New generation, new routine. Nintendo of Europe now distributes details on the Nintendo Download Update as the stores update, so here we are - this week includes a couple of interesting Switch releases, a retail arrival and more on 3DS, and also some multiplayer fun on Wii U. Let's get to it!
Nintendo Switch eShop
Blaster Master Zero (Inti Creates, €9.99 / £8.99) - The reimagining of a classic IP from pixel masters Inti Creates has been on a number of wishlists, with this Switch entry including support for local co-op and HD Rumble. You explore and battle from two core perspectives, and we had a lot of fun with this one in our Blaster Master Zero review.
Nintendo Switch eShop - Neo Geo
ACA NEO GEO NAM-1975 (Hamster, €6.99 / £6.29) - This game offers up an old-school gallery shooting experience; the ACA edition includes 'various game settings' including multiple difficulties, multiple 'arcade' display settings and online leaderboards for comparing scores with others.
3DS Retail Download
Mario Sports Superstars (Nintendo, €39.99 / £34.99) - The latest release in which Mario and his pals get a bit sporty. This time around five sports are presented in fairly substantial but also stripped back forms; amiibo cards are a part of the experience and local / online multiplayer are included. Though it's a perfectly functional game, we weren't particularly impressed by it in our review.
3DS Demos
YO-KAI WATCH 2 Special Demo BONUS CODE (Nintendo, free) - In the YO-KAI WATCH® 2 Special Demo you can explore the town of Harrisville, a charming village where you meet Hovernyan for the first time! Discover the town, battle Yo-kai and keep an eye out for secrets. Bonus for downloading by 06/04/2017: Download code for the theme YO-KAI WATCH®: Hovernyan for Nintendo 3DS. The download code is valid until 30/04/2017.
BOXBOY! Series Demo Version (Nintendo, free) - This includes some trial levels from all three BOXBOY! games, including the upcoming Bye-Bye BOXBOY!.
3DS eShop
Blaster Master Zero (Inti Creates, €9.99 / £8.99) - Pleasing news for 3DS owners as this one takes its bow at the same time as on Switch; based on the developers' strong work with the Azure Striker Gunvolt games, hopefully this will be a top-notch version on Nintendo's dedicated portable.
Mini Sports Collection (Rainy Frog, €4.99 / £4.49) - An interesting one, as these low-priced collections often are, this features 12 sports; they vary from Table Tennis to Pro Wrestling and Rugby, so we're not really sure what to expect. This could be a lot of fun or, well, not a lot of fun...
New Nintendo 3DS eShop
PINK DOT BLUE DOT (RCMADIAX, €1.49 / £1.39) - A score-chasing screen tapper in which you try to keep colours in sync.
3DS eShop DLC
Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 - GV1 Song Set #1 (Inti Creates, €0.99 / £0.89)
Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 - GV1 Song Set #2 (Inti Creates, €0.99 / £0.89)
Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 - GV1 Song Set #3 (Inti Creates, €0.99 / £0.89)
Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 - GV1 Song Set #4 (Inti Creates, €0.99 / £0.89)
Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 - Missions – Merak & Carrera (Inti Creates, €1.89 / £1.69)
Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 - Missions – Jota & Elise (Inti Creates, €1.89 / £1.69)
Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 - Missions – Viper & Stratos (Inti Creates, €1.89 / £1.69)
Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 - Missions – Ultimate Challenge (Inti Creates, €1.89 / £1.69)
Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 - Extra Mode – Speedrun Mode (Inti Creates, €1.89 / £1.69)
Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 - New Song – Stratosphere (Inti Creates, €0.99 / £0.89)

Well that was worth waiting for? I've had ample time to set aside the money for this
I may get Blaster Master Zero. I've never played Blaster Master games, so a demo would be nice.
Likely to grab Blaster Master for Switch and perhaps Nam, but will wait for review to ensure it runs well.
I'd also like Blaster Master on 3DS but may wait for a sale on that one.
Well, I already picked up Blaster Master on the Japanese eShop, so... YoKai Watch demo and the BoxBoy demo are about all I'm gonna pick up; though the Gunvolt DLC is tempting, since I like supporting Inti Creates in all they do.
Start as you mean to go on? That's dreadful.
Playing Zelda, no point getting anything else, not that anything really interests me on there
lethargic moaning
What should we do to get discounts for FE Fates, Bravely Default etc.? Sacrifice to God?
Im a bit underwhelmed by the switch releases for this week. 2 releases? hopefully not a sign of things to come
Finally... but all poopy.
By the way, when will we see a retail release of the Azure Striker Gunvolt pack with parts 1 and 2? They said it was registered in Europe, but they said it months ago
When I'm 64 I'll still come here every week to read the list of CIRCLE Entertainment's "temporary" discounts !
Need more switch demos!!!
What a great week. Full of games
Highly disappointing. I'd like something to play other than Zelda and Snipperclips...
This download update is scarily reminiscent of what it was like for Wii U...
Interesting to see Bomberman 64, which has a great multiplayer though meh story mode. Wonder just how far Konami will go with their 64 releases. Hero seems likely as that was released on the Wii VC but could we possibly see Bomberman 64 2? A game that's pricey and never saw light of day in Europe? That would be a great alternative to finally play it.
As for the update, its okay. I don't think a new Blaster Master game would call it dreadful. Lacking in tons yes, but something to either last you till next week or just carry on playing Zelda....
Box Boy demo certainly. Mario Sportstars is disappointing. As for the rest, if you're going to have a quiet week might as well make it follow the release of Zelda.
