This week has been packed to the brim with exciting Pokémon news, angry Zelda fans, and pretty much everything in between, but we've finally reached the weekend. As such, it's time to relax, gather round, and chat about our weekend gaming plans. Feel free to read through our entries below, vote in our poll, and then tell us about your plans in the comments below. Enjoy!

A bit of a weird one for me this weekend, as I might end up spending any free time playing through demos rather than actual games.
The Cadence of Hyrule eShop demo has come just in time - I've been on the fence about buying it since it released so this should give me a chance to see whether or not I'd like it enough. Also, the Mario Tennis Aces Game Trials offer means I can get a proper look at the game's single-player content for the first time. Before it came out, I was feeling pretty hyped about the solo stuff, but then once it had released I just wasn't as interested. Let's see if it can persuade me into a purchase.

This weekend I plan to give the new Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker VR experience a go - and still plan to play a bit of Fire Emblem: Three Houses & Dragon Quest Builders 2, among some other standards I always have on hand (still trying to finish collecting all of the Korok seeds in Breath of the Wild, like the completionist I am…). Should be a fairly calm gaming weekend before the storm of late August/September hits!

While perusing the eShop sale I managed to snag both the Mutant Mudds Collection and Elevator...to the Moon! Turbo Champion’s Edition for considerably less than the price of a decent pint. I’ve played a little Mutant Mudds before on 3DS and the sci-fi comedy action of Elevator to the Moon caught my eye when it was announced back in February. It was originally a VR game, so it’ll be interesting to see how it holds up on Switch. The comedy of an Arnold Schwarzenegger soundalike screaming instructions at me was too tempting to pass up at an 89% discount.

Is the Summer of Switch the very best video game Summer ever? Why, yes it is if we consider the onslaught of new amazing games flooding the eShop. This weekend will be spent with Vasara Collection, #RaceDieRun, Subdivision Infinity DX, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, The Messenger, Fantasy Strike and whatever quick sessions of Dragon Ball FighterZ I can sneak into the rotation.
My game of the week is a bit of a cheat this time because it is not out yet: FAR: Lone Sails is an incredible, lonely and desolate journey I urge everyone not to skip upon release. I just can’t stop thinking about it and whatever the journey will throw at me next. Look forward to it!
Liam Doolan, news reporter
It’s more of the same for me this weekend. I’ll probably start off with some Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled and then move onto Super Mario Maker 2 or Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
There are a few fighting games in need of my attention as well. Of course, one of them is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the second is Dragon Ball FighterZ. Janemba was added in earlier this week, so I’ll definitely be trying him out at some point. I might even give the Mario Tennis Aces game trial a go if I get enough time.

Mostly Clannad and a little bit of Mario Maker.
Not really sure this weekend. I've recently got back into Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu, so maybe some of that in preparation of Sword and Shield. Other than that, I'll just make it up as I go along.
If I'm playing anything, it'll be backlog stuff (since I've already beaten Fire Emblem and Marvel UA3 from last month...). So that'll likely be Bayonetta 2, Toki Tori 3D, and Devil May Cry.
Another weekend of just XB1. If timing works out well I'll start Fire Emblem Three Houses next weekend or maybe I'll wait until after Astral Chain, haven't fully decided yet.
I have to take advantage of some free Mario Tennis Aces, I really enjoyed the demo, I think the full game free for a week will put a smile on my face. Oh yeah and some Smash too.
I have dropped Fire Emblem Three Houses so probably give Smash another go, some Cytus Alpha and then a little bit of F1 2019 on the PS4.
Hoping to beat (or getting close to beating) my 2nd path of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, after that I'll continue playing Super Mario Maker 2.
Am i the only one finally playing Doom 3 for the first time and loving it..?
Been on holiday so itching to get back to Fire Emblem!
Fire Emblem Will fight over my precious time with Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet which launched yesterday
Fire Emblem, Pillars of Eternity, and Wolfenstein.
Pillars of eternity for me. 😀
Downloaded the first three Dragon Quest games on IOS and having an absolute blast with them - hoping to finish them before Dragon Quest XI comes out on Switch!
Finished 1st playthrough of FE:3H (Blue Lions) and starting Super Neptunia RPG before taking on Black Eagles
Switch is kinda dead for me at the moment just waiting for zelda links awakening. So playing resi 2 on 64.
