LEGO Worlds is a brilliant idea on paper; a world where you can build literally anything you want with the customisability of LEGO and all without any limitation on your imagination. Unfortunately it seems that someone somewhere along the way was happy to cut corners when it comes to the very basics of what make a game playable.
Poor controls, infuriating menus, a currency system that might as well be totally absent, it all manages to ruin what could have easily been an outstanding title, possibly something to even rival the mighty Minecraft, what with the LEGO flag waving above it.
Make sure you check out the ludicrously long video above to see these tinges of rubbishness in action, and let us know your thoughts on the game in the comments down below.

I dont think this is rubbish, people are hard on this game, let up a bit. I personally am enjoying it tons on the switch!
Pretty dissapointed in the effort put into this game. Lego has always been a source of quality when it comes to games, it's pretty surprising to see mistakes like these coming from them. With that being said even if these mistakes didn't exist, it would never challenge Minecraft.
The sub-heading should be "not everything is awesome," because "everything isn't awesome" implies that nothing is awesome, when obviously some things are.
So it's not a chip of the old block. Perhaps they will try to make improvements in a sequel.
@Nintendoforlife lego always a source of quality? Have you experienced the loading times on lego city undercover? On any console? Sometimes they just release stuff and hope the Lego brand will make it sell to people who don't read reviews...
Title is click bait I'm enjoying Lego worlds.
"Poor controls"
@AlexOlney I haven't played it myself, but multiplatform reviews suggested that it's only really enjoyable with a mouse and keyboard. They even gave the PC version a better score because of that.
Which makes sense to me, even without having played it.
@Phantom79 did you know the effective render distance for interactive objects regularly drops below 0 in split-screen mode?
you can spend 5 minutes looking for a spaceship when you're standing right underneath it, or looking for an NPC you've passed 20 times already.
From I watched on Youtube :
I 'm interested with House customazation.
But i'm not sold by so Blocky textures, Weird Blocky cutaway when you are inside rooms, so Uninteresting constumes.
Sounds like the game is fine, Alex. You just suck at learning the controls.
@okeribok So we're talking about loading screens on one game out of how many? How about we look to Lego Marvel and it's open world gameplay.
I must confess I have never played Minecraft (and never will unless a physical Switch edition ever rears it's head!) but the classic space dlc for this game is just so damn tempting.
It's really cool that TT games started doing something else.
Now they just need to do it differently.
I own the game, I think it's fun and lighthearted, and I get why they chose the hold X wheel as a menu, it's only to have something reminiscent of the other LEGO games. But guess what. This is NOT like their other games.
New game mechanics needs new controls scheme.
This is too bad, I really want to build for hours, but the controls are just getting in the way.
@TeslaChippie Nothing is awesome. The world is a bleak pool of pain and misery. The only escape for humanity is that which they secretly crave the most, but haven't the courage to accept.
I mean except Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker. That game was just a /delight/.
My kids love it. They're are Minecraft fiends and they haven't complained one bit about it.
@Nintendoforlife Minecraft is ugly and boring. I didn't like the controls in either game. But Worlds is still more fun and interesting.
The graphics are questionable and the controls are clunky, but it's fun. And cost £25.
My kid bought this on Steam back when they first announced early access for $15, maybe 2 years ago now. He's played it a bit, even bought the space DLC, and while I've tried it it was never anything spectacular to begin with. The missions and progression system they added in did add another layer of fun, but it's nothing like Lego Dimensions or any of the other Lego games.
Probably should have named the game Megablox or something, I think the Lego name throws off what it actually is. Roboblox gets a whole lot more play time.
It's not The Letter or anything near that level of shovelware, but I think anyone going in would likely expect more than what you get.
As for the controls, it spent 2 years as a PC game, any controls are likely to feel tacked on.
I have zero interest in this and Minecraft, for that matter. My question is more for my kids. They LOVE Minecraft and all things Lego. I know kids can tolerate crappy games way more than us jaded veterans, so how would it be for them? Is there enough to do and is it self-explanatory, or is it way too hard for them to figure out. It seems like Alex was struggling pretty badly, so I worry about my 9 year old.
Its a mediocre game at best that was clearly designed for a mouse and suffers greatly when played with a controller. We knew this back in the spring when it released everywhere else. No surprises here.
Hey cool the comments is full of "manly men" who hate minecraft because of the image the internet gave it.
Wow, that pop in at such short range is just crazy.
From my very limited experience, this isn't a Minecraft beater, but it does have potential, so I hope the devs continue working on this. Minecraft's been around for years, and LEGO have the staying power, so hopefully this is a work in progress still.
The issues with this game are being over emphasised.
My sister got bored of this game in like 2 days on the PS4 and this is definitely a game that she should like. So no surprise its crap on the Switch as well.
That draw distance is appalling.
The world just looks sooo small... Its fun to see how much Alex hates it lol
@Shadowwing78 Texture packs and servers will solve your problems my friend.
I'd rather wait for Dragon Quest Builders 2.
@Phantom79 totally agree having pre made builds and dozens cars, planes, animals etc....not to mention unlimited abilities to creative anything!
I think its good!
People seriously need get over minecraft its not that fantastic...😐
@Phantom79 It's far from rubbish, more just unfinished. I like it quite a bit, but I can't really say that the 100 golden brick quests have exactly been varied or interesting... Half of them have been either too bugged to do, or so stupidly easy that I could solve them with one use of a flatten tool.
I can't believe how small the supposed that worlds are....
In the controls are just awful.
I wanted this game so so bad, and I still don't understand why they would bring this out when all I was going to do is tarnish the Lego name that is so foreign to me I just don't know why somebody would do that it looks like it needs about 3 or 4 more years in development before it's actually a real good game.
It's still worth having in the collection since there's no other game quite like it.
@okeribok Just as a sidenote on your Lego City comment: I must say that the load times (and a few other things) has been adressed on the Nintendo Switch, in the latest version
