It's the final Nintendo Download Update before Christmas, which is a merry occasion indeed. However you treat the Holidays, the update should help make the week a bit more special; we have a Wii classic, some free DLC, 3DS HOME Themes and a whole load of discounts. Let's get to the details.
Missed the European Nintendo Download Update earlier in the week? Don't worry, you can unwrap all of the details right here.
Wii U Virtual Console
Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo, $19.99 / $24.99CAD) - Quite rightly regarded as one of the Wii's finest games and a high point in the Super Mario franchise, this wowed audiences in the last generation with its clever stage design, use of gravity and abundance of charm. It's a stone cold classic, and we said as much back in our 2007 Super Mario Galaxy review.

That's the lot for this week's North American update. Let us know what you're planning to download in the poll and comments below.

Wow, aside from SMG, this is pretty disappointing. I was hoping for some Nintendo sales or at least some VC stuff.
Ah well, I'll probably buy SMG and be done with Christmas sales for the year.
I was hoping for Super Mario RPG, I already have Mario Galaxy on disc and to be honest, I haven't had the urge to play it again in years.
Why does NOA hate us so much?
NoA fails to deliver again...
No real VC games... This makes me a saaaddd panda.
Christmas is canceled
Weak week is weak! especially this Christmas week.
Wow I just wasted 40 bucks on the eshop.I knew I should have put my money on the psn
Someone high up at NoA seriously looked at this update and said, "Yeah, that's good enough."
How... mehey. Oh well...
Its cheaper to get a physical used complete copy of SMG than it is to download it......why would I download it for more when I could just get a physical copy for cheaper?
NOA is going to be on the naughty list this year how they been running the e shop.Could they give us a vc game on 3ds.
No Super Mario Galaxy for me. It's my least favorite 3D Mario.
Was hoping to see Super Mario RPG...
Wow,besides SMG,this is pretty bad...
Where's my Mario Rpg?
I'll wait till after 12pm est to see if there's any other game discounts that slip under the radar as usual. I may get Human Resource Machine depending on the sale price and/or one of the Pokemon theme.
Ha-ha you always see the negative side on here. I was expecting some positive comments for Mario Galaxy but everyone is disappointed. Nothing for me this week, but you guys have to stop treating the eshop like its Nintendo's personal gift to you. Why would they throw a mountain of sales on you when it's Xmas and people already are going to buy games for loved ones?
if Shovel Knight is on sale, I may have to double dip.
You what I have been taught be happy with what you get
@andrew20 Super Mario Galaxy though a VC re-release will have decent sales for NOA. It's just too bad we didn't get Xenoblade Chronicles though in my opinion.
@crzysortagamer I know right it kinda sickens me how people seem to act so damn self entitled when it comes to the eShop
Wow, what a humble bunch of people... I hope you don't whine like this to your families this Christmas.
I've been waiting for a sale to pick up Human Resource Machine and I'll get the Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros Edition update. Wasn't there supposed to be another sale starting today for Steel Empire and some other 3DS eshop games?
Not really surprised it is Nintendo of America that we are talking about here. Just another lame week on the eshop yet again for us. So glad I didn't jump on that bestbuy eshop card sell this year like I did last year. I will be spending my money elsewhere either psn or xbox live will be get most of my money this year for xmas. Not one cent will be going to Nintendo of America this year.
@Wolfgabe Yeah! How dare people ask for things they actually want to buy? We should only post if we have something positive to say!
Super Mario Galaxy is a download for sure. Some decent discounts also. I'm a little surprised at the lack of new releases - Christmas is usually when something unexpected and new shows up (e.g. NES Remix), but Galaxy should keep me busy enough.
@TomJ Yeah! Teach 'em a lesson! Let's burn Nintendo's headquarters to the ground! You get the kerosene, I'll get the plane tickets to Redmond!
Seriously, I was foolishly looking forward to Super Mario RPG, but I'm plenty happy with Super Mario Galaxy and finally getting to try out Human Resource Machine.
Yeah, someone at NoA needs to be seriously smacked upside the head for approving this as the big Christmas eShop push. Oh well, saves me money.
But once again, repeat after me: Bad eShop releases (or even good ones) are not the same as Virtual Console games. They are different audiences.
Depending on price, I may jump on Persona Q (like last time that I said I would but I didn't) and I need to get Dark Witch 2 and Radiohammer.
Galaxy is a great game, but my Wii disc is fine so no need to.
I honestly can't remember the last time I downloaded a VC game. I may have gone the entire year w/o buying anything.......and this week is no exception.
@Wolfgabe I think the key situation here is comparing regions and for the sake of being fair lets ignore Japan's lineup because of course the region where the main company division exists will have the best experience and that's true with the other console creators too (Xbox is best in the US and Playstation is best in Japan).
So that leaves comparing EU with NA which is where all of this frustration comes from, if the EU eshop had similar treatment over the current gen (3DS, Wii U) with NA then there may have been disappointment but nowhere near as much as we've seen over the past few years. This is where the logic of NoE cares about their customers but NoA doesn't comes in.
Where is Super Mario RPG?? NOA seems to hate its fanbase
Is Nintendo thinking about NX already and starts ignoring their Wii U loyal customers?
Waaah, my Christmas is ruined....pretty much sums up this comment thread,smh
What is the reduced price for Shovel Knight on 3DS eShop?
@Grumblevolcano Yes, precisely that. It's really the fact that NoA insists on pretending the internet doesn't exist and we couldn't POSSIBLY be upset that people across the pond have all these games we don't. They never ask what we want, they don't even care...meanwhile, Sony actively seeks suggestions for PS2 games on PS4. sigh
Of course, it used to be the other way around...back in the pre-modern-internet days. NoE improved immensely and NoA gave up.
@Grumblevolcano Wait aren't you in the UK? If so why do you care so much about this, really curious?
Would have preferred Super Mario RPG (which Europe got this week) or Super Mario Advance 4 (which Japan got this week).
Also, Super Mario Galaxy really isn't Virtual Console.
This is a weak week overall. Not picking up SMG as I have the Wii Disk in a easy playable format just by going to the Wii Mode and inserting the disk. As for the deals nothing that sparks my interest.
I own the disc for Super Mario Galaxy, so nothing new this week. Getting Xenoblade and Minecraft tomorrow though! Hope you all have a happy holiday!
Stop complaining people. It's Christmas and NOA doesn't have to give you everything. Life is not fair and it's time to grow up. There are more important problems in the world than you guys not getting what you want.
Sorry just have a bad week having to deal with poopoocadoodle.
Anyways some themes and discounts for me. Already own Galaxy
@crzysortagamer
It's about the seeming lack of effort on NoA's part. Compare with the European update, which brings five games and a truckload of holiday promotions, our update has half of the deals and ONE game. Call it entitled if you want, but it is the holiday and every digital store is competing right now. What's here to draw my attention from the steam winter sale, or the truckload of premium sales on the App Store? Not much.
Well, I could benhappy with Galaxy... except I already have it.
So yeah. Mehey.
went to the eshop, doesn't look like shovel knight is on sale
Lol, what a joke week. NoA, please just die and let us merge with NoE. I'm glad I bought a PlayStation a few weeks ago. Sony can have my money this Christmas.
