Another busy week has been and gone, this time bringing with it hints at SNES games coming to Switch and the revelation that Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma teased the upcoming Zelda: Link's Awakening remake years ago! Well...
As we've finally reached the weekend, it's time once again to sit back, relax, and chat about our gaming plans. We've done that below and we'd love for you to get involved via our poll and comment sections below. Enjoy!

Following our list of the Top 50 Nintendo DS games last weekend, I ended up hitting eBay in the dead of night and landing myself a very reasonably priced cherry DSi XL to compliment my white DS Lite. It came with a few games, but I’ll probably give Club Penguin and Dora’s Cooking Club a miss. Instead, I plan to sit down with Elite Beat Agents and one of the Zeldas. I know the DS Zeldas aren’t the most popular, but I’ve got a real soft spot for Spirit Tracks and its excellent soundtrack.
I also have Chrono Trigger sitting unplayed on the shelf, but that’s a bit too ambitious for my hour or two of free time. One day, one day…

The other day, I dug into my old 3DS library and suddenly remembered that I had a long-forgotten backlog of semi-completed games on that system, as well... This weekend, I have resolved to go back to the wonderful world of dual-screen action and tackle them, because they came before the Switch, and I’m a fan of chronology. Bear in mind, many of these games were purchased in my youth - and more nostalgic than cool now. Top of the list are Ocarina of Time 3D; Super Mario 3D Land; Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon; and Pokémon Moon, X and Alpha Sapphire. Should be a decent walk down memory lane before the deluge of new Switch releases begins next month!

Part of me has been missing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate recently - I don't think I've really played it at all over the last few months - so I might spend just a little bit of time jumping into some online games to get completely annihilated.
Elsewhere, my partner and I have been looking for a co-op RPG adventure to play together, without all that much success. Essentially, I'm thinking Zelda: Breath of the Wild but in co-op all the way through, where both of you can level up, adventure and so forth and keep your stats throughout, but without the entire system being stupidly deep and challenging for someone new to the genre. A Push Square friend recommended The Swords of Ditto: Mormo's Curse - so that might be our best bet - but any other ideas are very welcome!

The Summer of Switch is at last entering the final, long stretch and I can’t recall a time in my life as a gamer that I leave you all with such a luxurious backlog in my luggage. That’s right, another 11 months collaborating with Nintendo Life have come to pass and this weekend will be a rather long one for yours truly.
I usually fall back to retro gaming during this time of year, but I doubt I will be able to do so this time since I’m deeply invested in Fire Emblem: Three Houses' storyline, the sublime Astral Chain is right around the corner, plus Daemon X Machina is already lurking ahead to take over my life.
My game of the week is YOU! Yes, you, Nintendo Life community member who appreciates all the hard work me and the rest of the gang put on the table every single day to bring you the latest, greatest Nintendo happenings. We will probably meet again around the time Link decides to wake up...
[Thanks for all your hard work, Shiryu! See you when you get back from your hols! -- Ed]

This weekend I’m planning to spend more time with Fire Emblem: Three Houses. In between this, I’ll likely be playing the same lot of games I’ve been enjoying now for the past few months. These titles include Super Mario Maker 2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.
I could probably spend a good six months on each of these titles, but unfortunately, I find myself trying to play the lot of them all at once. It’s going to become even more difficult when Astral Chain arrives at the end of August.

If I started Fire Emblem Three Houses now there's no chance I'd have it finished by Astral Chain launch so I'm focusing on backlog instead. NSMBU Deluxe, Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition and maybe the Crash Trilogy.
Super mario galaxy 2 strangely enough.
Starting to show its age graphically but still a fantastic game
This weekend i'm in the mood for kiddie NDS games. 🤓
I played these games :
1. Hi Hamtaro! Ham Ham Challenge
I have played this Kindergarten game for 3 hours 11 minutes according to my New 3DS XL play time history.
I have collected a lot of cards from playing mini games and gave presents to some Hamsters over there.
2. Ochaken no Heya DS 4
Keep collecting the furnitures, so far have collected 160 from 500 furnitures.
On Switch I'm hooked on Doom (1993) and Marvel Ultimate Alliance at the moment.
However Train Sim World 2020 is out and is a free update to existing TSW owners. There's also a new route so TSW will see a lot of action this weekend!
