Though the Nintendo Direct didn't tell us much about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that we didn't already know, it did fill us in on one key detail - it'll arrive on 17th November.
The date has been pegged as November for a little while in some retail listings, but it's nice to have a firm date. Once again the Breath of the Wild-themed amiibo unlocks were mentioned, but it's worth noting that the same outfit and items can be found in the world without scanning a compatible figure.
We recently shared some first impressions on Skyrim for Switch and were rather impressed, albeit we didn't quite get to grips with the motion-controlled archery.
Is this one on your wishlist?

I might be the only person in the universe to have never played Skyrim. Needless to say I'm excited.
The heavy Skyrim focus was a bit hit-and-miss for this Direct, I think we know kind of enough about the game already. The Direct could have done without it, but hey, amiibo. So yeah.
Other than that, good Direct.
I really want to play Skyrim but XC2 is due out just after then Odyssey right after that..
Who am I kidding? I'll buy em all. 😇
Thank Akatosh, we finally have a release date!
@thesilverbrick nope.
Cool, maybe my character can finally learn what comes after Foos
I played 200 hours of this and can not wait to go again, this is why I bought my switch to start with
Big game for Nintendo gamers!! 👍👍
@thesilverbrick add me to that list - day 1!!
I'm debating whether to buy this on my PS4 or wait for the Switch one
@AlexSora89 Did you really think Skyrim was too much? Seemed OK to me. XC2 was about 15 minutes too long, and I'm buying the special edition of that day 1. Octopoath was also too long, especially with the demo out today. People want to know about it, play the demo. Everything else I think was fine, though they should have had the $379 MSRP price on screen for the SMO bundle so my 5 minutes of happiness wasn't deflated so hard 5 minutes later when I found out.
@MonkiPlays , I don't think they ever mentioned it would be GOTY edition. Regardless, this game will last you a decade. I wonder if they might include mods, though? Hmmm....
Probably wait before getting this. Mario a month before, Xenoblade a couple of weeks after plus whatever else there is and the Zelda DLC all dropping around the same time. Not gonna find time to play it tbh.
So when you open one of the Zelda item chests, will it go Fus-Ro-Dah-Dah-Dah-Daaaaaaaah?
I have to give Nintendo mad props for their release strategy! Nobody can accuse Nintendo of droughts, based on their 2017 release calendar! I don't think that they've ever released games at such a breakneck pace:
-Zelda, 1-2, Switch, and Snipperclips in March
-Mario Kart 8 in April
-Arms in June
-Splatoon 2 in July
-Mario & Rabbids and Sonic Mania in August
-Mario Odyssey in October
-Skyrim in November
-Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in December
Am I missing anything?
@thesilverbrick I also have never played Skyrim
@thesilverbrick You're not alone.
i just bought the psvr because of Skyrim on that looking like a blast.
I played over 200 hours on the 360 version.
Barely played it on the xbox 1 though.
the main quest isnt great but the over all world is fantastic
I met my in game wife during a dark brotherhood quest
Man, I know people who literally bought their Switch just for this, and over saving up for other consoles too.
I'm all in. This is gonna be epic.
@BanjoPickles
Ya. You're missing MHXX in August, Pokken Tournament in September and Fire Emblem Warriors in October lol...
I know, it's so many it's hard to keep track of.
@thesilverbrick Add another, day 1 purchase for me.
Have you guys played Strikers 1945 or Gunbarich yet?
Would love to get it, but not paying full price for it.
@thesilverbrick have never played either, I avoided it on PS3 because of all the bugs, I'm glad I get to play it for the first time on Switch in what is hopefully a much better experience.
Never played it and stoked too. This will be one of those games that push people over the edge on buying a Switch. Not quite a system seller but, couple it with the right game or 2 and quite a few more people will be convinced on taking the dive.
@JaxonH I want to buy this, I really do, but I don't have time to play more than a handful of 100+ hour RPGs, and between Xenoblade and my 3DS backlog I just can't justify buying it. The thing is, I'd also like to support 3rd parties to help create a positive feedback loop where more games lead to more console sales and vice versa, and not the negative loop Nintendo seems to constantly have to fight.