@Jazzer94 Yes, I am in the UK. I care about this because these issues happened to Europe many years ago, my hope back then was that the situation improved for Europe (which it did especially during the current gen of 3DS + Wii U) but not that the roles were reversed (NoA being terrible, NoE doing extremely well) which turned out to be reality here and not just in terms of games but amiibo too.
@Wolfgabe don't get me wrong, I like to do my share of grumbling about disappointments ( smash ballot, reviewing games, ect...) But its like they think Nintendo made a magical eshop promise. ..... Yeah the eshop as a whole seems to be "lacking" some VC titles and blah blah blah, but Nintendo is a business not some weird government operated candy store that you think is mandted to issue you goodies every moment you please because its your right lol.
@Pokefanmum82
We aren't asking Nintendo to GIVE us anything, we are asking them to offer up, for sale, games that we actually want to buy. That is something we expect from every store.
@TomJ Who said I lived in the UK? When was I preaching at all? I'm just a simple lad observing the typical self-entitlement that comes with this time of year. I'll just hope and pray that you can struggle through these dark eShop times and find joy elsewhere in the holiday season.
I'm not bothered, I have tons of games to play over the holidays.
@komodo182 "used"
Used? It's been $19.99 on disc for several years, meaning cheaper new. Only 2 cents cheaper, but still technically cheaper.
http://smile.amazon.com/Super-Mario-Galaxy-Nintendo-Selects-Wii/dp/B005FYJA52/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1450970429&sr=1-1&keywords=super+mario+galaxy+wii
Edit: I wish NOA would remember what "Nintendo Selects" and "Player's Choice" were.
@16bitdave You have to wait another 1:40 from the time I post this. When you read it is up to you. Noon eastern, 9AM western.
@Pokefanmum82
Sony is getting my money this Christmas, why? Because they're better. Nintendo is going to die if they keep it up. They are already almost irrelevant outside of Japan and their strategy is to keep getting worse for some reason. Telling us to stop complaining when Nintendo is a piece of garbage right now? us complaining is what tells them what's wrong. What is even more dumb is they won't listen which already tells me future Nintendo systems are dead already.
@Wolfgabe
You can enjoy being second rate. I'm pretty much bailing on Nintendo after the Wii U as they are just a flop, an irrelevancy in the majority of the world now. Heck, I'm already kind of bailing on them now as I bought a PlayStation 3 a few weeks ago and will probably be going for the PS4 in 1-2 years. Their service is terrible, their weekly releases are terrible, Their library variety is terribly and their support (both theirs and 3rd party) is terrible. The NX is currently dead to me. If they don't want to deliver, I am not going to stick around. I'll join the other 90 million people who bailed on Nintendo last gen.
@Wolfgabe
Self entitled? All people are asking for is comparable service to what sony and microsoft gamers are getting, many of which put their faith in nintendo this gen.
Not even asking for steam level service, just at least as good as other regions.
Asking $20 for a digital wii game widely available new for cheaper physically is just plain disrespectful. It's cheating the customer, and they know it, what a grinch move.
We are the consumer, and we are ultimately paying the employee salaries for NoA. We already let it slide that there are no major games this christmas season, and that the console has like 5 titles period for any given person not available for less or with more elsewhere. The console can't even usually hold those 5 games digitally either! We cut nintendo so much slack already! Who do you think NoA works for? Their job is to get us to buy Nintendo stuff.
Entitled? We are entitled! We bought their dang consoles! We have the right to make demands, because it's in their best interest to please their dwindling consumer base! I mean, in terms of wiiU, there aren't even that many of us! It shouldn't be that hard!
Because if NoA keeps this up, people will wait for the NX and may just go sony or MS!
Oh, and Merry Christmas! Or Happy Christmas
Not very good week, but i already got a lot of games to play during the holidays so...
edit: i well be getting Super Mario Galaxy one day, now i can finally complete my collection of getting the two Haha
@rjejr
I forgot about the select version. In Canada, it costs more than US...well the brand new select version and the download are the same price ($24.99).
But still, can't see why anyone would download when they can get a physical copy (new or used) for equal or less than the download.
I just hope my copy of Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn arrives today in the mail. I thought I would be playing Super Mario RPG on the wii u today, but I was wrong.
What does this mean? Will there be more offers,,? ….......... worth checking the official eShop offers page for more discounts from 9am Pacific / noon Eastern on 24th December.
We should send the 3 ghosts of Christmas to NoA headquarters.
@Aozz True that. I already have tons of games to play on my Wii U anyway, but it's just that this week seems extraordinarily barebones... Especially when Europe got SMRPG and 64DS this week. Oh well.
Not saying Galaxy is a game to be sniffed at, though. If you don't have the game, get it ASAP.
@komodo182 I always remember the budget lines, but I always forget the Canadian mark-up.
@Kisame83 yeah I understand the point of view and also how the eshop isn't decked out this week. But people just come off so entitled and whiny. And they try to over simplify situations and place blame right away. What if updating the eshop is a bit more complex than it sounds, noa says " hey, web eshop updater dudes its Xmas so we made a small workload for you so you can go home early, and there you have it, they only have to monitor SMG and everything else is in the system. Or idk. But do you get my point? This is a over simplified example, but anyway yeah eshop doesn't look as good as it could and their is a group of whying brats among us I want to point out lol.
Buying the digital version of a Wii game for the same price as a new physical copy is a rip off. You can't play it on a real Wii as well as the Wii U, you don't get a case and a physical manual and you have to use some of your very limited storage on the Wii U.
It still launches in Wii mode and isn't configured to be optionally played with the Gamepad. It is a ROM dump.
@Grumblevolcano Thank you for being a good an empathetic person instead of of reveling in the reversal of fortunes or even merely being indifferent. After all, we're all Nintendo fans here and every branch is still part of one company at the end of the day...we'd all like to be treated fairly and help support the company we love...but sometimes, they do NOT make it easy.
So, they tease use with Geno mii costume, then it's confirmed Europe gets Mario RPG, the hype is real.
Then nope sorry, you get Mario Galaxy for $20...
Which is pretty steap, I didn't mind paying $9.99 for some of the Wii games when they first made an appearance on the eshop, and like, I already have Mario Galaxy 2 (which I got for $9.99)
I've been following VC weekly since it came out way back on the wii, Christmas was ALWAYS a special part of the year where you knew and could depend on a great game coming out.
Now? It seems like they don't even have a plan. They are just winging it and for whatever reason, Nintendo of Europe seems to be winging it better.
I'm so glad they have phantom hourglass and we don't.
Merry Christmas
@16bitdave It won't be on sale till the eshop updates at 12 Noon Eastern.
Well this is disappointing. Only standout is SMG, which I already have a physical copy of. What about zero mission?!? How long is NA going to have to wait for it?!
@LztheQuack guys!! Look at this comment. Lzthequack tactfully presented a negative view of the eshop in a tasteful and even amusing way. You all should learn and take note.
Nothing for me this week. I already have SMG physically, and the only discount that somewhat interests me is Shovel Knight; I'll check pricing later.
On ps3, sony sells ps2 games for $10! Even rare impossible to find games! PS1 games are generally $5, sometimes $10, and people think it's crazy for them to sell those games for $10! And those games go on sale all the time!
Nintendo though, feels like they're entitled to $10 for N64 games, same gen as PS1, and most of those games have never gone on sale!
Maybe when the eShop updates there will be a surprise. Super Mario RPG, 64 DS, Xenoblade Chronicles, etc..... anything that people have actually been asking for.
