Update 2 (Mon 17th Aug, 2020 12:30 BST): We've spoken to Ruud van de Moosdijk (again) and he's made it clear a Switch version of Killer7 was "never" in development under Engine Software. Here's exactly what he had to say:
It was never in development. When we started working with Suda-San on the PC version, it was an on-going discussion during development, but as I said - in the end, the decision was made not to work on a Switch version. But since it was part of the initial discussion it was still internally listed as "Killer7 - PC/Switch project" which is where the confusion came from.
So what are the chances of Killer7 coming to the Switch in the future? If it is happening - Engine Software apparently has nothing to do with it:
It has not come up in conversation, but both Suda-San as ourselves are quite busy at the moment and with all cancelled events we have not had the chance to catch-up. Never say never, but if it is in the works, it is not in the works with Engine.
Update (Sun 16th Aug, 2020 07:30 BST): Engine Software's owner & VP of development, Ruud van de Moosdijk, has reached out to Nintendo Life, and unfortunately, it doesn't sound like Killer7 will be coming to the Switch anytime soon. The project he's working on is not Killer7 for the Nintendo Switch and the banner on his LinkedIn page should have been changed. Sorry folks!
Without saying anything about unannounced projects, the unannounced project I am working on with a prolific Japanese developer, is not Killer7 for Switch sorry.
The banner on LinkedIn should have been changed, as in the end we only did a PC version of Killer7.
Original story (Sat 15th Aug, 2020 05:05 BST): Earlier this year, legendary game designer Suda51 said he would love to bring some of Grasshopper Manufacture's older titles to Nintendo's latest system but it wasn't his decision to make. One mentioned was the cult hit action-adventure, Killer7. It made its debut on the GameCube and PS2 in 2005 but a re-release on Switch is "pretty much" out of his control, last we heard.
Now, YouTuber Doctre81 - perhaps best known for uncovering evidence of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition, well before it was even announced for Nintendo's hybrid platform - has found a LinkedIn page of an Engine Software employee making reference to a "Killer7 Remaster" for the Switch. Take a look below:
As noted by Doctre81, Engine Software teamed up with Suda51 in 2018 and released Killer7 on the PC. The profile description also mentions how the employee is a producer on an "unannounced title" in collaboration with a "prolific Japanese game designer", which is believed to be - you guessed it - Suda51.
One other Suda51 classic that might be making a return is the original No More Heroes after a rating for it was discovered on the classification board in Taiwan earlier this month. Would you like to see Killer7 make a comeback? Tell us below.

I need this to happen. I will pay for it again.
This hypothetical direct will be hype if this is true
That'd be pretty nice. Obviously this has no bearing on the other members of the Capcom 5, but a Viewtiful Joe compilation would be appreciated, too.
PN03 can stay where it is, though. ;P
Hopefully it’ll be as fun as I remember it being
I’d kill to have this on my Switch! (See what I did there?)
Could we also get Viewtiful 1 & 2 and No More Heroes 1 & 2 as well please?
That patched new intro to Travis Strikes Again tells me this was in the works for a while. There probably will be a bigger tie-in to all Suda51 games in NMH3 at some point if not at least allusions and shout-outs.
This is off topic but for some reason this made me realize I'd like a new Bushido Blade.
KILLER 7 still sits proudly in my GCN collection. It is still one of my favorite games, right up there with SNATCHER for narrative driven games. An abstract wonder to behold. I need this and NMH 1&2.
Could we get some new, original games too please.
@Priceless_Spork What a game like
@Priceless_Spork You're in luck! https://youtu.be/yvyJfevEX8Y
I would really like this to happen. Loved the GC classic.
I remember playing it as a teenager and I didn’t understand a thing about the game back then. And not that much fun... on rails shooter with a weird aesthetic. It was a bit meh for me, but I still have it for my GameCube. Is it really that good? Should I play it now that I’m older? Or is it a bit on the overrated side?
In 2018 I was praying that this would come to the Switch! The original would be in my all time top 10. The narrative structure is crazy ambitious, bold, and utterly delirious. It's just so unique, and utterly compelling. Fingers crossed that this happens.
I remember playing that on GameCube. I can’t say that I enjoyed it as such, in the traditional sense...but I played the heck out of it and it was very much an experience.
@fafonio
Personally speaking, I found the story very hard to follow, as it jams in so many different themes and concepts. It drills down into a tangled mass of characters as well as concerning itself with a global plot involving terrorists and governments. The game builds itself into a frenzy, which culminates in a delirious and deliciously tense ending, although many questions remain. I'd give it another go, and see if it hooks you this time. But it can feel a bit "overwhelming", that is for sure!
