It's fair to say that the Senran Kagura series is something of an acquired taste thanks to its large-chested protagonists and their various states of undress, but plenty of people are "into it", as is evidenced by the rather swift manner in which the franchise has made its way to Switch.
Shinobi Refle -Senran Kagura- isn't a full-fat entry however, and instead focuses on massages and - ahem - well, you'd better see for yourself, to be honest. None of the Nintendo Life team members felt comfortable loading it onto their Switch just in case their mum walked in during an "intense" play session, so we convinced (AKA: "fooled") our video guru Alex into doing it by telling him it was the new Pokémon game. Poor, innocent, naive Alex.
He will never be quite the same again.

Critical Hit!
Nintendo seal of quality is long dead obviously. This game should be banned. Grotesque.
Sheer, deadpan naivety is not the weapon of choice for most acts of trolling, but Alex wields it here with terrifying mastery.
I feel like his early impression of this being a horror game is actually fairly accurate.
Funniest video on the internet today. Oh damn right Im buying this!
Alex is a prettier waifu than her, anyway.
Well it'd probably be quite appealing to Japanese paedofiles and perverts! This (so called) game touching up overly sexualised school children is just so wrong on so many levels - it's probably a cultural thing but that's no excuse really.
Just watched this sneakily on my phone at work with no sound and had great trouble not bursting into laughter at the game and Alex's face. Can't wait to watch this at home (or when enough people have left the office!)
@Kit It is one aspect of Japanese culture that is quite creepy but it does provide amusement in the form of videos like the above.
I'm a fan of the Senran Kagura series. So I picked this up (It's cheap). It's good for a laugh.
Wait, you guys all live with your mums?
well it's no. 1 on the jp eshop charts
Oh I knew the westerners with their so-called morals would go nuts of over this. Yeah know, it's totally cool to have torture mini games and to slaughter innocent people running around totally not Los Angles but touching a younger girl in a massively unrealistic manner? Oh no! We cannot tell the difference between reality and fiction with that one!
When it comes down to it, both are fine in my book. They are fiction. Don't like it don't play it. What concerns me are the people unable to tell the difference between fiction and reality.
@Mikemario - Culture differences are fun, huh? Nintendo Seal meant nothing there since its inception if we're going that route. Just how Japan sees what's fun. For ages they were physically disoriented or confused how first person games like Skyrim worked too.
@Kit Tell me, why is this wrong, but a game about say, killing innocent people running around a city isn't? Or how about a game where you can actively launch nuclear strikes on other countries? Or a game where you actually play as terrorists killing American and British soldiers?
Those games exist and are okay because they are obviously fiction. Just like this one. If you cannot understand the difference between reality and fiction, I suggest you seek help.
alex-senpai is so innocent lol
@Mikemario The seal of quality was never about the games being good. It was Nintendo’s way of fending of unlicensed game releases (like Tengen).
With all the sexual misconduct that is happening in the USA I think this would have been banned or at least a second thought to say maybe we shouldn't release this.
Poor Alex
did your mom call you on your PSP? LOL
Why are you trying to avoid grabbing the totally obvious areas? If you're gonna play a game like this then there's no room for political correctness crap where you're trying to pretend you don't know exactly what it going on. I genuinely find it personally offensive when someone is trying sooo hard to pretend they are somehow better than all that, because It implies and creates the false impression that other completely normal men are somehow sick for even acknowledging the obvious sexual stuff in this game. You know what you saw and you know what they wanted to try--so stop being a typical social-media-conditioned sheep and pretending anything even remotely to do with sex doesn't exist in your world and play the game properly. No real man is beyond sex, and if you don't want to play a game that plays on sexual themes in any way then simply don't bother playing it at all.
Note: If the game is indeed about massages or something like that then you should know that there as such things as breast and butt massages that are totally legit massage techniques. Now, this game is obviously going for a bit of the perv angle, and these are apparently high school kids, but still. Those parts of a women exist, they are clearly shoved in your face in the game--MASSAGE THEM, and actually do your job and show us what happens. Because I didn't watch the video to see sex but I did actually want to see how the game works and how it plays on and responds to stuff like this, but you didn't ever properly try to play the game imo. Real gamers try everything just to see what happens--and if you weren't going to play the game properly then why did you even play it at all.
And, you warned the game contains "adult content" but based on what you did and what was actually shown there was literally zero "adult content". It's not "adult content" for a women to simply have big boobs or wear pants you know, or for a woman to move into a suggestive pose yet still be completely clothed and stuff, particularly, if as implied by the way you played the game, there's no sexual intentions at all in any of that stuff--or so your playing style would have people believe. Saying there was "adult content" in this video would be like saying there's "adult content" in a typical high school gym class just because girls are jumping around and wearing pants and other clothes and have boobs that might jiggle. That's kinda sad if you instantly see something that could be labelled "adult content" in that. So, everything about your play time here was incongruent with the warning message, what the game is actually trying to do, and how you were playing and so on--it's actually a very confusing message to send to people trying to figure out what these types of games are all about.