Disappointing. Both the new routine and the sparse Switch offerings.
Bomberman 64 on wiiu VC but not switch
Guess it'll be the same as WiiU until the 'untimely' death of the Switch happens too.
I have joy-con controller issues and my screen is being scratched all over too, light scratches, but still happening since Saturday. And believe me, I am MEGA careful with all my systems over the past 30 odd years.
But as for the very FIRST eshop release week, disappointed is not the word.
Wonder how long it'll be before my switch turns into a dust pile like the WiiU. Prob right after Zelda. I'll dust it off for Mario of course. Xenoblade will definitely not be out this side of 2017.
Just brace yourselves for another difficult Nintendo generation guys.... All I'm saying.
Side note; In the past few months I'm starting to lean more on the side of Nintendo doing exclusive games for PlayStation, might be a better path for them now-a-days
@Yedaself just wait from Black Friday/Christmas to Black Friday/Christmas. These games can't be getting younger from the marketing perspective.
@nhSnork Just FE Fates DLCs got discount on Last Black Friday/Christmas.
Sheesh, week one and people are already complaining. Don't you folks still have Zelda to play? Or the two dozen games that came out last week?
I swear, this site wouldn't be happy unless 20 full retail games along with a dozen VC and indie games came out on the same week.
@Yedaself eShop isn't PSN, so for a 2016 Nintendo game, getting even DLCs discounted in the first year seems like a hope-inspiring phenomenon to me. Let's wait and see what next winter brings. Although personally, I still hope to invest in the special edition with all three games - much as I prefer digital games, Belarus doesn't get many special edition boxes to begin with, so I'm tempted. Might actually go for it next Christmas... sigh, if the stock doesn't go poof by then like PSV Child of Light did last year.
@ThePoochyKid frankly, it increasingly seems like we're lucky to be getting smaller titles in the launch window as it is, for reasons fans don't seem to be thinking of. Would you be overly eager to release your indie around the 10/10-accolade smash hit from the legendary genre-definer franchise? Me neither, I reckon.
Ahh couldn't they at least release the download news on Wednesday, annoying that we have to wait.
Be prepared for 4 years of the Wii U eShop, but now on Switch!
No more Monday updates for us Europeans, then?
Farewell to all the balance-related, discount-based planning then.
Cry cry cry is all everyone does.well here's a box of tissues to dry them whinnying eyes.First official update since launch lol
@AlexSora89 Wait...you don't have a gif for that sentiment? Who are you and what have you done with AlexSora89???
@GrailUK
Great week! Awesome to see Neo Geo games, finally. It's about time we see Bomberman 64 on any platform, with its amazing multi-player and (especially) its single-player. It's been disappointing that the N64 games are still the best in the series and the most unique, even though the ones before and after them are still good fun.
Are they really going to drip feed all their VC games all over again? Are you kidding me?
I would try out the Yo-Kai Watch 2 demo if Nintendo sends me a code.Edit: I misunderstood this, and I didn't realise that it's available for everyone to download. I was thinking it was like Pokemon or Smash where you needed a code to download a demo. Anyway, I'll try it out later.
@Deanster101 of course they are. that's the only thing that makes sense from a marketing and development perspective.
marketing: when you dump 100 games on one day all of those games will get less sales than when you release one per week
development: the reality is that only a small team is working on VC games and Nintendo fully tests each game before release. so it really wouldn't be possible for them to just dump 100 games in one week.
Bomberman 64 <3
Too busy playing Zelda
Just got Blaster Master for the switch!
Also Yo-kai watch 2 is a fun game.
I'm super excited for the NEO GEO games that came out today (for us mericans, everybody else already has them). I don't want to blow all my money so I just bought Metal Slug, and it's as great as I remember it. I'm gonna try to buy the rest later but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is looming in the distance so I may save for that. Also Master Blaster looks great, though I've never played the original.
I don't think we are going to see Switch VC anytime soon.
Switch VC is clearly not going to begin until the rollout of the paid online begins in Autumn. Why can't folk work this out?
Nintendo were clearly going for a soft launch. And I'm happy with that!
@alasdair91 Yep. They mention 'late 2017' so folk may as well get hype about E3, Arms, Mario or a bunch of other stuff other than the thing they can't have yet.
Pink Dot Blue Dot is a radical departure from the previous title, White Square Black Square. However, where White Square Black Square highlighted racial division, the new Pink Dot Blue Dot tackles gender inequality and is a bold move for the e-shop.
Bomberman 64 I'd have bought in a heartbeat if it was on Switch. That game is a classic, absolutely fantastic multiplayer and a great, challenging story mode! Here's hoping it'll come to Switch whenever Nintendo decides they want to bring VC over. :]
I am still playing Breath of the Wild and plan on doing one game at a time. That said, I do want Shovel Knight, I am Setsuna, Fast Rmx, SnipperClips and Blaster Master.
It is nice having a backlog of games that I want but haven't purchased yet.
I find it interesting that Inti Creates makes Azure Striker GUNVOLT Anime available in Europe and DLC for Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2.
But they haven't released the physical Striker Pack here, or most importantly updated Azure Striker GUNVOLT to version 1.3 like the North American version is already like six months ago.
Bomberman 64! woooooo!
@KTT
Exactly. I hate this new routine already.
@Kolzig I'm still pretty bitter that we didn't get 1.3. I certainly won't be giving them any money anymore.
@Dunan yes I agree, Blaster Master Zero looks interesting, but the way backers got treated with Mighty No 9 and European fans with the Azure Striker Gunvolt... I can't see them deserving any further purchases.