I'm working over my oldest switch games before i tuck back into the ridiculous backlog and try and figure out which to buy first from SMM2, Astral Chain, Link's Awakening, The Witcher and Wolfenstein...
...so it's Mario + Rabbids (still got a world to do and a bunch of challenges) and the Zelda BOTW DLC along with getting that 'true' ending!
Still slowly making my way through all the routes in Clannad. Such a great game.
@Anti-Matter : Have you tried Reader Rabbit Kindergarten on DS?
Much recommendation.
@Silly_G
Oh, i don't have that game.
Well, i will check that game from Youtube first.
Mostly Tiny Metal:FMR with a bit of Young blood here and there. Been getting a bit of a BoTW itch lately, though. Might be time for playthrough number three...
Been in the mood this past week to play Sonic Riders, so I think I will boot up the GameCube this weekend. Also, playing CS:GO yesterday got me back into Counter-Strike, so I think I'll play CS:GO on PC as well. Not sure about playing anything else though.
Just finished Amnesia the Dark Descent, which was atmospheric but overall slightly disappointing after all the goods things I'd heard about it.
Next, some Skies of Arcadia, Secret of Mana and Yakuza Zero!
This weekend I will play on my PS Classic and I will play WoW.
I have to test what games run okay on the PS Classic.
Final Fantasy XIV and Nioh on PC.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses on Switch.
Metal Gear Solid 2 on PS3.
Lapis x Labyrinth on Switch. Might complete it this weekend. Will also be sneaking in a bit of RPG Maker on 3DS.
@skulltulips I was glad I put in the extra time to get that "true" ending. Enjoy!
Some Diablo 3 couch coop with friends, to finish the season properly. After that, I'll be back with Fire Emblem Three Houses while waiting Oninaki physical preorder coming next week.
Just started new Super Mario bros u deluxe. I hate it.
Just finished Fe, a very good (old) switch game. I understand the reviews, but I think the good visuals and interesting game play more than made up for the shortness and other technical issues. I would give it an 8.
Mario Maker 2! After making 6 levels and playing dozens on line, I may be slowing down with this game. It is still a great game.
Rise: new rally racing game. Great visuals, good UI. The controls, for me, feel floaty but, with about an hour of practice I am now conquering turns well. Since Grid has not come out, this will be my racing game for a while.
Happy gaming, everyone!
Trying to finish red dead redemption II on ps4 this weekend. Want to clear some of my backlog before Links Awakening next month.
No time for games this weekend 😢
Hope everyone has a good one
Three Houses as much as I can. Ridiculously fun game.
The bulk of my gaming life has been taken up by FE3H but I've found a love for DK tropical freeze after not being able to get in to it since owning it from release. May try and fire up the wiiU and do a little metroid prime but I'm struggling with the motion control and I'm only up to the big plant boss.
Rimworld and if i can drag myself off that some randomized heartgold
Finally picked up Gris on sale and man, what a gorgeous experience so far... I’m just an hour in and I already feel I’ve gotten my money’s worth and then some.
That and more Mario Odyssey with my wife. We play that one to de-stress, which is necessary more and more often these days!
Also really enjoying Vasara Collection. Damn good fun, that one! And my first shmup experience on the Switch. Any recommendations for more? I’d be into the more user-friendly games, not the ultra-difficult ones.
Happy weekend all and happy gaming!
Second playthrough of Fire Emblem, this time on the Golden Deer route.
I'm in love with this game.
I’ve ‘finished’ marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 in that I’ve finished the story a few times and unlocked all of the characters including the secret ones. I’ve got a handful of story levels to finish in Mario maker 2, I’ve went off crash tram racing as I’m a bit of a completionist. Considering buying fire emblem three houses but not sure
I'm going to try to complete pong on Atari 2600 then beer belly burts brew biz on Atari 800xl followed by a bit of montezuma's revenge
This week I will be mostly playing
Smash Ultimate
Breath of the Wild
And last night I finished off Fullblox, so that probably counts too
@Anti-Matter The Hamtaro series is nothing short of adorable. I've played Heartbreak and Rainbow Rescue and found the former rather delightful. I'd love to have a babble about cute games sometime
As for my weekend, looks like it'll be Animal Crossing New Leaf dailies + turnip business, and Story of Seasons so nothing new or exciting to report. Not sure if co-op buddy will reel me into any multiplayer things, guy's been busy.