I speak Japanese and read a lot of the text. Trust me, you're not missing much.
One of the chalkboard menu items was a two player mode. Slightly concerned with that one.
@impurekind
While I understand what you're saying, this game doesn't actually contain sexual content. Grabbing at obvious areas wouldn't lead to sex, not grabbing them does however highlight the hilarity in the setups.
@impurekind I could use some of your passion for reading some of my backlogged books!
@Pod I just feel he was being very calculated and socially underhanded in how obviously he was trying to pretend like he was too good to know exactly what he should be trying just to see how it affects the game, like, by implication, anyone else who could possibly think there might be something else you'd want to try there must be somehow weird and sick or something. We all know what the game is about, so I don't think it's genuine or fair to pretend otherwise and probably leave a lot of people feeling somehow guilty for knowing otherwise and afraid to express such observations, thoughts and feelings. It's clearly a sexualised videogame, but it's not real life pedophilia or child porn or whatever (it's all just clearly pretend, exaggerated, and totally silly)--so touch her boobs and bum and other parts and let us see what happens and how the game reacts to it--that's the silly fun of stuff like this and, you would think, the whole point in making a video like this about a game like this in the first place.
@impurekind Sounds like you just need to buy the game. It's super cheap anyway. Then you can do whatever you want.
@impurekind
@invictus4000 The game looks total garbage and I'm not interested in games like this. But, I think if you're going to show a game like this, knowing exactly what it's getting at, then actually play the game properly and show us what it's all about. But pretending your better than that, as he did here, is just offensive to me, because, like I said, it implies that anyone who knows fine well there's more to the game, and knows you should at least be trying to touch those other areas even just out of curiosity, is somehow a little bit of a sick perv or pedophile or whatever (like only dirty minded people would even think of trying such a thing). It's just very disingenuous and dishonest imo--and it's totally indicative of our distorted modern culture where everyone knows about sex and wants sex in their lives, at least every normal and healthy person who's reached at least puberty does, but they are afraid to express even the tiniest hint of being sexual, or even just acknowledging it's there, for fear or being judged and possibly ostracized for being some kind of sick weirdo perv or whatever.
Obviously a huge troll from Alex with the fake naivete, but kudos for keeping a straight face. I couldn't stop laughing for the first few minutes.
Note: If you know a little about Japanese culture, which is probably Alex's case, you must have heard of their pedobear approved perversion.
How very american of some of you guys to be so offended by sexual themes but not batting an eyelash at gun violence.
Even with all the sexual scandals going on in the US right now, I think mass shootings are still a bigger problem in your country.
With all due respect, I know this is not a political site, but you should really check your morals. But do it on your own not by reading angry articles on news outlets that are meant to shift your priorities for political gain.
Yeah, not my cup of tea.
Funny video anyways. I guess his answering a PSP for a phone was supposed to be a give away that nothing in this video is serious, but it might be just me.
And the award for stupidest Nintendo Life video of the year goes to...
@Heavyarms55 Some of us Westerners actually read the article here on Nintendo opening its doors to mature titles coming to Nintendo Switch. So this doesn’t surprise me. the people you are referring to make up 1% or less of Western population. A much larger percentage either doesn’t know about the game or doesn’t care. Unless copies are brought to the west and Gamestop sells physical copies, It will just be another obscure title added to the Nintendo Switch catalog. Frankly Scarlet I don’t give a damn!
@impurekind
Sure, however, this is Alex, and Alex does Alex.
Not saying you aren't allowed to call him out on out his family-front squeamishness, but it's kind of a trademark, and you can probably find someone else playing the game exactly the way you feel it should be played.
I don't think these games depict children (if they did, even the footage would be dodgy). It's just that, when you're using a cartoony style, you can only really depict pre- or post-pubescent (obviously the former would be completely wrong), not subtle variations between 15, 16, 17 etc. If you look at the line-up from other games such as Peach Beach Splash, they are clearly not children.
Wow... simulated groping. Move over Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball!
Thanks for the awkward video, Alex, you made it all the more entertaining XD
This is from that creepy developer that said he wanted to play pinball on a woman's body, right?
Atleast its not one of those grotesque, bloody violent murder simulators like GTA, you know that kind that should totally be outlawed because only wannabe murderers play them, yessiree, that garbage should be kept away from my console!
On a more serious note, the comment sections on Senran Kgura articles are grating enough, but the video could atleast be more serious, or atleast Alex's actuall honest opinion of the game.
You don't have to like or feel comfortable about the game, but don't treat it as its some kind of game you need to "fool" anyone into.
And this game ain't that ecchi.
in these dark days of feminists and sjws, I'm so happy this kind of game exists.
@impurekind
Oh look a video I don't like. It's been almost a minute, maybe I should stop watching it because it doesn't interest me. Nah, should finish seeing it and then get offended.