All you folks whining about the whiners have to be kidding: THIS is what we get for the frickin Xmas sale!?
This is the cherry on top of a very slow year. I may have to get on the Sony wagon.
I'm definitely getting Steel Empire this week. I may also get Journey to Kyoto and/or AiRace speed.
Still no sign of Lionel City Builder...
You guys are hard to please. There's some nice stuff here on sale. You not wanting them doesn't mean 'this sale sucks!' Other people, like me, may want them.
I'd totally grab Journey to Kyoto, but I made the (excellent) mistake of grabbing A-Train AND Inazuma Eleven last time there were sales, and it'll be a while before I'm done with those...
@Wolfgabe It's not entitlement. When something is already released in one region, you expect it to be on your region too. I understand Nintendo and I'm okay with they making low sales, and maybe not releasing nothing new these days is okay, too.
What bothers me the most is the big number of VC games on the Wii U eShop that were already released in Europe and I really want to play.
I own a Nintendo 3DS, but I didn't own a Nintendo DS. I want several games as Wii U VC download titles of Nintendo DS, because they are hard to find, or simply really expensive, and they have already been released in Europe. I wanted Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon on Wii U VC since July, when it was released on Europe. I'm waiting for both Zelda: Spirit Tracks and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass since they were released as surprise after the Direct last month. I wanted Kirby: Mass Attack and Canvas Curse (or Power Paintbrush in Europe) too. I wanted to play Xenoblade Chronicles on my Wii U (the original) without having to buy a New Nintendo 3DS and without having to pay so much money for getting it as disc. But I wasn't able to do since August, when it was released on European eShop. And that's the reason I haven't bought Xenoblade Chronicles X yet. People tell me I can play X without playing the original, but I'd like to do like that. I even wanted to replay Resident Evil 4 this October 31st since my GameCube disc is lost, but I couldn't because it wasn't released here. Big Brain Academy for DS on the Wii U eShop would be nice, too, for playing with the family on the big screen, but I can't since it hasn't been released in America, but it's on the European eShop since last June. So, there goes a lot of money I could have wasted on Nintendo this year, but they didn't want me to.
And I only listed the games I care about. I'm sure there are a lot more there that some people wanted in America, but they didn't get them. Animal Crossing: Wild World? PokéPark Wii? Kirby's Epic Yarn? Zack & Wiki?
Maybe I'm just complaining? Yes. But those I said are games I didn't get to play when they first came out because I couldn't. Excepting Resident Evil 4 and Kirby Mass Attack (which I found cheap as physical).
@World Oh, just get it. You know you want to....
Wow, not a single new game on either platform. Glad for another Wii VC game, but the 3DS totally gets the shaft.
Although, does anyone know if Coaster Creator 3D any good? I'm looking for a suitable replacement for Roller Coaster Tycoon 3D, since that completely sucked even if it only does coasters.
I might pick up Shovel Knight and Human Resource Machine if they are cheap enough. (hopefully at least 50% off)
I don't have any other console, so I can't jump anywhere else. Only Wii U and 3DS.
@HeroOfCybertron Ahhh ok thanks!
God-awful, though I'm not surprised. I might just sink in and get Steamworld Heist and/or FAST Racing NEO after all.
@crzysortagamer Are you serious? "What if updating the eshop is a bit more complex than it sounds"... They have a whole year to deck out the eshop and have it ready for Christmas. Saying it is a bit more complicated when they can work out those issues, and plan for a year, it is a bit ridiculous. Even more so for the entitled part... we bought the system to play games, even more so when the games they release are games that everyone and their dog owns and can be bought retail for cheaper than on the e-shop and you can play it on the same system. This is the worst Christmas sale (companies actually doing one) out of any company right now.. and people wonder why Nintendo has become so irrelevant in like 90% of the world.
Terrible and embarrassing. Anyone defending this crap after years of mistreatment must have Stockholm syndrome
@ericthecheese Well NL's review is an 8 so they seem to like it. I'd only get it though if people are actually releasing QR codes for their creations. If nobody is playing it, then there's little reason for me to get it.
No, I don't have the game. Hopefully someone here will give you more info about it.
@crzysortagamer Right? I had all my Christmas shopping done when I got Xenoblade X and Devil's Third. The eShop is the last thing on my mind right now. The rest of the stuff I had to get was from department stores.
Addendum:
I'm starting to get the feeling that ALL the negative comments about NoA are coming from a collective of trolls who have nothing better to do than loiter on this site and jump on the bandwagon of hate just for the sake of saying it...and in Iwata-san's wake, no less.
Shame on all of you. Seriously. If you've been a fan of Nintendo for as long as you say you have, you'd at least be mature enough to have some sort of gratitude or patience for everything you're already getting. All I see here are a bunch of briny squiddies.
The eshop sale is not in the same league as other online stores, for sure. I'm frustrated that I didn't jump on the Black Friday sales now.
The comments from some people are over the top, but you have to expect that from the internet at this point. I do wonder how some of these people are so active on a Nintendo fan site with comments like there haven't been good VC releases in a year or that Sony makes good games, but, spend your time however you want I guess.
Super Mario RPG CAN be played in Wii Mode though. It's not like NA users are unable to play it. You just have to hold a different controller. Heaven forbid.
Watch, as soon as I give in and get AA5 at full price, Crapcom will put it on sale.
May finally dip on Shovel Knight depending on how good the discount is.
@Darkthany
Super Mario Galaxy can be played on the Wii U too by putting in the disc and going into Wii mode.
Super Mario RPG can be played by NA players on the SNES, Wii and Wii U (in Wii mode) but what people are asking for is full Gamepad compatibility. We only want what other regions get.
Let me ask you "whine about the whiners" people something. Do you expect to get any improvements by keeping your mouth shut? Do you think you are helping Nintendo by trying to quiet the "whiners"?
Nintendo needs to start listening more, not less.
lol, these comments are hilarious.
@kensredemption
People who are (or were) longtime Nintendo fans remember the days when they actually seemed to put effort into the business and cared about their customers. Or at least they appeared to care so people would buy their products. To see the meager amount of effort put forth by Nintendo these days is tragic
@khaosklub
Maybe the reason Nintendo products never go on sale is because they have to deal with a smaller fan base than microsoft and sony? As in because microsoft and sony have more players they can afford to price games for lower, while the install base on nintendo is much smaller so they need every bit they can get.
Some may think it's another "bad" week, but the true surprises await on Christmas day, cuz you know, Santa Claus still needs to rev up that sleigh, and if he's having trouble revving that up, he can ask Fred Rechid for help, because Fred Rechid is the master of revving things up, like fryers, because to Fred Rechid, this Christmas feels like the very first Christmas to him, and he's been working really hard this year, plus he's a family man, so that entitles him to the NOICE list!
.....You go Fred Rechid, you just go!
P.S. Holidays happy to all!
P.S.S. Bayonetta DLC would've been a swell X-Mas present TwT I guess there's always Valentines day.
P.S.S. @RandomlyPikachu I still have like 10 days left, so uh, YEEah >: P
@kensredemption
"Shame on all of you. Seriously. If you've been a fan of Nintendo for as long as you say you have, you'd at least be mature enough to have some sort of gratitude or patience for everything you're already getting. All I see here are a bunch of briny squiddies.."
