Awesome Games Done Quick is a bi-annual week-long event that's rapidly established itself as a highlight within the speedrun community. The most skilful players from around the world gather to tackle records, all while raising impressive amounts of money.
The fundraising target for last week's festivities was $1 million, all going to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. However, at the time of writing that target has been exceeded by over 50%, with some key figures below.
- 29629 donors
- 38,983 donations
- $1,545,916 raised
Those are absolutely fantastic figures, and are an immense credit to the organisers. It'll all happen again in the summer, of course, but below are a couple of our favourite moments; we have someone clearing the first three dungeons in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time while blindfolded, and Nintendo Life's long-term reviewer and retro gaming master Marcel van Duyn showing us all how it's done in Shovel Knight; the latter was completed with the developers present, too.

It was a fantastic event, with some very memorable moments! To add on to the 2 that you mentioned, I would also recommend people to watch the Battleblock Theater run with the developers present(these developers are some of the funniest people in gaming), the Tetris Grandmaster run, Kaizo Mario World, Kingdom Hearts 2, and there is just so much more!
Watched a few of these videos. The thing I was impressed with most (well, after the amazing video games feats) was the lack of profanity (I assume there may be some on some older rated games, I didn't watch any of those).
It meant I was able to watch a few of them with my 8 year old son. Nice work guys, next time the event is on I'll be making a donation.
Watched this for the entire week. It was amazing, as always.
I've watched it in 2013, 2014 and now 2015 not including Summer Games Done Quick. Explain to me what bi-annually means exactly.
Also enjoyed watching this event and appreciated the overall family-friendly presentation as mentioned by @ImDiggerDan
My 8 year old loved it, I think Kaizo Mario World was our favorite but we're going to watch more replays on Youtube. They had a good mix of games and I always enjoy when the commentators do a great job of explaining what we're seeing so we can appreciate some of the tricks.
@Nanamine - Bi-annualy means every it happens twice a year. The article writer was mostly correct, except it's Summer Games Done Quick in the Summer and Awesome Games Done Quick in January. There's 1 of each, though they are basically the same thing. SGDQ raises money for MSF (or Doctor's Without Borders), while AGDQ raises money for PCF (Prevent Cancer Foundation).
That blidfolded Zelda OoT run, even with its (many) screw-ups, was beyond impressive. I swear, someone has to give that guy a prize or something, posthaste!
The blind oot run was great. For those who don't know, the guy who did it (runnerguy2489) is attemping a blindfolded 100% run over a long time, he streams it on Wednesdays and does a review of it on thursdays, definitely worth a watch on twitch.
I also loved TASbot plays pokemon, that was crazy! The whole week of agdq was awesome.
Both were very entertaining. Congrats Marcel for doing that great run and helping others at the same time
AGDQ was fantastic as always. I'm glad this time I was able to contribute a small portion of that amazing donation sum. If I had half the talent those guys have at gaming, I'd love to join them during their marathons sometime.
I just watched the proposal scene. Man, that sure was unbelievably awkward...
