end of March was beyond stupid. This isn't worth $60.
3D World Deluxe was neat, had noticeable visual upgrades plus additional content which is always welcome. Plus more people get to play it.
Super Mario 35 was just Tetris 99 but with Mario, and it looks fun and creative.
New splatfest got me excited along which T shirts that looks nice. I hope those aren't limited addition though.
Game and Watch looks cool but not something I'm going to be spending my money on. I'm sure collectors will eat that up though.
Mario Kart Home Circuit would've blew my mind if I was a kid, I'm sure they'll love this.
Rest I either forgot about or was just meh to me. Other than that the direct was ok. I would rate it 6/10.
@BanjoPickles Nintendo fans five years ago: "The Wii U has no games."
Nintendo fans now: "The only games the Switch has are Wii U ports."
If you notice the logo with each game side by side, it has space for another game. Galaxy 2, anyone? I think it'll come, as a unlock content or at least (and probably the case) a DLC. I think the timed offer means the package will be solutes after that (it doesn't mean right after, but sometime after)
I'd bet that Galaxy 2 might come as a paid DLC.
@BanjoPickles but nintendo isnt looking to be #1 there not in it for competition with themselves? yes best direct of the year
I was hoping for a Mario 64 and Sunshine remake with Odyssey engine. But still im happy with the announcement.
Here's my two cents on the whole Mario 64 aspect ratio. While it could be a case of Nintendo being lazy it could also be artistic vision. Just because 16:9 provides more visual information that doesn't necessarily mean that information was meant to be seen or that the game was designed to be viewed through that lense. Keep in mind that even in movies the standard 1.85:1 or 2.29:1 aspect ratio is sometimes ignored for 4:3 or even stranger ratios. Modern films like The Lighthouse or A Ghost Story chose to have their films viewed through a more narrow perspective it doesn't make them bad movies.
@holygeez03 The issue here is that people tend to think remaster and remake are interchangeable terms. I've seen people say that these are bad remasters compared to the Crash and Spyro "remasters," ignoring that those were remakes rebuilt from the ground up rather than just taking the original games and remastering them. I've seen people mix the two up for years, and it just leads to situations like this where people get mad because they expected these games to be fully remade rather than just remastered. They definitely look better than the originals, and I seem to be in the minority that's excited for the collection. I've never played Sunshine and Galaxy is easily my favorite Mario game, so I'm looking forward to playing both in HD.
It's better to be predictable than disappointing. If I found out that time, talent, and resources were wasted giving Bowser Jr his own game, I'd probably destroy Nintendo's headquarters.
...
Come to think of it, I think a video game with him as the main character might have at least been discussed.
Very excited for this to release. Gives me incentive to play through all 3 games again. That aside, I'm a bit upset that Mario 64 isn't sporting a widescreen aspect ratio. Would have been really nice to have that considering hackers were able to make that happen in what, a week or two once given the source code?
Oh, and where is Galaxy 2?
Regardless, pretty excited! Those nitpicks aside, the collection look really good. It's going to be awesome having proper handheld versions of Sunshine and Galaxy!
Stoked! Already pre-ordered the physical 3D All-Stars at Best Buy. Might have to pick up that Game & Watch! Very excited to see what Bowser’s Fury is all about.
Predictable is Nintendo's business strategy but the fans are just as mindless
@holygeez03 they could have easily added an option to turn on or off widescreen (maybe they did). Look at the resolution of the game in another article here on Nintendolife. The mario 64 port clearly received little attention from nintendo.
@NintendoPok
*sigh
I’m not talking about competition in the literal sense. I’ll break it down:
Due to the pandemic, the announcements this year have ranged from good (Paper Mario, Pikmin) to complete garbage (that Direct Mini where they actually highlighted a WWE Chiba game). This is the first announcement all year that actually got me excited. So, when I say the competition is light, I am referring to all of Nintendo’s announcements throughout the year.
@jimtendog Bedwetters is an understatement for a lot of them.
@JimmySpades I've been waiting until the dust settles a bit before commenting, but what I have noticed is there's still a huge amount of confusion concerning the difference between the words "I" and "we". I might be completely wrong and discover they're most likely using the royal "we".
@nessisonett Hub World? Yeah, good call. Hadn't occurred to me, but now I can't not see that.
@WiltonRoots No, rhetorical flourishes are quite beyond them. They really do assume their experiences are indicative of everyone's.
@JimmySpades we’re fuming about Nintendo’s practices recently. We’re not standing for any of this. It’s not what we want. We still can’t believe we’ve got people making judgements on our behalf. Hey, maybe they think they know better than us.
The lack of effort on 64 is perhaps the biggest disappointment for me as Nintendo fan for decades. Honestly, the game needs a full remake. That said, it would’ve been passable if they had fixed the camera, added wide screen, and used the DS version at least. But they didn’t even do that... Really disappointing....
@BanjoPickles thank you for being clear ok.