For more than 20 years, I've been a fan and guess what, I'm going to Sony. I laugh at you telling us to have patience. Sorry to tell you but Wii U owners have been patience for 3 years now for Nintendo only to get worse and irrelevant. Nintendo doesn't want to deliver anymore? I'll be giving my money to Sony, at least they offer me something and not at absurd prices like Nintendo. Nintendo obviously doesn't want to keep me a fan so I'll join the 90 million people that already bailed on them.
@Darkthany Actually regarding Super Mario RPG, you're assuming the user has a working classic controller or classic controller pro. You can't use any other controller for SNES games on Wii VC, in comparison for Wii U VC you can use the following:
Lol everyone is so mad that we get nothing barely that they can't even do their usual fight over "OMG WII DOWNLOADS AREN'T VIRTUAL CONSOLE"
@SteamedOddish
Yeah, that must be it. Sales are down so Nintendo gives fewer incentives. Keep spinning but look out for the edge of the cliff. PSN sales happen when the PS4 is on top and the Vita is on bottom.
Japanese rail sim finally on sale. Will have to see how discounted it is in CAD
I might get Human Resource Machine and/or Persona Q depending on the discounts. There's not much else, but new games are rarely released this week of the year, and SMG is a big deal in terms of Virtual Console games. I do wish the 3DS VC got more love, but the 3DS Virtual Console lost steam sometime in 2013.
You know how Nintendo games rarely, if ever, go down in price? That's 'cause people keep buying them at full price that Nintendo doesn't -need- to lower the price 'cause people are going to buy these games regardless. That probably explains their sales. It's lucky for me that I don't care for most of Nintendo's games though, so lack of sales normally don't bother me. I play more third party games on Nintendo systems than Nintendo games, so I look for sales for those games.
I was thinking of getting a $20 Eshop card, and this sale now seems like a good time to get it.
@SheldonRandoms
There will not be a surprise update tomorrow. What makes you think that? Everyone's off tomorrow.
@Chrono1973
What I meant is it's similar to the otaku market. With anime people always ask why is it priced so high, but it's because there's a small group of people that will buy it for that price. So with that small group of people they can stay afloat by selling fewer copies at a higher price. In other words for Nintendo those otaku are Nintendo fans who continue to support them.
@SteamedOddish
They didn't go on sale on the wii either. 1st party Wii games were full price for years after release.
Same with wii vc games
@SteamedOddish
I hope those people can keep them afloat. I am less concerned about sale prices as I am about NOA refusing to release VC games on the Wii U and 3DS while other regions are releasing many more.
Why exactly does NOA just not care about Nintendo's oldest fans?
I get really tired of being called "entitled" simply because I want quality games to come out for consoles that I spent hundreds of dollars on.
...Meh.
Wow, I feel so much better picking up Dragon Ball Xenoverse for my PS3 for 16 bucks since it is on sale this week
Nintendo really fumbled the ball compared to the sales on the PS3 and the Xbox One.
It's a good thing i have plenty of games to play through as the selection for download is somewhat disappointing.
All this hate towards nintemdo. Well, this month I have bought xenoblade x, Devils third, steam world heist, fast racing, demintium. All new games on less then a month. How many games do we really need released each week? I don't have enough time to play all 5 of those games yet let alone complain about a lack of games.
I downloaded AVGN since it was on discount, but what I'm really waiting for is Xenoblade Chronicles X! Bought it for myself as a Christmas gift and am waiting until tomorrow to open it. Damn me and my adherence to traditions!
Already have Galaxy on disc so this week is pretty crap for me. Typical NoA.
@DreamOn Its $13.32. Man, it's still kinda pricey, but still better than $26. Hmmm dunno if I should get it.
I'll get AiRace Speed and Steel Empire.
May get Kyoto and Coaster Creator.
@Freelance Haha, I like how you think!
@Donutman
And I bought a PS3 and 11 games in the last month and soon to buy more probably since Nintendo dismal offers are nothing of interest.
@Donutman None of the games you mentioned are past system classics and that's what all the hate is directed to. People here want to play games like Metroid Zero Mission, Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon, Super Mario RPG, the DS Zelda games, etc. which Europe has got already whether it's today (Super Mario RPG) or even 9 months ago (Metroid Zero Mission).
Well this satisfies my ocd of not having Galaxy 1 next to Galaxy 2 on the main menu. I like having games digitally so I'm not bothered by Galaxy being offered digitally. What does bother me is the fact that NOA is so darn slow with VC releases. Super Mario Galaxy should have been offered back in May alongside its japanese eshop release, and Xenoblade Chronicles should have been available on the eshop by now. Instead what NOA does is give us games without considering the feedback from fans. Take for example what Microsoft has done with emulated 360 compatability via Xbox One, they opened up a voting system where fans are requesting the games they wanted and as a Xbone owner I can expect hundreds of 360 games by the time 2016 is out and a good number of them will be titles I personally voted for. With Nintendo I'm left wondering if we will get
Mother 3
Xenoblade Chronicles
the essential Wii titles on eshop
Metroid Zero Mission
Mario RPG
alongside a host of other games we have been wanting since the days of the Wii.
All of this begs to question how Nintendo will do things with the NX regarding region lock vs region free and if NOA continues to ignore fan requests then I am considering importing the NX from NOE and dealing with the price conversions if it means getting the selection of games NOA fails to deliver on.
This week NOA should have offered Mario RPG, and 64 DS just like Europe, and yes I know NOE didn't offer Galaxy as a download this week so both can be at fault its just ridiculous since once a game hits NOE its pretty much localized to the point of hitting NOA's servers and NOA is like lol sorry for the rant I hope everyone on NL has a happy holiday!
We'll never get Mother 3. Now nobody needs to ask or wonder any more about it.
Can't believe galaxy is a 2007 game. Whoa time flies when you're having fun!

@ikki5 My big question is, if you're bailing, then why do you stick around this site? All you do is sit around and complain about things that don't matter to you. There's absolutely no reason for you to stick around this site.
On a side note: Sony isn't that great. The PS4 is quite frankly disappointing. There's a lack of quality exclusives, a poor selection of games that are "free" every month, an incredibly unstable network that constantly has issues, and a host of other issues. Sony fooled people, and they've gotten cocky.
Oh, and you know how @Quorthon kept pining on Nintendo for "dragging Xenoblade X for the THIRD conference in a row?" Uncharted has been the headlining game for SEVEN conferences now.
My patience is thinning, Sony. Greatness awaits - and still waiting.
No Final Fantasy??
Are there any sales on eshop cards? Cause I need 1 for some sweet Nindie deals.
Man, I guess I really don't have a reason to avoid shovel knight any longer
Still no Xenoblade, Metroid or Super Mario RPG for NoA, seriously WTF!?
I think the real reason that most people are dissatisfied with this news is that they probably own most of these game. Well I, for one, find this incredibly good amount of games, even if I have at least some of them.
Think about others, people.
@IceClimbers Microsoft of all companies seems to be the one that has their eyes on the ball right now. The Xbox One is getting some great exclusives, their major first party titles seem to be coming out on time, they are going all in with Xbox 360 BC, and they seem to be going out of their way to make consumers happy.
Maybe having to eat some humble pie made them back off.
To be honest, Sony's arrogance and return to this habits of the PS1 and PS2 eras, and Nintendo's often questionable tactics and lack of third-party support made me get an Xbox One over Black Friday.
I have not regretted my purchase since then.
None of the big three are perfect, but Microsoft seems to be going out of their way not to annoy consumers.