@X68000 Yes, they will be doing it because you said it on a forum.
@Nemesis66
Forum
noun
1.
a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.
"we hope these pages act as a forum for debate"
No More Heores 1 & 2 and Killer7 in HD would be something I wanna (re)play.
Yes, more full prices ports!
Can't wait to see killer is dead too !
Never got round to playing this so will give it a try if it comes to switch.
That's an instant double dip. I'd even get a collector's edition if it happens and they make one. All it needs is an HD remastering, and gyro aiming, and it's one of my favourite games ever, beating the original on Gamecube.
@tofarawaytimes Contact was such a weird and fantastic game, still have it. I played most of their games, and with most of them I have reasons to absolutely love it, and reasons why I wouldn't recommend them to anyone... But another absolute gem that is kind of unknown and that I would recommend at least looking into, is the adventure game "Flower, Sun, and Rain" (PS2 and DS, I only played the DS version). And a couple of better known ones, but you probably know those already.
@koekiemonster there are certainly overpriced ports but its such an old game they may not even have the assets from the original development. Even if they did they would still have to do a lot of work to bring the quality up to HD standards while maintaining the look at the original.
When I got this game for Christmas on my GC, I got chickenpox as well. It was an interesting way of handling the decease, and it became one of my favorite games in the system, so unique in every aspect.
When I played Killer 7 back on GC I always thought the plot and gameplay was a parody of game design and stories in general. Most stories funnel you down the same path, doing the same repetitive thing that has a little nuance to master. I thought it was genius at the time and I still occasionally boot it up on my GC. But not to the same extent I Replay Resi 4 which is identically themed, but with a super cheesy 90s plot to breeze over. Then again now I've said it, Killer 7s plot was cheesy 90s too with a classic manga twist.
I hope so!!
Never have a chance to get the game, and now it’s more and more hard to find a copy for the GameCube.
I’d probably get it. It’s such a weird game and pretty creepy. I’m with you guys on no more heroes and most whole heartedly, viewtiful joe games. They need to bring joe back, it’s been too long.
Im ready to triple dip.
@RickD seeing that there are tons of users here expressing their interest and admiration in the game, I would say it was a complete failure. (Sarcasm) Of course it deserves another visit/remaster. Don’t be so negative.
I would love this to be true. I got Killer7 at launch and adored it. Absolutely batsh*t crazy and so unique.
Also, it's literally only just occurred to me that the dead guy called Travis who gives you advice is actually the ghost of Travis Touchdown. I'm stupid.
I loved this back in 2005, I loved the artsyle and bizarre controls. Still got gc disc but never went back will one day xxx
So many Gamecube games nees to be re-released, and this is one of them.
This game is a true masterpiece.
I have feeling that nothing will ever surpass it, because games that dare to be this artistic rarely get a AAA budget - just look at cheaply the Deadly Premonition and No More Heroes games are made.
But for Killer7, Suda was somehow (probably because of Mikami's support) able to get Capcom to give him AAA money for a game that wasn't designed as a cookie cutter commercial product, but as a piece of art.
I hope the Switch version will help it to finally reach a new audience.
Great game, I have it on GC, but I would definitely pick it up again on the Switch. I really hope we get NMH1 as well, one of my favourite Wii games.
May be off topic but i would prefer a port of Madworld
I'd love this & "killer is dead" - would make this boy happy
@__jamiie is that a fact? I always kindve thought so to but never really heard outright. They do kindve wear the same random tank tops.
@TYRANACLES I'm not 100% but I'm fairly sure. A character called Travis who is a ghost in Killer7 that says I used to be an assassin. There's a YouTube video of it I think.
Come to think of it, I still got the Gamecube original in a factory wrapper. I might pick it up for the Switch if it ever comes out.
@RickD that’s true, tragically so.
Wow that's exciting, hope it's true
There is a demand for it.
Bummer. I never did play Killer7 when I should have, a Switch version would have been a day one purchase.
Give us a Switch port any way, ya cowards! ❤️
FFS. I was really hopeful for a Switch port
All I can do is laugh at this point. lol
Another day, another false-ass rumor. Really getting tired of it
Why port for PC? You can play Killer7 using Dolphin.
Lol. It’s like the wiiu days all over again
Medium rude.
But I still have it on Gamecube, so it ain't that bad.
Rented this one for the Ps2. Pretty strange but fun tho
I mean, PC is still a win for game preservation.
So sad to hear that we aren’t ready yet for fullpriced NGC ports. Guess we’ll have to do with fullprice WiiU ports.
