A new Doctor Who adventure is coming to the Nintendo Switch, it has been announced.
It's in development at Doctor Who: The Edge of Time studio Maze Theory (but it won't be in VR), and is also coming to PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It doesn't have a firm title at present, but is expected to arrive in 2021.
Along with the aforementioned VR game and a new mobile outing – in development at Kaigan Games – this new title will help form a "trilogy of experiences" based around the popular time-skipping alien.
In case you're getting too excited, it's worth noting that our friends over at Push Square didn't think much to Edge of Time, stating that "If you're a real Doctor Who aficionado, you may find some enjoyment here, but otherwise, this is a waste of your precious time," before awarding it an underwhelming 4/10.
Perhaps Maze Theory will be able to redeem itself with this new title?

Sweet. Hope it’s good!
As a long term doctor who nut, I am contractually obligated to be excited, regardless of eventual quality, though if it actually good, even better!
Why would the same studio come back to make the same property after a lackluster effort from over a decade later?
So for my bday which is on May 31! Inam getting a Jet Black GameCube with a 251 memory card Arctic Glacier GBA a GBA/GC link cable Pokemon Sapphire Pokemon Colessium and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. My Summer is going to packed with Nintendo goodness!
@majkdaryn I'm going to be 34 this year!
Pokemon, Pokemon Trainers, Pokemon are the champions!
@majkdaryn Colosseum was awesome, I have so many fond memories of playing it as a child.
To this day, obtaining the "secret" Ho-oh in that game is still one of my proudest accomplishments 😎
Just kidding...I hope 😂
This will be my first time so I look for good fun. Ho-oh is a formidable Pokemon. It's not easy catch!
I was hoping Eternity Clock was getting a Switch port.
@damo I'm confused. Is this announcing a brand new game or a port in the works?
@Captain_Toad The Edge of Time only came out last year.
YOU ARE AN ENEMY OF THE DALEKS! YOU MUST BE DESTROYED! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!
@Captain_Toad It's a job, they need work?
I'd buy a full Lego Doctor Who game in a heartbeat. Or a set of Doctor Who minifigures irl.
Have there been any good Doctor Who games? I feel like it's translated fairly well to every medium except games.
@nuovian @hadrian Oops, I mistook that for the Wii game Doctor Who: Return to Earth. That was made by a different studio.
@hadrian Whichever the case, they better do a good job.
Wasn't even aware this other VR game existed. Ashame it isn't that great. But I would love a great third person, action-adventure Doctor Who game where you can play as different regenerations of The Doctor through various periods in the show's history. Would be fun.
@Captain_Toad Wow. Didn't know there was a Wii game. Shows you how much I pay attention, lol.
I was pretty into Dr. Who for a good while. I liked up to the Matt Smith incarnation. After that I kinda dropped off. Might have to revisit sometime... maybe.
Dr. Who is a franchise that SCREAMS for more video games. It's a right shame there's only been a handful and none have apparently been very good.
I would have killed for a TellTale Dr. Who before they imploded.
The cool thing about a Dr. Who game is that you could have different portions of the game with different Doctors. Obviously you don't need to have the original actors in game form! I could even see a really well done game changing the playstyle from Doctor to Doctor. Imagine, one Doctor you have a platforming section, then another you have a mystery to solve, followed by another where it's a touch of horror, and another that's a survival/escape section! Heck, you could even put in a shooter section with the "War Doctor" and cover a portion of the time wars!
@Heavyarms55 honestly I’d just need some quality weeping angel horror sections and I’d be ecstatic. If they could work in the vashta nerada, all the better.
Careful now, certain fans of the current direction might call you "sexist pigs" for calling Edge of Time a bad game.
FYI, I think Jodie's fine as the Doctor, its just the current writing team that's put me off the show till they get replaced.
Can't be any worse that Return to Earth back on the Wii
Also i hope it's like the old Doctor Who Adventure Games that was released on P.C during Matt Smiths run, they were fun, sad you can't play them anymore though
If it’s got the current incarnation of the woke infested Dr , I won’t waste my time , I’ll stick to Tetris.....🤪🤪
Hmm, I will wait for more details but I would love a Doctor Who game that was actually good.
@Vonsparrow FFS here we go...
I've adored this show since I was a toddler in the late 70s and still never miss an episode and buy all the box sets. However, I have never enjoyed a single Dr Who video game in that entire time. I think 6/10 might be a record setting goal for Dr Who game quality. It's like a curse. I would love to see it broken but I'm not getting my hopes up.
@ZeldaFanboy78 oh, I have dreamed of such a game.
@RainbowGazelle oh, good point. I forgot the Lego Dimensions Dr Who content was actually REALLY GOOD.
BBC- we are a public service, owned and funded by the British people, free from commercial and political interest. Give us money or we'll fine you or send you to prison.
BBC- Buy our Dr Who video game, Blueray and merch.
British people- Do we get a cut of the profits?
BBC- No that's mine...
BBC- But you must still give us money or we'll take you to court.
If they had any sense they wouldn't just focus on the current Doctor but have multiple playable Doctors in this game not only would it make for a interesting story but it would also appeal to a larger audience
Plus it would allow different game play elements as each Doctor had their iwn strengths
I wonder if this game will have anything to do with the Time Lord Victorious multi media story arc there doing at the end of the year.
I've played a little of the LEGO Dimensions Doctor Who game. It was really good. I really hope they do a full LEGO Doctor Who game one day. I know the people at TT Games are interested in doing one. They just need the BBC to green light it.