NOE gets Mario RPG and Mario 64 DS along with a thank you holiday message from Shibata while NOA gives us Mario Galaxy and no holiday messages. So, what does all this mean? Simply put, RIDGE RACER!!!!!
@Grumblevolcano Yes, but I still feel moronic sitting there with a perfectly functional gamepad with SNES controls while cradling a wiimote with a Classic Controller plugged into it. $1 is well worth it for the upgrade to Wii U VC to not do that, and for some unknown reason NoA just plain hates releasing VC titles to the eShop.
@Xjarnold
Is 33% off a big deal? Steam has it for 33% off too but Steam could offer up to 80% off before their sale is over.
@Darknyht You misunderstood my post, it was aimed at the concept of having to buy the Wii VC version and the classic controller being stupid when a Wii U VC upgrade could easily be made present like in Europe.
@Crono1973
Yeah but when you only own a 3ds (and xbox 360) steam's deals don't really affect me 😅
You can tell the holidays are here! Nintendo store is pretty short of games, the Sony store was, and if I read correctly (and listened to my brother), the X-box store was pretty bare this week too...lots of sales on all three though! Guess it will be another week of lightness in the stores, and then...big sale with the new games coming!
Ever since Iwata's passing NOA has been slow with the VC releases. If Iwata's still around the NOA VC would likely be better.
Merry Christmas everyone. I still have Mario Galaxy on disc, and complete, so nothing for me. I'm broke anyway.
@Don
NOA has always sucked at releasing VC titles compared to other regions. It's like they oppose the existence of the VC. I saw no difference when Iwata took over at NOA.
Why do the edit/reply/etc... buttons not show up most of the time? Have to refresh the page a couple of times to make them show up.
@Don I disagree, it's been bad the whole console gen. What has changed is how much better NoE has been handling it in comparison.
@Crono1973
because they realize that most of the oldest fans are fanboys that will buy the NX regardless, so they don't have to care.
they're probably holding on to the most beloved games for when they mess up to appease underwhelmed fans. zero mission is probably coming out alongside federation force and SMRPG will probably accompany paper jam or something. look, federation force is a sorry excuse for a metroid prime game... but at least you get zero mission now!
@Bass_X0 So pessimistic! I mean...yeah, it's probably deserved because Nintendo may very well be too stupid to take the free money from the free preexisting fan translation, but I think there's enough negativity going on around here for Christmas Eve as it is without piling that on.
@khaosklub
The VC being ignored on the Wii U was a real shame because the Wii U really needed the help. One of the reasons I bought a Wii U was because they finally put Earthbound on the VC. I thought that was the beginning of great VC releases but I was fooled. I won't be fooled again on the NX. Eventually we will all just give up.
On the Wii U retail game front, I just don't have enough games to justify my purchase. I really wanted a true 3D Mario but as I have come to expect, Nintendo doesn't really give a shit what NA fans wants.
what a F'ing joke
@IceClimbers
I guess you missed this part
"I'm pretty much bailing on Nintendo after the Wii U"
I am still here because I still own a Wii U (And 3DS but... lol, not much left for that either), once the NX or whatever it is comes out, I'd be surprised if I am here much after that. Maybe to see if it is even remotely worth it. As for the PS4, there is a reason why I got the PS3 and will get the PS4 in 1-2 years. Even still, with as the PS4 is now, it still blows anything Nintendo out of the water right now. Nintendo may win in what... exclusives... but that is about it
Well, what do you know? AA5 was one of those discounts that happened to slip under the radar. A 50% off one at that. Merry Freaking Christmas to me, got exactly what I wanted. Have a happy holiday, folks!
Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays, all!
WOW Check out that amazing new release for 3DS!
Did it get stolen by the Grinch or something!
Can't even get out a Virtual Console game, Nintendo?
Then again we'll see if holiday traffic crashes the eShop again anyways.
@Don The "surprise update" is people spending time with friends and family on X-mas
@World Don't you want a nice shiny new digital game for Christmas?
I'm sorry for sounding ungrateful.I am happy we are getting the games we are.it's better than nothing.I did buy a few of the sales
NOA had a nice graphic tweet. I'm tempted by $9.99 Shovel Knight.
@Crono1973
well, as a major mega man fan, wiiU vc has been kind to me, but especially the 3DS vc, pretty much picked one up for MMV!
hoping for some DS Mega Man VC though!
yeah... I really REALLY don't get what they're thinking most of the time with VC, I mean, they have wii and DS VC now, why aren't they releasing the top games first? why not release beloved Zelda games that people would eat up and instead give us games no one really remembers like yoshi touch and go?
I'm sure some people are overjoyed to get that game... but come on, ZELDA!
same goes for Wii VC, why not come out strong with more popular games? Prime trilogy was great, but why not skyward sword? I understand why no twilight princess, unless they're also working on a skyward sword rerelease with normal control options.
I'm shocked that Puzzles and Dragons got a free update when they shut down the distribution server for the relics in the PADZ side of the game (aka free DLC). But from this description sounds like it's focused on the Mario side of the game so maybe that's why...
There are... quite a few more discounts than what are listed here (a few Wayforward games, for example). Maybe an article update is in order? In any case, check the eshop yourself to see the full range of titles!
Yeah I noticed there's games on sale that aren't listed above, such as AiRace Xeno for 1 something.
@crzysortagamer I just stop caring about fighting the complaints, so now I just make silly posts. Like this one: http://i45.tinypic.com/fenree.gif%20
I don't want any games on this list, but I did take advantage of the sale on "Iron Maiden" that you didn't mention.
I really do hope SOMEBODY at NoA reads these threads and makes the proper adjustments.
Mario Galaxy, and it's sequel, are possibly my favorite Mario games. And I've been playing Mario games since the original Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros released in the US. But since I still have my Wii copy, I'll pass on the digital especially at that price. It isn't that SMG as a game is not worth $20. It is worth that and more. It is a fantastic game with a lot of content. But the fact that in most areas the physical copy can be purchased new or used for the same price or less makes it seem overpriced for the current market.
@Grumblevolcano Apologies, I did indeed misread the post.
Super Street a Fighter II Turbo: Revival, is still $7.99...
@Gen0neD One would hope, but NoA appear to be very tone deaf on this particular issue. Otherwise they would have already corrected it.
@Miss_Dark Well you're in for a treat.
Japanese Rail Sim Journey to Kyoto Right here baby!
Resident Evil Revelations on sale. Got it on my 3DS, but I won't mind playing it again on Wii U.
Or I could get MH4, but I'm not up for handheld gaming at the moment.
What are all these complainers out here for. It may be a unsatisfying lineup for you guys but to others including myself it's fine. I don't even have games like Bayonetta or Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze that I'm planning to get, and that's already enough stuff for me to be set on Christmas. Sometimes I feel y'all spend for too many games when they initally release. Take it in gradually, Nintendo's still the homie yo. Being a casual gamer is so much more chill
I already purchased several games on sale. Thomas was Alone, The Swapper, Ori and the Blind Forest and Disney Infinity. And soon to come, Guitar Hero Live! Tempted by Transformers Devastation...
@Darknyht No argument here. I think if I didn't own all 3 consoles and a 3DS, I'd be pretty angry with the paltry selection on order here too. Instead, I'm actually relieved there's nothing to buy. I'm a Nintendo fan and I want them to do better, which seriously, doesn't seem all that hard. All it really requires, is for them to pay attention and listen to their fans. If they did, they'd be making money hand over fist.
