We recently ran a poll on the site to find out which aspects of the New Nintendo 3DS - such as improved 3D effect, cover plates and better CPU - you were most interested in hearing about.
We're now running a series of videos which look at these very same elements a little more in-depth, and this week it's the impact of the more powerful CPU, the refreshed design and the vastly improved web browser.
Don't forget to check out last week's episode if you missed it, and if you did miss it, make sure you subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube to avoid that unfortunate event in the future.

Video is a bit quiet...
Nice that they improved the browser, but did they improve the method of getting connected to hotspots? I just bought a new router for my house and getting on w/ our 3 tablets and 1 smartphone was a snap but the 2 3DS was a pain, I haven't even connected my wife's 3DS yet.
I don't know what it is but these kinds of videos with you guys talking in front of the camera with in-focus and out-of-focus close-up shots of the N3DS seems kind of awkward. I just left this tab open and went to another tab and started browsing GameFAQs while just listening to you talk.
@rjejr Exactly the same method of connecting the New 3DS to the router as the old 3DS, no change there..
Great video.... You guys remind me a bit of that IT crowd episode.... "BOARD.... GAAAAAMES" 😂😂😂😂😊😉
Do video apps like YouTube and Netflix load faster on the New Nintendo 3DS?
It looks like they're playing Battleship in that picture.
@Lukey64000 Yes!! Haha!
Are there going to be any more parts? I dunno why you guys don't do one long 15-or-so minute video on all of this, instead of these 3 minute parts. This way, it's not enough information to talk about and get me interested, and it's way less convenient.
@Nicolai agreed. You guys should do a weekly half hour video in the office, chatting about news an options etc. And make sure camera is in full focus and speakers are loud and clear
I'd watch a weekly show with you guys for sure!
Oi! Can you enter special characters into password fields with the new browser? I tried logging into my gmail account from the 3DS browser, and it won't let me choose special characters in the password keyboard. Is there a change in the new browser?
Oh yeah...what's the difference in CPU chips? You say: oh, there's a new CPU, it's shiny. Very 'in-depth', yeah? How about taking some models apart and taking pictures of chips, pretty please?
Nintendo DSi browser was quicker than Nintendo 3DS browser, I hope that New 3DS browser is faster than that six years old system.
Are you from London Mon? !
The system is awesome! I have it and I am playing it all the time! Highly recommend!!
I'm planning to save a little money now and then to eventually upgrade to this. All the little improvements plus getting to play Xenoblade for the first time sound great!
I really wish the 13th would hurry up! I already have my games and charger. All i need now is my New 3DS and i will be happy.
@Lukey64000 GAME BOARD. explosions
I should stress it's meant as a term of endearment. 😁😁😁
can the browser support videos now?
@kitsunetails8 Yes.
@rjejr
What's your router I don't have that problem with mine ... But I really don't use my 3ds for browsing and haven't tested online play ... But it's always connected even my wife's dsi is connected ...
@WaveyChristmas if you turn power saver off it becomes brighter than any setting. This is what is probably happening when you plug your 3DS in to charge.
@chiefeagle02 youtube app is the same waste of space as on the original 3DS.
the website works far better, with HQ and 3D support.
another nice thing they skipped:
i just watched this video through the nintendolife website on my n3DS, while i have a game suspended in the background.
yes, you can pause your game and watch a video walkthrough on your n3DS to see how to continue.
@WaveyChristmas it takes less than half a second to restore proper 3D, and only if you tilt your head so far it's impossible for the camera to see both your eyes.
this behaviour is unavoidable with any eye tracking 3D, and is hardly an issue because it takes as long as that to find the sweetspot again with ss3d off.
@ohako I think we're going to have to wait on a dedicated Tech specs site like iFixit or ArsTechnica to see that.
What I'm looking forward to most is finding out how visible the screens are under direct sunlight! The Game Boy Color remains the greatest beneficiary of being used under direct sunlight throughout Nintendo's portable console history. (Well, except for that Boktai title on the Game Boy Advance... Although the original GBA's screen visibility improved under direct sunlight, it was not by as much as the GBC.) Meanwhile, the 3DS family thus far seems to take the hardest hit- I literally cannot see the action on the screens at all with the original 3DS on maximum brightness in broad daylight.
That alone, would be enough to push me over the edge towards getting a New 3DS XL, since I often take the bus and am outside during commuting, since I don't drive a car. After all, what's the use of a portable console if it's barely usable while you're outside in the daytime!?
@ohako The original 3DS systems had a dual-core 250MHz processor. The New 3DS systems has a quad-core 250MHz processor from what I've read around.
@WaveyChristmas there's no 6th brightness setting, but the 5th setting is already very bright.
I currently use setting 2/auto which adjusts good enough for every situation.
@WaveyChristmas I have an old XL and a standard size n3DS.
I don't get the 6th brightness level on my XL either, but the n3DS looks brighter on 5 than the XL.
I tried on/off charger and with or without power saving on both an old XL and a small n3DS, neither showed any brightness changes.
The audio quality in the reviews has been very poor.
LOL a second so called " in-depth" video! You guys really need to understand the meaning of the word in-depth!
Also please learn to speak louder or move the mic closer. Its almost impossible to hear anything you say, specially Tom.
Very disappointed in the recent videos, you can do better!