If only Bethesda gave me another way to support them...
@BanjoPickles September has NBA2k18 Fifa, Pokken and more, and Fire Emblem Warriors is next month. Not to mention Doom is due before the end of the year, Sonic Forces in November... I mean there's probably gonna be close to 50 retail releases from now to year end.
Skyrim is great fun but like fallout the combat is kinda arsed for a game that has so much. Will be getting this.
I'm ready. its a bit of a tight release schedule for me but I tend to play skyrim off and on so I'll likely pick it up day 1 so when the urge strikes me I can just play. Maybe I'll play an Orc this time around. I'm usually a Redguard or an Altmer.
Never completed this on PS3.. Kind of broke the game with the armor and weapons that I created. Then my PS3 quit on me. Guess I will get back into it on The Switch!
Na,... Battlefront 2 drops on November 17. I already have Sonic lined up for when on the road in November. Makes a good combo.
@PanurgeJr
Well, there's always Doom and Wolfenstein! (although I have a feeling that's kind of what you were hinting at)
Very excited for Skyrim, Also the Nintendo Switch is the real deal now. Third parties are taking the system seriously.
Arriving on my birthday! Day 1 I'm there.
@JaxonH 😉
This Direct was the turning point for me. I thought that the Switch reveal was weak, and that their E3 presentation left much to be desired (the highlight of their Treehouse was nothing more than a logo), but they came out with guns blazing with this Direct! For the first time in years, I'm focused more on Nintendo than Sony (even though I'll still be first in line for Red Dead 2 and The Last of Us 2)!
Now that third parties are starting to come around, I would love to see the following:
-Dark Souls, in any form (though I would love to see the entire trilogy!)
-Fallout 4
-GTA 5
-Mega Man Collection 2
-Resident Evil 4 HD
-Red Dead 1
-Bioshock Collection
-a sequel, or remaster, of Super Mario Sunshine (on the first party end of things)
-more classic schmupps (Gunbird, please!)
-the expansion of the ACA line! Get Sega involved! I would love to see Virtua Racing/Fighter, Crazy Taxi, Virtua On, etc. I would also love to see Nintendo reach out to licensees and figure out a way to rerelease games like TMNT Turtles in Time, the X-Men arcade, and so forth.
A man can dream!
Unsurprisingly... not in Japan. We won't see the game until next year. We've got only an "early" next year announcement. Waiting again.
@thesilverbrick me neither.
@BanjoPickles Yeah, this is the most epic year one for a Nintendo Console in a long time. To me, this and the E3 Directs were all about letting people know they mean business on the software lineup. I hope the holiday goes well....seems like it has to.
Yikes, there are getting to be way too many games to play this year. An excellent problem to have!
@BlueKnight07
Have you downloaded the Project Octopath demo yet? If not, do so! It's ridiculously good!
@BanjoPickles How many times can the demo be played? Time limit?
@BanjoPickles Not yet but I will!
I ain't paying more than 30 dollars for it though . . . I expect I'll be waiting for a sale.
@BustedUpBiker you didn't get enough likes for this. Lol
Never played skyrim.
Hype.
@thesilverbrick I've put hundreds of hours into this in a very buggy PS3 version and I'm still very excited to play again on Switch
Played it for 250h on Xbox 360. Got it again for PC (on sale) a couple of years later to replay it in higher Rez and once more sunk 150h into (mods were at fault, too). Got the Special Edition for free when it released (owning the original on Steam already it was a free upgrade of sorts) and have once more spent over 100h on it, this time in glorious 4K Ultra 60fps. Yes, it IS such an involving game, it's still fun to go this way and that and do quests after all this time.
However, I am now uncertain if I want to cough up the moolah and invest even more time on the Switch version. My current playthrough on PC is far from finished, and I remember too much from it too vividly still. Maybe in two or three years when it's a budget title. Don't get me wrong, I am still tempted...! It's just that good.
Have they said if the game contains the DLC expansions?
@rjejr
Whoa, long time no see! But yeah, I definitely thought that Skyrim's exposure was a bit too much. I mean, it was too much compared to the abundance of details we already know about the Switch version of the game. That's what I meant.