Nintendo's not-sale downloads desides to take a Holiday eh?
Nothing besides a smash character download and other stuff that isn't this I'm planning to get.
I was hoping for puzzles n dragons to have a sale along with dat update..whcha gonna do?
Happy holidays everyone.
(Relaxes on hammock)
When Homebrew can get like 2000 SNES games running perfectly, on the Wii no less, it's a little hard to believe Nintendo takes any time at all optimizing these games for Wii U. Just put them up for sale Nintendo, it's not that hard!
Having said that, I'm sure they're saving their big hitters for the NX. I'm going to hope that our game catalogs carry over onto future Nintendo consoles from now on.
@Crono1973 well put! It's ridiculous and going on for 3 years now!! Still vc at 1 game a week with RARE exception!! We're not asking for freebies we're willing to pay! But never anything much to buy is the problem!
How many gamers besides me went ahead and spent their money in the PSN or Xbox live store instead. I find it incredibly hard to believe that Nintendo doesn't realize this yet they never seem to step up their efforts!!
It's truly unbelievable! Oh well.
@ikki5 amen to that! Bravo!! They will soon be in 3rd party land like Sega but hell at least Sega tried and cared!! It's so frustrating watching Sony and Microsoft pound them into oblivion!! The Thursday Wii u update is equivalent to a huge middle finger right at us! Ok? Then we will spend our hard earned money on the other 2 consoles then Nintendo can sit around at their board meetings and continue to ask each other why? Why? Why? Morons!!!!
@khaosklub good stuff pal!! And Nintendo continues to baffle us all and the customers leaving them in droves on a daily basis!!! It won't be much longer till doomsday in Mario land if they keep it up!!
Nothing for me. Merry Christmas everyone!
@crzysortagamer dude stop! It's not about that! Will you be in that long line of mourners when Nintendo stops making consoles? Sega had a looonnng line man! They're heading in that general direction! If it wasn't for the indie games you'd be hearing nothing but crickets on Wii U!!! Cmon
@joey302
???
Man you guys act like this is the end of the world or something. There was nothing I wanted on PS4 Or Xbox One this week either.
Clearly everyone has been naughty so you guys get coal instead of games.
I don't really mind not getting much games this Christmas since I'm still occupied with other games I got this year. I'll be saving my money for the special edition of Fire Emblem Fates.
@kensredemption you sir are out of touch with what's happening here and you Also will be standing at Nintendo's casket when they eventually get out of the hardware business or God forbid go under completely! Pay attention please and by the way Nintendo doesn't need you to defend them so please stop. They're tanking it BIG TIME!!
@JaxonH really dude? Nothing?? You should really browse both those stores again! I dropped $70 in the Xbox live store last night....eshop? $8 cmon
@SheldonRandoms I would bet you a months salary that we won't see ANY surprises tomorrow!! You're looking at next Thursday bro.
@ikki5 bravo!!! Whistles and claps as I power up my ps4!! Couldn't of said it better myself!! Nintendo's ignorance is mind boggling NOA in particular!! Enjoy your ps4 and the multitude of game choices it provides!!
@grumblebuzzz exactly!!!
@Donutman not the point. Lots of gamers don't like some of those games. It's about variety and choices. I did grab Neo though and love it. But stop and think....how many racing games does Wii u have?? One of the biggest reasons I grabbed Neo is lack of an F-zero title!!
To be fair, Sony's doing the final week of holiday sales (after Boxing Day, well after Xmas) and that's it. There's no word on when those deals go live, and there's literally nothing but sales for 10 days now.
At least Nintendo picked a classic and a beauty at that for the VC choice. The sales might be a bit light, but most of last week's sales are still active on the eShop and the new ones are solid.
Shovel Knight, discounted, is a must buy for anyone with a Wii U, 3DS or PS4. It's worth it at 15$ and a steal at anything less than 12$. I'm usually not so high up on retro, not these days anyways, but it is the best Megaman clone since X and the best sidescrolling platformer in years.
I can't say enough good things about it.
It's literally the only game in the last 15 years I've double dipped on and I haven't regretted that decision for a second.
I'll save my money for Tuesday on PS4 / Vita, but yes. Try Shovel Knight. If you don't like it.. Merry Whatever anyways!
@Crono1973 yea man!!! You tell em!!! The original Wii vc still today blows the doors off the Wii u vc service!! It's truly astounding!!
@joey302 I doubt Nintendo will go Third Party. They'll take their stuff to the grave first. But they'll just turn into something else if they leave the video game industry.
@IceClimbers you have a few small points there but I don't care HOW you slice the bread, the game selection, sales and variety of third party support are areas the Wii u just can't touch, which by the way the Wii u had a years head start!! And there's a ton more games for ps4 coming! Tons!!
I was more excited last year to get Duck Hunt, and that's bare-bones compared to Galaxy.
Well, ain't that happy but it ain't the end of the world either. I was mainly looking forward to Super Mario RPG to get another SNES game on the Wii U menu with Miiverse support.
At this point, I'm not surprised with how it's going. I'm only salty since I'll probably have to wait another half of a year to get what should've been available at the same time as the rest of the world (or another region at the very least).
@Slim1999 no no dude no need to apologize- you have every right to be a Xmas grinch due to lack of Wii u content!! It's fine!
As I said, the eShop listing here for sales and the actual eShop sales are quite the contrast.
Nintendo Life lists 12.
The actual eShop lists 70 games.
Oh and to the guy who got the Curve Digital games, those are still on sale here too.
The disparity is striking.
So yeah, before people complain about sales, they should probably do the research on their own, first.
Cause 25-30 of the games on sale on other platforms aren't worth much either.
I get it.
I got FFX-X2, Broken Sword, DB Xenoverse and a few indies.
Aside from crappy licensed games, remasters and indies better played on Steam, the PSN / XBL sales get just as much salt. It's hilarious to me, reading all this heat on Nintendo when the PS EU blog gets just as many complainers.
More actually.
Human Resource Machine is pretty awesome, BTW. You all really should take a look at the game, concept: http://tomorrowcorporation.com/humanresourcemachine
(It's also available on PC, but it's nice to be able play this on the Wii U.)
@ikki5 would hate to see either of those things happen....but if they keep going the way they're going....I would rather see Mario and Co. On other consoles then never ever see them again. That's tough to imagine. Having said that if you flash back to the year 2001 and told me Sega was heading in that direction I woulda told you your outta your mind....we all know what happened there. But the difference is when that happened I was upset yes but I felt in my heart that Sega cared and tried their best (well Sega of America anyway). To me Sega of Japan is responsible for their downfall. But NOA doesn't even try!! Try guys!! Push!! Get aggressive!! Asleep at the switch!!
@Mr_Trill_281 Go Gators.
Really? No Nintendo xmas sales?
PSN Flash sale goes live.. I'm still waiting for Tuesday as a result.
Batman, Wolfenstein, Dragon Age Inquisition, all cheaper and way more convenient at retail (50 GB download? No thanks). Transformers, was on sale less than a month ago and probably for less. GTA V has been one sale seemingly constantly these last 2 months. No less than 5 remasters not worth the upgrade, download space or replay (a remastered FPS? Seriously?). Madden, the season's 75% over with. PES is cheaper most everywhere else. As is MGS. Mordor is the dated cousin of the Witcher 3.
