Right now there's a lot of buzz around the new DLC for Steamworld Heist (out now), with its new character Fen, levels, weapons and (most importantly) expanded hat collection.
Talking to Image & Form CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson about the new content it was interesting to hear how Image & Form is approaching DLC differently to other developers. This is very much an integrated extension rather than a bolt on.
In this first DLC you meet a new character called Fen… you find him on the scrap heap and he becomes your good friend and ally. Hopefully people are going to like it because we really wanted to integrate the story of Fen into the main plot. So more missions are added to the existing worlds.
Hearing Sigurgeirsson talking about this as the "first" DLC for Steamworld Heist sounds like there will be more coming.
I certainly hope to create more DLC, we have many more ideas for additional content. We'll see how this DLC goes. We don't have to reinvent the wheel to bring more content to Heist but we want to make sure it's interesting enough to pay for.
Will there ever be an amiibo for Steamworld Heist? "No official developments on that frontier" was Sigurgeirsson's response, although there has been a custom created amiibo from ZanarkAndSky.
We're still waiting for news about Steamworld Heist on other platforms too, although Sigurgeirsson did underline that "very soon it is coming to other platforms that we will discuss at a later date."
Talking about the appearance of Rusty in Mutant Mudds Super Challenge, Sigurgeirsson reflected on how Independent developers collaborate on Nintendo. "You'd be surprised how open and how candidly we can discuss with other developers what works, it's really helpful."
Sigurgeirsson wouldn't be pressed on the much requested co-op mode although he did suggest (tongue in cheek) that you could achieve a similar experience by each controlling a character.
The DLC, The Outsider, is out today alongside a free update to SteamWorld Heist that adds French, German, Italian, Spanish or Russian as well as expanding inventory slots. And yes, you get more hats in the free update too. Which by our book is a good thing - you can never have too many hats, right?

Getting ready to update and purchase.
I'm sure I would enjoy this game, but would I find time to play it over all the other games I'm already enjoying?
@leo13
Once you get started, you will probably want to keep playing...
I think Heist is more than good enough to buy the dlc and am happy to do that.
They had me at "more hats..."
How's about we get the Wii U version please before worrying about DLC?
Do people actually play games that don't have Amiibos?
Absolutely fantastic game, after I finish with Severed on PS Vita - also fantastic by the way, I will get back to it!
I started to play this game last night. I'm hooked. I was surprised how easy it was to get into the game, the tutorial was easy to follow and I didn't feel like it was "just a tutorial". It was fun and engaging.
I'm a little late to the 3ds gaming world. When it first came out, I wasn't interested at all. I played a store demo and felt sick afterwards. However, I decided to get a 2ds about a month ago, and I'm sure glad I did! Otherwise I wouldn't have played gems like this game!
..yes!, just got the add-on content and hope there's more!..so, like the hat said to the tie.."you hang around here"…"I’ll go on a head"..
Can't wait for the Wii u version. Since I know I'll want all the dlc let's hope they have a convenient bundle pack by then if there's more to come....
Does anyone know how to beat the Jester in the new update? If you hit him, he regenerates health and moves to a different spot, and makes clones at the start of every turn! I don't get how to beat him if every shot he just heals himself automatically.
