It's time to relive those precious childhood memories as Scalextric is hitting the Nintendo Switch in video game form next week.
In a similar fashion to top-down classic racer Micro Machines, Scalextric has players racing around with toy models of cars, this time on those crazily fast plastic tracks that used to take up the whole house. Players can build their own circuits from scratch, adding straights and corners where they see fit before taking on their own masterpiece, or choose from one of the pre-existing designs based on some of the most famous race tracks in the world. Fancy taking on the toughest Formula One tracks in a Scalextric car? Go ahead.
You'll be able to choose from four classic car shapes, going on to customise your ride how you see fit with paint jobs and the like, before taking on a friend or the computer. It looks like a cheap and cheerful experience that could provide a slightly different experience on Switch - we'll have to wait and see how it plays when it arrives.
The game will launch on the Nintendo Switch eShop on 12th June. Will you be taking this one for a spin?

lack of online multipalyer is unfortunate and it doesn't seem like you can share tracks online either but as a cheap time killer it may be worth getting
Fixed on rails rather than steering and no pool tables/breakfast shenannegans ... how is this like micro machines?
I want micro machines now
This looks very bad.
I believe this is a 1:1 porting of the awful mobile version. What a pity. :-/
Ewwww!!! What a terrible trailer
Well, this is a "slot-car toy" racing game, and Micro machines is about of "Die-cast" "mini" car toy racing, hmm, both are totally different to start...
And well, this games is not bad, but, really is very, very, "very" simple.
That looks horrible 😂😂
Ermm. Did they not notice the black mouse pointer visable in about the "action" shots...?
This looks like a terrible asset flip.
Gotta tighten those gates, Nintendo.
Wow, this looks cheap. It reminds me of those pre Toy Story CG short films, which would be amazing if it were 1992.
That.. is not a very nice word to pronounce.
Umm.... I appreciate the effort but this looks horrible.
I mean I’m happy to read about any new games on Switch but seriously, there has got to be other things to write about?
Absolutely a waste of my time watching that trailer
this should be made illegal
Not usually negative but when you mention micro machines and then show that trailer...
Move over Micro Machines, this auto steering, choppy piece of shareware garbage will be ghosting the Switch next week! Woot!
@RyanSilberman While all this is likely accurate, I think it's unbecoming and unprofessional of you to slander and berate the developer. I don't know why ANY developer would want to trust you, now, knowing that you may smear them if they don't act the way you expect.
That trailer made me sad.
I have always been a bit of a petrol-head and am a huge fan of racing games (arcade and sim). On top of that I loved Scalextric as a kid. So why when those two things are combined does the end result make me want to dive head first out of a 20 story building?
It just looks devoid of any kind of joy or fun. Not a good look for a game...
@Daftbomb Exactly. Aside from the 'miniature' thing, this looks nothing like MM, and apparently plays nothing like it.
Nintendo did this better in one of their streetpass games.
Also, why would they release a trailer of that with such a bad frame rate?
@aaronsullivan And people wonder why they can't trust sites like IGN. At least he's being honest with his score. How is refusing more games to review after receiving a bad score not unprofessional? In fact, this trailer here screams scumbag anyway, to think anyone would bother with this shovelware. Slot racing was cool... for 5 yr olds in the 60s. This is a disgrace of a video game, so the more I know about this dev's business practices besides, the more I know to steer clear of his products.
The only appeal of these kits was watching the cars fly around a track on your floor as a kid. I really don't see how this will work as a racing game.
Looks not fun at all!!
Was hyped until I saw the trailer. How can this be a video game as a fixed non steering racer. I guess it'll be like the real thing where you avoid going too fast around corners or risk crashing out. But trigger buttons would have been much better for that. Ahh that Gamecube switch controller makes sense now. Hahahaha
This will end up in the 1 dollar/euro sale in the e-shop within 2 months
@ryancraddock I can't really see the point of this, but then again I 've been known to be wrong