Which means, if you don't want The Witcher 3 and Tony Hawk 5 (the worst mainline entry in the series, priced at an astoundingly horrod 80$) at a reasonable level doesn't tempt you, the PSN Flash sale is just as busted.
Honestly, I wish Sony and Nintendo would stop catering to last gen's "I didn't own a system" crowd and make new and exciting games.
2016 feels so far away..
@SahashraLA I think the eShop lists all ongoing sales and this list is just the most recent additions to it. Some of the other sales come from previous download weeks.
I'm not debating that point. I'm saying that, if someone looked solely at what is listed here, on this page, it would be incredibly disappointing.
But it's just a fraction of what Nintendo has on sale. In fact, despite the Flash sale making Sony's offerings look slightly (or alot, depending on what games you've played) better when comparing Wii U to PS4, 3DS to Vita is the opposite.
Unless you didn't take advantage of the HDN sales at some point in the last 6-8 months, there's barely anything worth playing, let alone purchasing. Some sparse Tales games sales, then again, 90% of Vita owners are being smart and supporting the Trails series this holiday.
I think the sales are pretty average, unless you want an older game barely worth playing. Or a new game that would be much smarter to buy physically (instant play, easily resold, and tradeable).
Nintendo killed Sony in one stupidly obvious area: without easily expandable storage (1 TB doesn't last long when games are 25-60 GB each) I find myself micromanaging with every single download on my PS4.
On the PSP, Wii U and 3DS, I just popped in a new stick / card / HDD and went.
I like how fast the PS4 runs from disc. Then again, the Wii U's disc drive was considerably better then the PS3 and 360's too. But my ISP is still running with a cap, so 'unlimited' shows its limitations very quickly when everything is 2 Blu-rays big and streaming is everywhere.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, while there are some amazing games and a wonderful selection on Sony's black box, anyone going that route should be careful about going digital only and well informed. More choice means more chance you could buy a game that really won't work well with your gaming tastes and at least with physical, you still have a net.
@ikki5
If Nintendo is willing to go mobile then they are also willing to go third party.
@SahashraLA
Sony offers 500GB storage minimum on their console, Nintendo offers 32GB maximum. Don't even pretend that Nintendo has them beat in the storage area. You talk about how PS4 games are 25-60GB, Wii U games can be just as big. Xenoblade Chronicles X is 22 GB, that will eat up most of your storage on the black Wii U and the white Wii U can't hold it at all.
You may be able to hold 10 retail PS4 games on your stock equipment but on the Wii U, you won't even be able to fit half that. You wanna lecture people about going digital on PS4/Xbox One but think it's somehow better on the Wii U? It's worse on the Wii U.
@joey302
"Really dude? Nothing"
Ugh, ya. Nothing.
You spent $80 on digital releases that just released this week? Or on backlog that's been on the store for a while? Anyone can spend $80 on stuff that's been out. We're talking just this recent week's additions.
I already own every digital game on Wii U, PS4 and X1 that's worth owning. And as far as this recent week's additions, there was nothing on PS4 or X1 worth picking up. Same for Wii U, except Mario Galaxy.
@Crono1973
It depends on the games. It CAN be worse on Wii U, but it can also be better. Going digital I'd say it's a toss up which will fill up first.
But, going physical, Wii U ironically gets the most mileage, by far. Simply because discs don't need to install.
Thankfully all can be expanded or upgraded. I slapped a 2 terabyte HDD in my PS4 within 6 months of purchase. And it's almost full. Think I have 400gb left. That's gonna run out before the gen is half over, and 2tb is the largest that can fit inside ATM.
"If Nintendo's willing to go mobile they're willing to go 3rd party"
That's not true at all. Going 3rd party would obviously destroy their hardware business. Going mobile does not. If the day ever came they quit making hardware, sure, they'd obviously go 3rd party rather than just quit making games.
But don't think that day is coming any time soon. Even if they deemed home consoles unprofitable, they'd still have their handheld platforms. But I imagine they'll experiment for at least another 2 generations trying to find stable ground for home consoles. Even if they can carve out a 20 mil niche fanbase, it should be enough to find a profitable business model.
@Caryslan Not entirely true. I waited and waited for Killer Instinct 1 and 2 and even some of the Rare games like Battletoads arcade and Solor Jetman to appear on Xbox Live for the 360 but Microsoft won't do it? Yet they will offer a watered down version of the newest TombRaider to go on the 360? Selective support to get people to upgrade?
At least Nintendo will make two versions of a game if their existing platform can handle it like Twilight Princess got. And I know the 360 is perfectly capable of running all those Rare games and arcade games.
At least this update is better than last years when we got........Duck Hunt........
Am I the only one who's been waiting for SMG to get on the eshop? We finally have SMG 1 & 2, instead of just the second one. I didn't want to buy SMG 2 on the eshop until they released first one so I'm really glad now that I can download both. The reason Nintendo even started doing the Wii download thing is for sheer convenience, really. It's also nice because you can track play time, and I am HUGE fan of that. Also, you don't have to wear the disc reading laser out. So really, it's a good upgrade from buying the disc.
Got Attack on Titian finally! also got the theme as well!
this is it? I'm so glad I got a PS4 for Christmas. I'm more than ready to move to Sony's camp. I'm pretty sure I'm done with Nintendo after the Wii U unless one of 2 things happen. 1) NoA starts taking notes from NoJ and NoE, or 2) we get a region free console.
Otherwise Zelda Wii U and Zelda TP will be my last Nintendo games.
Every time I read the comments on this site it makes me want to vomit and abandon gaming forever.
@JaxonH no dude the sales the sales bro! And it was $70. It was $80 a week ago. And I spent $100 on PSN week 1&2 sales. Ya know what yea you picked the perfect week to point out that it was a slow week for Sony & Microsoft. Pretty sly of you. But that's one week out of 52! Not the other way around like Nintendo is doing! Do you go into the eshop and have a tough time trying to figure out what to buy? No cause choices are at a bare minimum. Sometimes the live and PSN stores have such strong weeks that I have to really take my time and be selective.
And stop with Mario galaxy it's an awesome game yes but Jesus it's the only game they posted this week and like many gamers above posted, big deal. Would it kill them to throw 4-5 vc games up? Where is resident evil 4, the 2 Zelda ds games, the metroid game everyone has been screaming for, Wii Xenoblade, Zack & Wiki, the 30+ turbographx 16 games, wave race 64, star fox 64, the snes Star Wars games, GameCube games and tons more?? Cmon It's bullshit! And if you think the eshop compares to what is being offered on PSN and live in terms of variety, dlc, big sales etc then you really need to join all us angry gamers posting here tonight on a little reality break! I love my Wii u but cmon man! It coulda been so much more than it is and one of its greatest selling points if you love retro games is the vc service and that has been downgraded from what the original Wii has still 3 friggin years later!! Perhaps you should read ALL these comments and count the negative ones vs the positive ones? Nintendo is losing customers in droves every single day!!!
@joey302
Good grief man.
All I was saying is it ain't a big deal. Other consoles had nothing too, don't see anyone flipping out over that.
@ikki5 I am going over to PlayStation side
@Don
Not everyone I have to work in Christmas from 6AM to 6PM:(
@SahashraLA "I'm not debating that point. I'm saying that, if someone looked solely at what is listed here, on this page, it would be incredibly disappointing."