I’m doing the dishes and listening to MJ, but between my Switch and my sons, my kids are both playing Mario Tennis Aces as I type this, courtesy of the Game Trials scheme! Thanks Nintendo, you may get a purchase on at least one of our Switch, nice move. I’ve been playing too, very fun. Also some DOOM (1993), which I see is currently at number one in the eShop, and not just the digital only chart. I’m sure Bethesda will be delighted with the performance of all three DOOM games on Switch, if they were REALLY clever they’d do a promotion on DOOM 2016 too. Have a great weekend all.
This weekend will be bloodstained (underated game!!) On nightmare mode.
And for in berwebetween some Mario Maker 2.
Really on the fench on buying fire emblem though.
Never got into the other games, but this one got something that makes me interested but I dont know what it is.
Maybe its the hype people are creating for it?
Dunno.
Otherwise as always have a good weekend everyone!
I picked up Fe, an "old" switch game. Initial reviews made me doubt, but so far it is a great game.
Almost finished the story mode of Renegade GP and definitely playing Super Mario Maker 2.
I cannot say enough good stuff about Super Mario Maker 2.
Happy gaming everyone!
Final Fantasy 7.
(Enjoying it, but the entire game is like the worst part of Ocarina of Time (the rendered Town scenes) lol)
I'll see what the weekend brings; Animal Crossing NL and Story of Seasons are set in stone. As for multiplayer there might be some more Overcooked 2 (happy belated anniversary!), Minecraft, maybe Mario Tennis Aces. If I can manage to get off my butt I might also check out those demos for Oninaki and Cadence of Hyrule.
Have a great weekend, everyone, and happy gaming!
My heart is full of victory! Still working my way through Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 which i’m really digging.
Going to try to play the Mario Tennis Aces trial a little bit more and Sonic Battle on GBA. Also, going to try and squeeze in some Command & Conquer Generals on PC. That's about it.
I'll be playing Pillars of Eternity. It's my first contact with that kind of game.
Um...
1. Portal Knights (Switch & PS4)
Kinda clueless or not ready yet to build a whole town like on Youtube.
2 The Sims 4 (PS4)
3. Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu (Switch)
Super Mario Maker 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Just finished my Resident Evil 2 remake Claire A run on hardcore, which was excellent. Game of the year so far for me. Next on: rounding off GTA 5!
I've been trying to get into Fire Emblem but the game is such a complete train wreck from a rendering perspective it's proving difficult. The frame rate is a total mess, and the pixlelated, flat out ugly visuals are a huge turn off. They clearly overshot, assumed the Switch could do more than it actually can and it was too late to change. The game simply shouldn't have been released in its current state - it's amateurish to say the least.
Fortnite. Tier 25 atm. Was breezing through the objectives last week... not so much this week.
I reset Pokemon Ranch so I can get all of Haley’s trade Pokémon. Most of my originals I think I sent in wonder trade by mistake.
I did the stress test for World of Warcraft Classic yesterday. Just two weeks to go then goodbye life.
@Matthew010
Have you checked out the Serebii front page? If you’re in the UK you can get a Mewtwo code from Smyths.
All about Fire Emblem Three Houses these days. Almost 30 hours in and around half way through!
I've been totally addicted to Dragon Quest Builders 2. I believe I'm near to finishing Furrowfield island. It's just such an immersive experience, watching NPC's go about their business, the monster attacks on the base - repairing the base. The art style reminds me of Mario vs Rabbids.
This week I will be mostly playing
Breath of the Wild
Smash Ultimate
Fallblox (Stretchmo for the Americans)
Just picked up a bargain for Switch. A double pack featuring Child of Light & Valiant Hearts. Both are good games. Started Judgment on PS4. You can visit an arcade and play Virtua Fighter 5, Fighting Vipers, Space Harrier and more. Also continuing with hidden gem of the year A Plague Tale.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses (that so far is my GOTY), Super Mario Maker 2 and FF X.
@ramu-chan really? Maybe people just say it’s great because it’s fire emblem. Personally I wasn’t interested anyway.
@Quarth no problems with fire emblem?
I finished the GC version of Metroid Prime 2 Echoes for the first time this week. I was unsure of what to expect going in since my childhood experiences with the title were rough and I had only heard grueling tales of the difficulty of this particular entry since then.
Turns out it actually went really smoothly. I only ever died against the spider guardian and the final Dark Samus encounter and I never really got lost for long despite my insistence to not use the hint system, mostly because I always took my time to explore every time I got an upgrade that I remembered seeing a use for in previous areas.
Admittedly, Now that I have most of the franchise under my belt, I may actually like Echoes more than the original Prime simply because it feels more unique compared to other Metroid titles in regards to how you traverse its world and the visual and tonal themes it follows. Plus the combat difficulty level is pretty much exactly where I want it to be at, around the same level as something like Fusion and Samus Returns, just tough enough to not feel completely supplementary to the exploration. Though I will freely admit that the rushed development cycle certainly makes this installment far less polished compared to its predecessor, just not to the point where it outweighs the novelty of the uniqueness of what it tries to do.
