It's a pretty one-sided fight, but even so Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is by far the Wii's greatest fighting game. The main hope for competition came from Capcom's upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which regrettably is not heading to Wii. Why? Let Capcom's Christian Svensson explain all.
Why isn't MvC3 coming to the Wii?
Svensson: The Wii received Tatsunoko vs. Capcom as its Versus offering. We wanted development and business focus on X360/PS3 for MvC3.
Short but bittersweet. The real question is, though, would you rather have Tatsunoko vs. Capcom or Marvel vs. Capcom 3?

Answer: sadly, Id rather MvC.
Id rather a wii exclusive that in years to come will have its value rise. TVSC
Being a multiplatform owner allows me to have my cake and eat it, too.
they just sound lazy right there , we wanted to focus on hd gaming (then just say so) not having to worry about making adjustments for the wii. tvs was awesome so no complaining there. but being drawn in since the other crossover games with the hyper combos and finishes id have to go with MvC aka MVP of that game genre if i may.
I think it's fair to say that whilst we're all grateful to Capcom for showing a bit of Wii love in the form of Tatsunoko, it's fair to say that Marvel would probably have been a bigger seller in the West.
Yeah - as great as the game is, I've never heard of Tatsunoko. It may as well have not been a VS game since these characters could have been created by Capcom for all I knew.
Anyway it's a poor excuse. The 360 and PS3 also have two versions of Street Fighter 4 on top of Marvel Vs Capcom 3. If we're only to get one VS game then at least give us Street Fighter 4!
Shonen Jump VS. Capcom (if possible) would be awesome, and vey popular too.
Just imagine all the pre-orders they'd get after the first trailer of Ryu pitting his hadouken against Son Goku's kamehameha.
Ker-ching!
Oh, and perhaps MvC3 will come to the 3DS instead, like maybe a year after it gets SSFIV.
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is pretty good, but the downside of that is that most players don't know the Tatsunoko characters, but they know Spider-Man, The X-Men, Daredevil, The Hulk, Iron Man etc. So I'd have to say Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
Ah well, I guess I'll just get it for Xbox 360.
That's just a really bad excuse...
I'd rather have this. I don't even know who Tatsunoko is
I'd easily prefer Marvel... I have no interest in tatsunoko and its characters
Tatsunoko hands down, though I don't see why there has to be a choice. Now if they give us a TvsC sequel with even more characters then I'll be well pleased, but why can't they do MvC3 now? They were impressed with the sales were they not?
If it was a choice between TvC vs MvC3, I would choose TvC. The reason? We would likely not have seen TvC released in the West at all otherwise and chances are most people have a PS3 and/or a 360 in addition to a Wii.
What would've been the result of MvC3 on the Wii anyways? Everyone would be complaining it looked like crap instead.
Thank you Capcom for taking a risk and releasing what would've been a Japan only title here.
I'm with @sykotek here - I'd rather have Tatsunoko vs. Capcom on Wii than neither title, which could easily have happened. SFIV on Wii I can do without (I have the excellent Super Street Fighter IV on 360) and I can't say I'm that interested in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as I find the art style a bit dark compared to previous versions. That and I didn't really like MvC 2!
TvC for me. I'm actually pretty well versed in most tatsunoko history and animes snd don't really know any Marvel characters well.
TvC for me, but I want both. They're really just being lazy, though. If you're not gonna give us MvC3, then give us the second one.
Sounds like a fair deal here to me.
What will he say when the port over TvC comes to PS3 and Xbox? the Wii seems to never hold on to its exclusives.
It's alright with me. I got TvC on Wii, and I was gonna get MvC3 on Xbox anyways.
I can't say what I'd rather have considering I've not played TvC. I like sykotek's explanation in favor of their decision, but it couldn't hurt to have both games, could it?
I don't see why we can't have both instead of having one over the other depending on what console you have. Besides, not only are we missing out on Marvel Vs Capcom 3 but also Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter so where is the logic behind that? We've had our VS game yet the other consoles get three plus Street Fighter 4?
I could tell you that MvsC probably would have sold a LOT more on Wii than TvsC
I'll take Tatsunoko characters over Marvel characters ANY day, so for me, there's no real harm done.
Choice was probably dictated by sales, if tatsu had been a sales monster, mvc 3 would have made it over
I think it's diminishing returns to put it on the Wii with the other platforms...though...it was unfair to use TvsC as a barometer of the Wii fighting market.
