Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove

One week ago today we were looking at the calendar and commenting on how things seemed pretty quiet for Nintendo to round out March and then out of nowhere — boom! — we're hit with our first proper look at The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and everything changed.

Yes, this was the week that we fell thoroughly back into the Zelda spirit (as if we ever left) as we broke down every new detail in the latest trailer, had a close look at that special edition OLED and discussed Nintendo's previous successes with the 'more of the same' format.

Elsewhere, we saw the official cancellation of E3, felt sentimental looking at eShop fan art (yes, it's a real thing) following its 3DS and Wii U closure, dove head first into even more Mario movie casting rumours and saw Poochy drift onto the scene in Mario Kart Tour.

This isn't to mention the world of reviews. This week, we got to grips with some slick biking action in Gripper, entered a world of well-packaged satire with The Last Worker, and hunted demons in the beautiful but lacking Saga of Sins.

Now, we are ready for a spot of the ol' gaming. A handful of our writers have shared their weekend plans below and we'd love for you to do the same! Have a gander at what we're up to and then fill out the poll or take to the comments to let us know what games you're playing.

This week has seen my New 2DS XL in strong rotation after downloading a boatload of titles last weekend (rip orange eShop bag, we miss you). If I manage to put down Pocket Card Jockey for more than 10 minutes then I will probably be carrying on through Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and reliving my dream of being able to create gorgeous pixel art despite my lack of experience, equipment and skill...

I have also been playing through a little game called The Last of Us on my PS4 recently after that overlooked indie TV show released on HBO (you probably haven't heard of it). It would be great to get a little bit more of that ticked off the list as long as I can withstand the emotional damage.

Nothing physical this week but the eShop more than made up for it. Low polygon racing thrills with Formula Retro Racing: World Tour, Papertris is a wonderful companion to go with the Tetris movie, FUR Squadron is the Star Fox meets TRON you never knew you needed, Flashout 3 just about manages to scratch that AG racing itch and having the definitive version of Assault Suits Valken is no small treat.

Game of the Week is Lunark. I have been keeping up with the development of this gem for the past several years and despite having pre-purchased a physical copy I could not wait any longer. So for this weekend, digital it is!

It turns out that restarting your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island is a really bad idea because you just lose your entire life all over again. I'd been feeling a bit down on ACNH and never got back into it after the big 2021 update, but now I have so much new stuff to uncover, it feels like a whole new game. I'm sorry I doubted you, Animal Crossing. I love you.

The first NieR DLC is live in Theatrhythm Final Bar Line so it's back to the theatre I go — let's see if I can get through Weight of the World without bursting into a fit of sobs. And I'll be dipping back into Citizen Sleeper to check out all three free DLC episodes. Have a lovely weekend, folks, and stay alert on this April Fools' Day.

This weekend I’ll be saying hello to Jason Isaacs when I dive into The Last Worker. This one has intrigued me for a long time now and I managed to snag it on Thursday night with a 20% launch discount. In our review, Roland found it to be lacking in certain respects, but I’m eager to unpack it myself.

Elsewhere, there’s a sizeable pile of eShop games I grabbed before the stores closed on 3DS and Wii U. I’ve been enjoying burning through NES Remix, and there are several things on 3DS (Nintendo Pocket Football Club, SteamWorld: Tower Defence, Aero Porter) that I haven’t even opened yet. I keep getting distracted by Pocket Card Jockey.

We hope you enjoyed reading! Add the game that you'll be maining in the poll below and leave a comment with your gaming plans for the weekend ahead!

What are you playing this weekend (1st/2nd Apr)?