As someone who played Atari as a child (though it was already long outdated back then) seeing 3DS games being called "nostalgic" and youth purchases just makes me feel old... that being said, have a nice weekend everyone, and happy gaming!
My wife picked me up Dragon Quest Builders 2, which I expected to find underwhelming, but I'm absolutely loving it! Sure, it holds your hand like no other game (it is really just one request quest after another), but it is also packed full of charm, great characters, and some very amusing dialogue. Am currently on the mining island, which has been a blast so far, with some hilarious dialogue. Will also be checking out Slipknot's new album... whilst hoovering. 😊
Last week I bought The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass for the DS on the Wii u virtual console. The virtual console allows many ways to play a DS game. The option I prefer is to use the GamePad to mimic the lower screen of the DS and my TV for the upper screen of the DS; as well as visual option turned ON to smooth the graphics.
Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled
and maybe a little Starlink.
@USWITCH64
Wait... Pong can be completed? Or do you just mean scoring 11? Genuinely intrigued! 😆
Probably Smash and OG Doom on Sunday. Out all day today.
@Ooyah no was trying to be ironic 🙌
Hoping to finish Doom 3 this weekend - first time I’ve ever played a FPS game al the way through. I’ve loved it but looking forward to finishing it now.
Once that’s done I’ll be playing Blossom Tales for a lovely change of gaming style
I started a new file to play the main story of Mario + Rabbits. I don't want overwrite the other file since I managed to clear one of the ultimate challenges. Basically killing the time until a certain dragon come to the Switch
@USWITCH64
Ah... tee hee! You had me going! 😆
Playing some older games this weekend.
Digimon world (PS1)
Heroes of might & Magic III (pc)
Skyrim (switch)
Completed mutant year zero, now playing seeds of evil(DLC). Will play albeit of FM3Houses & Ps4(nioh)
1. Fire emblem
2. Madden20
3 The division 2
Raining, so playing mostly online with the Fam.
Always a little Mario maker 2. A few maps in doom 2. And my big one is marvel ultimate alliance 3. I'm on the final mission so I should have it completed today. Once i finish it, I'm struggling to decide if i should start on final fantasy adventure, crash Bandicoot 2, or mega man 11. With the upcoming nindies, I may want to have a clean slate for any shadow drops
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and Fire Emblem 3 Houses
Not sure. Doom ( the first one), or Xenoblade Chronicles 2 new game plus, or the Torna expansion.
I'm still playing the same game I was last weekend, Doom 3, but now I've finished the main game and am working my way through the Resurrection of Evil expansion. I've also got a copy of Atari Flashback Classics coming in the mail today so I know there's some Asteroids and Millipede in my near future. =)
@flarocque Have never tried DS games on Wii U virtual console and your comment is making me want to give it a go. Sounds good.
"I AM TUROK" Am playing the first Turok game on Switch. The game used to make me feel ill but now I've turned the head bobbing off it's much better. On level four of eight and enjoying it. Also a bit of Smash for the spirit event.
Still making levels on Mario Maker 2 and playing other people's creations. In between I'll be playing some Turok 2 as well
Might play a bit of Smash and Fire Emblem this weekend, but my main focus will be SMT: Digital Devil Saga.
Just picked up Gris in the latest sale, so I'm looking forward to getting into that! Played it a bit last night and it's already breathtaking.
I’m about 35 hours deep into Persona 4 Golden now. It feels like I’m nearing the end but I’m probably barely halfway through.
I’ll hopefully be done by the time Astral Chain drops so it’ll be that or Fire Emblem next.
Mario Kart 64 (N64) - Beating all the cups today with the kids.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified (Vita) - I'm sure there will more TDM over the weekend as the Wife/Kids hog the Living Room tv.
Microsoft Flight (Games For Windows) - Watching this Let's Play has been getting me ready for the upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator on the Windows Store.
Cut the Rope (Android) - Been hankering to have another go at this, I should track down the 3DS version one of these days.
@Ralizah I need a handheld ps2 so I can get around to playing my copies of SMT Digital Devil Saga and Nocturne.
