Yet another month has flown by (and a whole other week at this point), and there were plenty of cracking games flooding onto the Switch's eShop over that time.
These awards aim to celebrate the best of Nintendo's digital store, giving some love and attention to the games that could so easily be missed in the Switch's ever-growing library.
So, let's get started! Here are the best Switch eShop games of February 2020!
Honourable Mentions:
While these titles didn't quite make our top three this month, they're still certainly worth checking out.
- Metro 2033 Redux | Review: 9/10
- Bloodroots | Review: 8/10
- SEGA AGES Sonic The Hedgehog 2 | Review: 8/10
- Metro: Last Light Redux | Review: 8/10
- Knights and Bikes | Review: 8/10
- EQQO | Review: 8/10
- Hero must die. again | Review: 7/10
- Vitamin Connection | Review: 7/10
- The Turing Test | Review: 7/10
3. Warface (Switch eShop)
Taking third spot this month is Warface, a first-person shooter which launched on the Switch eShop out of nowhere last month. The game might not be as polished as the AAA shooters skipping Switch, but it does offer solid asymmetrical online FPS action to Switch in a way that no other shooter has managed thus far.
If you're looking for a new online shooter to try, it really wouldn't hurt to give this a chance - did we mention it's free?
2. Double Dragon & Kunio-kun Retro Brawler Bundle (Switch eShop)
The retro fans amongst the Nintendo Life team fell in love with Double Dragon & Kunio-kun Retro Brawler Bundle this month, sending it into second place in our round-up. In our review, we praised the collection's local multiplayer shenanigans, truly impressive quality of life improvements and plenty more besides.
If you're concerned about this one being a cheap, quick compilation of old ROMS, think again; it goes well beyond this thanks to proper curation of the source material and is well worth checking out.
1. Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition (Switch eShop)
Taking first place this month is Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition, a special edition release of Devil May Cry 3 on Switch - what do you mean, 'the title already gave that away'? While it's definitely aged in places, we found that the game's turbo-charged, combo-heavy action feels as fresh today as it did back in 2005 when we checked it out for review.
If you're yet to experience Devil May Cry 3 in any form, we heartily recommend giving this Switch port a chance, and its new Freestyle mode - which lets players swap combat styles on the fly at any point during the action - might just entice those who have played it before, too.
< Nintendo Life eShop Selects - January 2019
How we decide our eShop Selects top three: As we reach the end of every month, the Nintendo Life staff vote on their favourite titles from a list of games selected by the editorial team. To qualify for this list, these games must have been released primarily as a digital Nintendo Switch eShop title in that particular month, and must have been reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select the qualifying games based on their review scores.
Staff are then asked to vote for three games that they think deserve to sit right at the very top of that list; first choice gets 3 points, second choice gets 2 points, and third choice gets 1 point. These votes are then tallied to create a top three list, with the overall winner taking that month's top prize.

I pity people who see this list as old, ported games that have ceased to be worth playing.
No Two Point Hospital? Really? Looking at the review (9/10) I thought you loved it... Weird.
Old ported games....
Yet fun games , but a better mix of old and new would be appreciated.
@the_beaver Two point hospital is a retail release so doesn't qualify for this list.
I haven't gotten around to playing any eShop games lately as I've been too busy with the Atelier Dusk Trilogy and Snack World but there's a few that I'm interested in playing at some point.
I've been pretty tempted to get the physical version of the Metro games (I wouldn't really consider them 'eShop' titles) but I've been holding out for now. If it gets cheaper at some point I'll probably grab it or if not then oh well.
@PanurgeJr and i pity people who are still clinging onto these games because their the only thing the Switch gets.
Aside from Metro, the rest of these games are gimped hack jobs.
DMC 3 is a joke. It comes with the first two games and all 3 are a digital code.
So basically you spend money on these old ass ports and then you use 50 gigs to house them all because Crapcom can't port games.
Don't even get me started on the other rubbish on this list.
We are being starved of games again and only a fool would think otherwise now. Nintendo needs to secure more 3rd party support to fill these gaps in.
Ports of better games like the other Dark Souls games or reaching out to Rockstar won't be a bad idea either. We need more than shoddy indie games and 10+ year old ports to fill in the gaps.
Last decent port we got thats done well is Witcher 3... great game but that was nearly 5 months ago now.
Didn't buy anything this month as trying to clear backlog before Crossing consumes me.
Would be interested in Double Dragon if it had the arcade version...
@chardir so is the Metro double pack
@Gwynbleidd no Capcom doesn't know how to port games to the Switch properly so its hard to recommend anything they do.
@Gwynbleidd it's a physical release is why it wasn't on the list. But it was definitely in my top 2 for February either way 😊.
And I wouldn't think metro would be eligible since that's physical as well.
I loved dmc3, so I'm good with this. Except the last two boss fights 😉.
@nmanifold I guess it's because you can only get the Metro games as a double pack, individually they're eshop only...?
@chardir Well, Metro Redux is there, so it's kinda confusing.
Heaven Dust is right up there for me. Its a bit like Resident evil in the graphical style of Sexy Brutale. Really loved it. Quenched my survival horror thirst til Resi 3 arrives.
I urge people to check out Underhero. Put crudely, it's Undertale meets Paper Mario. Absolutely love it.
@Gwynbleidd no worries at all
@chardir metro is retail too
@cmk8 that was already released on Switch as part of the Arcade Archives Collection: Double Dragon Arcade Version
@Razer And I pity people who are so miserable that they mock other people for actually liking their hobbies.
@Auenegheps @the_beaver @nmanifold I guess that's individual release vs the double pack. Meh, they're not my rules...
@fluggy ive been eyeing heaven dust. So it actually is good huh? How long is a play through ?
@PanurgeJr I'm just calling it how i see it. You are throwing shade at people for being annoyed at what little that's coming to the Switch.
It's easy to point at you for bothering to say something in the first place.
I don't CARE that you are getting enjoyment out of these games but your first comment on here indicates that people who don't like whats coming to the Switch bothers you.
It's hypocrisy at it's finest. You can be content with the bottom of the barrel dregs we are getting but those of us who are not, are also not allowed to voice our dissatisfaction in fear of hurting your feelings?
Give me a break.
@NintendoByNature read reviews saying it took an hour to finish which I highly doubt ... Took me 5-6 hrs. Well worth £5.
@fluggy good to know. I might check it out in the near future.
Knights and Bikes ftw.
The game drought continues. The last 4 games i bought were all ports. Minecraft and rayman for the kids and secret of mana collection and witcher 3 for me.
Good games for sure but literally nothing interests me on switch roght now, when will there be something new?
No Rune Factory 4 Special? You all take that back
@bolt05 That's how I feel about my PS4, last game I bought was horizon. Still waiting on something good.
No Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection? Imo, that beats every game on this list. (The others are great though)
@Razer I mean it’s not as dire as you make it seem. Even if you don’t have a backlog there has been a very good port of Metro, Kentucky Route Zero (one of the groundbreaking games this decade), Two Point Hospital (if you like building sims), a good major RPG release with TMS, an okay port of the newest Samurai Shodown, bloody good fun with Bloodroots, the newest Darksiders spin-off, an above average port of DMC 3 that will eventually be 15 bucks in a Capcom sale...
Along with a new content rich AC game, The Outer Worlds, and an eventual release of Doom Eternal.
It’s leagues ahead on Switch compared to previous Nintendo consoles. I think at least.
Original doom for me. Amazing
Goblin Sword is fantastic!
@sandman89 OG Doom is just timeless. I like throwing it on every now and then and seeing how far I can get on one life...
@WiltonRoots think I prefer it to Doom 2016
