We're used to seeing game releases getting delayed, so when the launch of a game gets brought forward it is truly a cause for celebration. The Square Enix Collective have announced today that their cinematic adventure Forgotton Anne will be landing on the Switch eShop on 9th November. That's a lot sooner than the last time we reported on the game, when it was planned to release on the Switch in 2019 at some point.
Forgotton Anne is a seamless animated adventure, focusing on a hidden dimension where all mislaid items from the human world - the odd socks, the lost letters, the missing toys - are sent to linger. It’s the job of the Forgotlings - creatures formed out of all of these missing items - to help the trapped Anne and Master Bonku find their way home.
Phil Elliott, Director of Indie Publishing at Square Enix seemed pleased as punch that they are able to share the game with eager Switch customers sooner rather than later:
I think I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been able to reach out and tell people that we’ve brought forward the launch of a game. It’s quite exciting to be able to bring ThroughLine Games’ beguiling anime adventure to Nintendo gamers ahead of schedule, especially given the number of requests we’ve had for a Nintendo Switch version ever since its debut earlier this year. Now we can deliver.
Alfred Nguyen, Creative Director and Co-founder of ThroughLine Games added:
A Nintendo Switch version was always something we had planned to bring to life, and it’s amazing that we can do this earlier than we expected. We think playing Forgotton Anne in handheld mode feels fantastic and should serve as a perfect match for the Nintendo Switch console’s fast expanding audience.
The game will launch on 9th November 2018 one the Switch eShop. For one week only, players can purchase the game at a 10% discount (regular price £15.99/$19.99/€19.99).

Just get on with the Final Fantasy Ports
I never thought I'd see the day when Square Enix releases a game ahead of schedule. Next thing you know Final Fantasy 7 will appear on a Nintendo console!
...wait a minute...
I can see why she was forgotten.
I didn't need anything else to buy.
But it looks interesting, and I'm going to.
so Square is making Castlevania type games now ???
Been looking forward to this... may have to get it next week to take advantage of that slight launch sale.
Will just wait for the eventual $5 Steam or CDKeys sale.
I'm usually a bit sceptical of accolades trailers that have quotes from seemingly random publications... but this looks pretty good, and they clearly just want to shout about any and all good feedback they received. Definitely one for the watchlist.
@jhewitt3476 Not really. It is more like a platformer/adventure game hybrid. And Square Enix is just the publisher. It was developped by ThroughLine Games, an independent studio from Denmark.
This is how Indy games should be published. If SquareEnix a AAA company is putting enough faith behind a project to publish the game under its banner it's bound to be good.
That game world must be filled with socks and keys. And pencils. But mostly socks.
I'm all over this. Looks like it tells a good mature story.
This looks really great! I hadn't even heard of this before, and sadly probably wouldn't have even watched the trailer had SquareEnix not been involved. Whew! It's too easy for amazing games to slip by on the Switch with the amount of them being released each week! (Though I'm definitely not complaining, keep em coming!)
Love it! Will hope for a physical copy.
this looks amazing
As soon as I'm done with RDR2.
Make that physical....
Reminds me of Spirited Away for some reason.
I didn't think this game was all that great, to be honest. I had been looking forward to it ever since it was announced, but when I played it on PC earlier this year I was left very disappointed. The game was caught between trying to be a choice-based adventure game and a cinematic platformer, but in the end it didn't do either all that well. The graphics and soundtrack were amazing, though!
Funny how people are hatin now on it but forget the Switch is portable which makes this all the more better for ThroughLine Games and Switch combo to get their franchise to more gamers. And I like them to come out with a Physical version that way it will get more Switch owners buying it. eShop isn't doing it for me now since I know they will eventually come out in Physical version. I use eShop to get DLC and updates.
@SwitchForce
Yep me too. I just bought a physical release of Slain. I want physical. I'm a gamer and collector.
@Switch-a-Roony eShop is for some games less but that means you better have a high capacity microSd to store those games and considering the higher microSd cost more but not like the past days. That is still a big expense eShop buyers forget that the more you buy the bigger your storage needs to be to hold those games. Digital makes less games to hold around but there is just something about Physical games that hasn't lost their appeal.
