Still surprised by Final Fantasy IX. It looks amazing, so I'll be eyeing it as a potential future title.
Lots of stellar content this week! Undertale on sale too!
Started playing FF IX at lunch, my god it reminds me of the good ole days, with updated FMVs
I'm completely lost with all these Final Fantasy games. Is 9 any good? Are they HD remakes or ports of PS1/2 games.
Is FF7 the same as FF7 The zodiac age? I'm guessing X-2 is a full sequel to X! How are all the others linked? It all seems too confusing to ever get into!
Been playing Tetris 99 which is really fun and just started Nekopara Vol.2 tonight. Got Tokyo School Life ready to go after that. I'll probably grab Final Fantasy IX at some point as it's one of the ones I actually like but it's a little on the pricy side so I'll just watch list it for now.
One can preorder a free game, now. What a strange world we live in...
@Mossii IX is good. It's a port rather than a remake though, as is VII. X-2 is the sequel to X, both of which are remasters. Zodiac Age is the HD remaster of XII (12), not VII (7).
@Mossii
Yes 9 is a good game, shame about the borders (expecially as they are some sort of smudge on each side) 12 is the Zodiac Age and 12-2 is the only direct sequel, but is complete pants. 7 is in my top 3 games ever (with Golden and Persona 5). They are all standalone stories and well worth checking out, even at the slightly high price.
@misterMike No, the game is far from done so you only preorder the 1st chapter for free. In fact it's just to download it as soon it is available, in case you forget or something. It's still funny, though...
@Mossii
1.Every Final Fantasy Title is seporate from the others, only carrying similar themes if the Number in the title is different. (For Exsample: FF VII (7) and FF IX (9) are unrelated story wise.)
2. If the game has the same starting number, but a seporate Follow up Number, it is a sequil. (For Exsample: FF X (10) and FF X-2 are two different games, but FF X-2 is a sequil to FF X )
3. FF VII is in the process for getting an HD Remake, but for all we know it is years away and might even be Playstation Exclusive
4. FF VII (7) Zodiac Age doesn't exsist. Zodiac Age is the re-release of FF XII (12), the full title being FF XII Zodiac age.
Hopefully that helps a bit.
Already reached Lindblum in FFIX. This is my third time playing the game, however I'm willing to get all the ultimate weapons and beat all the bonus bosses this time around (bar Ozma).
So everyone is going to be grabbing Santa Tracker with that sweet discount right?
I already downloaded the Yoshi and Machina demos last night after the direct. The Captain Toad DLC will probably be bought as soon as I get home along with Undertale. FF9 is on my wishlist and I'll probably cave before the weekend.
Hopefully my wallet can survive for a week before pay day
@BenAV and @vanmunt Thank you for the clarification. Yes I mixed up VII (7) and XII (12) I should pay more attention.
Being pretty much a Nintendo only gamer I have missed out on all of these. I understand 7 is rated as one of the best games of all time, but it does look very dated now. I'm happy to play retro titles but the 8 bit and 16 bit seem to age better. Maybe it's just me.
I'll have to try one of them, I might just role a couple of dice and go with it! Lol
@Gedgenator Thank you, very helpful. 👍
@Mossii Final Fantasy flagships are distinguished by Roman numbers and are all separate games; as you've guessed, direct sequels like X-2 add an Arabic number to show as much.
VII and IX are ports with HD facelift and some QoL features added externally.
FFXII Zodiac Age is not a sequel (although that game had a sequel on Nintendo DS, subtitled "Revenant Wings" instead) but the HD remaster of what was already an updated re-release back in PS2 days. Meaning that the game was released again but with some tweaks and addendums on the same platform (it was the time before the age of DLCs and patches, after all ), and that's the version that we're getting in HD now.
FFX and X-2 are also HD remasters based on updated re-releases (well, at least X; I don't remember if X-2 had such "editions" on PS2 to begin with), the difference from XII is simply not having such a fancy name for the old re-release in question.
None of these games have remakes (as in, games remade from scratch with new tech and assets), although VII is supposed to get one... whenever Square Enix actually finishes it. Might be a PS5 title for all we know.
Hopefully that wasn't too clumsy an explanation.
Well on the one hand it's Valentine's Day and I said I'd make dinner for my girlfriend. Then again, there's a new multiplayer Tetris game out that I've basically already paid for... Hmmm.
@Mossii Yeah, I agree with you there. I think even at the time, FFVII looked pretty ugly, haha.
It's actually Hand of Fate 2: A Cold Hearth. atleast in here
@BenAV FFVII looks ugly, that's blasphemy!!
Bought the captain toad dlc and looking forward to it. Tetris 99 is addicting fun
@vanmunt That's what my eyes are telling me, yeah.
Syberia 3 physical is currently for purchase for just under £25 at a couple of retailers (incl. Amazon), so £31 for digital is still a bit much, especially as it's about £12 physical on PS4. I bought Switch physical before it becomes hard to find (and too expensive).
21 euro for ff9, ugh
I Hope Final Fantasy IX will get a physical release
Thinking of getting Undertale, it's been on my wishlist for a while now.
I'll say, I'd complain for the lack of discounted games in my wishlist, but then again I see this is still a great deal given I have bought many of these games under similar conditions.
I won't download Undertale, since it may be cheaper in the future.
I downloaded Semblance. I know its not a massive discount (and the game is huge memory-space wise), but I don't know if it will be much cheaper in the future. Besides it looks like a unique and fun game, and I wanted to support the developer (a south african developer, that's pretty cool).
Tetris 99, Yoshi demo, Daemon X Machina demo and Captain Toad DLC.
Daemon machina demo, too tired to play it last night.
FFIX on payday as I may have finished my current game by then
Tetris 99 is amazing, LOVING it! It’s one of my favorite games on switch currently.
That moment when there’s only 10 left and you’re all focussing to get one player down, and in the mean time you’re stressing out and hoping you’re not the one getting focused next.
Love it
Those Textis 99 beats...could listen to them all day.
@Mossii Funny you mention that because I consider Final Fantasy VI (16-bit, and last Final Fantasy on Super Nintendo) to be the very best game in the series, not VII. Final Fantasy VII starts out really strong, but once you leave Midgar, the story gets really random and the pacing is all over the place. And by the middle spot you realize you already played the best it had to offer. There’s also an out of nowhere, gut wrenching loss around that time that just reeks of bad design now.
@BenAV Actually, we were quite blown away with Final Fantasy VII’s visuals at the time. Especially the fully 3D battle scenes and the amazing particle effects for their time. The bosses felt humongous and the characters truly felt alive (before they were chibi-style sprites attacking the air, now they were actually running across the screen and slamming down a Buster Sword!). Also, it was amazing how some FMV cutscenes blended right into the gameplay, transitionless, (a feat Final Fantasy VIII would later perfect). The music of Final Fantasy VII is only second to the all-time masterpiece thst is FFVI’s ost, and the incredible soundtrack further enhanced our emotions with the modern militaristic/steampunk setting.
That said, even then we were perplexed why the character art style kept changing around; that’s easily something that has not aged well.
@Antraxx777 Guess I'm just speaking from the perspective of someone who's never been a big Final Fantasy fan. When I was a kid I thought it looked pretty ugly. Of course it's partly due to the technical limitations of the hardware they were using but it's also partly due to the style that they went with.
Everyone who doesn't vote Tetris 99 is a liar.
I have already downloaded Final Fantasy IX. It looks amazing!! <3