At the same time I pre-ordered TvsC and haven't regretted holding onto the game. It's a lot of fun, and the WiiRemote mode makes it easy for my kids to play with me...and provides a lot of challenge when using an arcade stick. The game is down to $25 now, and I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone who likes fighting games. TvsC and NBA Jam were two great 3rd party arcade games this year for Wii !
So basically what I heard was,
"That would be too much work. We're lazy."
I´m a big Marvel fan. I've played every game since X-Men CoA. I like Tarsunoko vs Capcom, but Marvel is much better known in America.
In addition, Capcom did not even make a good conversion for america in Tatsunoko vs Capcom (voices, minigames or music).
Do not want to bring Marvel vs Capcom 3 to wii?? FINE!!!.. I want DLC for Tatsunoko vs Capcom!!!!!!!!!!! I want to play with Felicia and John Talbain! (and Wolverine if it´s possible)
I'd rather have TvC. MvC 3 has no baroque, megacrash, or universal air dash. Lame.
Hmm, i guess if i had to chose, I'd go with MVC3,
but TVC is a great game and i got both a Wii and Ps3, soooo....)
Either way, I would mostly play as capcom characters because I had never heard of tatsunoko before TvsC and there are hardly any marvel characters that I like (only x-men).
Does it matter if you never heard of Tatsunoko? Its still a good game with good Tatsunoko characters even if they were completely new to you. I'm getting MvC3 on XBOX 360.
I was wanting MvC3 to show up on the Wii as that is my only console for this generation. and would have purchased it.
Oh, well Capcom's loss as I will not buy another console just for the game.
Too bad they neutered Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for release outside of Japan. It's been a while since I played it but I found the improvements in the US version were overshadowed by the stuff removed from the Japanese one.
I don´t mind. TvsC is very cool, and I´m so happy it was released in europe.
Yeah don't put yourself out Capcom. TWO FIGHTING GAMES? Oh that would be far too much effort
I actually prefer it this way. If MvC3 was on the Wii, people would just hold off and pick up the "superior" version on either the 360 or PS3. With TvC being Wii exclusive and an entirely separate game, there's incentive to own both.
I'm not interested in either game,(not a fan of the vs. series) but I'd gladly choose TvsC anyday, because for some reason MvsC3 looks like garbage to me. The style just doesn't seem to work the way it did for SFIV. TvsC looks gorgeous.
Svensson's comment suggests one Vs title per console, but then X360/PS3 are getting Street Fighter Vs Tekken the year after, so it doesn't seem like a particularly honest answer.
I still think tatsunoko vs campcom is great, even if I didn't know half of the characters.
I'll Happly stick to My Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
Since MvC dosen't anyone I like it in.
I'm happy with TvC but it's going to see little to no playtime after MvC3 hits. I loves me some Marvel and didn't have a clue who any of those anime characters were.
Am I the only one who at least looked the characters up in TvC? Oh well, even if I don't know anyone, all that mattered was that they were fun to play as, simple as that. I don't know the vast majority of Marvel Characters, but that didn't stop me from enjoying MvC2.
Well, when Tatsunoko VS. Capcom came out. I was anticipating that it would be one of the best Tournament fighting games for the Wii, then it turned out to be a humongous pancake (flop) of 2010 (alongside Super Mario Galaxy). This is probably because of limited roster of familiar characters. Well, the Roster for Marvel VS. Capcom 3 doesn't look very promising either. Of course, it will have characters such as,
Marvel side: Spider-Man, Wolverine, The Hulk, Cyclops, Iron-Man and War Machine
Capcom Side: Ryu, Chun-Li, Zangief, Morrigan, Megaman, Strider Hiryu and Jin
But, both sides have new characters as well, which I ersonally never heard of. So, this might be worth to rent on Gamefly, but I don't think I should consider buying this game.
I'll take Tatsunoku vs. Capcom. With SSF4 3DS-bound, maybe MvC3 will do the same. One platform, not one company, right?
Sorry for re-treading but:
1. Capcom have produced about 3 (or more?) fighters for the PS360 crowds..
2. They're just being very lazy.
3. Marvel is a big franchise thus it'd likely sell better than Tats vs Caps
4. At least Super SF 4 is coming to the 3DS.
5. I respect Capcom's work, but I don't respect this
6. Tats vs Caps to be fair is superior to the Street Fighters on the PS360s
7. I prefer Marvel to Tatsunuko, but Tats is still awesome! I'm a casual Marvel fan dang you Capcom
It is always good to own multiple systems, that way no complaining comes. And I cannot complain. I have TVC and love it. And next year I am going to get MVC3 and love it.