Switch ports would be nice whilst we await SMTV. But I know not to hold any hopes there.
Nothing. I need a new game but dont know what to get.
I'm clocking some serious hours in Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet. Getting some serious PSO vibes from this. Takes me back to high school.
I'm playing random battles on Smash Ultimate right now to try out more characters. Coincidentally, I did play some Chrono Trigger this morning...
Aside from that, I've just finished Dragon Quest II on NES, and I've started on III. I've got a long way to go before I'm ready for XI...
@JoeDiddley The fact that Atlus never remastered more be of their classic PS2 JRPGs for the Vita is such a missed opportunity! I'd also prefer Switch ports, but, yeah, that ain't happening.
SMT V is, though, and I'm on figurative pins and needles waiting for it.
I've had to restart my DQB2 after messing up the placement of the (artificial?), Deitree. The game started looping with no tangible way of fixing. The plus side, is that I've levelled the land for the village and it's now bigger!
@1UP_MARIO
Your not alone
In the midst of another busy weekend, I'll be playing more Dragon Quest IV this morning at the very least (I've just barely started chapter 5) and playing more SteamWorld Heist when I'm up for it. I've found that I don't enjoy Heist quite as much as SteamWorld Dig, but it does have some strengths over the other game.
As usual, there will be a little Pokemon Go this weekend, but I'll unfortunately miss the Suicine raids later.
Happy gaming! Hopefully the weather is nicer in your neck of the woods, dear reader; it's storming pretty heavily here right now.
I am halfway through my second playthrough of Fire Emblem. I am a blue Lion, and playing as. Black Eagle is tough. I hope I can oppose Edelgard in a meaningful way
I’m tired of waiting for Metal Gear Solid on Switch, so I ordered the Legacy Collection for PS3. I’ve missed these games. Snake Eater is one of my favorite games ever (I LOVE the ending of the story) and that microwave tunnel in Guns of the Patriots... love these games.
My joycon started drifting pretty badly so it looks like the Switch is currently out of order.
I kicked the morning off, with some Mortal Kombat XL, it's been a while since I've played it, and I was in the mood for a fighting game, so it works. As for later on today, I'll be spending an hour or two, playing Pokemon Go, due to the Suicine raid event that will be happening from 4 to 7 pm. Besides that, I might take the time to dive back into the Crash N' Sane Trilogy, I've played through the first game, but I've yet to touch the other two games.
WipeOut Omega Collection and Sniper Elite 4 for me. Just got them on PSPlus.
Friday the 13th, mortal kombat 11 & turok 2. my switch catalog is huge right now. awaiting on link's awakening, tetris 99 and star wars pinball in sept.
RaceDieRun - if you recall Race The Sun this is it again!! Repackaged but still a great arcade game that will test your skills of co ordination.
7/10
I've been having a blast going through my GBA collection on my newly aquired GB Player.
Thus far I've done a 100% run of Mega Man Zero 3 and got the best (non-item based) ending in Metroid Zero Mission's hard mode.
Something that is rather strange is that even after beating MZM's hard mode, I still got the same ending picture that you get on normal mode even though the sound-test unlocked like it should when you beat hard mode. Is my copy a bootleg or are there versions of the game out there without hard-exclusive endings?
Edit: It turns out that hard mode only has unique endings for 100% sub-2 hour speedruns and 15% runs, so that's why my any% run didn't net me a different image. So I guess that I unboxed my new copy to see if it was any different for no reason. Oh well, at least I got to improve on my speedrun times...
Doom 64 on my 64. It’s blown me away how awesome it is! A real forgotten gem
I’ll be continuing Youngblood and maybe some more Celeste since I haven’t finished yet.
I'll be playing more Songbird Symphony, what a cute and meaningful game. The music is great, the story is well written, the game is challenging but not punishing. I really am enjoying the game.
I also hope to get another game or two of Super Mega Baseball 2 in as well. I didn't like the game on the Xbox one for some reason, but I'm really enjoying it on the Switch. Maybe because it has a classic Nintendo feel, maybe because it just controls better on the Switch? I don't know, but I'm loving it!
Working on a Mario Maker 2 level where you use the propeller to jump over wigglers with stacks of chompers as tall hats. Probably won't have time tomorrow to do much more than finish my level.