@Al_Godoy
exactly, so what's worse? Shooting a fake (human modeled) man's brains out or groping a fake (not remotely human related) young looking lady? For some reason we're desensitized to gun violence making the first option more "normal' or okay. And i'm with you, it's all a type of art and no one is being affected and it's all FICTION. Don't like it, don't play it or watch it. People should stop making arguments and getting offended for every freaking thing, it's getting really annoying.
@Mikemario
It died in the December of 2015 with the release of Meme Run.
This comment section needs to take a chill pill, dear lord.
I just have to respond to those who think that playing this game contains the same kind of innocence that motivates someone to play a shooter such as Overwatch. Just because shooting someone else is wrong (arguably worse than sexualing a young woman who I will assume is a consenting adult), does not make the motivations for playing that game right or wrong. Most people who play shooters are doing so for the rush - the competition - the feeding of the survival instinct. There are those who play the games who wish they could kill others, and I believe it is wrong for them to play the game with that kind of intention. What makes this game bad (and this video comical) is that the main drive to play this game is to meet the appetite for over-sexualization of women. There will be the select few (like Alex) who play the game for other, less objectifying reasons, but that is the exception. And if you don't think this objectifies women, then why don't you try this with real women?
But you might then argue that shooting others is treating them as expendable, but as I said earlier, you are more likely viewing others as elevated - as real competition.
Just for full disclosure, I am against gratuitously violent games such as the GTA series.
Brilliant lol
What gets me is that this girl is supposed to be in high school or hell even Middle School this is called pedophilia. Yuck
Alex did a great video.... People lighten up. The Japanese can be very strange.... Not all Japanese, but enough Japanese are strange enough to buy this game.
Remember there are also towns in Japan andChina that have great big penis festivals. Very very strange
Can I have Senran Kagura Pinball now?...Or a game with Hibari in it?
SENRAN KAGURA!! I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS IN ENGLISH
I'd feel a tit playing this game. O.<
@J_C In my opinion you're not reading between the lines of what was going on in that video, so you can't see why I take issue with it.
@StarSurfer That small faction of the population tends to be really loud. Can be hard to ignore them.
I don’t see what’s all the fuss about this game.
It’s just a cartoonized high school girl. Is it lightly sexualized? Without a doubt. Is it explicit, or considered adult content? Not in the least.
I, honestly would take sexual or erotic content over violence, murder and torture every single time.
The people that are fine exploding a person’s head with a gun in a video game, but find touching a girl’s boobs in a video game disturbing, are the ones with weird issues.
After living in Japan for fifteen years I’ve discovered that the “morals” that most westerners use to rate if something is acceptable or not are obscenely full of hypocrisy.
In the end this is just a game targeted at young males wanting to release some stress, just like all those other games that most people find “acceptable”, just instead of murdering fictional people, you’re massaging your fictional girlfriend.
@Paraka it's about child molestation? Culture smulture
@Mikemario - Broad strokes, man, broad strokes.
It's 2017, male video game players & especially reviewers need to stop feigning ignorance as if they are legitimately baffled and disgusted by these types of games. I guarantee if you were to check their browser history you would see tons of adult videos, some depicting women in schoolgirl outfits & even some hentai.
You guys aren't fooling anybody.
@Paraka how is playing with a highschool girls boobs not child molestation?
@Mikemario because you're not actually playing with a high school girl's boobs? Last time I checked this was just a video game with a cartoonized girl in it.
By your same way of thinking, you're a murderer if you play games like GTA or almost pretty much any other game out there...
I also wouldn't count a 16-17 year old person as a child, but that's another matter entirely.
@maruse it's just wrong and you know it. In 2017 . It's just a really bad look for nintendo.
@Mikemario It's just a video game, nothing more. I don't see anything wrong with it and I don't see hurting Nintendo's image in any way. But to each their own.
It's not my type of game but lot's of people seem to like it... it's been number 1 on the ranking for a while now.
@Mikemario @chachi
It's... a ... freaking.. game. Who cares what intentions a person has when enjoying entertainment? If a guy gets off by killing people in GTA that's his right, it's all in his head. Same with "sexualizing" inanimate objects. If these people do messed up things in real life then there is a problem and people are being affected. Whatever fantasies one has, if they don't crossover to the real world why get offended by what one might or might not think? Oh please don't let people smoke in movies or games because then you'll want to smoke and then get addicted and then get cancer and then expose other people to said smoke and then they might get cancer too. Let's all make a movement to ban smoking from video games guys please!
Sorry for the rant but I get triggered when people get offended for stupid reasons, especially with the whole "over sexualizing women" thing. Sex sells, and you can tell by how popular the game is and that's not going to make all Japan rape little girls. Don't have the statistics but sexual violence in Japan is really really low if not rare compared to other first world countries, and they have some messed up stuff. Same with gun violence in games. So this idea of a correlation between games and real life is just not true and irrelevant.
Lol!
@crashnnburn I can relate man since people overreacting is getting on my nerves.