I'm a family and social gamer moreso than a isolationalist gamer. Hence I concentrate my finances on the Wii and DS - which for me are MULTI-PURPOSE consoles. I couldn't financially socially justify other consoles besides the ds and wii anyway
PS - MARVEL VS CAPCOM 3 FOR THE 3DS THEN. Make it so Capcom, dang you.
What Kid_A said...
By Svensson's reasoning, the Wii should be getting 'Street Fighter X Tekken' as an exclusive... but it's not. Also, by extrapolation, shouldn't the Wii be getting 'Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition' as an exclusive to make up for not having a Street Fighter game on the console?
That said, it's nice to see the Wii get some love in the form of a decent, well-made exclusive, regardless of specific content. I'm more of a Marvel fan than Tatsunok-who?, but the gameplay of TvC is great and more than makes up for lack of immediately recognizable characters.
Uh-huh. In B4 surprise announcement of Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Special Edition for PS3/360...
Well, if Capcom doesn't want more of my money (though I did buy those two Japanese VCA titles from them today), then I can just spend it on Tatsunoko anime. Who's with me?
@Sean Aaron: Only if I can find a complete sub of both Yatterman series that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. The Movie won't be necessary since i've already seen it. :3
Makes sense I guess, though I would have liked MvC 3 on Wii, oh well that's why I got a PS3.
TvC is a great game but I've always prefered the full 6 button control of Capcom fighters rather than the simplified control of TvC. Marvel Vs Capcom would have been an instant win but I read that it too would be having a similar scheme to TvC so I don't think I'll be missing too much.
Either way it seems to be a trend by rights Street Fighter 4 should be on the Wii but it isn't so MVC 3 not on Wii is no surprise.
In all honesty I was going to say I'd rather have Marvel Vs Capcom 3 but I played MVC 2 the other day and I just didn't like it anymore.
TvC seemed was much better in comparison.
But If I had a choice I'd choose Street Fighter 4 over both TvC and MvC =p
Actually, Tatsunuko anime - that'd be interesting.
I'd rather see Capcom Vs SNK.
@mariofan1985 How can someone calling SMG2 a flop, give themself the username, mariofan1985?!? That game is the GOTY!
Simple. Capcom loves us one year, then hates us the next.
Uhhh, Brawl is the best Wii fighting game. Kthxbai. :3
Capcom didnt say NO about MvC on 3DS, heres hoping, ie 3 in MvC3, they are milking the 3 a lot for the 3DS being the platform for the 3rd game in a series. Mega Man Legends 3 and MGS 3.
MvC3 looks amazing. I'm so glad I have a PS3
I think everyone has taken advantage of the fact that TvC has been out on the Wii forever now. It makes answering with MvC3 almost a default answer for anyone who doesn't put any thought into their answers.
A fair question would be, if you could choose only 1 to be released on the Wii outside of Japan, what would it be, Wii-exclusive TvC2 or graphics/gameplay inferior multiplatform MvC3? As a multiplatform owner, I find variety to be the most satisfying. As a company, you wouldn't release both titles on the same platform in the same year due to one possibly cannibalizing the potential profits of the other.
So, if you could only have one, Wii-only Tatsunoko vs Capcom 2 or an inferior version of Marvel vs Capcom 3, which would it be? ...before you nonsensically interject, lets not kid ourselves, yes, it would be inferior unless they were programming with the lowest common denominator in mind, but then nobody would be happy with the results.
As a true fighting game enthusiast, it makes me sick to think of TvC not being released in place of a half-@$$ed version of MvC3 that most of you wouldn't buy anyways because it'd suck in comparison to the big console releases and you know what, you'd be complaining about Capcom then too.
How many of you bought Transformers: Cybertronian Adventures vs Transformers: War for Cybertron that had the choice? /rant
Thats a terrible excuse. If thats the case, why does the other systems get Street Fighter 4, Super Street Fighter 4, and Street Fighter X Tekken/Tekken X Street Fighter?
I need a PS3....
Here is the West, we know who the Marvel characters are, but we have no idea who most of these Tatsunoko characters are. I'd prefer MvC3.
Ok, is he ? Why deny the most sold console for this generation? If they want to make a great profit then port MvC3 to the Wii...