Crash team racing, bloodstained, and doom 3
Almost done with my second playthrough of Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Golden Deers), hopefully I can at least finish the Blue Lions route before Astral Chain comes.
Childhood came back for a visit with Grandia this weekend <3
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Mario Maker 2 and Batman Arkham City on PS4
I'll be finally starting Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 this weekend. Hero coming to Smash distracted me, then life got busy.
I'll have a ton of time this weekend and over this coming week to play it so I'm hoping to have it finished by the time Astral Chain releases.
Continuing to work through Revelations 2 and hyrule warriors as I can play them one handed.
Put WiiU to good use, exploring homebrewing it
Red Dead Redemption 2
I’m still playing and enjoying DOOM (classic) on my Switch, my son and nephew have been playing some Batman on Wii U, lots of Breath of the Wild, and Nintendo Labo: Robot. Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone.
Bought Friday the 13th, and its really good online. Give it a try
Well, No Man's Sky has taken my life again with its new BEYOND update. If I manage to break free of its grip, Prison Architect will also get some love.
Finishing Golf Story, DC online and Doom 2016.
I think I'm going to play some Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 on the Switch, Ninja Legends, Time Stall and Red Matter on the Quest.
FE naturally. For the empire!
Oh - Mark of the Ninja too. Love that game.
Resident Evil 4 - just reached the island. It's even better than I remember. I think I've spent many hours just watching the rifle and broken butterfly's reload animations!
Well, votes for SSB since Fire Emblem pretty much has become the standard for the rest of the waking hour
I had a Zelda itch to scratch so I am replaying Link Between Worlds on the 3DS. Awesome fun!
Pokémon Platinum for me. Maybe some Super Mario Odyssey if I get time Sunday. Bit of Pokémon Go today too.
Just got gris last night play a bit of it that game is just beautiful. Been trying to complete the bonus stages in mutant mudds. Also playing Pool panic, grip, and snowboarding the next phrase. Smash is always a given. I have a group chat with a bunch of friends and we just throw a room up. Also may check the eshop for more sales I'm willing to hear any recommendations.
I've got more Dragon Quest Builders 2 to work on, but I'll find time for Fire Emblem and Super Mario Maker 2 too.
I'll get back to Bastion and X7 of Megaman X Legacy Collection 2. I'll try to kick off Lightening Force, Framed, and/or In Between. I also messed around and picked up a PlayStation Classic for $15 and Starlink with the Arwing toy for $24 at Meijer. Debating about cracking them open or shelving them as collector's items in the future...
Switch: Senran Kagura Peach Ball, Smash
PS4: CTR and Shadow of the Tomb Raider
l will just stick with bunch of Persona games because l got nothing new on the switch, 3ds, and other.
psyvar...whatever that shooters called.
Holy Cow am I addicted to Fire Emblem Three Houses. I thought Fire Emblem Fates was mediocre and I never finished 1 path, nevermind the other 2... However this game is incredibly addicting. I'm grabbing it with every free minute I have
Fire Emblem, FFX and Splatoon 2 on Switch.
Really tempted to pick up a 2DS XL whilst they’re still cheap and easily available for all the Zelda games, Pokemon, Xenoblade 1 etc.
I’ve been hitting that MK 11....as well as my MK Arcade1Up machine. Just got the light up marquee installed and it I absolutely love it.
I got pretty tired of Slay the Spire (200+ hours...) and I wanted something in the same vein so I picked up Steamworld: Quest. I only played it for an hour or so before getting bored. Battles go on for too long, and re-spawning enemies are a pain. And the interface is annoying in various ways - e.g. why won't it tell me how much damage an attack will do? I'd need to do the mental math myself, multiplying stats just to figure out what is the most effective. I'm too lazy for that. I may or may not keep playing this one.
@mcdreamer you and me both. Regret selling my 3ds but it helped finance the Switch at the time
Grandia remake for Switch.
I hate to post stuff on here about other systems so I will keep quiet about those. I am playing through Dark Soul Remaster again(man this place is a ghost town) Some Super Mario Maker 2 and Doom 93 mostly.
i am hoping i can play my smash bros for the 3DS, but i cant find it so i'm hoping the lab boys can find it eventually.
