Assassin's Creed Odyssey may still be a couple of days away from release, but that hasn't stopped the discovery of an adorable little easter egg within the game which relates to a certain open-world hero of Nintendo fame.
The folks over at Kotaku have stumbled across this adorable little find while exploring everything the new game has to offer. Naturally, if you don't want this to be spoiled, you might want to avoid reading the next paragraph or checking out the video below.
Should you wish to venture over to the middle of Pandora’s Cove, just off the coast of Malis, you should find a tiny, lone island close enough to swim over to. On the sand, there's a little fire, presumably set up by a recent traveller, but exploring just beyond that results in an awesome little discovery. Check it out for yourself down below.
Yes, climbing up behind this fire reveals a new area containing a circle of rocks and a cute little figure of a Korok from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Ubisoft has confirmed to Kotaku that it is indeed a reference to the game, presumably thanks to an element of inspiration taken from the title or as a nod of respect to a game which captured the hearts of many around the world in recent times.
If you'll be picking up Assassin's Creed Odyssey, make sure to find the Korok for yourself!

Now if it only were priced accordingly to what it is (a rental) instead of being full price I might be tempted to pick it up. As it is, it will never happen.
This is awesome! Can't wait to play this game!
Who else expected it to be a Mario Odyssey reference?
Just when you think you've found something cool it turns out it's another flippin' Korok...
I like how they used a white hood in the BotW footage.
Great, now how about bringing some titles in the series across to Switch?
I’ve still never played one of these games.
@justin233 I'm the same. I came close to buying ACIV on Wii U a few times but never did.
I'd love to see an "Easter Egg" from Ubi that says "Assassins Creed will be ported/developed for Nintendo Switch and will be release within the next 6 months".
What a wonderful reminder to people who only own an XB1 or PS4 that they can't play the best open world game of a generation, and for Switch only players that Assassin's Creed looks up to BOTW, but can't actually fit their game on a Switch cartridge.
Omg that is awesome! We need this on switch.
If this was on Switch i would get it, but as i don't use my PS4 now guess i will have to wait and hope.
I’m actually genuinely interested in this game regardless. The Greek history is very interesting.
The majority of the world does not have the bandwidth required to stream a game like this. I know I don't.
Physical, digital download, or get lost, Ubisoft.
Reminds me of the Mario joke in AC2. Guess there are some big Nintendo fans in Ubisoft's AC development studio(s)!
@maruse AC Odyssey is one of the few games released this year which is worth £50. It’s absolutely massive, rammed full of side quests and a 40+ hour story. It’s easily as big as Breath of the Wild.
What would you consider to be good value compared to that?!
This games looks insanely good and AAA. I know we don’t like the “renting” model but let’s face that t may be the only way to pull something LinkedIn this. I mean, this looks far better that any of the +30 gb games you can physically or digitally own on your Switch.
@RadioHedgeFund I don’t know if you’re aware but I’m referring to the cloud version for Switch that is available in Japan.
Are you OK paying the same price as the other consoles even if you are just renting the game for a determined amount of time?
If I’m paying the same price as the others I expect to be able to keep the game indefinitely, just like they do.
If it’s just a rental, then price it as a rental.
@aznable That's why it isn't available outside of Japan, and the very reason Ubisoft isn't even offering a streamed version in the rest of the world...
@Octane
Well when I think of games that connect well with the Japanese market, the AC franchise doesn't really come to mind.
An adorable port would be appreciated...
Well, this just guarantees I'll never find all the Koroks, ha ha!
@aznable I fail to see how that's relevant. Many Japanese games aren't popular in the west either, should they stop bringing them over? Streaming is the only way you'll be able to play this game on the Switch, and it's only possible in Japan, I don't see why they shouldn't offer the option.
I mean, I don't like digital games, and I don't like the idea of renting it (I hate the thought of an all digital future), but at least these games aren't full price. Quite a lot of people buy a game, play it and sell it. So this option should work for them, get it cheap and play it once or twice.
I'm glad I read the spoiler, I'd never have recognized it even if I found it.
But the clip of BotW....man that just made me remember how truly special that game was.....it brought it all back....
@Octane FWIW, Ubi is also doing a thing with Google with this game, streaming it through Chrome browser under some deal. Seems Ubi is really railroading to that all streamed future Yves wants so bad (well until it doesn't work well, anyway.)
...Can we get some older AC games ported to the switch Ubi? Anything pre Origins should be portable.
@Ryu_Niiyama I'm surprised they haven't tested the waters with the Ezio Collection.
There are now so many Koroks that they're starting to take over other games!
@maruse Don't forget u can only play it while u have internet so its not fully portable...
@maruse that’s a fair point, actually. I’d probably pay maybe £5/month so long as my WiFi could hold up. I get good speeds on my Xbox WiFi (~15-30mbs downloads) but I’ve no idea about the Switch.
Element of inspiration, indeed... Breath is basically already a Ubisoft game in all but name.
We don't need that. We need Odyssey on the Switch!
Nice.