@sandman89 Of course there are some problems with the framerate when running around the monastery and the graphics could have been better, but everything else I enjoy very much. The story, characters, gameplay, controls, quests, music, character design, voice acting, setting, etc.
I’m playing more Road Fighter, trying to break into the top 10 on High Score mode. Not sure I’ll manage it, though.
Also playing Grave Keeper. It’s frustrating in places, and the dialogue is woeful (“when you next encount him”), but I kinda like it.
I finished SageBush within 2 hours of downloading it. The story is decent, and it’s very atmospheric, but it’s also really short.
Lapis X Labyrinth for sure. Crazy, crazy game. I’m about 5 hours in and still not really got to grips with it.
Might play some Smash, getting an urge to try out the online.
Three Houses all weekend long. Well, starting right after I clean up my One House.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Penguin Wars, & maybe some Splatoon 2.
Wanted to try the Smash Ultimate tournament thing, but realized that I still haven't found a control method that makes the game playable for me.
Just picked up the physicals for horizon chase turbo, enter the gungeon, raiden v, and guacamelee collection. They're all pretty great so far so more of those.
Just downloaded Turok 2 with its 15% off at release discount. Looking forward to playing it once again, I will try and complete it this time. I also need to finish off Doom 3.
Fire Emblem 3 Houses and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 for the Switch. Street Fighter V and Samurai Shodown for PS4.
I finished Ultimate Alliance. So this weekend I’m going to play some Octopath.
Been playing Duck Hunt on the NES this morning, just about to get a few games in on Tetris 99 and then gonna finish playing X Multiply which was recently released on Hamster's Arcade Archives series.
@Fandabidozi Oh cool, thanks! We got the Pokéball Plus with the game and I let my sister claim Mew, hopefully she'll not be too disappointed if I claim Mewtwo!
Fighting games galore with a friend - SoulCalibur 6, Street Fighter Anniversary, Virtua Fighter 5: FS, etc.
Will be putting in some more hours into Fire Emblem tomorrow, around 30 hours in atm. Took some time off from it today and so knocked off Shantae Half-Genie Hero from backlog list. It took just over 8 hours with a 96% item completion. Meh, good enough for me. Also played some Shovel Knight and Kirby's Adventure.
Oh, and Link's Awakening. I want to finish my first play through before the remake hits.
Doom (Switch) - Got a crew together now for online so mostly this at night.
Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition - Starting on a new world with my son.
Microsoft Flight (Games For Windows) - Still working on a Let's Play.
Pokémon GO (Android) - This is really doing nothing for me...
Storm in a Teacup (Android) - Finally giving this a go.
@BANJO you not think it’s too bright looking?
I've been finding it incredibly difficult to pry myself away from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It's such a rewarding experience, and it's fantastic in handheld mode.
@McDanger you and me both! I took the Vita with me instead of the Switch
@sandman89 It does seem abit brighter. I actually prefere it overall over the N64 version. The fog is gone from the N64 version with cleaner crisper and more vibrant colours. The only downside is that it takes away the eerie feel...
Contemplating picking up the latest Tiny Metal and Forager from the eshop. Because I'm so short of stuff to play (aside, I'm really not).
@Murbs can't go wrong with a Vita for a travel fix. I took a Gameboy Micro to play Pokemon Leaf Green, but my 4 year old son hijacked it!
I'm working on the Dragon Quest series so I can get ready for XI on Switch. Currently on 2 on the NES, and from what I hear it's the hardest one. It does seem difficult so far just from grinding.
Gonna start on The Observer on Switch, Lion King on Game Boy (going to the movie tomorrow) and of course play a few games of Fortnite
@BenAV
Holy Hell. Clannad's out for the Switch? I honestly didn't know this.
@Narrator1 Yep. Japan has a physical copy with English support so I imported it. It's also available digitally in all regions.
This weekend is the first of three weekends this month that's occupied by a wedding (Who would've thought August was so popular for tying the knot?), which means that'll eat up a good chunk of my Saturday. My hope is to fit in more Dragon Quest IV (currently in the middle of chapter 4) and to start the amazing SteamWorld Heist on my Wii U. As usual, I'll also be fitting in some Pokemon Go at different points.
Have a great weekend!
@MartyFlan I got Doom 2 and 3 on launch day, those were a great surprise from Bethesda! Can't wait for DOOM Eternal! MJ forever!
