Dynasty Warriors VS won't leave Japan.
Tecmo Koei community manager Chin Soon Sun made the pronouncement on Twitter:
Dynasty Warriors VS (for the Nintendo 3DS) - This title is for Japan only & will not be localized and released for / in overseas.
Shame — we wanted to enjoy some feudal fighting dressed as Link and Samus.

Uh oh, this is not good.
Really don't care about it, DW died after 4.
Thats a real shame because Samurai Warriors on the 3DS is one of my favourite 3DS titles.
Not that I care about the game in question or anything, but the region locks seriously need to burn in hell.
You'd think the inclusion of Samus and Link costumes would make it more marketable to the West.
Why are they doing this? The series HAS A MARKET, Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3DS sold it's entire European shipment, it was in demand to the point of going for double the standard retail price on eBay. I know this because it took me forever to track down a copy (but so worth it, the game is very good). They've been sabotaging their own franchise from the start.
The SAME BLOKE in this story, Chin Soon Sung said they "underestimated" the demand for Samurai Warriors on 3DS - http://pietriots.com/2011/06/05/publishers-underestimated-huge-3ds-demand/
So their solution is... to stop selling it entirely? Yeah sure, great way to avoid shortages. I was going to buy this.
Damn, this was one of my most anticipated 3DS games, so I'm very disappointed to hear this. But after seeing how abysmal the game's sales were in Japan, I figured there wouldn't be much of a chance of it coming out over here.
And yeah, that sucks about the 3DS region locks, since I probably would have imported it if my 3DS had the ability to play it.
Shouldn't that be the whole reason they DO bring it here? They've already made the game, may as well give another audience a chance. MY MONEY IS READY!
Grubdog, if a Dynasty Warriors game sells poorly in Japan, it is going to sell really poorly out west. Ever consider that while you might buy the game, they do need to sell more than a few hundred copies to be worth their while?
I'm actually not so disappointed about this. I could import it from Japan, because I have a Japanese 3DS, but... well, this is the lowest rated DW game for a while in Famitsu, so I suspect this is one of the weaker entries in the series.
Yeah, they would be spending even more money on the game with no guarantee that it will do any better overseas than it did in Japan (which is typically the stronger market for these games anyway).. If it was another company then they might be willing to take the gamble, but Tecmo Koei generally tends to be more cautious when it comes to these things, especially when it involves the Warriors franchise.
Also worth noting that Tecmo Koei saw a profit increase of 60-something per cent last year.
So I trust they know whether it's more profitable to bring a game over to the west or not than any of us.
I feel bad now. I've had the demo in my 3DS for weeks and have never played it. Its marketed somewhat decently here, I see commercials sometimes, not nearly as much as Kid Icarus though.
No!
Dam I really wanted it,mainly just to play a Samus.
My point remains that they haven't given the European / US audience a chance. The Link / Samus gimmick is also much stronger in the west, Zelda and Metroid are basically dead in Japan. Tecmo of all companies should know that. (LOL Other M)
Grubdog. I can guarantee you that a warriors game will never sell better in the west than in Japan. Fan service costume or otherwise. And if TK didn't hit sales expectations in Japan its not going to risk real money to localise it for a western audience.
Won't be the first really great Japanese 3DS game you'll miss out on, and it won't be the last. I would settle in for some frustration if I were you, now is not a good time for Japanese developers and publishers and they are going to be very risk adverse for the next few years.
Nintendo, why do you keep making these mistakes? Do you know how hard it is getting to ignore these so you stay the perfect console in my mind?
Don't know if i can swear here so i'll just censor it.
FU!#$@%^&%^#$@*
That's too bad, but I wouldn't have gotten it anyways. I still have Samurai Warriors Chronicles to finish, after all.
i dont really care about this franchise so theres no reason to be mad
Link and Samus look like a fan made mod
very stupid move and decision on Tecmo Koei part. I would have definitely bought this game.
Too bad. This seemed like a good idea and the costumes were a nice gimmick too.
@grimbldoo Nintendo had nothing to do with this game.
@Mercury9 They're costumes, not the actual characters.
(imagining)now for america to make a epic game and* only* share it to europe or europe to make one and share it to america, hopefully japan gets the wants but too bad cause they wouldnt get
Good, the series is way too repetitive.
I...WAS WAITING FOR THIS GAME. Things like this make Nintendo look even stupider than ever for adding a region to their handheld. No matter what Nintendo says to justify it, and no matter how much Nintendo fans would try defending Nintendo on the matter (there actually are some), NOTHING stops it from being an absolutely stupid decision.
@Grubdog I'm sorry, but Zelda is dead in Japan? What are you basing that statement on? I know you're sore about not getting this DW game in the west, but I'm sorry, that's just not true. Have you seen Ocarina 3D sales here? And there are so many Zelda fans in Japan, me being one of them.
And yes, the Samus and Link additions were just costumes, not characters. From what I've seen, you're not missing out on anything.
@dark-insanity You know Japan doesn't get a lot of western-made games? Not that most of them care. "western games suck" after all.
@Mickeymac 'tis true. And thank you for being someone on this site that actually seems to either do research, or just think about region situations for more than 5 seconds before posting a comment. For example; that game Shantae that so many people on here are in love with? Western exclusive. I can name many more games that never come to Japan, but yeah, just saying, sometimes NA or EU games don't come here. I still think the Japanese exclusive games are better, but every once in a while, a Western game comes out that I think should come out here and doesn't.
Bit Trip Saga, Cave Story 3D (I know, weird eh?), the Rayman games, and quite a few others. It works both ways guys.
Frak!
I want to have my 3ds play Japanese EShop games and Japanese cards japan gets all the good games we just get COD+ mode
Well that is certainly a disappointment.
@Tsuchinoko now arent we all a genius, you dont need to do research, theres many games made by americans that are good, mainly on other systems then nintendo
@Dark-insanity Umm, did you read my post? I was talking about good American/European games that are EXCLUSIVE to the western market, meaning ones that don't come out in Japan. Please don't be rude when all I'm doing is trying to have a conversation.
@Tsuchinoko this is what happens when you dont read comments......
I am disappoint.
@Tsuchinoko T3T You guys have Ni no Kuni: Shikkoku no Madōshi, the only game I care about being localized but with the tome included; they deem it too difficult to translate into other languages.
@FonistofCruxis
I know but they still look like a mod.
@Sakura I know, I feel bad about that. I've been wanting to get that one ever since it came out. My 3DS is in the shop. Hopefully I'll give it to myself as a birthday present in a few weeks along with the 3DS Layton. I know the PS3 one is leaving Japan, but from friends I know that have played that one, they all say the 3DS one is better...
One of my biggest things has been the fact that Cave Story seems to now be a Western thing, with most recent versions not making it to Japan. Oh well, I guess that's how it goes.
The grass is always greener, type of thing. Nintendo's own greed, to control the prices, & demands of games in different regions,... their greed,... it's just destroying them. I know Nintendo has nothing to do w/ this game, in particular, but they do w/ region locking. I wonder how long it will be, before someone, or some co. come out w/ a region unblocker, similar to the GCN Freeloader? This brings up another thought in my mind, that the (3DS) region blocking is probably software, or even firmware, not purely hardware.
@Capt_N: Yes, because Nintendo is being greedy by region-locking! You caught them red-handed.
@Tsuchinoko: Believe me, some users here will try to spark an argument without reading posts entirely first. Oh, and tell Japan to send some of those Zelda goodies over here too
this is a shame. i had a high amount of potential for this game. dissapointed