Nice to hear that Capcom broke up with us.........
THE CAKE IS A LIE!
mvc wins. sorry tatsunoko...just too simplistic.
"but even so Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is by far the Wii's greatest fighting game"
???
Tatsunoko vs Capcom is great... but Wii's greatest fighting game is by far Brawl. By far !
1 i would have marvel vs capcom because they have resident evil characters
2 tatsunoko vs capcom is not the best fighter for the wii it's 2 to super smash bros.
MvC3DS
That there could be a reason- secretly. Then again, didn't the producer said that "Not releasing another VS. title to those who invested in the Fightstick for TvC would be a disservice"?
Plus, earlier this year, he mentioned the possibility of bringing MvC3 to the Wii- but they "wanted to focus on the 360 and PS3 [versions]".
Svensson probably doesn't know what the hell he is talking about for all we know. Then again... w/e. I might get a 360 for christmas and MvC3 will definitely be in my collection
And I thoroughly enjoyed TvC. I just don't enjoy them fights with people who use the Ryu/Zero combo in the most uncreative and predictable ways.
(Oh, and for like, a minute or two, I thought that snapshot of Ryu and Chun-Li was from MvC3- heck, I thought Chun-Li was Wolverine after a quick look. Tells you something, I suppose....)
This decision doesn't bother me one bit as I enjoyed playing Tatsunoko vs. Capcom on my Wii and I will be enjoying Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on my PS3. I really would love to see a sequel for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom one day. I actually enjoyed playing as the Tatsunoko characters more than the Capcom ones.
I remember when developers like Capcom were fine with multiplatform releases and there wasn't all this drama over who would get one game this time and another next time.
And down/up converting something to and from HD to SD is not that hard! I think its the general consensus here that Capcom is being lazy.
When Marvel vs Capcom 3 was announced, I though that will happen.
I really like both games, I vote for multi-platform game of both.
I have a PS3 and a Wii and I'm getting MvC3- I've been playing fighters for a very long time.
However, TvC is the one I'm glad the Wii got. Its the much better game and the best fighter this gen.
Instead of whining about MvC3 go get TvC- its absolutely fantastic in its own right and you'll learn alot about anime : )
And thats coming from a guy who has been playing MvC2 since its release and has been waiting for 3 for ten years.
@swerd_mud
TvC actually has more complex gameplay systems than MvC3.
MvC3 not only features simplified controls (even moreso than TvC), it features rock, paper, scissors comands to get out of air combos.
Do some research before you make judgements like that. ; )
please, no direct insults -- TBD
I don't find TvC too simple but maybe that just because I've got Super Smash Bros. to compare it to.
Want's both period!
We'll get back to this after the 3DS is released. If they're gonna port Street Fighter for it, I'd bet they might put this one too.
I'm from Italy and there Tatsunoko characters are well known. So I love them more than Marvel ones!
Considering PS3 and XBox 360 got Marvel vs CAPCOM 2 as well, this argument doesn't hold water. If you don't want to make fighting games for the Wii, you should just say so rather than making half-assed excuses.
TvC has the better roster, anyway. MvC3 keeps removing old favorites for boring characters.
I wouldn't trade my TvC for anything, especially not for marvel. I hate it!
Personally, I want Shonen Jump vs Capcom.
Goku & Kakashi vs Ken & Batsu woud be epic for me!!
I'd rather have Tatsunoko, cause for now it's a little exclusive gem. By the way the Capcom guy is a moron. The Wii clearly needs more fighting games and Capcom's contribution has been minimal so far (considering that each system gets within the years approximately 10 Capcom fighting games). That's disrespectful towards Wii users and I think we should boycott Capcom products sooner or later.
Although I love Tatsunoko vs Capcom, I'd rather play Marvel vs Capcom 3. I will say if they have another TvC game, I'd like to see more characters from both sides.
If Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is the reason why there's no Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for Wii, then what's the reason to why there's no Street Fighter IV or even Super Street Fighter IV for the Wii? Puny iPhone/iPod had a version and the upcoming 3DS is gonna get one, so what particular game prevents the Wii and PSP for not getting one too?
It's the hardware. Let's not sugarcoat this. The Xbox 360 and the PS3 are almost identical, and are much more powerful than the Wii in terms of the hardware. Of course, you could argue about the Call of Duty games that were successfully ported to the Wii, so I guess the question is, what features would you compromise to make MvC 3 for the Wii?
