Gamers in Europe, Australia and New Zealand have been champing at the bit to get their grubby mitts on Shovel Knight for some time now. We know Yacht Club Games is doing its best to get the PEGI and OFLC ratings sorted out and we're expecting some good news on that front very soon.
In the meantime as a sweetener to thank the PAL regions for their patience, the Yacht Club gang have announced a cross platform discount for Shovel Knight in European and Australian regions. If you buy the game on either the Wii U or 3DS you'll be treated to 33% off the price of the other version of the game. Why buy both? Well the Wii U version has lovely Miiverse integration and of course the 3DS version makes decent use of 3D effects and offers 'StreetPass Arena' battles. Why wouldn't you want to own both?
Are you planning to buy only one version of Shovel Knight on Nintendo platforms or has this offer tempted you to double dip? Let us know with a comment below.

When? I'll delay my purchase until its 50% off if they release it along or after Smash U. They better release it sooner. The waiting game is not fun anymore.
Is there an official release date for this yet? I know it's 'November 2014', but I am yet to see anything more specific.
But when does the game actually come out?
I would have preferred cross-buy as Squids Odyssey... or at least the possibility to transfer or sincronize the progress between 3DS and Wii U
It's not CROSS-BUY. Cross-Buy is when you pay one amount for a game that you'll get on multiple platforms. As far as I can see, you have to pay both for the Wii U and the 3DS version, therefore it is not Cross-Buy. Really hate it when companies or news sites uses the term like that.
33 percent cross buy deal is not a good enough incentive for me. What they should do is sell it at a discount regardless if you own two versions! If it was "buy 1-get 1 free" that would be nice for people who own both consoles, but I only own a Wii U at the moment so it doesn't apply to me.
@BensonUii I agree!
@Pahvi It's 15 euro on both systems
Meh, that discount isn't really interesting.
I'll have to think about getting it for 15€, anyway...
Yeah, don't discount the game or even put it on a week one sale or anything. 33% the second time you buy the game doesn't make up for the half a year delay.
Not enough of a discount to double dip, even at 50% I dont think i would
I don't know why a company would expect you to pay 2/3 the price for a game you already own. The second copy should be a free bonus or be like 90% off, since it's not like you're getting much of anything extra.
You lost me at "discount". On Sony platforms this would be free.
I won't pay almost twice for the same game, sorry.
Hm no. This should be free instead.
@Sadodi that might be why it says cross buy discount and not outright cross buy.
Either way 33% is not enough.
That's true in today's market but in my day, you wanted it twice? You bought it twice they've had the development cost to incur for two platforms, why shouldn't they charge twice.
You're a decorator, a customer wants their front room wallpapering, customer 2 wants their dining room wallpapering with the same paper.
Customer 1 and 2 both live in the same house. Would you only charge for wallpapering 1 room?
Anyone is an idiot to expect something for free. Sony do this at a loss as they can afford to due to their userbase. You start demanding this of an indie developer? You're killing them off before they have a chance and negating the entire point of independent development.
Nobody needs take offence at the use of the word idiot as it is a general comment and fact directed at nobody in particular. We have all come to expect this, but it is wrong.
stoked, will buy both if i enjoy the wii u version as much as i expect
@alloftheabove
yeah should be free because you're worth it!
@DESS-M-8 You just don't get it. The Cross-Buy term alone means "pay once get multiple versions of the game". Because of that, there is no such thing as "Cross-Buy Discount". You can't just slap two words together that don't make any sense. Do you even English bro? Lol
And also, lots of indie developers have Cross-Buy on their games on the Playstation consoles and it works wonderfully. You're just a person who hasn't experienced it and just runs off a theory of how it can't work.
@Sadodi Just because you use the Sony definition for a word, doesn't mean that's necessarily the actual definition of the term. What term would you use for the type of discount mentioned in the article?
@jariw
Multiplatform discount maybe? (I don't really care as I'm only buying it on the Wii U and not taking any sides on the debate.)
That discount wouldn't be enough for me to double dip. Half off or nothing. 30$ for essentially the same game was too much for me at launch. If the U version ever goes on sale for half off then I will consider it.
Nah I'll just get the Wii U version most likely on sale it it is more than £13.
@Sadodi Rising Indie Developers need as much money for their product as possible. Which is why I believe there shouldn't be 'cross buy' on Nintendo platforms now because many Indie Developers are starting out such as this one.