#nintendolife
Not happening, oh what a surprise 😂😂
Well that’s just lovely...I think it’ll happen eventually tho if no more heroes gets as much love as it seems it will. The GameCube version I’d get, but it’s very pricey these days.
@NoTinderLife unofficially my guy
So glad the PS5 is dropping soon because honestly, the Switch is a ghost town now.
Fully ready to move onto the next console now.
To be honest, 3 solid years with some of the best games I have ever played was fun. But going by Nintendo's past trend with consoles, we're in the twilight section of the consoles lifespan.
Now the Switch is not even guaranteed to get the "new" rehash ports.
Ye lil bit sad but still more nice port like lollipop chainsaw, shadow of the damned, killer is dead having chance in the suda games list , kadogawa, warner bros & EA oh wait
Between this, Scott Pilgrim creator and Ubisoft talking, and Def Jam game rumors, and now the Skyward Sword listing on Amazon UK, I don't think any of these will materialize into a release on the Switch. It would make too much sense for them to happen, which is why they won't.
Engine Software and Ruud van de Moosdijk both sucks. If you announce something then stick to it. Dont abandon it for no reason. Just don't buy anything from them.
Really hope this comes to Switch along with NMH 1&2.
now that's what i wana hear a new game buy a good computer game maker. i think there's been enough remaster's of games. although i did play killer 7 it was really good i say 7 out of 10.
@dimi Did they announce it though? I thought this was a case of NL grasping at straws, and taking off hand comments and turning them into game announcements.
@Razer It does feel like the momentum has come to a halt. I can’t imagine Nintendo pushing out a significant amount of first party titles anymore. Probably the Metroid game and BOTW2, but from here on out I just expect ports and shovelware.
COVID sure is an ugly beast. When he says all the canceled events dashed their chances to catch up I imagine we have Covid to blame for this not happening.
@Razer you have a dark souls my friend
But I'm also saving for PS5, just for the games which will never come to Switch, which are plentiful!
Is this game worth so much attention? I never played a Suda51 game, just because not a single game trailer made me click with it. But it doesn't sound like it's the end of the world if it's not happening...
OT: According to this German interview with 11 bit studios, Frostpunk will not come to Switch. https://www.4players.de/4players.php/spielinfonews/Allgemein/38098/2192086/Frostpunk-Interview_Grosser_Erfolg_in_Deutschland_Aufbau-Strategie_auf_Konsolen_und_keine_Switch-Plaene.html

It sounds like it could've been broken into two projects... if the Switch version is even a thing at all.
@mazzel I'm just telling it like it is, the Switch lasted nearly 3 years for me, I'm still using it more than my PS4, which started to wane around when the Switch dropped.
It only makes sense now my interest for the Switch is waning now that the PS5 is coming.
I have over 40 games, spent more than a total of 2300 hours across various games and have had 2 sets of Joy Cons (due to drift) - I've had my fun, it's time to move on.
Unless Nintendo drops a Pro Switch and suddenly pulls some games out of nowhere before the end of the year, I see myself having moved on by early next year. That is if the PS5 is really coming this holiday, as it hasn't been officially confirmed yet.
@mazzel
It's the best video game ever in my opinion, a true 10/10 masterpiece.
@Sabrewing I remember wanting to like PN03 so much! But couldn't. Don't think I played past the 2nd level before selling it.
Oh well, at least they're making a new project, but I wonder if it's new for Switch too.
@Razer I still have some 100+ games in my backlog (DQ11, Fire Emblem, Tales of Vesperia), so I think this will keep me going until the PS5 drops.
Nevertheless, if there are more good Switch games I am always ready to go back. Specifically waiting for more Zelda, Bayonetta 3, Metroid (and hopefully they make a remake of the trilogy, as I never played it) and others which I don't know yet.
@EmirParkreiner maybe I check it out on PC then
So the update tells us that Killer 7 isn't coming to the Switch?
That is a real shame. A bit gutted to tell the truth
@mazzel I'm also waiting for Zelda and Bayonetta, I would also be waiting for Metroid but for some reason I don't think we're getting that game on the Switch.
@Razer regarding metroid: onn the one hand this would be very disappointing, on the other hand it's better to have a good and polished game that take it's time for developing
@mazzel yeah I don't mind waiting as long as it's good.
@SoIDecidedTo It's nuts how Resident Evil 4 runs on the exact same engine and is such a vastly superior experience.
@Sabrewing I did not know this. Thanks for that knowledge. I REALLY wanted to like PN03, and even now, when I know at the time I hated it, I want to romanticize it and say, "It's probably better than I remember". I'm quite positive... it's not.