I'll play DOOM 3, Wolfenstein Youngblood and Fortnite. I've also played yesterday Smash Bros online tournaments yesterday, very interesting. I'll try to play some more of that this weekend.
Working at my Black Eagles campaign in Fire Emblem 3H.
Might do another playthrough of Cadence of Hyrule since I've been itching to replay it.
Going to spend some more time with Hero in Smash. (Love that down B RNG-goodness)
And a bit of FF14 daily roulettes.
some combo of Fire Emblem: Three Houses and MUA 3 but working this weekend will make it more difficult and I do want to watch the Nationals/Mets series this weekend.
1. Fire emblem
2. Assassin's Creed Final Atlantis DLC
3. Madden 20
Persona 4 for the foreseeable it seems.
It’s such a great, but huge game.
Assassins Creed Odyssey,Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Horizon Chase Turbo for Ps4.
Octopath Traveller and The Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild for Switch.
Super Mega Baseball 2
I recently picked up The Hero DLC for Smash Ultimate. So i’ll be sinking my hours into some Smash Ultimate. And I recently picked up Cadence Of Hyrule. So i’ll be busy playing that. And I still haven’t found all 999 Power Moon’s in Mario Odyssey. So i’ll be busy with that.
@Sahnec I’m thinking about buying it. Should I? I just beat doom 1
Mario Tennis, Mario Maker 2, Stretchmo, Advance Wars DS, Cadence of Hyrule, and the awesome X-Multiply!
@Edu23XWiiU I am so excited for DOOM Eternal, I’m expecting big things from it! I’d never played any DOOM before 2016 came to Switch, believe it or not. So I’m enjoying DOOM 1993 for the very first time! I’m intrigued by DOOM 3 I think I’ll download that soon.
I’ll be continuing Wolfenstein Youngblood. Now that I’ve figured out how to set what mission I’m doing and am getting some good experience I’m making some headway. Still more challenging than New Colossus in my opinion but still enjoyable.
DC Universe Online love it
@BANJO just didn’t seem to be any real lighting effects from what I’ve seen. Loses the atmosphere 🤷♂️
games on the switch, nope not playing switch this time.
Mario maker 2 making some levels and now the still excellent Turok 2
@sandman89 Just played it some more. Yes I see what you mean, it does change the atmosphere. It's not a dealbraker though, still a great HD port luckily...
Some of my cousins are visiting from out of state this weekend so I'll be playing some Mario Kart with them!
Its gonna be Octopath Traveller for me for a long while yet
Pokémon Platinum, just started a new game. Holds up pretty well.
Also some Super Mario Odyssey.
Batman Arkham Asylum on PS4, Zelda OoT on the 3DS and a bit of Mario Maker 2
3 Houses, Turok 2 and Doom 3
Just finish Candace of Hyrule (and loved it). I'm having too much unexpected work this weekend, so really thinking I'll just start bloodstained and then start fire emblem. Really what to play the messager dlc, but I'll have to replay it all over first.
Which I could bring my switch to work.
Mario Tennis Aces for me, via the trial. My kids have played enough of it to decide it's our next family purchase.
After feeling that I cocked up a few of my builds in fire emblem I decided to start again after about the 10 hour mark. Now I know and understand a little more about the game I feel alot more comfortable with my decisions and schooling techniques so I will be leading the black eagles once again mixed up with a bit of Turok 2 and possibly Xenoblade 2.
PS4 - Judgment
Switch - Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order
I just finished a handful of indies over the past few weeks: pan pan, membrane, future grind, and the next penelope. Was thinking of buying grip while it's on sale. I always make room for some smash and still have a lot of indies in the backlog.
@Sahnec nope. I’m in the same boat. It’s my favourite FPS of all time so far (and the only one that doesn’t make me feel sick for some reason)
Doom 3 which I’m loving! Reminds me of resident evil 2 in that I’m nervous every time I turn a corner.
Also got the demos of Mario aces and cadence of hyrule as well as DC Online or whatever it’s called to have a go at.
For me it's Slay the Spire (finally unlocked every card and relic!), the Mario Tennis Aces tryout, Moonlighter and The Witness. Some smaller games, but I'll like the variety. Some progress in beating the backlog at least
Pillers of eternity.
Still waiting for the review of PoE to come up here, but given as it’s been more or less ignored by the site I’m not hopeful it will be soon, if at all.
Almost done "Wrecking Crew" and then I will be finished all the NES online games until Wednesday. Other than that worked my through finishing off my backlog on Switch and other consoles. Can't wait for Dragon Quest XI but Fire Emblem has really been calling out to me lately.