@Sadodi "do you even English Bro?"
Wow, just wow. Words cannot answer such use of English.
I think you need to develop your grasp of English before attacking anyone.
"cross" link between, traverse something.
"buy" purchase to gain ownership.
"discount" purchase at a reduced rate.
Singularly these words bear a meaning, construct something mystical known as a sentence you then can use words for all sorts of things. Just cause you've taken how two words have been used on a Sony system and then rationalised that this should apply to global commerce seems quite an unrealistic leap logically, especially when basic writing skills escape you.
If you seriously cannot read my previous message and see logic over blind demand for free games then nevermind and leave it at that.
Thank you for your time and mild entertainment from reading your posts.
Genuinely.
Ok cross-buy stuff ? So what about a discount for us who bought the Steam version in waiting for the PAL 3DS or WiiU release ?
I would rather prefer a discounted download code to thanks me waiting for the PAL release and buying both the Steam version and the 3DS one !!!
@DESS-M-8 Haha, you obviously don't understand sarcasm nor have been keeping up with Internet memes if you actually think that's how I talk. LOL You're so cute, love ya <3
Alot of people are forgetting the people who kickstarted the game.
This would just be a slap in the face to people who back the game to get both versions where they had to pay $30. While this discount is nearly the same but I agree with them not doing a buy one get the other free.
I wonder if this discount will apply to people who backed the game. I might get the Wii U version for €10 if this discount apply to backers.
EDIT: Yacht responded to my tweet about this question and they said that it will work. I am now interested in getting the Wii U version aswell.
@Sadodi Internet memes is not something to keep up with. They are another sad diversion created for people who are unbelievably dependent on the Internet.
If I were to shake hands with the Yacht Club gang I would count my fingers afterwards.
Buy both versions and save 33% or 'is it' buy both versions and give the Yacht Club gang an extra 66% for keeping us waiting?
@Pahvi I would get the WiiU version first if you have the deluxe system. That way you'll have more points added to your deluxe promotion.
On anything out there i dont consider 'buy one get one 33% cheaper' a discount 'buy one get one free' 'buy one get one half price' i do.
I live in europe and bought this game many months a go from GoG so not going to buy it at least now, maybe when it goes like 50% discount or so.
I have bought it on Steam and I am not interested in playing it again until the extra content is added. (I might get it on the Wii U at that point but not if they mess around like this).
Gone off this for months now. Which I'm sure they have lost lots of sales in Europe with this massive delay re ratings. If I do buy it it will be on the 3ds for the 3d but it will be in a sale
And this is not cross buy, this is called a discount.
I really have to stop reading the comments of users.
There's really no pleasing anyone anymore.
Well, at least it's better than the 0% discount we got in NA!
Cross-buy? No, it's a reduced price and limited offer, not cross-buy.
@Webby-sama
Says someone who has been able to play this game for nearly four and a half months now.... The European gamers are just tired of waiting, that's all.
Did you cry?
@DESS-M-8 nice! Thank you for clearly stating what needed to be said... Tired of the moaners and groaners talking about "all Sony and Microsoft games are free, so should Nintendo's!" I bet if their parents worked for these companies, they would be less inclined to whine and moan about how expensive games are.
@Webby-sama I have to take a break from the whiners every few weeks..l I feel you bro.what is really strange is that people complain about something as if it had been taken away from them... Before the Internet and oversaturation via social networking, people tended to be much much more patient about game releases. In fact, most gamers waited for Christmas (or birthday)...
@DESS-M-8 right on brother! well said. Notice that the response is a long time coming now...? Perhaps he's headed over to a meme site to find something relevant? Sarcasm doesn't really work in text (without the word "sarcastically" added to the end).
I dont own a 3DS so i dont care just give me the fricking game already
Just Wii U for me really looking forward to it but not going to pay twice for something, I think all platform owners should have it that if it's on two of your systems and has not been radically changed or improved then you shouldn't really pay twice, I mean people would flip if you had to pay for apps on your phone again if you went from a galaxy s4 to an s5
Are the games exactly the same or are there different features in each? If they different then I think a discount is fine, but if they're exactly the same then I think it's a pitiful amount of discount. Should be 50% minimum.
I'm particularly looking at Nintendo on this one too with their stupid VC titles on 3DS and Wii U and having to pay twice for the same game.