@S4ndm4n they are included afaik.
@NickOfTime90 cool thanks. That makes this a definite buy for me. I've got skyrim and all DLC on my PC but I never got round to playing the DLC. I'll happily play through all of it on my Switch.
@Snakesglowcaps Ha ha, thanks, tough crowd tonight
@S4ndm4n I never played it although i had an xbox 360 and an xbox one now. Once I heard it is coming to switch, I waited:) the dlc makes the full pricing okay imo
Ive exhausted my time with Skyrim on PC with mods and have no reason to go back to it.
@mikegamer
I'm not sure, to be honest. I just jumped in and started playing.
@thesilverbrick you and me both buddy, I never found it interesting... Until it got announced for switch
@BanjoPickles "Get Sega involved! I would love to see Virtua Racing/Fighter, Crazy Taxi, Virtua On, etc."
A Sega Arcade Classics series...imagine.
@thesilverbrick I haven't and I'm interested
@AlexSora89 Have you played Skyrim? As somebody who owns it on PS3 but has never played it I thought the coverage was good. And judging from the preview article the other day a lot of NL readers haven't played it yet either. If you have played it already then yeah it was probably overkill for a 6 year old game. I barely remember it to be honest, just a blip. I feel like Minecraft got more time and really who hasn't played Minecraft? Only the people who will never ever play MC at this point. Or aren't born yet, so they weren't watching yesterday anyway.
Oh, good to see you too. Though my overcrowded inbox has me wishing I had stayed away. Stupid reply button.
@BinaryFragger: There are plenty of "old games" that I revisit. The "Skyrim is old" argument is kinda ridiculous, IMO.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Rocket League, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Skyrim , L.A. Noire, Doom, Resident Evil Revelation 1&2, Wolfenstein 2, Worms W.M.D., Stardew Valley - this is the list for all my day one buys. Even with the games I've played before (which is surprisingly only three from that list), it's worth it to double dip on the quality titles for the portability factor alone.
Then there's the wait and see with high probability: Battle Chasers Nightwar, Morphie's Law, Dragon Quest Builders, Nine Parchments, Rime, Lost Sphear, Octopath Traveller, Yono, Mulaka, and Travis Strikes Again. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few as well.
I guess my point is, not only is the game lineup for the Switch absolutely stellar at the moment, I can only imagine what's in the works for next year alone considering the immense 3rd party support we're beginning to see. Sure, some of these games are remakes or ports, but a lot of them aren't. With a healthy mix of great old games Nintendo fans might have missed or just want the ability to play on the go and a great lineup of original games coming by the end of the year or early next, Switch owners will have no shortage of great games to play anywhere and anyhow they want for a good while.
@WiltonRoots
Ha! It's enough to make a former arcade addict drool!
Played it on PS4 but never completed it but I may have to get this one.
@rjejr
Don't worry, you've missed an enormous game but not a gaming Mecca by any means.
I bought this game on the 360 years ago. It's awesome if you're a fan of this style RPG. I personally prefer Fallout over Elder Scrolls but this is still a very cool game. The stories are good and the skills system is unique. I wouldn't mind giving this game another go on the Switch but I'll most likely pass. I need to play Breath of the Wild and Mario is coming out on October 27th so there's not much time allotted in my schedule for many other games other than games that offer a quick match.
Wow, November, and the final quarter, is crowded as hell for Switch, and I'm not mad about it one bit. Now for my favorite dilemma-- "Finding" time to play most of these lol
@subpopz For sure. I agree completely.
@thesilverbrick
I'm in the same boat. BOTW converted me to open world epics, so I have been awaiting this game's arrival for months.
Between this and Mario, I don't no what I'm more hyped for
I can't wait for this but still wincing at the prospect of buggy hell to begin with I just have a feeling. Still buying though 😋
@BanjoPickles off the top of my head LA Noire 11/14/17!! Wii U had painful gaps of nothing to play but Switch off to a flying start!!
Why not Elder Scrolls online ? Skyrim is 6 years old. If you have never played it then yeah it's a great game but I played it a lot on my 360 & I can't do it again at a AAA price.
