The Simpsons has been running long enough that its opening is firmly cemented in pop culture history, but Paul Robertson and Ivan Dixon have decided to delve even deeper into the nostalgia centers of our brains by rendering it in pixel form.
The video calls out a few classic game icons and tropes, certainly, but something about it also seems to tease the mind of Simpsons games past. There's definitely a feel toward the classic Simpsons arcade game, but also notes of Bart vs. The Space Mutants on the NES or Bart's Nightmare on the SNES. The latter might be more apt once you reach the end of the opening.
Also, Homer kind of looks like King Dedede.

It would be nice for Matt Groening to develop an episode using only pixel art, and with this video as introduction.
That was just fantastic.
This made my day. And it's just 2.16 AM here in Italy!
That was awesome.
Excellent ! [/Mr. Burns]
It's been a while since I last heard anything about Paul Robertson. Good to see he's still doing what he does best.
I got a good chuckles from the 'Pixal art is not real art'.
Liked the guy with an oculus on in the band room
Wow, this looks great
Paul Robertson is a baddonkey.
He did all the pixel art for Scott Pilgrim v.s. The World: The Video Game, two Gravity Falls episodes (Fight Fighters & Soos and the Real Girl) and a bunch of other crazy as hell art pieces!
Warning: Google searches will wield VERY NSFW results.
Wow! That was amazing!!! I'm a huge Simpsons fan myself. Pixel art is awesome!
This makes me want a Simpsons Arcade reboot in the same vein as Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World with this exact style. I'd pay double for that!
That last part is exactly what I'd expect from Paul Robertson!
I was def impressed with this.
gotta love the simpsons
Pixel art is not real art!
So charming. I'd watch a whole episode in this style, preferably a Treehouse of Horror one!
@AshFoxX The amount of money I'd throw at that is stupid.