You did make that point though. You said if the writers did their research this list would have 70 games on sale, but that's never been how they do that on this website. People already saw those sales, they wanted something different.
What a loud minority. I perused the Xbox live and psn today and last week and found nothing interesting. Well I will get hotline Miami again because Steam is a DRM turd in my opinion.
The Sony and Ms games are rehashes or games I played ages ago and unlike Nintendo don't age well. It's ace attorney trilogy for me. Stoked
@JaxonH
At minimum PS4 offers almost 16 times more storage as the Wii U. Since the Wii U games also ship on Blu Ray, the potential for even one game being too big to fit in the onboard storage is there. You will atleast fit a few games on a PS4 before running out of space. Stop making me defend the PS4 by claiming the storage situation on the Wii U is somehow better. Your argument is ridiculous.
People claiming that Nintendo would never go third party just don't understand the significance of Nintendo promising never to go mobile and then doing just that when they couldn't ignore the mobile market any longer. Their console business is already in the toilet and the handheld market won't stay healthy forever. They will go third party before they throw in the towel.
On mobile, Nintendo is a third party developer.
I'd go so far as to say Super Mario Galaxy is the best and most important game of the 7th generation.
About time it's available again.
@Crono1973
Nintendo are not "going mobile" though. They're hiring DeNA for a five-game deal, of which people are complaining loudly that the first one isn't a game at all.
Nintendo is not a "third party developer" on "mobile". DeNA is, but happen to have access to Nintendo IP.
@evosteevo
Duck hunt was a welcome release. Nobody could play Duck Hunt on their Wii U before that was released. SMG could have been played all along on your Wii U and for less than Nintendo is charging.
@Pod
Nintendo has a separate company make mobile games for them even after they said they wouldn't do this. If you think they won't go third party when they can't compete in the console/handheld market, you are mistaken. They will no matter what they have said in the past.
It's a matter of opinion but there were plenty of games last gen that I enjoyed more than SMG. In fact, SMG ranks below Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 64 to me. Oblivion was probably my favorite game last gen but Lost Odyssey is right up there too. I haven't had the urge to go back to Super Mario Galaxy since I beat it all those years ago. Can't even begin to tell you how often I went back to Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine.
@Gen0neD It hurts for me since I only have a Wii U and a PC well past it's prime. So here I sit with cash in the pocket and nothing that I am interested in purchasing, or even tempted to purchase because of a good sale. There are some interesting Nindies, but most I picked up already as part of Humble Bundles years ago. Of everything on there Shovel Knight comes closest but I am not a fan of Mega Man.
I surprised that the "big" release of the Holiday week was a game that is easily findable at that price point physically new or less used, and nothing has been added as a Christmas surprise (as of 10 am Central) to the eShop.
@Darknyht
I really wouldn't expect anything today.
@Crono1973 Not, just amazed at the lack of competence on the part of NoA when it comes to the eShop and that even after all these years Nintendo as a whole does not seem to understand digital and online.
@Crono1973 Right on. Super Mario Galaxy actually has camera angle problem.
@JaxonH dude see that's just it - it is a big deal. 1st of all its Christmas and many that unwrapped their Wii u this morning may have an eshop card along with it. What is Nintendo thinking day before Xmas releasing one game?? Ok sure 1st time owners as of today have PLENTY of great games to dive into but what about us day 1 or early adopters that have been there from the beginning?? Don't we deserve better, the 10-11 million that got them to this point? I'm not quite sure of where you stand with them (you do seem to defend them) but like you I own all 3 systems but I love Nintendo back to the Snes days. At first I hated them for crushing Atari with the Nes but I then moved on to Nintendo and Sega (I favored Sega) once I realized Atari blew it on their own! Anyway- yes I'm pissed but I'm also angrily rooting for Nintendo big time!! I'm standing here on the sidelines with my Pom poms cheering them on but wow they just make me so mad cause they're not trying!!! It's like watching your favorite baseball or football team stink it up when you know damn well they're a better team then they're showing!! I was sad when Atari went under...sadder when Sega exited hardware....don't wanna see it happen again.
But again if they keep going the way they're going....i don't care how much money they have bigger companies then Nintendo have gone under! And yes super Mario Galaxy is still an amazing game and those playing it today for the first time will enjoy the hell out of it!! Maybe I'm getting my point across now? Happy holidays to you and yours! Salute!
@Crono1973 I bought the Wii U for Earthbound originally. That and the girlfriend wanted one too.
Not exactly an impressive sale, but even though, I WOULD pick up Shovel Knight for the WiiU, if it were possible to do so without having physical access to ones' system .... Unfortunately, I won't be home before January 1st, and as such, I will miss out on that discount :-/ Not a huge deal in itself, other than the fact, that I have zero problems buying stuff on my PS3/4 as well as on my X1 over the web. It's really a shame that Nintendo cannot be bothered to offer even a basic level of convenience to it's customers - no two way s about it! =(
@Crono1973 :/ Yeah.....exciting Duckhunt......
@evosteevo It was fun for a little while. I haven't played it since last Christmas but I also haven't played Super Mario Galaxy since 2008 or something.
The only good Mario game is Super Mario 3D World because you can play as Peach or Rosalina.
@Crono1973
Um, it IS better.
I buy games physically, as do most people. So guess what, my Wii U wasn't filled up even after 45 physical games.
My PS4 on the other hand, filled up in 6 months. So don't tell me it's not better. It most definitely is by virtue of games not requiring installation.
Digital? Sure, that's better on PS4.
As far as "Nintendo going 3rd party" come find me when that day actually comes. You can say they will all you want, but talk is cheap. Come find me when it actually happens, and then you can say how right you were. But until then, there's really nothing to talk about.
I'm getting SSFIITR for sure!
Well that's a boring sale. Yet again Nintendo refuses to put their own digital library on sale while 3rd parties are the ones running worthwhile discounts.
Its starting to look ridiculous guys, digital games shouldn't be treated like their never-discounted physical games. Until that happens, apparently Capcom, Atlas, and Indies are the only ones putting in effort while Nintendo sloths around worthlessly.
@JaxonH
I prefer physical games too but here we are talking about the eShop releases and sales and those are digital downloads. Buying digital on the Wii U is a pain given that:
However, Xenoblade Chronicles X does have an optional 10 GB install to improve loading and textures (only the disc version needs this). That is also the reason for the PS4 having to install. I guess my point is, Wii U isn't immune to installing games either and many people will choose to install a game to improve performance. I did, had to delete Pikmin 3 to make room though. Think about it, it would not be good to have the standard be: Physical is inferior to digital because of access times. This is why we either accept installs or we look at a solid state medium.
Oh and as far as Nintendo going third party, do you think they will just get out of the video game business instead of going third party if their consoles continue to sell poorly?
@Crono1973
No, I don't think they'll just get out of the business. They would definitely go 3rd party before that day ever came (maybe?). But that day is not going to come any time soon.
Nintendo home consoles have sold poorly for 20 years (aside from Wii), and yet they're still here. And it would take more than just home consoles to tank. Everything would have to tank, beyond and hope of profit, for multiple generations.
Which is why I say, come find me when that day actually comes. If I'm still alive.
@Crono1973
Well, I can't predict the future. Nintendo might go third party, though I don't hope so.
And I can see why someone might not like Galaxy as much as I did. I really did obsess about it, and I'm going back to it as often as others say they do with 64.