I think my backlog will be there for eternity.
Team sonic racing, CTR and some Mario kart.
Just continued playing Bravely Second after finishing Mario + Rabbits KB main story. Gotta said that Rabbid Peach's health recover is really handy 😊
Nothing for me. North American Taiko Conference!!!!
After the recent announcement of it being pulled from the eShop, I've played some Duck Tales Remastered on Wii U. Great little game, doesn't take long to complete but I've really enjoyed it. There's so much charm in having the proper voices from characters in the cartoon. Slight issues with controls at times but otherwise it's a great game, short but sweet.
Also playing Kirby Triple Deluxe on 3DS, great use of 3D and the levels are getting more interesting as I progress. Unique copy abilities too.
Finished Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush 100%, was really irritating getting everything, it's done now but never again - probably the hardest Kirby game I've played.
@ShaiHulud I second that.... so perfect ...so great... I beat all records and achievements. Totally worth it
The weekend was short and interupted by the resident office mouse, but I played through Darius II, Darius Gaiden, Strikers 1945, Strikers II, Strikers Plus, Aero Blasters 2, Aero Blasters 3, Gunbird, Gunbird 2, Blazing Star, Samurai Aces and Dragon Blaze (unlimited continues...).
Golf Story. I also think I'm going to try actually making a level in SMM instead of just playing them.
Doom 3, Fire Emblem, Oninaki demo (very good BTW)
I just bought Pitter Pot on PS4. It's from the same studio that brought us the amazing titles The Letter and the Perplexing Orb on the Wii U. But they've really upped their game, if you want to play what looks like a PS1 game on a PS4.
I've also been playing my Wii a lot lately. I'm determined to finally beat Indianapolis 500 Legends.
Took the switch round to a mates house, and three of us ended up playing tricky towers, nidhogg 2, towerfall and duck game for about six hours! Couch competitive- always amazes me how tense those games can get, although stick drift was starting to get used as a losing excuse. Happy weekend guys
Fire Emblem, Marvel UA3 and of course Warframe.
First playthrough done on Fire Emblem, I’ll hop back into Mario Maker 2 for a bit before I do another 50 hrs in Fire Emblem
*Started FE TH---Black Eagles
*Finished another Chapter in Valkyria Chronicles 4
*Playing more Xenoblade 1
After completing Cosmic Star Heroine last week (really fun game BTW) I have jumped into Resident Evil (1) this weekend.
About half way through it as I can tell and man it's GREAT! I have never played the series (not a huge fan of the spooky games) but thought the recent sale was as good of a time as any. I may have to grab the rest of them if they go on sale again as I heard they get better and better (until 5, haha).
Happy weekend everyone!
On PS4: Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Switch: More SSBU Classic Mode
Rented ACE COMBAT 7 on PS4 and bought YS VIII while it was on sale for Switch. They are both amazing and both dominating my weekend.
Trying to finish Torna after work. Want to complete it before getting properly into FE3H and MUA3 because it's been in my backlog for so long
Still fully addicted to Dragon Quest Builders 2. Put a ton of time into the campaign and enjoyed it (though a bit long winded in the end). Now I've turned my attention to the Isle of Awakening and the ideas/possibilities are endless!
A bit of Super Smash Bros for the 3DS so far. Hoping to find time to play another hour later on.
Steamworld Heist which I'm loving and a bit of mario tennis. Might pick starlink up today when i go into town. Also got FTL for my ipad which is addictive.
Mario tennis on switch.
Also Castlevania: The dracula x chronicles on psp.
Fire Emblem Three Houses on the Switch and Ninja Legends on the Quest.
For me, It's been doom 3 mostly. Last night I started my play through of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and loving it, way more than I thought I would. Of course, more Mario maker 2 to get my daily fix and maybe a few minutes of doom 2.
Youngblood and Doom 2.
@MartyFlan DOOM 3 is a totally different beast, much more survival horror based, but with an unique flavor. Awesome game as well!
@Mamabear Yes, it has a lot more stuff than The New Colossus, and it's really hard. I like that!
@Sahnec you are not the only one 😊. It's my first play through as well and I think im almost done. Just Got back from hell which I think is pretty far in the game. Maybe another hour or two for me?
Have been hooked on Automachef. Also some FE and DQB2
I am going to be playing Morphie's Law. I have been waiting for a price drop and it is on sale. It runs well and no online multiplayer issues.
@Mgene15 I think it's great! Definitely a different feel from Doom 1 but I enjoy the suspense and storyline more in Doom 3, for 10 bucks its a steal for sure.
