A release date for Minecraft's huge and upcoming Nether Update has been revealed. You'll be able to get stuck in on Nintendo Switch and other platforms starting next week on 23rd June.
The game's Nether dimension is about to blossom into something much bigger and more exciting than ever before, with new blocks, items, biomes, and threats all headed to its lava-filled world. You'll be meeting up with the grumpy Piglins, who you'll be able to trade items with, and the Hoglins - the "snoutiest, tastiest mob in Minecraft".
The update will also introduce Netherite, a material that, for the first time, will offer players something stronger than diamond, as well as the Target Block which lets you activate Redstone switches with arrows.
The official site delves deeper into everything the update will offer, but you can already get an early taste by checking out the Nether Update's soundtrack below.
Are you a keen Minecraft player? Will you be checking out this new update next week? Let us know in the usual place.

My first First! This may get me back into MC. It's been a while but I do love the game.
I can't be bothered getting back into Minecraft any time soon but great decision to get Lena Raine to do the soundtrack. She did an amazing job with Celeste.
I didn't know Lena Raine was working on Minecraft's soundtrack now! I love her music in Celeste.
Wow, you can now activate redstone with an arrow? So worth the wait... -_-
For a franchise as huge as this, I expected them to do much more in a shorter amount of time.
I am super excited about this. Now the llamas I accidentally sent to the Nether will have company.
Where’s the cave update???????????????????????????????????????????
Ok, this is epic
Awesome that they're updating the Nether but could have been a bit more than this.
I was always a bit... netherwhelmed, by Nether as a location you fought relatively hard to enter.
This sounds like a good bit of what the place needs. ^^
Can't wait. We have a few Switch consoles at home and remote family that hops on Minecraft to play regularly. This update sounds like just what we needed.
Oh so we finally get the pigmen, without the "zombie" part.
Will this be available on Pocket Edition?
@Zeta_Genome You sent llamas to the nether? That’s evil, llamas are so cute!
@Daniel36 So you're just going to ignore the fact that they overhauled the entirety of the Nether?
@Moon There's loads! New mobs, new armour, new biomes, new blocks!
I actually thought since the Better Together update that all versions of Minecraft received updates at the same time. I was mistaken.
@idrawrobots all versions of Minecraft still receive updates at the same time. Java edition, however, gets snapshots, which are like previews of upcoming updates to test out new features and fix bugs early on (basically a beta). That might be what you’ve seen people play, but the nether update is only just now officially releasing on all platforms.
Yeah! Can’t wait for this update!
@BabyYoshi12
It was a total freak accident. I saw the wandering trader by my Nether portal so I tried to push him out of the way but accidentally shoved his llamas through the portal instead.
I'd get back into this game if any of my friends wanted to play it anymore - but they've all moved on from Minecraft and I don't enjoy it in single player.
It's fine though, I'm not remotely lacking for games to play!
@MimoDX2 Yes. Yes, I am. Haha. But seriously, there's sooo much more they can do. Especially villagers. They are just wandering around all the time, doing nothing. But ah well. It's still enjoyable enough for my kids.
@Zeta_Genome
Does the trader still talk to you following this horrific incident?
"Hello! I'm a trader! Is there anything that I can... wait... WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY LLAMAS?!?!"
😆
@Varazadi It wasn’t mentioned in the article, so I wasn’t sure. Unrelated question- What character is your profile picture?
Hopefully the new fabulous graphics setting shown off in the latest Pre-releases, on Java, comes to the switch. Nintendo won't be getting Ray Tracing for a while, so we'll need it for the meantime.
@Daniel36 you do know they barely listed any of the features right, click the link to the official site and read the update notes..
More Minecraft content is always a good thing!
I love MC but I'm somewhat confused by all the options and buy-able items since MS took fully over. I loved it on PS4, have it on Switch as well. Might try to get back into it soon!
