Corecell Technology has announced that its 2014 Nintendo 3DS release AeternoBlade has been ported to the Nintendo Switch and will be releasing this Thursday, February 1st.
For those who may have missed it the first time around, this Metroidvania/JRPG mash-up plays through the journey of Freyja, the game's protagonist. After an opening scene which actually sees her being killed, she is tasked with harnessing the abilities of the mysterious AeternoBlade, going back in time to have a second chance at slaying her killer.
AeternoBlade 2, a planned sequel to the game, is also in development for Nintendo Switch despite being part of a failed crowdfunding campaign. Interestingly, the original title also failed to reach the necessary targets of its crowdfunding efforts, yet still eventually released for its intended platforms. The creator of the game has said that sales from this Nintendo Switch port of AeternoBlade 1 will help to fund the costs of the new sequel.
We had mixed feelings about this game when it initially launched on the 3DS, so it will be interesting to see how it plays on the Switch. Have you played the original version? Let us know what you thought of the game below.

Wasn't that great on the PS4 two and a half years ago. Does it come with the DLC too or is the switch price a premium?
Not sure if I'll bite.
I have never heard of it. I will wait to see if I hear people talking about it and what they say.
Looks quite skippable
It's more meh than cottage cheese.
Meh game in the proper meaning of the term.
I hate the art-style, I'll have to look at gameplay first.
Huh, a 5 for the 3ds version isn't the most confidence building of review scores but I do like the look of this and will probably do what the original review advised and wait for a sale.
Regret buying it on the 3ds then, will not make the same mistake again. Not with so many good games to buy/play.
My reaction to the demo was so negative my first reaction was to delete it from my Activity Log's library on 3ds.
Felt supremely flat and generic.
The graphics look rather more dashing than the 3DS version.
For me it was the other way round. Played the demo and liked it but the full game totally dissappointed me
"Please buy our old product that a lot of people said wasn't great to convince us to make a new product that we hope to convince you to spend money on."
While I really dislike the corporate focus-tested, impulse monetized, "streamlining" of AAA corporate games. I'm starting to get increasingly infuriated by the indie mentality of "We have to spend real money to 'vote' for companies we want to see future products on even if we aren't so keen on the product we're buying now."
Games businesses are not charities, they're businesses. Offer me a product I can't resist and I'll buy it. Don't try to guilt me into "supporting your efforts." We're not the financiers of people's game dev hobby. Make a commercial product people want to buy, market it appropriately, and see success.
It's abusive. "Indies" have learned to beg for "support", and somehow game fans have come to accept that it's their "place" to use their money to "support" these businesses like it's all a giant coop rather than business-consumer relationships. In a way it's just the flip side of the AAA corporate scene in different packaging.
I heard loosely this had a following, but honestly, it's the most boring game of it's genre, lacking in so much polish. There's waaaaay better experiences to be had. I'm not surprised part 2 development isn't going good. But please Corecell-- A "present" to us? Me already buying it for 3DS, I ought to be able to get it on Switch for free, and I probably still wouldn't download it.
I'm playing this on the 3DS currently. It's a good game, but hard. If you like Metroidvania games, it's worth picking up.
@NEStalgia Its not a thing. Anyone that buys into it is a fool to themselves. Look at yacht Club.
Hmm, not understanding the hate. It is a good game. I look forward to playing it with the hd graphics and preparing for the sequel!
